Saturday’s Show and Tell…

I just have some odd and ends to share today…I’ve been working on altering a suit for a guy at church… a 6’9″ guy… so you can imagine how much I had to let out the sleeves on the jacket and the pants… well, thank goodness the pants had a cuff that could be let out! :o)

Anyway, my sewing time was cut into, so I am going to use some pictures from my readers… oh wait… I have one picture to share… remember my bradford pear trees… so beautiful on Sunday?

Well, this was them yesterday…boohoo!!!

Anne sent me a picture of the costume her daughter Sam and granddaughter Ashley made from recycled materials, (except for the lights… She said it looks much better in person… I bet it does…

Anne also sent me a picture of a granny square ornament she was making. I made a blanket for Kristoffer when he was a baby…just made it one big granny square with a scalloped edge.

One more picture from Anne… I think I missed something here… She sent this picture and it just had Pohutakawa in the subject line…

Laura got a new phone and can now take pictures of her dolls to share with us…

This is Shiloh (aka Marie-Grace) and Galilee (aka Caroline). They are her 1863 Civil War girls and are cousins.

This is Felicity Christiana…

Here is Samantha Evangeline… I believe she was the doll that started it all for Laura!

This is The Queen’s Treasure, Mary doll that she won in a contest this past spring. Her name is Havilah Jubliee ( Biblical place and year where debts are forgiven)

Here is Gilead Moriah. She’s a custom Nellie with a #33’s wig. Laura said she was the final one of the cousins for the Civil War trio but she also steps into Samantha’s world, pioneer, and the 1930’s as a time traveler!

Thanks for sharing your girls with us, Laura! They are lovely… just as you described them! :o)

Here is part 2 of Joy’s Camp Meadow pictures…

She said Molly discovered the out house and wasn’t thrilled…

Part 3 of Camp Meadow…

The campers are in the process of setting up camp. Looks like the girls brought along too much luggage, but the boys have their tent ready to go and have decided to get away for awhile and play some golf.

Here are a few more pictures of Joy’s girls at Camp Meadow… this is part 4…

Joy said today was crafts day. The kids gathered pinecones to make turkeys and had fun doing lots of crafts. This is their last night at camp, so they are roasting marshmallows and singing camp songs. They have had a wonderful time and can’t wait until they can return.

Thanks Joy…I think that gives us enough to keep us occupied for the whole weekend…

Have a great one everyone… I’ll see you Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne

What a fun post! I’m sorry about your pear trees…those leaves went fast! Winter is coming.

Ashley’s costume is fabulous!! Good job and so very creative!! That’s a cute granny square ornament, too. And that word: Pohutakawa that’s the New Zealand “Christmas tree” that I think she talked about a few days ago? It’s really very colorful!

Laura, I loved the pictures of your dolls, and the explanation of who they are and their relationships. I see I’m not the only one who gives her dolls middle names!! My Molly is Molly Caroline (my one grandmother’s middle name was Caroline) and my Kirsten is Kirsten Augusta (my other grandmother’s middle name, and Her mother’s first name). I can’t remember giving Felicity a middle name, for some reason. Then I have AbbyRose Lian and April Eleanore. And those are just my AG dolls!

Joy, your Camp Meadow pictures are wonderful! I totally understand Molly’s reaction to the outhouse! LOL The first time we went to Fortune Lake Bible Camp (in Upper Michigan), I was a little girl and my dad was the chaplain so we all went–and the restrooms were ALL outhouses!! By the time I went as a camper, they had regular toilets. Also, my aunt and uncle’s cabin on Lake Michigan had an outhouse. Years later, the cabin was sold and moved off the property, the outhouse done away with, and my uncle built a beautiful home there.

