My best doll shoes EVER!!!

I’m loving that new glue gun… and it’s much quicker to use than the glue in the bottles… although I did use the new Crafter’s Pick glue on the trim along the bottom of the shoe… more in a minute…

After looking at those brown shoes, I decided it was TOO close to Christmas to use something JUST because I had made it and they were cute… I decided I wanted to make something for 8″ Ten Ping after all and this picture gave me permission…

I just thought she looked so cute in this pose and so we started looking at fabrics and Ultrasuede that would work for a new pair of shoes… I dug through my Christmas fabrics and found one that was pretty, but not TOO festive or Christmas-y! I also had a piece of Ultrasuede that I thought would make a great pair of shoes… It’s kind of a hard color to describe and as I look at my pictures on here, it’s not even right… It’s not a blue and it’s not a green, it’s not a blue gray, but it’s a combination of all of those… My lighting wasn’t perfect when I was making this, but I’ll get it right even if I have to move outside to show you…

I cut out the bodice and proceeded to put in the sleeves. Here’s another TIP… use a piece of paper underneath the sleeves to keep them for going all over the place. The paper stabilizes the fabric and it’s much easier to do this way… when you get it stitched… just tear the paper off the backside.

Ten Ping couldn’t wait to try it on…

See the little holly leaves and berries?

The elastic went in the sleeves…

I added the skirt, and some trim and even the embellishment…

THEN… I almost cried when I turned her around… I hadn’t left the skirt section long enough and it was TOO skimpy…Waaaaa!!!

So the trim got removed, the embellishment too, and then the skirt taken off and a new one cut… but you’ll have to wait for that…

Now for her shoes… I’m sorry I took so many pictures, but I was pretty proud of these! I think I got EVERYTHING right on them…

I used to use Aleene’s Turbo Tacky glue as it was supposed to hold things together to quickest… Well, let me tell you, as I was using my new glue gun today, there was NO comparison on how fast the glue worked… It was easier to do because I didn’t have to hold things between my fingers for so long.

I even got the soles perfect, (at least I think so…)

I used my pinking shears and cut a zig zag piece to go around the bottom edge of the shoes… I’ve never done that before…

I used the Ultra Thin Velcro on them too…

They are SO little… about an inch long…

I did a little top stitching along the strap this time… and liked the way it looked… then sewed a little red button on the end..

Sorry…one more…

I’ll get the dress finished and have more to show you tomorrow…

Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne

Gigi is bouncing up and down beside me (and she should be sleeping, but somehow she just Knew!!) and is saying that maybe she likes blue Almost as well as she likes Pink!! LOL That is such a sweet little holly print, and just the perfect scale for her.

And we both LOVE those shoes!! (Well, after all, I’m a shoe person, so it stands to reason that my “children” are, too, right?! LOL) They are so cute. (At one time I actually had a notepad that said, across the top, “Those SHOES! I MUST have those shoes!!” and showed a woman’s head with her hands up against her cheeks and her mouth open!! LOL)

    1. Thank you Charlotte
I’m glad Gigi approves of Ten Ping’s new dress and shoes!!
I’m a shoe person too… guess MY dolls are too. I do have my fair share for them!!
      Thanks so much…

    1. Hi Julia,
The red shoes had black Cluny lace on them…thanks for the compliments on my new shoes…

      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I can see why you are so proud of those darling shoes, Jeanne! They are simply perfect! And inch long, goodness, what nimble fingers you must have! I like the way you trimmed them with the same colored felt too. Just darling!

I once bought a dress from someone for Betsy that closes in the back, and it looks something like you showed Ten Ping’s dress in the back, it doesn”t meet!. Of course, it was only $12.98, and just a simple little dress, but she did NOT have the back view, so I thought it would be better than what it turned out to be. Buyer beware! Of course, I can’t believe you would do a thing like that, and you know how a dress is supposed to look front AND back!

I love the little print, and the red lace makes it look so festive! I was thinking you were going to add the red lace to the bottom, but will have to wait to see what you have planned. I know the skirt WILL look good all the way around if it is Jeanne Marie Original!

    1. Thank you Linda,
I wish everyone could see these tiny shoes in person… they sre SO cute when you see just how small they are…
I was sick when I discovered I hadn’t cut the dress skirt long enough…I don’t know why I didn’t catch it before I got the trim sewn on and that embellishment on the waist. Oh well. It’s fixed now!!
It’s funny to see you mention a Jeanne Marie Original…that’s what my business used to be called when I made reproduction country romantic dresses and sold them for little girls and women…
      Thanks Linda
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Those shoes are adorable and so tiny. I can’t even imagine how patient you have to be to make these.

