Let me “formally” introduce you to Poppy… a little Chibbi doll from My Meadows

I hinted yesterday that I’d show you Poppy, a fun little 8″ doll called a Chibbi, who is made by My Meadows dolls. Poppy is the tan version… but there are chocolate, fair, sunkissed and cream ones too… She is called the Fabbi mold…and there are 3 different molds… think of it kind of like Dianna’s sculpts: #1, #2, #3 and #4. The molds are Vienna, Makki and Fabbi… that’s enough details on that part.
(Correct me if I’m wrong on any of that Joy!)

She is a traveling doll and there are 15 (I think) traveling all over the world, staying 2 weeks at a time with ladies who wanted to host them. I’ve never hosted a doll before and thought it would be fun. Poppy has been all over the place from South Carolina, Arkansas, Arizona, Indiana, Florida, and other places and after she leaves my house, here in Southern Illinois, I get to ship her to a lady in Michigan. Each host is supposed to send a little something in the box and write something in a journal about her stays at your house. You are encouraged to send pictures along too… It was just something fun that Miroslava thought to do during the pandemic since all the doll conventions were cancelled.

Usually the dolls are shipped from host home to host home, but when Donnell found out I was just 90 minutes or so away from her, she opted to bring her down and hand her off personally. She ALSO brought along some other dolls I hadn’t seen before. That is SO much fun….getting to see dolls in person that you’ve never seen before… Donnell also brought me a stack of doll magazines… that I haven’t gotten to yet, but I’m itching to real soon! :o)

Here was Poppy when I first saw her…she has a face shield on, but I don’t think it was for Covid…it’s to protect her vinyl…

I needed to find something to take her first picture on and thought, “this” pink couch would work perfectly… Poppy thinks it’s hers…

She was sent along with the wig and outfit she started in, but I have to tell you that wig is a nightmare…It’s a 5/6 and she absolutely needs a 6/7.

I had a couple of kiddo’s sneak down from the dolly shelf and try to take a peek at the new girl…

I don’t think Poppy even knew Ten Ping and Navi were back there…

If you just “looked” at the wig the wrong way, it fell off, so I desperately found something to use and take a few more pictures. It’s a bit too much hair but at least it stayed on…it’s a 6/7 size. I do like her in this ginger brown color.

I have discovered the little shoes I make for Navi fit her foot! Yay!

Donnell and I chit chatted about Poppy but she ALSO brought along some of her other dolls… this was really fun…She laid them all on my table in my sewing room and I ooooo’d and aaaahhhh’d everytime she pulled another out of her bag… I don’t remember all their names but the big one is Big Stella by Connie Lowe and the next two dolls to the right are Connie Lowe dolls too… the little one is called Stella Flo, I think…

If you click on the pictures, they will enlarge.

They were wonderful to see in person. I’d go CRAZY at a doll convention, I’m sure I would… actually seeing the dolls in person might put me in dolly overload…

One of the things I was most amazed at was the Ruby Red Fashion Friends doll on the left side. She has blonde headed, blue eyed Sara. When I saw her in person, I was flabbergasted. I guess I never paid any attention to her size when I saw it mentioned… but I ALWAYS thought the FF dolls were the same size as the Little Darlings…

…uhhh… they ARE NOT! Maybe you ALL knew that, but I didn’t… She’s the size of the Wellie Wisher dolls… Donnell thought… she seems about that size to me too…

Now I need to know HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE THE RUBY RED FASHION FRIENDS DOLLS? (I’m asking for a friend!) :o) Sara was a BEAUTIFUL doll and I loved how articulated she was… She had the most beautiful flawless, peaches and cream complexion and these two tone blue eyes…

Donnell does all her sewing by hand…BY HAND… the jumper Sara has on was completely hand sewn… believe me! I saw the stitching with my own eyes!

Well, I’m done for today, and it’s early enough I just may have enough time to get Addy’s skirt sewn to the bodice… she’ll be happy and so will YOU!

Have a wonderful Friday!
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, of Course Poppy thinks that sofa is hers! It matches her outfit!! (Wherever did you find it, BTW?! It’s adorable, and I’m quite sure little Miss Gigi would love to have one, also!!) Fun to see Navi and Ten Ping checking out the new girl!!

What a nice visit you had with Donnell, and a chance to “meet” some new-to-you dollies!!

Well, yes, I did know the Ruby Red Fashion Friends are a little larger than Little Darlings. I have Bella, and….tonight I ordered Hanna. My “consolation prize” for not going to Sewing Expo this year, as well as an early birthday present to me. Due to covid, it’s all virtual, and I just don’t “do” virtual stuff. I am So Sad!!! But with Ron here 24/7 (much as I love him) and no dedicated office space where I can shut the door and just watch/participate in classes, it’s just not happening. Besides, for me, at least 50% of Expo fun is seeing my friends, many of whom I see only there.

