A ribbon exchanged for a bluebird…

I hope you won’t mind, but I did a little change-up on Kirsten’s dirndl! I’m sure Sissy and Joy won’t mind… I just hope I got it right because I made an executive decision and changed it without asking anyone! (I guess you can do that when you are the designer!) ;o)

Most everyone was kind and didn’t say a word but maybe you were just being kind… and WANTED to say something… and I’m not at all saying Sissy and Joy WEREN’T being kind, but they just mentioned they didn’t care for the ribbon at Kirsten’s collar…

Well, to be truthful, it was the best I could do with WHAT I HAD a the time… so you know what that meant? I GOT TO GO TO HOBBY LOBBY TODAY! Yep, I did…and I found something I was pretty sure would work… I just hope now that Sissy and Joy don’t end up liking the green checked ribbon better than what I bought… (If you do, don’t tell me!) :o)

I looked and looked and even got concerned that the girl in the jewelry aisle at Hobby Lobby was worried I was going to steal something because I was in the aisle so long, looking and looking and looking. I just knew there had to be something there that could work.

I found this little bluebird charm…which was actually sold as a set along with a bigger filigree gold antique looking heart. The heart was too big to use with the bluebird, so I just used a simple gold heart I already had and put it behind the bluebird and then beaded some gold beads so it looked like it was on a necklace.

It’s actually just sewn underneath the collar and dangles freely… no having to hook on a necklace. The bluebird is the prettiest color of blue and matches wonderfully!

ALSO, more good news… I GOT THE SET LISTED ON EBAY…it’s on right now! You can see it by clicking the picture at the right side bar or your can click HERE.

I even made it outside and took some pictures of Kirsten…

I hope you like it!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

You know, Jeanne, I didn’t really mind the green checked ribbon; in fact I rather liked that it was Not too “matchy-matchy”. That said, however, I think the bluebird charm/necklace is actually Better! Perfect shade of blue, just the right size, nicely positioned. Well done!

  2. Oh, that little bluebird is just perfect, Jeanne! I wasn’t too keen on the green in the ribbon, but of course, didn’t say anything. You put so much of your heart and soul into each outfit, and I cannot for the life of me say anything that would hurt your feelings. It wasn’t horrible, but kind of distracting. This little bird is perfect in every way! Does that sound like Mary Poppins??

Wow, your pink clematis flowers are beautiful! Mine have just started opening, but are purple. Kirsten picked the right time to “bloom” too!

  3. I did see the tie-in with the green ribbon and the leaves between the flowers on the neckline, but the bluebird necklace is wonderful. You are so creative! That’s funny about being watched in Hobby Lobby. I had that experience while standing and staring, trying to pick out which fruit combinations to buy while a sweet little lady was restocking the shelf on Saturday. We almost became friends after a few laughs about my indecisiveness and assuring her she wasn’t in my way.

What a beautiful dress! One class I had to choose from in college was Small Group Communication. I didn’t really want to take it, but it ended up being one of my favorites. It was based on the “two heads are better than one” theory, although there were five of us in each group. Your group is quite a bit larger but the effect is the same. Great work, Group.

    1. I can just see Jeanne and Susette out shopping and catching the eye of the store detective who begins to secretively follow them up and down the aisles. What a pair. 🙂

  4. How did you get the grass to match the trim om the vest? I also think the bluebird makes the bows in Kirsten’s hair show up more. Her new “heirloom” necklace is a lovely touch. I liked the ribbon just fine, but this is way better.

I have to say that you have a very pretty Kirsten. I especially love the AGs that look ready to take on life with undaunted enthusiasm. She deserves this dress.

I’m admiring your grass and clematis. We are supposed to get between 5 and 10 inches of snow today. If we do, it will finish off the crabapple blossoms that are all over this part of town. This is not an unmixed disaster — it will save hours of raking in fall. It will also prevent me from making crabapple jelly. However, there’s a ton of fruit at the farmers’ market. We’ll see what happens.

    1. Please Marilyn, quickly have a trainload of snow shipped here to northern CA. We can let some melt to water the lawn and share wheelbarrows full with the neighborhood. Some will water their meager plants and others will collect the melt for drinking water. Thanks so much. 🙂

      1. We have farm property in Kansas and believe it or not we watch the snow accumulation more than the rain. The snow stays in one spot and melts and provides good subsoil moisture for the crops in spring. The rain tends to run off more. However, I don’t think I’d be big on getting snow anywhere in mid-May.

  5. Yay for you, your blue bird “necklace” is the perfect choice. This outfit really makes me wish I was “into” AG dolls. I almost caved years ago when Molly came out, as she is my childhood era. I even recognized some of her toys! Anyway, this outfit should go through the roof! I hope it does!

  6. Big mouth reporting here: Delighted to see the great change to Kirsten’s outfit. The little bird necklace is feminine and demure. Just suits a sweet little girl. Love it.
And I see there is a bid. Go Jeanne Go!

  7. Count me among those who weren’t sure about the checked ribbon. I liked the ribbon and I liked the idea, a lot, but I thought it competed with the floral trim. I like the bluebird best. Good move!

  8. What beautiful photos in your listing. The clematis is lovely, perfect bloom time for this outfit. Although the apron is perfect for this set my favorite pic is Kirsten standing on the brick path showing the dress without the apron. Go figure?! The flower ribbon trim at the neckline looks like it was created just for these fabrics. I think someone was paying attention while taking “clothing and textiles.” Lol.