Anyway, it looks like your campers had lots of fun, and plenty of activities to keep them busy!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for your sweet comments on my dolls. I was glad I can finally share as well. The only unfortunate thing is that they were mostly in their “when I don’t have time for dolls” clothes. Samantha and Felicity wear their “meets” and the others wear white. Giving them middle names is fun. Actually, I took it one step farther, Samantha and Felicity have two middle names plus the last name they came with, while my others have two middle names as well plus a new last name. It’s how I can use all the names I like with a smaller collection.
I like the idea of using family names. Felicity’s middle name “Christiana” came from Christiana Campbell’s Tavern where we ate in Williamsburg, VA, but it happens to be an ancestor’s name as well. 🙂

  2. Yep, Jeanne, that’s the way the Bradford Pear trees here look too!Why can’t they stay pretty longer? It looks like we are getting a reprieve from raking today, since it is raining! I think we are getting Barbara’s rain now. It’s a good day to stay in and make a pot of chili!

Anne, that is some inspiraton your daughter and granddaughter have! That is amazing to be able to create a costume like that! Ashley is a pretty little girl! Did she actually wear that while trick or treating? Love the lights on the tail! Spooky in the dark!

Laura, so happy to have you back! Now we can see your precious dolls and meet them for the first time, although we have heard about them! Your Felicity is so pretty, and I can see what you mean about the older Pleasant Company dolls! I especially like your Gilead Moriah! Did you add earrings to her or did she come that way? I must say your photographs are very sharp and clear!

Somehow there was a problem yesterday when I commented. It kept telling me that I already said that, whatever they meant by that, but I only wrote once! So the only comment I had yesterday was the one where I asked Joy about her tent. While I am on FB, I don’t see her posts, so had no idea. Oh my goodness, all those dolls! I will have to look over them all later, but that outhouse is just adorable! While I lived in the suburbs of St. Louis, my parents bought acreage out in the country and we went out there every weekend. It had an old farmhouse, and and outhouse! For us, the farm was a fun and adventureous place to go to, but that outhouse was cold in the winter! I haven’t been to oan outhouse since back in those days, and don’t miss it at all!

I see a tiny deer in one picture, and do I spy golf clubs? Where in the world did you find those? Thank you all for sending the pictures to Jeanne, so now I have plenty to look at this weekend!

    1. Hi Linda,
Thank you, I’m glad to be back as well. Thank you also for your kind comments on my dolls. Yes, they are special to me because it took me a long time to get them. I must have looked at 50 NRFB Felicity dolls before finding mine. I knew I wanted a 1991 first release one and it took awhile. I really do prefer the PC versions of the dolls that that’s an option for. Felicity was made in West Germany and Samantha is German.
Gilead is a custom I made myself. I bought two new dolls, Nellie and TM #33. I took the wig off of both and put #33’s on Nellie (I sold the other doll and Nellie’s wig).
I pierced her ears myself with a thumbtack so that she could wear human earrings and not have the large holes AG does. If you enlarge the photo you might be able to see them. They are gold kitty faces with black eyes from a set I found at Walmart. =^-^=

  3. Love the before and after tree photos Jeanne. At least the leaves come down all at once, so that is a good thing. Our Sycamores take forever to lose their leaves so it is a continual mess with which to contend. 🙁
Anne’s grand hopefully won the best costume award! How cool is that with lights too. Fun. And what an interesting tree on the card. Kind of reminds me of a bottle brush plant like we have here.
How fun to see Laura’s girls. The ones in their nighties in the snow, burr, but so cute. Your girls are wonderful. 🙂
Thanks Jeanne for sharing the Camp Meadow photos, and thanks everyone for the kind comments. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

    1. Joy, Pohutakawa is the same botanical family as bottlebrush. I love your pictures of Camp Meadow. It must have taken so long to set it all up and get them all dressed and ready!

    2. Hi Joy,
Thank you! Nighties in the snow. LOL I was calling them “angels in the snow”. I tend to put them in white or “meets”when I don’t have time to change them, so there’s not risk of an outfit staining. I didn’t keep the meet outfits that Caroline and Marie-Grace came in because I knew they were going to be a different character.
Even with all this at home time, I haven’t had a lot of time to change them. I’m glad you liked seeing them.