BTW, the Little Darlings patterns I’ve used thus far will fit RRFF dolls EXCEPT that they are taller so need sleeves, etc. that are a little longer. I made a dress (from the same pattern as the smocked dresses I make) and found that the short sleeves, while okay, would look better–*I* think–if they were maybe 3/4-1″ longer. Let me know if you’d like measurements, Jeanne, in case you make something that might work for both LDs and RRFFs.

We had two dry days (after getting over half our usual January rainfall in the first 5 days) but I hear the rain is back tonight.

  2. I see a Fashion Friend in your future….

It seems a bit strange that Poppy is journeying in a badly fitting wig. I wonder if you can find a similar one in her size. The outfit is cute — the stockings are a nice finishing touch. What souvenirs has she accumulated?

  3. Poppy is a pretty cute little doll………once you get the right sized and styled wig on her! The first wig seems like it will pop right off if you look at it, and shows way too much of her forehead! So glad you will be able to make her a pair of shoes! Carbondale has an excellent shoemaker, you know!! πŸ˜‰

Oh, that Sara! She is the one I have my eyes on if I ever would get another doll! I love her sweet smile and she just radiates sunshine! What do you mean she is the size of the Wellie Wishers? My Betsy wears their clothes, LD clothes, plus Betsy McCall clothes too! She really does look taller that LD dolls, and I do ownder if she can wear their clothes, now that I see her next to an LD doll. However, Betsy McCall dolls do have shorter dresses, since they reflect modern times. Another thing, WW dolls have larger feet than Betsy or LD dolls, who can wear each others shoes.

Bringing back the button talk, guess what I did the other day? I was cleaning out my drawers, and came across buttons that came with various clothes, all still in those little packages, well, I threw them away!! Yes, I did! I have no use for them and cannot even remember what they go with, so out they went. Now before you or anyone has a heart attack, they were not fancy buttons at all, just regular little old white or tan buttons that just aren’t very pretty. I did save the ones that went with coats, or ones that were fancy or whatever, but those little things I have no use for.

Glad to hear good news about your father, Laura. I will keep him in my prayers for a full recovery.

    1. Thank you for your continued prayers, Linda.

No, I don’t blame you about the buttons. I’ll tell you what I do. I have a ziplock bag in my chest of drawers. I keep the tag of the skirt, sweater etc. that the button belongs to and write a a few word description on it. I know, another crazy organized trick of mine.

      1. Good heavens, Laura! YouARE very organized! Truth be told, I have never had a lost button, I sew it right away if it is loose, and most of my clothes are casual, so not too many buttons on them to make it worthwhile, I haven’t bought clothes for quite awhile, with this pandemic, but if I do get something with a unique button, for sure, I keep it. I do save buttons, but very few.

Linda, I have both Betsy and Bella (RRFF), and I just compared them. Betsy comes up to Bella’s eyebrows, so she is a little bit shorter, but not a lot. I haven’t checked body measurements yet, but can do that if you’re interested.

  4. Poppy sure is cute. Her wig looks like she cut her own bangs. Too short and uneven! How many moms have dealt with that disaster? I bet her velvet chair was a jewelry box.

I knew the Fashion Friends were Wellie sized. Their articulation is a huge attraction to me. Are they about the same size as A Girl For All Time? I look at those too, but I like the FF faces more.

  5. I’m glad you got to have fun seeing all those dolls :). I like the picture of the dolls peeking out at Poppy. She looks better with the wig you put on her. Her bangs look too short on the other one. Hope you have another fun day! πŸ™‚

Yesterday at the thrift store, I found a little bonfire that lights up and makes cricket chirping noises. It is a good size for dolls.

  6. I don’t have any RR dolls yet, but Sara is on my list to get this year. I’ve loved her since I first saw her last year. I thought they were close to the Little Darling size as well. Learn something new every day! πŸ˜€

  7. A big Hello, to Poppy! Love the pink couch. Perfect size for the smaller set too.
Donnell’s dolls were exciting to see all lined up because, A Big Stella is headed this way in the near future as well as a Big Meili. Can’t wait for them. It looks to me like the dolls are in order from left to right: Ruby Red Fashion Friends (Sara), Connie Lowe (Big Stella), the next two are both Connie Lowe (Little Meili and hard to see, but I think Little Stella), I believe that the next one is a Forever Virginia doll, but maybe Donnell can correct me if not. The last two unsure? There are three RRFF girls living here. However, they may not be the last as some of the latest are adorable too. In fact, recently, a sweet memory doll in Dianna Effner’s image was produced, but only 50 were made. I wasn’t in on that, but I’ve been eyeing some of the girls, Maya in particular. I like that they are jointed and pose fairly well and come with some wonderful outfits and shoes. Price is reasonable too and they make great big sisters for the Little Darlings. πŸ™‚
Can’t wait to see the skirt on Addy’s dress and further adventures of the new and improved Poppy. πŸ™‚

