I now own FOUR glue guns…

Before I start today’s post… let’s take a look at some cuteness… Some dolly cuteness. Brought to us by Joy…well, really by Ardyn! Yesterday was Minnie Mouse’s birthday and Ardyn got to celebrate it wearing a new dress Joy made for her… Look at this cutie! I think Ardyn is going to want “Minnie More!”

Thanks for your comments yesterday… sorry, no comments from me… too busy of a day around here! But I did read them all! :o)

I may own 4 glue guns but I’ve only bought one! See these black ones? My hubby gave them all to me…he either saw them at a yard sale or he was working on a job and was given a box of junk and one happened to be in it.

They all work using the bigger glue sticks…

They have the same size hole for the glue to come out, but it’s hard to sometimes reach into a small area without a big glob of glue coming out…

They have had a hard life… and have been used A LOT!

…but they each have some quirks…they take too long to heat up, they constantly ooze glue or they are just too stringy…

So when I got a 60% off coupon from Joann’s, I decided this glue gun might be something worthwhile to buy. (It was $12.99 regular price!) I had seen a video on making doll shoes using a fine point glue gun, and wanted to give it a try…I had never made tiny doll shoes using anything but tacky glue…

I liked it…the pull trigger was very nice and the longer point gave me just the right amount of control.

It gets hot and is called a high temp gun, but I never burned my fingers using it…the trigger makes it easy to put down one dot of glue at a time, which was JUST what I needed.

I like it very much…

I also bought a bottle of glue at Hobby Lobby with my 40% off coupon. It’s called Crafter’s Pick The Ultimate! and says it sticks like a glue gun…

I saw this on a doll shoe video too. I haven’t used it on a pair of finished doll shoes…but just tried it out to see how it worked with Ultrasuede…and it was great!! It was quick to grab and worked very well… and held tight when it was dry.

Okay, so back to the glue gun… These are the shoes I made using the glue gun…they are little brown Ultrasuede with black trim and bows.

They are about an inch long and so cute!

I was making them for Navi and tried them on her when she was still dressed in her thigh highs…they seemed to fit okay, but when I tried them on her this evening with just her bare feet, they were too big…so I took a look at Ten Ping and Navi’s feet side by side….

…and got Ten Ping off the shelf and tried them on her…

Viola!! Great fit…without socks…

So I was wondering how could I incorporate them into a Christmas dress set…

I looked through my fabrics and wondered about these…

…or I could just save them for some other time…hmmm…

Well, that’s my ramble for today…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I think I own two glue guns, one–which has a finer tip–is a low-temp one. I haven’t really used them in quite some time, though. I do like the trigger, as it gives you more control over how much glue is coming out.

I hadn’t seen that Crafter’s Pick glue before; I wonder how it compares to Alene’s? That’s what I use for many things.

Navi/Ten Ping’s shoes sure did come out cute! Gigi just noticed and is hoping you will make something in Ten Ping’s size next! (and…well, you know…she always wants pink! LOL) I told her that we will just have to be patient, and see what you will do.

I think those shoes would look good with most any “fall/winter” type fabrics, but I do like them with the dark-background print you showed.

    1. HI Charlotte,
Better get your glue gun out and do some kind of project! It’s fun to create something! :o)
I have always used Aleene’s glue too…the tacky kind, but I’m going to give this bottle a run for it’s money and really see how it compares… just the little I did use it for, I was very impressed…
I am debating about making something for Ten Ping…she’s been neglected as of late!
I’ll have to see on the shoes…and if I want to use them next or something else…

  2. Thanks for the tip on glue guns, Jeanne! I do have one, but Michael always gets me theseā€heavy dutyā€ ones that are more for men, in my opinion! They are kind of messy for when you want precisely glued things. That smaller one looks like it might be right up my alley!

Joy, your little Ardennes is so cute in her little Minnie Mouse dress! Did you make that?

Those teensy shoes are just adorable, too! I canā€™t even imagine making shoes so tiny and getting them to look like anything decent! I also think they would work well with the middle fabric. I think a doll with red or light hair would pull that off well.

So we will have another windy day here! Iā€™m trying to get the last leaves that are close to the house gathered up, but the wind is not helping! And today will be worse than yesterday!

    1. HI Linda,
I just got a 60% off coupon from Joann’s on my phone this morning… maybe you can check and see if you got one and have Michael pick up a “girly” gun for you this time! :o)

Yes, Joy made Ardyn’s dress…isn’t it cute?