  4. Oh my, what a fun post – all the pictures!!
I must say the dragon costume is beyond any costume I’ve seen. It looks like a lot of work went into it. The detail, the lights in the tail… fabulous. I’m sure Ashley enjoyed being a dragon in it!
One year, my sons wore homemade costumes my sister and I made. ( I can barely sew buttons on truthfully but I worked hard on these costumes under my sisters directions.) One son wore a French fry costume ( fries in the red box) and my other son’s costume was Peter Pan, with magic dust in a pouch, instead of Tinker Bell.

Laura, it was so neat to meet your girls. They are all beautiful dolls. Well cared for. Felicity Christiana has that gorgeous deep red hair too and I believe you did say she was the first Felicity AMG created. I also like the hair your Gilead Moriah (Nellie) has. The style is more appealing to her, I think.
What interesting and beautiful names your girls all have. That’s the fun part.. naming the characters and creating their stories.

And Joy, if your Camp Meadow isn’t spectacular in the doll world of scenes, I don’t know what is. It’s so lively and creative! You did a lot of work setting this up and it us precious. The little ones sitting at the table with their leader – so cute. The projects on the table.., very creative.

What wonderful pictures from Anne, Sam and Ashley, Laura and Joy!! This was so much fun seeing the various types of creativity!
And Jeanne, your pear trees were beautiful this fall. There’s beauty in them for all seasons.
Thanks for sharing all the pictures!

This week, our little poodle passed away. She followed me everywhere and we had a very close bond. But at the age of 15, her little heart gave out. She liked to nap on Addy’s bed in my doll room when she and I went to see the dolls. I think I sent pictures of her curled up on that bed. My heart is broken and I will miss her terribly. That is until I see her again!

    1. Paula, I’m so sorry about your sweet little fur baby passing away. Our pets become such a part of us and our lives, that we only realize it when we don’t have them around anymore. At 15 she lived a good, long life, and I’m sure you gave her as much pleasure as she did to you.

    2. Paula, I am so sorry about your little dog. We love our pets but sadly we usually outlive them. “Grief is the price we pay for love” to quote Prince William, who was quoting the Queen, on a flying visit to NZ after the Christchurch earthquakes and the tragic loss of 29 miners on the West Coast in 2010/11. My son and family have just lost their lovely Charlie who was a Cavoodle, he would have been about 15 as well.

    3. Dear Paula,
Thank you for your sweet comments on my dolls. Yes, Felicity is a Pleasant Company 1991 West German. She’s from the first year she was available. Gilead Moriah is a custom of a Nellie doll with AGOT (TM) #33’s wig. The color is very similar to Nellie’s original, but I wanted a doll with longer hair and no bangs so she could time travel easily and bangs limit that. It was enjoyable thinking of names and creating imaginary stories for them It’s the same thing I did as a child even having extra doll family members that didn’t exist in real dolls. I’m glad you enjoyed seeing them.

I am so very sorry about the loss of your dear, precious poodle. My Yorkie used to love to sleep in my doll cradle when I was a child as well. I’m sure you, like I ,have many wonderful memories of our beloved pets until we see them again. I still dearly miss my dogs that have been gone 27, 16, and nearly 11 years now. We never have them long enough on earth, but we’ll have them for all eternity.May God comfort you.
Here is a poem I have shared before and have loved it since I first found it.

The Loss Of a Beloved Pet
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,”It’s me, I haven’t left you, I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here.”

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.I want to re-assure you, that I’m not lying there.I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said ” it’s me.”

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. It’s possible for me, to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, “I never went away.”You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew…In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over… I smile and watch you yawning and say “good-night, God bless, I’ll see you in the morning.”And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I’ll rush across to greet you and we’ll stand, side by side.I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out…then come home to be with me.

Please accept my condolences, too, Paula. I remember seeing that picture of your sweet little poodle, curled up on the doll bed! What a precious memory. Hugs….