  4. Congrats on the latest shoes! The topstitching really adds a finished look and the sweet button too. I like the pinked edging, because that way, there is no need to try and find special trim that might match. And the aqua dress is lovely. Sorry about the skirt blip. The outfit is wonderful for Ten. I’m sure she can’t wait until it is finished.
Yesterday, I was working on an outfit for Isabella, grands paper doll assignment. I’m trying to make a fabric dress. Interesting. If all goes well, Izzy will return home on Thanksgiving after a few more adventures. 🙂

    1. Oh I wish one of my grandkids would get an assignment like Isabella. I would enjoy participating in that. I love paper dolls and what you’re doing sounds like fun. I enjoyed designing clothes for my paper dolls.

      1. Hi Barbara. Grand and her class distance learning read the book Flat Stanley. Then the assignment was to send off the doll to someone who would write back. That way, they would get lots of writing practice. Well, we were the recipients of the paper doll named by grand, Isabella. I didn’t get the outfit done today because we had to have a birthday party for Izzy. Pretty funny as other person has gotten quite involved. 🙂

    2. Thanks Joy,
Glad you like the topstitching on the shoes…I didn’t want to use black trim on the edges, so using the same Ultrasuede was the perfect solution!!
I did look up aqua paint colors on Google and it is kind of in the aqua family…it’s a very pretty color…
Hope you’re having fun with your crafting!
      Blessings. Jeanne

  5. Those shoes are the best ever, you do have them nailed now. I like that you made the scalloped edge in the same color as well.
Aww, that’s too bad about the skirt, but I know you’ll have it fixed up in no time.
The fabric is lovely with the holly berries. My grandparents had a holly bush next to their greenhouse and it was always loaded with berries. The cedar waxwings loved them!

    1. Hi Laura
Well, I may have nailed the shoes but I certainly flubbed up on the length of the skirt…all is well now! :o)
We have holly bushes all around our house and just love them…I love almost any kind of holly fabric.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Those teeny tiny shoes are AMAZING!!! I love the top-stitching on the straps and the zig-zag on the bottoms. What a great job you did. And the color is perfect for the fabric you chose. I can’t wait to see the finished outfit. Are you doing a bralet again?
I’ve always used Tacky Glue on my projects, but now I really want a glue gun like your new one. (Hey, Santa…)

    1. Hi Debi,
I wasn’t planning on making a bralette with this dress. I did alter my pattern just a bit, but this dress is too small for a bralette underneath…
I’m ready to make another pair of shoes JUST so I can use the glue gun again!
      Hey Santa…visit Debi’s house SOON!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. So there are too many shoe photos? Maybe, but the bottoms of those shoes are so appealing that I laughed at those pictures.
I was going to tell you which of yesterday’s fabrics I thought would go with yesterday’s shoes but decided that by today you’d have a bodice ready to admire — and you did, along with another pair of shoes.
Next spring or summer you might consider leaving the butterfly sleeves on a dress for Ten Ping instead of gathering them into puffed sleeves. She looks good in them.

    1. Thank you Marilyn,
I thought it was a bit silly to show the shoe soles but I was SO proud of them… they are definitely the nicest pair I have ever made…top AND bottom!!
Yep…a new day…a new doll and a new pair of shoes!!
Glad you liked her angel/butterfly sleeves!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. The shoes are so cute and I loved the Minnie Mouse dress Joy made. I really don’t know how you girls work with such small items. The holly print is lovely it is a shame about the back of the dress., not really a lot you can do except start again.
For some reason I didn’t get your post yesterday Jeanne, and I got two this morning. I posted on yesterdays blog but then thought no one would see it so I have copied it to here.

Hi Jeanne, I had one of those glue guns with the long nozzle which was great for small projects (at that time I was making flowers from ribbons, told you I was a Jill of all trades and master of none). Unfortunately when I went to use it one day the small nozzle had somehow come out, I never did find it, and the glue was coming out in blobs again. Even more unfortunately I don’t remember where I bought it and have never seen another one.
When I was over in the States on holiday last year I saw there were coupons everywhere. I wish that happened here! I do get a $10 birthday coupon from the two craft stores where I have a loyalty card and the really big Australian store, Spotlight, often has a $40 off coupon (or sometimes 40% off) that they send out on e mail to me but I have to spend $100 to get it on full priced items, not any on sale stuff and all the high priced items like sewing machines and Cricuts are excluded.
I am busy making stuff for the Christmas market that my friend is having next weekend. Last year I gave my grandchildren and a couple of my friends a microwave bowl cosy each. I put a bowl in each one and for the children I filled the bowl with chocolates and for the two friends I put in a packet of mixed nuts and fruit. I have made several for the ‘shop’ and Helen liked my idea and has promoted it to people coming in so there was only one left. I said I would make some more and one of the friends said she would like 3 and another friend thought it was a good idea so said she would like 3 as well. On Saturday the cake dec guild I belong to has an AGM and Christmas party and we take a gift to exchange. Yesterday I went to lunch at Delta and took 13 cosies for my friends to choose which ones they wanted. one who wanted 3 changed her mind and bought 6, the other friend took her 3, someone else saw them and bought one and someone else bought another. Out of 13 I have 1 left for the market next week lol.
I have a funny story that a friend shared on Thursday. She went to Auckland last week for a memorial for her sister and one of the guests (male) looked familiar but she couldn’t place him. Eventually they ended up at the buffet together and she decided to talk to him. She thanked him for coming and then apologised but she didn’t know his name. “I’m Bob” he said. It was her ex-husband.

