Want to see the “Dolls and the Rainy Days” contest entries?

DON’T FORGET: Samantha’s lavender set, “Buttons and Bows,” ends this evening on Ebay… you can see it by clicking on the picture at the right side bar or your can see it HERE.

First of all, thank you for the kind compliments on the girls I showed in their “supposedly” cool weather dresses in this half of the line up! It was hard to pick dresses for some of them, as I was looking for cool looking fabric, but then I realized they had pantalettes underneath, and realized too late, that would be HOT! So I might have to think a little better for the next set of COOL dresses to wear when it’s hot… and only pick ones that “actually” did look cool!
It has been very hot again here… I mean miserably hot and sticky with the humidity! Monday and Tuesday are supposed to be in the 90’s… but I’m not going to complain because I know the ladies in the west are suffering more than I am… We have air conditioning! Thank you Lord!

Good news! I think all my obligations and “busyness” are over… I am still busy but not so hurried as last week… I need to get those pictures taken of our house and a review written for the company like I said I would, but we still have some things we wanted to get done before I took those pictures… and there are several little areas we wanted to finish…that window in the eave, gutters in the front, nails pulled out in a few areas… etc… but the good news is…

I’M READY TO SEW AGAIN! Can you believe it? I almost can’t either! I have the doll picked out, (sorry, she’s not one of the 6 American Girl Anniversary dolls) but haven’t figured out what I want to make her…

I did get a few things listed on Ebay tonight… they were outfits my Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls had come in… I had Rozen’s aqua ruffled dress, Sara’s jeans and jacket set, and Stella’s jeans and sweater set… Well, just a short bit after I listed Rozen’s set, it sold for the Buy It Now price… YAY! I still have the other 2 on Ebay… you can see them HERE and HERE.

I thought you might like to see the entries from My Meadow and the “water” contest… Miroslava actually called it “Dolls and the Rainy Days!” I’m not sure if everyone can see if or if you have to belong to the My Meadows Fan Club on Facebook. I think you’ll be able to see it from the link below.. I can’t really test it out because I “AM” a member so it works for me… but I hope you can see the entries…

Miroslava picked her 3 favorites and 3 more for a lottery drawing (I think) First click on the end of her writing where it says see more and that will fill you in on what the contest was all about… then in the middle of all those words, you’ll see in bold lettering again, the facebook link where you can see the “public choice album” pictures that everyone has a chance to “like” (vote)… If you click on that link, all the pictures will come up… and if you click on each picture, you can see the number of “likes” each picture has gotten so far over on the right side. Miroslava is leaving the voting open until Friday I think… There are some wonderful pictures of dolls and water! I only know of mine and Joy. You’ll see mine, but Joy did one of a doll (Ardyn) looking up with her hands raised, waiting and hoping for rain… I hope they get it soon! :o)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy looking at the creative ideas everyone had… and if you want to vote, go ahead… It caught me at a very busy time, but I’m going to try harder next time! :o)

Dolls and the Rainy Days!

It’s really fun to click on each picture and see if really big! I can’t tell you how many times I have looked at them all!

Well, I sure hope this link works, or those who can’t see them, are going to be so disappointed…

I’m heading to bed, and hopefully I can get to sleep… I was looking at fabrics earlier and sometimes my mind stays busy thinking of ideas while it should be shutting down…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Out here in the Seattle area we are making history. Previous to this past few days, there have only been three days (TOTAL!!) where temps have been 100+ degrees–the last time, in 2007, I think. Today was our second day IN A ROW with 100+ temps (yesterday 100, today 104) and Monday is to be about 110!!!! That is THREE. DAYS. IN. A. ROW. of 100 and up temps. Simply unprecedented, since at least 1894,when they started keeping records.

Since we “don’t get hot weather” out here, very few homes have A/C. Needless to say, virtually every home owner in the area is rethinking this!! LOL We don’t have it (although our cars do), and earlier tonight it was 100° in my kitchen and living/dining room, and 91 in the hallway. I think it’s down into the mid 80s now, but sleeping is difficult, needless to say. However, I am feeling a SLIGHT breeze, and it’s coolish, so I am hopeful this area’s “natural A/C” (the Pacific Ocean) is starting to kick in.

I was able to see all the pictures, but I think I’m a member of that FB page. So very many cute pictures! It was hard to choose. I didn’t keep count, but I think I limited it to 10 or fewer “likes”!!