  9. Definitely love that bluebird necklace. Kirsten’s “Bluebird of Happiness’ dirndl is just darling. I have, and love, her little wooden bird whistle. It’s plain, but seems so perfect for her era. I was one that wasn’t fond of the ribbon, but I assumed it was removable and if the winner didn’t like it could take it off. Since I saw the comments yesterday about carrying the flower trim to the back I would have suggested that, but it was obviously all together plus I had no idea if that was the last you had. I always thought it was off looking that AG didn’t carry the soutache braid around the back of Addy’s Cape Island dress. I’ve seen the knockoffs and they do. The missing trim is a lot more obviously on a plain dress though.
The dress is lovely and the ties on Kirsten’s loos are so pretty to set off her eyes The apron is so dainty and sweet. The outdoor photos show it off so well. Your clematis is beautiful. My purple blue one is still in tight bud.

    1. I came back to comment again. I hadn’t seen that the back of the dress was pink. I thought it was the blue of the vest and that’s why I though the trim should go all around.
Actually, I think most keep their dolls facing forward to see their smiling faces. I have posed mine with an over the shoulder look or sideways back to back with another, but never faced the wall. Anyway, the dress is darling and I hope Melody’s new Kirsten gets it. She needs a welcome home dress.

  10. I tend to be very eclectic so I was good with the green checked ribbon. I have that ribbon in two sizes and love it. But because of my eclectic nature I also love the bluebird necklace. I also don’t mind that the back of the top is all pink. Mostly because I love the fabric. But if you had done the back in the blue, I would have liked that too. I think they call people like me wishy-washy. At least when it comes to creativity.

  11. Count me with the ribbon lovers… I always am amazed when different designs look cute together but I must say the bluebird is adorable! This is such a great combination. The clematis photo is outstanding! My neighbor just planted one on the fence line so we will get to enjoy it too.
    Another fantastic outfit Jeanne !

  12. Hi Jeanne, love the ‘necklace’ I didn’t mind the green bow but like the bluebird better. I wasn’t so keen on the vest not going through to the back but I understand why you didn’t change it, I wouldn’t have either lol. I see there are already 4 bids on it so it will do well I am sure.
Your clematis is gorgeous, I have a purple one that has flowers as big as saucers. When we first moved in I had the old garage demolished to make way for the new one with my workroom attached. I found the clematis in the space behind it was a pretty weedy thing but I dug it up and put it in a pot to see if it would grow. When the garage was finished I planted it in front. Now I wish I had put it somewhere else it is so big. It does look fabulous in the spring though.
Finally we get some real rain. unfortunately it means the lady who does my garden probably won’t be here which is a shame but the rain was sorely needed. The dog won’t get his walk either and I don’t think he will be happy about that but if I took him he would be dragging me back home before we got 500 metres down the road. We don’t mind a bit of drizzle but this is more than that. Yesterday it was 24C which is pretty warm for this time of year (equivalent to November for you) today the high will be 10C! Never mind we enjoyed the warmth while we had it.
I was reading through yesterdays replies and there were a lot of them. Your blog is becoming very popular. I love the conversations.

  13. I guess I’m in the minority, but I really preferred the green ribbon. I thought it gave a more folk dress type feel to the outfit, if that makes sense. But, I like a mix of color and patterns, and of course, I have no idea what potential buyers might like, which is really the deciding factor. I’m sure it will do well.

  14. Hi Jeanne,
I didn’t get a chance to wish you a happy mother’s day, so to you and all the mama’s out there… Happy belated Mother’s Day! I hope you all had a lovely day!
Jeanne, your kids were such little cutie pies and have grown to be such attractive adults. I think this is the first time we’ve seen a photo of Kristoffer grown up. The photo of them with your Mama is so sweet and definitely frame worthy. Such wonderful memories captured on film. I need to have some of my photo’s printed before they accidently disappear forever. The age of technology is wonderful until you lose a memory stick or your device quits working, then all those photos taken are gone forever.
Kirsten’s outfit is so lovely. I thought the green ribbon was very nice and probably what Kirsten would have worn at the neck but I think the little heart and bird is sweet too.
Jeanne you and hubby did an awesome job on the siding! Now everything is ready for the new roof. I’m so excited for you, I know you’ve been waiting for a while and now it’s happening soon! I always enjoy photo’s and your hankie collection was fun to look at.
Your clematis is beautiful! I’m so jealous I have never been able to grow them. I’m not sure why… it’s either the wind here or the critters that munch on everything.

I didn’t get a chance to send my sympathies to Sally…. Sally I’m so very sorry for the loss of your fur baby Chester. It’s so very hard to say good bye, making that decision is heart wrenching! Sadly we lost our Lab January 2nd, he was showing signs of dog dementia. Becoming aggressive and confused. He bit several times, finally my four year old grandson was bit. It’s never easy… Harley was such a happy boy and although he wasn’t
a good listener he was wonderful company and a good snuggler! He is missed as I’m sure your Chester is too.

Charlotte, you and Ron are in my prayers. I read where the monitor didn’t show any signs or issues and his doctor appointment was coming up. I pray whatever it was it’s nothing serious and that he gets a clean bill of health.
    Hugs and blessings to all
    Ingrid

      Hello, Ingrid.
Thank you for your condolences and allow me to reciprocate them for your loss.
Chester was a black English lab and also very sweet. He also had dementia that came on so fast. Probably a brain tumor the vet said. Years ago I had a chocolate lab that got dementia and bit my hand pretty badly. I gave him another year, but never trusted him. We lived where we had very little company coming to the house so that was why I waited, and he was only 9. Sure is a tough decision, so thank again, and my heart goes out to you.

I have been laughing at the comments today. I think we all over the place on the collar trim. The bluebird is darling. I would have liked the green gingham because, as someone else pointed out, it seems like something that would more likely be available to Kirsten, maybe a ribbon given to her by her grandmother, perhaps. Whatever! It is another dear set and I love, love the comments.
Yes, the pictures are gorgeous as is your clematis. Color me green.
