I hope it’s COLD somewhere, because I have a doll COAT “almost” ready for someone to buy…

It’s funny… I was working on Sara’s coat this afternoon, trying to think of what my title could be for Friday’s post… I thought of what I’d use… and typed it in…. Then I went to my blog comments and read through them, and the VERY last one was from Marilyn, mentioning they had gotten 8″ of new snow… and there were plenty of dolls who may still need coats! That made my night! Thanks Marilyn…
Now I can continue with getting it listed…I thought I had waited TOO long! I’m almost ready… I may make ONE more thing…

I’ll show you what I have done for it now…

LOTS of you wanted faux pockets and I aim to please… so let there be pockets!

I used tulle on the back side of the pockets AND the collar, so they are super thin and lay flat against the coat, making it look much nicer…

…and I wasn’t happy with the back of the coat and had decided last night that I was going to make the back belt over in the black corduroy… It looks much better and you can actually see it now…

I took some close up pictures of the black pinwale corduroy… (that’s the finest corduroy comes) so you could actually see it… I know black is hard to photograph…

Sara loves her new coat and we had a pretty fun photo session… even at 11:00 p.m.!!! I was editing the pictures and thought, my goodness, there’s an awful lot of these… so I counted them… EIGHTY SIX pictures! Yikes! I edited and culled quite a few. I think I’ll just mostly do a slide show here for you… since I’ll probably try and take better brighter pictures for my Ebay listing…
I think for the most part, the pictures turned out pretty good… She was in a good mood and loves how she feels in it!

Oh… her dress… I guess I better show you that… It’s just a simple sleeveless dress with a touch of black lace across the waist and I’ve added some felt flowers for a bit of color… I raised the waistline about 1/4″ before adding the skirt.

I made her a hat and added a little black and white bow on the band…

Here are some more pictures…

This is the inside of the coat…unlined, but still serged and very neat…

I hope you like it…now have your girls call 5 of their girlfriends and ask them if they need a new coat? :o)

I’ll see you tomorrow…
Blessings, Jeanne

P.S. There are 640 hits on Emily! Yippee! Lots of people taking a look at her. I hope she finds a nice “forever” home!

Wow, I really love this coat now!! Using black for the back belt and faux pockets really made quite a difference! For future reference, I think I might have moved the pockets up just a little bit, but that just might be because I prefer to have My pockets a little further up on my body.

The dress is fabulous, also. The black lace at the waist adds so much!!

I see you already have multiple multiple bids on Emily!! For sure she will have a forever home!!

My “no-expo” day: I went out to the town of Snohomish, and spent most of my time in Quilting Mayhem, a quilt shop which also has started carrying some garment fabrics (yay!). They are also a Bernina dealership. I spent a fair bit of time there (and some bucks!), mostly got fabrics that coordinate with that “purple parasol parade” fabric I won from Indonesian Batik last year when my suggestion was chosen for the name of the print. I also got a nice 100% cotton jersey knit for a summer t-shirt. The only other store I stopped at was Joyworks, where I got a couple of little things.

By the time I was done, my left foot was really hurting, so I was glad to come home, have supper, then ice it for a while and take a nap! I did post about my stuff on FB again tonight, too.

  2. You did exactly what I thought the coat needed, Jeanne! Adding the pocket flaps and turning the back tab to black made all the difference! Without that, it could have been a bathrobe! The dress is adorable, and I love the touch of black lace! The hat….just perfect, and Sara looks absolutely thrilled to be your model! Little does she know……then again, maybe she does!

It’s the perfect coat for now, not too heavy and just right for these changing temperatures. You always need a coat for spring! And if the coat is not needed, there is always that darling dress to wear! You scored a perfect 10!

  3. That is an adorable coat, and it is so nicely finished on the inside. I like the addition of the little details—they really do make a world of difference. The dress color looks amazing in your photos. It is a jewel tone that almost glows on my screen. I think it compliments the coat very well.

Good luck with your auction for Emily. I see she has gotten quite a few bids and still a day to go.

  4. Sara looks pretty spiffy in her new dress. The color is great and the boots finish it off nicely. The change to a black band on the back of the coat is the perfect touch. I think I would have liked the pocket flaps more towards the waist rather than on the thighs, but others may disagree. Either way, the pockets add the perfect touch of interest. Now, a late snow flurry won’t be a problem for Sara. 🙂
We’re heading to see the grands tomorrow and celebrate a late eight year old’s birthday. Haven’t seen them since Christmas. Yahoo!

  5. Well, that outfit is darling and should make someone very happy — the boots are perfect with it and you should probably tell us and the buyer where to find them and what size. If she had shoes and thigh-highs, the dress would be pretty for Easter and go nicely with the yellow one or the turquoise dress if either owner happened to be looking for a dress for a second doll. Funny how I can always figure out how to make more work for you.