To vote, you click on the picture, and then click the “like” button. She didn’t say that specifically in the directions, but that’s what *I* did, anyway!! Good luck to Jeanne and Joy!!

Hm, I wonder which dolly will be next?! Gigi is, of course, hoping it will be her friend Ten Ping (and would like to remind Auntie Jeanne that she loves pink! LOL), but it would be fun for it to be a Little Darling, too. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I hope things have cooled off the the evening a little bit… boy, the heat out west is certainly making the news everywhere… I hope you have found creative ways to stay cool… sucking on ice chips, eating ice cream, sitting on ice bags :o)
I’m thinking I might take a screen shot on my phone and show everyone who couldn’t get on the facebook site what it was we were looking at…
The reason I’m late to my comments is because I’ve been working on something… drafting a pattern… and I’m still working on it… so I might just have to show a pattern proof… if I even get that far with it…
      Thanks Charlotte,
Stay as cool as you can,
      Blessings, Jeanne

I will have to come back and reply later. Getting ready to leave for 2 doctors appointment and then off to the Infusion Center at the hospital and if that isn’t enough a stop at the market and pick up prescriptions. All this fun is jammed packed in by 12.

I have never belonged to Facebook. Too much invasion of privacy and I detest the owner. But each to their own. I can’t see anything on her group except where she tells you the rules etc.

Stay cool ladies on the west coast.

Have to agree about Facebook but I’m a hold-out because it’s a good way to keep up with the activities of my far-flung family members – and there are the “doll” pages that I like to keep up with even if I don’t do it often enough.

    2. HI Sandra,
So sorry you have all this going on right now… I wish you were having a normal day like the rest of us… I hope everything went as well as could possible.
Sorry you weren’t able to see the pictures.. I might show them tomorrow…
Take it easy and take care of yourself… it sounds like you are trying…
      Blessings, Jeanne

Well,Jeanne, I cannot seem to get to the pictures on the Meadows website. Not surprising, since I’m not a member, but I am sure they are very cute! When I clicked onto SEE MOMRE, I see that there is a public place that anyone can see, l it no idea how to get there!

Charlotte, I feel very sorry for all the people in your area. I mentioned yesterday about going into the basement during these hot days, but I guess you don’t have one? My sister in Arizona is also having a thought theme with the heat, but they have air conditioning, and are prepared for days like that. We are being hit with drenching rain showers here, and with the humidity, it is very uncomfortable. So many of us are out of our comfort zones now!

    1. HI Linda,
Sorry you missed the pictures too, but life goes on… and I’ll try to keep dolly dresses coming so you don’t have to depend on Facebook… I’m not on there very much… at night is usually when I lay in bed and see what some of my friends are up to and I do list my outfits on Marketplace…
I think we are supposed to get a real drenching of rain on Thursday… I guess we’ll see how that roof holds up… it better!!! Stay inside Linda… it’s much nicer!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Charlotte Trayer

      Thanks, Linda.

Yes, we have a basement, but it is totally unfinished, only the laundry room (and all our STUFF) down there, and no “mod cons”, as my friend Liz calls it (bathroom–LOL). Not a place to hang out, but okay to get away for a few minutes.

It got to 110 at SeaTac today (I saw 106 up here, just north of Seattle), but we are starting to feel some ocean breezes at long last. Tomorrow should “only” be about 90!

  4. Linda in St. Louis

What? I wrote “tough time”, and got “thought theme”? How does that happen?🙃

  5. Susette from Southern California

I’m so sorry so many followers are experiencing the extremely hot weather. I live a few miles back from the ocean in Southern California and it’s high of 79 and low of 65 for the next week and has been for weeks now. But a few miles inland, it’s the usual summer high 90s and 68 at night, but air conditioning is the norm here.

Joy’s dress is darling. Nice choice of patterns for the skirt. The sandals are so cute. Be careful of the little black top that comes with the Stella doll. I had heard about the color staining the body under the arms and, sure enough, my doll had the stains. They weren’t where the stains would normally show, but I threw the top away anyway. Maybe some don’t create the stains.