  8. Thanks for sharing the photos of Poppy and the wonderful dolls that Donnell brought along. I believe the next-to-last doll on the right is a Ucanaan 12″ BJD. These dolls are available on Amazon at very reasonable prices.
I met Donnell at the 2019 Austin BJDC event and was so impressed that she literally stitches away constantly, even during event workshops! She was kind enough to make fabulous dresses for my Connie Lowe little Meili and little Hazel. My girls refuse to take off those amazing works of art created by Donnell.
I have 5 Ruby Red Fashion Friends – Sara, Bella, Hanna, Kayla and Stella. Wonderful dolls! They are almost exactly the same size as AG Wellie Wishers and can wear nearly all WW-size clothes and shoes. They can wear some, but not all, Little Darling clothes and LD shoes do not fit. I think that, for the money, the FF dolls are the nicest quality, most beautiful little girl dolls available today. The outfits they come in are both cute and great quality as are the available extra outfits from Ruby Red.
Very nice of Donnell to bring so many sweet members of her doll family to meet you, Jeanne. And thank you for sharing the photos with us.

Dear Jeanne, what a wonderful dolly day! I am excited to see what you will contribute to Poppy’s traveling trousseau.

I am having a difficult time finding a wig for Lace, my 6 inch doll (Lati Yellow Lea). I don’t know why that is. She is on her 4th wig!

Donnell sounds like a fantastic doll resource. Isn’t it fun to have doll friends nearby?

Our local Doll Club meets on Sunday on Zoom. I have an idea. Hmmm.

  10. What interesting dolls Donnell brought to show you. I agree that Poppy’s wig is not very nice looking on her.
I see the two little munchkins hiding behind the pink couch. So cute peeking out behind Poppy.

I have never seen any of those dolls. I like the red headed doll 3rd from the right. She has a pretty face.

It’s interesting that Poppy will go to many other people. When does it end and who will retrieve the doll?

  11. Poppy will enjoy her stay with you, especially as she has an adorable pink couch to lounge on during her stay. Contributing shoes to her wardrobe will be a wonderful choice
Very interesting dolls Donnell brought to share with you. I actually have seen Ruby Red Sara, though not the others. I think she is adorable and has a sunny disposition.
Remarkable that Donnell sews all the outfits by hand. The jumper Sara is wearing is adorable.

  12. Loved the photo with Navi and Ten Ping peeking from behind the sofa. The sofa is lovely as well, perfect for Poppy.
What a lovely collection Donnell has, and the clothes are so beautifully made. I find all the facts about the different dolls really interesting especially since I had barely heard of any of them before I joined this blog!
Barbara, I am guessing David has had his procedure by now as it is 7.15 am Saturday here which I think is about 11 am Friday, blog time (not sure about your time). I hope everything went well.
Laura, I am so pleased your Dad seem to have come through safely.
Ingrid, I hope you and your family are doing OK, and recovering.
I will keep all of you in my prayers.

  13. Looking at Poppy’s hair bangs (we call it a fringe here) reminds me of taking my youngest son to the hairdressers, I suppose he was about 4. He enjoyed it so much he found a pair of scissors when he got home and tried to repeat it! He took a big lump of hair from the very front almost down the the forehead and because he had only just had the haircut it took a long time to grow out. I went to a parent teacher meeting at school when he was about 7, the teacher said “The other children like Russell, he always has such good ideas”. The way she said it she made it clear she didn’t think they were such “good ideas” lol.

    1. Charlotte Trayer

Hahaha! My son did that, too, Anne–TWICE!!! Fortunately his other grandpa was a barber; I took him down there, and he just cut Daniel’s hair real short all over. It was summertime, so that worked just fine!

It’s always right in the front where it shows most, though, isn’t it?!! LOL

  14. I have RR Fashion Friend Sara, she’s a lovely doll. πŸ™‚ I can name the Connie Lowe dolls; Big Stella, little Meili and little Stella. I have big Stella and little Stella, and I’m going to preorder a big Meili. πŸ™‚

    1. Oh, how fun. Another Connie Lowe fan. Hoping soon to receive Big Stella and Big Meili here. πŸ™‚

  15. 0K…I’m off to see if any of the wigs that are in the garage will work for Poppy…will email pics.