  5. Your trees were really colorful Jeanne, too bad it can’t last longer. Our Red bud tree has lost it leaves but has bushels of seed pods all over it. Sometimes it has a few but these look like leaves there are so many.
Congrats on the new phone Laura! You will have all kinds of fun. Nellie is the prettiest AG I’ve seen for a long time!
Joy…your patience scale is over the top…how you can get all your Meadows in costume and posed blows me away. I was laughing to myself when my hubby came in and he thought they were so cute…and couldn’t believe the outhouse😜
So sorry about your sweet poodle Paula. They are so much company ((hugs))

    1. Hi Kathie,
Thank you so much! Actually, that doll is a custom I made of two available dolls. She’s Nellie with the wig from TM #33. I wanted Nellie’s face with longer hair and no bangs so she could time travel well.

  6. Saturday sharing posts are always fun and today is no exception.
What an incredible costume, Anne. It’s obvious that your daughter and granddaughter have inherited your wonderful talents.
I love the crocheted Christmas tree ornament. So very pretty!! The Christmas postcard is lovely as well.
Joy, your camp pictures are just incredible with all the dolls and little extras. Poor Molly and the outhouse. It looks like everyone has a super fun week. I like the little deer and squirrel. I found a few of those furry animal Christmas ornaments as well, woodland animals and kitties.
Thank you so much for sharing my doll pictures, Jeanne. I’m glad I can finally share things here now once in a while as well

    1. I just realized I forgot to answer you, Jeanne, about Samantha. Yes, she was my first and only for seven years. In 2014 I joined the doll boards and realized adults could have new dolls, not just kept childhood ones. I bought Felicity for my birthday that year and added Gilead for Christmas. The following year I bought Galilee for my birthday and Shiloh for Christmas.
Samantha was delighted to finally have some friends around her.

  7. Thanks everyone for the lovely comments about Sam and Ashley’s efforts, I will pass them on.
Loved seeing all the lovely pictures. I will pass on calling my dolls after my grandmothers. One was Gertrude May and the other Edith Lizzie!!!!! Apparently Edith is making a comeback as a name for new babies but I haven’t seen any Gertrudes yet!
For all the Pohutakawa is called the New Zealand Christmas Tree it only grows in the North Island but that is pretty well par for the course really. Most of the population live in the N Island and most of them think that is NZ! Especially Auckland who have never forgiven the Government of the day making Wellington the capital.
We had 25C yesterday and the same today so pretty hot. Sam and I are off to the Rugby game this afternoon. The local Supermarket must have been given free tickets so are putting on a bus to the stadium and offered some to Delta. Auckland v Canterbury and after what I said earlier in the post you can imagine the atmosphere. I really hope we win, the All Blacks lost last night to Argentina who had never before beaten us! We played like losers from the beginning and they went out with a burning desire to win. They deserved it.
I had better get ready for church, must take the dog out this morning he missed his walk yesterday.

  8. I guess that’s the sad thing about the beautiful fall leaves. They don’t last long. When I lived in Wilmington, DE, my mother, sisters and I used to travel just north of the border to PA to see the beautiful fall leaves. That’s where some of the DuPonts had their estates because it is such a beautiful area. We had to do it quick though because they wouldn’t be around for long.

Whoa! I think the costume Sam and Ashley made looks wonderful and seeing it in person must be amazing. The lights were a great touch. I’ll have to show this to my grandkids. What a lovely tree ornament and the New Zealand Christmas tree looks gorgeous. I looked it up. It said it is a member of the Myrtle family of trees/bushes. Same family as the Crape Myrtle of which I have several in my yard.

What lovely girls Laura has and her phone takes great pictures. They are all sweet looking dolls. I’ve never heard of The Queens’ Treasure dolls. Need to look that up I guess.

I can totally relate to Molly’s displeasure at finding the outhouse. I’ve had enough wilderness camping experience to appreciate her feelings. Most of the pit toilets are maintained by the Forest Service so they aren’t too bad, but occasionally there are others. All I can say is smelly or not, finding one when you need one is a good thing. I’ve never been much for running off to the bushes with a roll of toilet paper in my hand. What a wonderful set up Camp Meadow has. All the comforts of home and lots of fun company to share it with. Joy thinks of everything. Arts and Crafts? What fun! I’m sure there’s singing around the campfire and s’mores in the evenings. Who is the young lady helping the campers with their crafts? I don’t recognize her.