    1. Obviously Bob was a distant memory. That was hilarious! But in all honesty, I was married back in 1968 (to a Bob). It lasted about four years when he decided he wanted out. I have not seen him since 1973. In all honesty, if I saw him on the street I’m not sure I would recognize him now. He was ten years older than me and that would make him 83 now. I’ve kept in touch with his oldest daughter but have not even seen a picture of him in years.

    2. Hi Anne
There really wasn’t much I could do about that dress except start over…and I did and it’s all fixed now… Yay!!
I really have given the glue gun a workout since I got it and am very pleased with it. Ut works well for what I want it to do…
Happy sewing on your cosy bowl covers…they sound like a fun gift to make and “get!”

Funny story about the mystery hubby! :o)
      Thanks Anne
      Blessings, Jeanne

    3. Hi, Anne, I don’t laugh out loud much, but your story about Bob really did it. Thanks so much. Needed that! 🙂

  9. Well it’s 5:25 p.m. now and I’m just getting on the blog. I had no internet all morning and was busy doing other things when it came back on so I didn’t notice. Not having cable or the internet most of the day, I actually got a lot of things done. Moral of the story is I have no self-discipline when the TV and internet are available. Is there an intervention for that?

Ten Ping’s dress is absolutely adorable. Oh how we do hate surprises when it comes to sewing, but there are many sewing mistakes that could have been worse. It’s an easy fix unless you don’t have enough fabric to do it. The fabric is really sweet and I love the color. And the shoes!!! What’s not to love about them. They are so perfect – and so little. I love the pinked edging and the stitching on the straps. My many dolly children have shoes galore but sometimes it’s frustrating when I can’t find a certain kind of shoe in the right size for one of my dolls. Some dolls like LDs, 14″ Betsy, Tiny Betsy and the Heartsrings dolls have lots to chose from, but some have very few choices and sometimes it’s the same shoe only in different colors. I get something in my mind that I want and it doesn’t exist, so I really need to try some cobbling.

Joy mentioned yesterday she wanted to see the ticking dress I made for Paola Reina, Cleo. I really need to do a quickie photo shoot because some of the girls got new back-to-school clothes and, since I didn’t do a school photo shoot this year, they feel slighted that no one has seen their new duds. I made a couple jumpsuits for Bella and Sara. I think it was a Sew Dolled Up 81 pattern specifically for the Fashion Friends. It looks like pants and a blouse, but it’s all one piece. Fun to sew and so many possibilities for fabric. And then there’s Sophie’s little pleated skirt I made after your tutorial. Now that I’ve taken the plunge and used my Perfect Pleater, I will be making more. I remember my sisters and I having suits with pleated skirts for Easter when I was little. Very dressy looking.

I was going to head out to walk at 5:00 but the sky looked really threatening. I walk around a lake at our Little League ballpark. It’s 1/2 mile around. I could see me getting half way and the sky opening up. There is no way to get back to my car but to finish the circuit. I opted for commenting on the blog instead.

    1. Hi Barbara
Welcome back even if you think you are late. When my internet is out I can get lots more done too.
Thank you for your kind comments on ten Ping’s dress and shoes. I know what you mean about looking for doll shoes and them being the same style…just in different colors. There are some stunning shoes made from leather on Etsy I am SO intrigued by them.
So glad you got out your perfect pleater and used it… and got some sewing done. Maybe you’ll make a pleated skirt for all your girls for Easter! :o)
Good choice on commenting…and no chance of rain!!! :o)
      Thanks Barbara
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Good heavens…those shoes are brilliant! I remember sending you some ultrasuede scraps long ago……and just look what you have done! It is great to work with but your talent with tiny things has gone over the top!
The dress is going to be so sweet. Christmas it is but not too much fru-fru
What are thoughts from all you EBay sellers about the new process? I wish they would leave it alone.😲but it doesn’t appear there is a choice😟

    1. Hi Kathie,
I just had your Ultrasuede scraps out yesterday. I’ve used several pieces you sent.
      Thank you again!
Please tell me Ebay hasn’t changed something since I last posted a dress….whats new?
I HATE change so if they have changed something I’ll be unhappy… :o(
      Thanks Kathie
      Blessings, Jeanne