I’ll have to decide on whether to use the shoes now or wait and use them some other time… I really need to do Christmas, DON’T I?

Super windy here too… the trees are just swaying and I’m praying they don’t break any limbs…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Arden certainly looks cute in her new dress. The piping around the collar and cuffs is a touch I always like. As far as glue guns, I couldnā€™t find mine last time I looked and will probably have to buy a new one if it doesnā€™t turn up. Since you like the way your new one is working, that gives me some idea of what to look for.

      1. Thanks Carolyn,
Joy always does a nice job on her doll clothes… I love those extra special touches too! :o)
Well, if you buy the glue gun, I hope you like it… I think I’m going to try it again today and see if I can get the hang of using it even more!
Thanks for liking the shoes… I love making them…
        Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Love the shoes. Cute. They seem to go with the middle fabric best. Beautiful fabric. Would be so sweet as a seasonal dress that could be used for fall or winter.
I have two of the smaller size glue guns. And I’ve never used them. I’m not a fan of hot glue as I usually get quite into my projects spreading glue with my fingers to get things nice and smooth. Ouch with one of those. šŸ™ But, I suppose I should at least try one sometime.
Thanks on Ardyn’s dress. As you might notice, no snaps on the back. Bad me. We were losing the light, and I wanted to get a photo for Minnie’s birthday. I’d planned on using tights for Ardyn, but at the last minute couldn’t locate them, so went with the socks. Not a good idea as they had lacy cuffs like the bottom of the dress. Not so sure I like that lace, but we’ll try it with tights first before I operate and remove it.
Picked up most of the stuff we need to make things for Thanksgiving yesterday. Heading to Trader Joe’s today to finish up. We are doing a very small family group outdoor event, unless it rains, get together. We’ll be checking temperatures too and not the turkey’s. Oh, guess we had better check that too. šŸ™‚
Leaves leaves everywhere, so we’ll be working on that. Have wonderful day.

    1. Hi Joy,
Ardyn’s dress is REALLY sweet, Joy! You nailed it perfectly and it looks great on her. I didn’t know it was Minnie Mouse’s birthday! You are the knower of all things trivial! :o)
I just got a 60% off coupon on my phone from Joann’s… just sayin… :o)
I picked up some Thanksgiving stuff here too yesterday… Tomorrow our governor is imposing new restrictions… not sure what they are yet, but we’ll see…
We have very strong winds here today… hope the trees stay upright!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Ardyn is adorable in her Minnie mouse dress. Joy always has her dollies dressed so sweetly. The piping around the collar and cuffs makes it look just like children’s clothing. I love that.
Really nice to hear about that glue gun. I have one, but one that makes it easy to have one drop at a time is perfect. I used to make a lot of stuff with my glue gun – need to get back to some of that this winter. I borrowed that Dolly’s dressmaker book from the library. It has shoe patterns that will be fun to do. A doll can’t have too many shoes. That glue looks nice as well. I always buy Alene’s and will love to hear how this compares before I would buy it.
The shoes are super cute and go perfectly with the dark middle fabric.
It super windy here today as well, but the sun is shining brightly. It is taking the last of the leaves off the tress and bushes.

    1. Hi Laura,
I love the piping on Ardyn’s dress too…piping never goes out of style…
I used my glue gun again today and the Crafters glue. I love both of them…
We had 40 mph winds today and the trees were really bending… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I have several glue guns of all sizes, but I really like the one you just bought. I ‘ve never been 100% satisfied with the ones I have. The small one never gets hot enough, one of them is stringy and another oozes glue while sitting. Yours sounds more easy to control.

Joy’s Ardyn is the cutest and I love her sweet little dress. Trentsation pattern? Looks like Lissy and Lolla’s favorite pattern – one of mine too. Love the piping. I made a dress for my Paola Reina yesterday. She said she was freezing in her summer capri set and, aside from her Easter dress, she hasn’t anything else to wear. So I got to it. I bought the fabric from the French Fashions site on e-bay. They have a lot of small scale prints and different kinds of fabrics. The fabric I used looks like mattress ticking but much lighter and smaller scale than anything like that I’ve found. It has pockets, cuffs and a collar that is made from a red fabric. Really cute dress, but I wish I had put piping around the waist. I love piping and the dress is designed so that a belt or sash would mess with the lines. Piping would have been perfect. I’ll keep that in mind for next time. It looks cute as it is, otherwise I’d take it apart and add the piping.

Still haven’t got into making shoes yet but I bought some wonderful soft leather-like fabric to do some. One of the places where I buy patterns for my Paola Reina dolls also makes doll shoes and this is what they use and they sell it too. When I get around to making some shoes with it, I’ll send a picture. There are several nice colors to choose from.

Of course I immediately decided the shoes went perfect with the brown fabric. For some reason I love browns. I was picking out fabric this morning to make a dress for one of my LDs. I found a brown I loved and an accent fabric to go with it. Then I looked at my two LDs and realized the dress on one is brown and the other one is wearing a dress that contained brown. Back to the drawing board. I chose a fabric with flowers in various shades of blue and a navy with white dots for an accent. I’ll save the brown for someone else.

    1. I’d love to see a pic of the ticking fabric dress. Sounds adorable. Yes, it is a Trentsation pattern. I forgot to add that. Bad me. I did change the collar though and added some at the back. I like a regular two piece collar rather than the one. It is a pattern for Big Stella, Connie Lowe. šŸ™‚

    2. Hi Barbara
I used my new glue gun today and was happy with it…it did ooze some glue but not much…if I was doing something where there a long pause between using it, I just unplugged it. I was very pleased with it…
This one gets hot enough to me. But again, I didn’t burn any fingers today …that’s nice!!

Great news on getting some sewing done…I’ve been busy today too! Isn’t it fun to sew??? :o)

I liked the brown the best too…but have actually decided to go a whole different direction!! You’ll see…
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings. Jeanne

  7. Those tiny shoes are totes adorbs! When you put them next to the Christmas fabrics they look green.

Joy, your Minnie Mouse pinafore is also super cute! ā™„ļøšŸ˜Š Now I need to look up trentsation patterns.

    1. Thanks for the nice compliment on the shoes…I was playing Cobbler Jeanne again today…
Marsha, at Trentsations, does have the sweetest patterns!
Thanks Julia… hope your Thanksgiving plans work out…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. The dress is darling, Joy. I bought a glue gun but havenā€™t used it yet. Silly. Nice glue gun tutorial.

    1. Thanks Susette,
I used this glue gun again today and I’m ready to pass on a couple of my other ones. I really do like this one. It was a relatively cheap one…I wonder what a more expensive one is like? I’m good with this one…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Hi Jeanne, I had one of those glue guns with the long nozzle which was great for small projects (at that time I was making flowers from ribbons, told you I was a Jill of all trades and master of none). Unfortunately when I went to use it one day the small nozzle had somehow come out, I never did find it, and the glue was coming out in blobs again. Even more unfortunately I don’t remember where I bought it and have never seen another one.
When I was over in the States on holiday last year I saw there were coupons everywhere. I wish that happened here! I do get a $10 birthday coupon from the two craft stores where I have a loyalty card and the really big Australian store, Spotlight, often has a $40 off coupon (or sometimes 40% off) that they send out on e mail to me but I have to spend $100 to get it on full priced items, not any on sale stuff and all the high priced items like sewing machines and Cricuts are excluded.
I am busy making stuff for the Christmas market that my friend is having next weekend. Last year I gave my grandchildren and a couple of my friends a microwave bowl cosy each. I put a bowl in each one and for the children I filled the bowl with chocolates and for the two friends I put in a packet of mixed nuts and fruit. I have made several for the ‘shop’ and Helen liked my idea and has promoted it to people coming in so there was only one left. I said I would make some more and one of the friends said she would like 3 and another friend thought it was a good idea so said she would like 3 as well. On Saturday the cake dec guild I belong to has an AGM and Christmas party and we take a gift to exchange. Yesterday I went to lunch at Delta and took 13 cosies for my friends to choose which ones they wanted. one who wanted 3 changed her mind and bought 6, the other friend took her 3, someone else saw them and bought one and someone else bought another. Out of 13 I have 1 left for the market next week lol.
I have a funny story that a friend shared on Thursday. She went to Auckland last week for a memorial for her sister and one of the guests (male) looked familiar but she couldn’t place him. Eventually they ended up at the buffet together and she decided to talk to him. She thanked him for coming and then apologised but she didn’t know his name. “I’m Bob” he said. It was her ex-husband.