    1. HI Susette,
You are in the “nice” part of California, I guess… cooler temps and a nice breeze from the ocean, I’m guessing…
I think Joy’s outfit on Ardyn is very sweet too…
My Stella was stained by the top too… I thought about using a Magic Eraser, but haven’t yet… It doesn’t show, so I had forgotten about it.. until I saw her nude today…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Linda from St. Louis

Oh Joy, that’s your doll? I thought it was a random doll on the website that I can’t seem to get! How cute, and how fitting! I think she should be looking eastward since we are so full of rain, it isn’t even funny!

That would be a cute outfit for Josefina that you made!

Hopefully, my iPad won’t be making any “ corrections” for me again! I see others in my first email too! I’m really not that uneducated!

    1. HI again Linda,
Yes, isn’t Ardyn adorable… Joy has a very pretty one, I think… and I too, loved her outfit. It definitely looks like a “cool” outfit… I needed it the other night…
My phone does the same thing as your ipad… they have a mind of their own…
      Thanks,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I have no idea which of the dollies will be next on the fashion list for Jeanne. Can’t wait to find out, although Luca just said that he’d like to see Stella again soon. Guess he’s still smitten with that lovely red hair. 🙂
I really wish everyone could see the amazing photos for the “Rain” contest on Meadow dolls Facebook. No professional/photoshop rain was allowed, so everyone improvised using things like sprinklers, or having a friend pour water from a watering can to fake rain. All so creative. For the next few days, the popular vote takes place, and Jeanne’s sweet “Always Room for One More”, photo is getting lots of votes. I didn’t make Ardyn’s dress and could not participate in any of the water adventures like I wished. Since we’re lugging buckets of shower water outside to water the few plants that are surviving, using water to make a scene was not an option. Seeing the creativity in the entries is something to behold.
Glad to hear Charlotte was able to receive a little ocean breeze. Hope it cooled off overnight a little so getting through today will be tolerable. After three days, the houses heat up so much that it difficult to cool anything down. Lucky us in northern CA coastal area, as the fog has been rolling in, and we have escaped the high heat of the central valley.
On to the Fourth of July! Has anyone created a scene or plan to? I know the grands are looking forward to their neighborhood parade this year. Here, all fireworks are banned due to the extreme fire danger, but the dollies want to dress festively and have a picnic. Sounds fun to me. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
I was wondering if Luca had gotten over crush on Stella… she was wondering too! :o)

I’m going to try and show the rain pictures tomorrow… if I can do that… I wanted everyone to see them if they could…
Linda sent me some pictures today… of her girls dressed in Red, White and Blue… I plan to share them…
You need a contest where “dryness” is the theme…. you could win!
      Thanks Joy,
      blessings, Jeanne

  8. Kathie from Omaha

Oh dear….poor Charlotte! I hope you have some fans! That always helped out in the days before AC!
Joy that picture is just what everyone who needs rain looks like…staring at the sky! We luckily have had some good rains the past couple weeks🤗
So what doll will be the next one to model Jeanne’s talents? We will stay tuned!

    1. HI Kathie,
The heat is the talk of the town, isn’t it? It was on the 5:00 news, the 6:00 news and I’m sure it will make the 10:00 news too… Lots of people are affected by it… It is so muggy here…it’s like a sauna when you step outside…
I hope to show you what I’ve been working on today…I’m drafting a new pattern and it’s taking longer than I thought it would…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Barbara in SE Texas

I can relate to the dilemma of existing in very high temps and humidity without A/C. I’ve had my A/C unit go out enough here to get the picture. I once lived in an apartment complex that was taking its good old time getting my unit fixed. I invited the manager to come for dinner in my stifling apartment. She didn’t take me up on it but my A/C was fixed the next day.

Before I forget, there is a site on the internet for the “top 5 portable air conditioners”. The #1 pick is or is similar to one I’ve been seeing on TV lately. I’ve really thought about getting something like that if they start really fooling around with our thermostats. It would be necessary for sleeping. We turn our A/C down at night. We wouldn’t sleep well at the temp we set it during the day. Fans are not good if it’s too hot unless you put ice in front of them, as they did for my high school graduation. Our school in Wilmington, DE, had A/C but with all 300+ of us on stage it was not enough. We had people passing out at rehearsal so for the graduation ceremony they brought in fans and blocks of ice and it worked great.