Those of us who get Virtual Doll Convention mail got a good one yesterday — a picture of the owner in 15 inches of snow. Our 8″ was nothing to that. It looks to me like you could easily do another coat if you wanted to. You are sewing very fast this year.

The painting appears to be moving ahead quickly as well. I too like the texture. Time for another cabinet picture before our post-less Sunday.

  6. Yay! The added black trim really pulls it together!
All day yesterday I worried about letting my little dog out in our back yard. Kept a close eye on him. Stood in the doorway so I could race out if needed. Why? The night before we had coyotes right by our house! I was sitting up in bed reading and D was in the living room when I heard these weird noises like howling. Our dog has only made little howl sounds in his sleep. This went on and then thought I heard voices. I got up and met my hubs in the kitchen. “What was all that noise? “ He said it’s coyote mating season and they get a little crazy. They were yipping and yowling and carrying on. We didn’t see any in the dark but when he flipped on the back yard light, it went silent. We never heard them again that night or last night. GEEZ! They had to have been right by our house for the light to scare them away. I haven’t looked to see if there are any tracks in the snow. I’m freaked out enough as it is! Our town is tiny. 6 houses 7 people. But still! Hubs was at his sisters house one night in her town (bigger at around 1000 people) and they saw one run across the street. Right in town! I’m getting worked up again. 😳 Time to get busy!

    1. I too would be very nervous about coyotes. South of here in the SF bay area, a town has been trying to trap one that has been biting people. In fact, a lot of people. All over town. This is a very populated area. They know it is the same animal as they have it’s DNA. Those bitten include a 4 year old with her mother and baby in a stroller on a bike/walking trail, a person running the track at the high school, and a bunch of others. Hope the ones near you are gone soon or trapped and relocated.

  7. Sounds like you had a fantastic day. So lucky to have great fabric stores near where you live. I think I would die and go to heaven as we have none. I could shop online but there is nothing like feeling the fabric you want to you.

  8. Pocket flaps! Great! I like the black belt across the back too. Lovely outfit for spring where I came from. We always had spring coats of some type to wear for Easter, especially if it was in March or early April. I really like the dress. Simple but very lovely.

FF Hanna joined the family yesterday. She was ecstatic to see Sara, Bella and Stella and right away they started talking about what they wanted me to make them for Easter. Bella has a pretty dress from last year but the other three need dresses. They picked their patterns but are having a hard time trying to decide which fabric they want, especially Hanna. She says she wants something spring like but not too “dainty” I think is the word she used. With all the choices hopefully we can find something that is perfect for her and that looks good with her light skin and dark hair. Sara and Stella are having trouble eliminating fabric since there are so many they like that would go well with the pretty dress patterns they chose.

The weather here will be warm with rain off and on for the next few days. Usually by the time March rolls around there is little to no possibility of a freeze. We often get cool fronts through March and April. They usually follow some hot weather and are welcome respites before the long, hot summer ahead.

  9. I absolutely love the outfit. The colour is just fabulous. I thought yesterday that the belt at the back would have been nice in black but didn’t want to say anything as you had already done it. Should have known better you will always change something that only ‘almost’ works. Anyway, love the pockets, belt hat and dress and the boots are perfect with it. Maybe just right for a Northern Hemisphere Easter but definitely good for the Autumn here. Depressing that summer will be over on Monday, technically anyway, hopefully the cold weather won’t arrive too soon. It really is so beautifully neat inside as well. I would have had to line it because I can never get the inside so neat.

After temps in the 30’s C last week we had a couple of days in the teens today back to 24C which is just nice. Hope it lasts for a while. Anything over 25C I start to wilt. If it goes over 30C I shut myself in somewhere and put on the AC. We could do with some rain though.

  10. The coat is gorgeous. The black accents on the faux pockets, the band on the back of the coat and collar just took it from ordinary to fantastic. The hat and touch of black are just beautiful. It looks super with the black tights and boots.

I love the color and print of this dress and the touch of black lace around her waist is perfect. I might have missed it but did you create the pattern this the dress also? The dress could easily be turned into a party dress by swapping out the tight and boots to socks and Maryjane’s.

@Julia I don’t think I would step outside the house. That is scary.

  11. Spring coats are definitely worn around here. I had a peach wool and robin’s egg blue corduroy as a young child. As a teen I had a lovely periwinkle blue.
Oh la la,Sara’s outfit is giving me French vibes for some reason. Perhaps she’s off for a croissant at the cafe.
I also thought the back belt should be in black, but didn’t want to be the only one to say so.
Since Joy said it, I will agree that I think the pocket flaps should be closer to the waist.