Lunchtime here and no hubby in sight. Guess I’ll go eat so I can get some sewing done. It’s just sandwiches so he will be able to fend for himself whenever he gets here.

    1. Thank you, Barbara. I enjoy my six girls very much. I won my Queen’s treasures doll in a giveaway they had in the spring. She is marketed as Mary from Little House on the Prairie. They also make a Laura doll. The prize was Mary, her lunch, and a horse. Felicity was thrilled to finally get a horse, but all my dolls can used it. I believe they have a few more dolls available. They have a number of nice things that fit the AG dolls, but I don’t have anything except what I won. I would have loved the LHOTP items as a child. Pioneer was my thing in second through fourth grade.

    2. Hi Barbara,
The craft helper is Aya, also a Meadow doll, same size as the Meadow Mae girls. 16″. That size is so fun. 🙂

  9. It might be too late to catch anyone reading Jeanne’s blog this late but I want to say thank you to everyone who understands the loss of a family pet. Honey was our 6th doggie to leave us through an illness. They were all coddled and loved so much and they lived good lives for a good while before health problems unexpected or due to old age. All of them remain in our hearts.
I appreciate everyone’s comforting words and Laura, your poem was lovely and heartfelt. It brought tears that are easy to come at this early time but I know they see us and wait for us.
I have so much to say about these adorable pets but this is Jeanne’s blog, I just wanted to thank everyone.
Hope you get to see this note. You are all wonderful.
    Thanks Jeanne for this outlet.

    1. Hi Paula,
I’m glad the poem spoke to you. Maybe the next day it’s a free or all we could discuss beloved pets. If I think too hard about the ones that are waiting in heaven it will bring tears to my eyes as well, like right now.
Each one is special and precious in their own way. Take comfort that you loved Honey more than anyone else could have. That’s why each pet chooses the prefect family for them.

  10. Anne, the saying you sent is so true! I have never heard that sentiment before. But it is the price we pay in loving these unconditional loyal fleeting fur angels. Sigh.

  11. I’m kind of overwhelmed by this post. The costume is well beyond amazing, Anne. I’ve never seen anything like it. What imaginations they have and the creativity to make it real!

Thanks for sharing your dolls, Joy. That’s the biggest collection I can imagine anyone having. No wonder you took the time to make the tent for them. And all the complete outfits! It’s going to take a while to check out all the details. What are the things that look like artichokes on the tray by the picnic table? See, I am paying attention. Thanks for reminding me of outhouses. Experiences a few as a child in Missouri, church camp and grandparent’s vacation on a farm. Also one in China, but let’s not remember that one! That’s one of the things I like best about the blog, the memories that are jogged. But I did have a tear while reading the poem, Laura. Sorry about the loss of your beloved dog, Laura. 🐕❤️

Laura, your Felicity is beautiful. I have an original one but the hair is not in order. I may have to take her to the AG Store someday for them to style it. Wish I had Jeanne’s talent with hairdressing.

    1. Hi, Susette, the things on the tray are pinecones. Tiny ones. I picked them up on our walks. Actually, I think just the top of the cones left over from the squirrels feast. The girls made turkeys with them. 🙂

    2. Hi Susette,
Thank you for your kind comment on my Felicity. I searched for a long time for my perfect one. Even though it’s not recommended, you can wash their hair with a mild shampoo, just don’t get the wig cap wet. Blot it dry and let it air dry completely. I’ve done it to a couple of my daughter’s dolls and they are no worse for wear.
It was Paula who lost her precious dog, Honey. I was just sharing a poem that I have found comforting since I first saw it many years ago. I can see that it would be easy to mistake so no worries.

  12. Best post ever!! Oh those little cuties made my day and a smile in my heart..lol
Thank you for sharing your beautiful trees with us, I live in Southern California and our trees dont start turning till early December. But luckily this year the cold tempertures came in early, so we do feel a little bit like it is Fall. thank you for Wonderful Posts.