My son being in the A/C business has just run into a real house of horrors. The supply houses are having trouble getting parts for the A/C units and some of the units themselves are in short supply. Not to mention the problem this could be for him financially but A/C is essential here and for those who do not have it, the summer would be unbearable if it weren’t for cooling centers. Some financially challenged families buy a window unit and put it in the living room and everyone sleeps in there. There is a movement to do away with A/C in homes altogether and I hope this is not the precursor of that. The unforeseen consequences of doing that would be enormous. Before A/C the population in the Houston area was minimal compared to today.

I looked at the entries on the Meadow Fan Page the other day and enjoyed them all, but I’m sure there are more now so I will look again.

There is no question Ardyn is pleading for rain. She has the perfect expression on her face. I love her outfit.

The guys headed out for the job this morning but the alternator for the dozer did not come into San Antonio as was expected and that and the fact that they are finally expecting some rain out in that area brought them back home nearly as soon as they left. The best laid plans…

    1. HI Barbara,
My hubby spent the better part of the day working on an air conditioner at church… he got a call last night that it wasn’t working…. so he was there today trying to fix it… I guess he did, but I forgot to ask him… oops!
Just as soon as I wrote that line, I got a phone call from our pastor, looking for George to thank him for all his hard work today fixing the AC… so I guess he did get it fixed! Yay!

I hope your guys get another try at getting the job finished when the rain lets up… just be glad the rain is coming… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

I bet your son is up to his eyeballs in headaches about not being able to get certain parts for the AC’s he is working on… what a trial that must be…

Dear Jeanne, it sounds like this was an interesting week on the Sofa.

I am just back from the Madame Alexander Doll Club convention in Troy, Michigan. I had so much fun! It was great to see my dolly friends. The programs were interesting.

I even tried my hand at a (everyone should sit down for this – laugh) a craft!
I made dolly greeting cards, not the ones for dolls but the ones that have photos of dolls on them. The craft leader let us choose between glue in a bottle or a glue stick. I raised my hand for the glue stick. I got yucky stuff on my fingers once but I had my hand sanitizer handy and it came right off, said the non-crafter. I didn’t get all of my cards made so I brought them home with me to finish.

Next month, I am off to the UFDC convention in Baltimore. If any of the Sofa Sisters are going, I hope they will let me know so I can connect with them.

Thanks for saving me a seat!

    1. HI Dorothy,
It was an interesting week on the sofa and we missed you! I know you had LOTS of fun at the MA doll club convention… I am so glad you had some fun and saw your friends… did you buy any new dolly’s? :o)

What? YOU did a craft? Yay for you! I’m glad you did and I bet you did just fine! You’ll have to show us what your cards look like… that sounds fun!

You are the world traveler and now another convention in Baltimore… I think this is a big convention, isn’t it? I hope you have a great time there too!
We always have a seat for you… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. First, I want to thank Joy, Jeanne, Marilyn, Sally and Linda on their kind and caring comments about my sweet Treacle. I only looked back that day and the next, so if I missed someone please forgive me. I’m okay, but still have a long way to go, but I’m back.
It’s extremely hot and dry here as well, but things are still green. I can’t get the link to open either, probably because it’s for members only. Ardyn certainly looks like she’s praying for rain. I hope it comes soon. Good luck to Joy and Jeanne in the contest.

    1. Welcome back Laura,
I knew you must be having a hard time losing your sweet kitty, and I hope you are okay a little bit… it takes a long time to get over the loss of a pet… my mom bawled like a baby when we lost Lassie…
I’m going to show the pictures tomorrow for those who couldn’t see them… I hope I can do that… I’ll certainly give it a try…
      Thanks Laura,
      Take care and welcome back…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Dorothy L from SW Pa

To anyone experiencing heat, water/rain shortage, fire threats, power grid problems you are all in my thoughts (not that that helps you.). Just like when the kids had a fever, a small basin of water with a cloth and a fan even a hand held old fashioned one is a wonderful thing!
Joy I love the outfit Arden is wearing, that skirt has either inspired or intimidated me. Lol
The material mix is so cheerful. But I think I see a rain dance coming.

    1. HI Dorothy,
I agree with all your ideas, and I suggested Ice Cream too… that’s been known to cool me off big time before… of course it didn’t help my waist line much, but I was cool!
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the outfit that Joy made… Ardyn certainly wore it well…
Rain should come just because she’s so adorable.
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne
