It’s beginning to look like Christmas…

I thought you might like to see the “sweet treat” I picked out to go with Maryellen’s new dress set. When I showed it to her, she smiled and approved.

Now it’s time to turn my attention to getting as many Christmas dresses made for my girls as I can!

I decided to switch from my biggest American Girl dolls to my tiniest little girl, Navi. She’s a mere 6 1/2″ and is a My Meadow Twinkles doll.

I finished her thigh highs and made a pair of Red Ultrasuede Christmas shoes to go with her new plaid dress I’m still working on…

I used a tiny little piece of Ultra Thin Velcro instead of having to button them…

Her dress is made from a metallic homespun plaid and is the perfect scale for her tiny body.

Her sleeves are the tiniest things I’ve ever put in…

I hope you enjoyed seeing a sneak preview of what’s to come…

I was emailed some pictures of dolls to share and will do that soon.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Woo, I’m first this morning, unless Charlotte is about to post her comment! That “extre” chocolate is enough incentive to bid on the dress! Yummy!

So little Navi is next up! I think she is saying to you, Jeanne, Mom, where ARE my panties?? I think this red plaid will be just the thing to get us jumping into the Christmas season, and Navi sure is hoping for the skirt to be finished soon!!

We gave up trying to clean the gutters from leaves! We are haivng gutter guards installed today, not a day too early! Leaves everywhere here, and even the man who will install them could not get over how they covered everything here. He had to take pictures to send to his friend who lives in Denver to show him!

    1. You will love the gutter guards! We had them put on our other house, and when the leaves come down from that huge silver maple, no worries anymore. 🙂 Wish we had them here as other person was up on the roof with the blower yesterday clearing the gutters of ash from the fires as well as leaves from miles away. We’re excited that there might actually be rain later this week. 🙂

    2. HI Linda,
I like those chocolates too! Maybe “I’ll” buy back the dress just to get them! :o)

It’s funny… about those panties… I had a pile of them right beside me that I could have put on her.. bad me!

I think Navi will look great in this little sparkly plaid… I might change her wig to the darker one… I think it might look better.

I hope you like your new gutters…I’ve always wondered about those kind…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. The tiny dress is exactly what will get us thinking about Christmas, alone though we may feel this year without more family gatherings. We may have to invite the dolls to share with us. Don’t know how you have the patience for those tiny shoes. Great job. Glad that fabric is truly squared on such a tiny doll.

    1. HI Susette,
It may the smallest Christmas dress I make this year, but it’s hopefully got lots of Joy and Cheer sewn into it!
We’re trying to figure out what we are doing for Thanksgiving, as far as having people over…
I’ll just stick with sewing for now… :o)
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Navi is adorable. I think her cheeks must be getting cold. No undies, no chair cushion, brrrr.

Going to sign papers today. We have progressed from things that needed changing when Mom passed, to preparing for the inevitable with Dad.

    1. HI Julia,
I can’t believe I didn’t notice she had no panties on… I had a container of pink and white panties sitting right on my sewing machine table… it had my shoe patterns and my pantie patterns in it… oops!
I feel for you going to do that paperwork… it’s hard…and I was only able to do it with my sisters here… too hard by myself…
      Thanks Julia,
      Blessings, Jeanne

You will be so thankful to have that all squared away while your dad is still able to participate and have a say. One thing I did with My dad–when mom’s dementia got worse and worse–was get a checking account set up (with their money but in my name) so I could purchase things she needed in her care home, and also it took (eventually) took care of both of their funeral expenses as well as flowers, some of the food at the receptions afterwards, remunerations for the pastor and organist, etc. So nice to have that read. And then daddy also signed power of attorney so my brother and I had very little rigamarole to go thru when he died (and mom was still alive but could no longer do anything); everything automatically went into Paul’s and my names. It’s tough, but you will be So Glad you did it!

  4. Oh, I do like the holiday checks on Navi. Can’t believe you were able to run elastic through the sleeve too. What size elastic? 1/8″ ? Those tiny thigh highs will help to keep her warm, but I agree with Julia that a pair of white undies/shorts are in order.

Good idea that Susette has, a holiday doll gathering. Maybe we should call it, decorating with dolls. Fun. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
Navi is ready for me to turn on some Christmas music… :o)
She’ll have on panties tomorrow… I was such a bad mommy!
Maybe we should submit pictures of tables set using our dolls… hmmm…?
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a pretty little dress this is going to be! And so tiny. Do Navi’s clothes fit the mini AG dolls or are the dolls shaped too differently to make it work? I love the fabric. There have been many Christmas dresses in red plaid in this house over the years. I think it’s time to make a few for the dolly girls. What a wonderful gift to send with Mary Ellen’s outfit! My absolute favorite candy. I bought a big bag of the mix awhile back. Every one of the pieces had melted. Never had that before.

Thanksgiving will be as usual this year for us. We have no family here and not much left anywhere else so it’s our two sons, our daughter-in-law and two grandkids. We celebrate at our youngest son’s house. They have an open concept that is great for entertaining. Last year was unusual. We went to our dil’s grandparent’s house and her brother, his wife and two kids were there. Wonderful company and great food and plenty of it. It was not just not doable this year because of the virus, but her grandfather was just diagnosed with cancer – again. He’s survived two types and now he has a third. He’s definitely a survivor but vulnerable, so we’re back to the usual this year. Christmas is the same. We go to our son and daughter-in-law’s. We’ve all had the virus.

Forget gutter guards, I’d just like it if we had gutters. The house was built in 1945 and they were never added. I’ve been wanting to get them put on, but can’t seem to get that moved up the to-do list. It will probably need to be done before we sell the house. I’m for doing it now, but my decision keeps getting overridden. A new driveway has moved to the top of the list. That’s become necessary. It was not done well from the beginning and over the 25 years we’ve lived here it’s deteriorated a lot. Hubby and sons will do the prep work since that’s kind of like the work David used to do and we have the equipment to do it – actually it was tennis courts and parking lots, but same principle. We’ll just have to have the concrete poured. I’ll be glad when it’s done. It will be easier to keep the garage clean.

    1. Goodness, Barbara, no gutters? What happens when it rains? Do you get water in the basement? I don’t think you could sell a house here with no gutters, since it would not be up to code, but that’s Missouri, not Texas.

      1. No basements, which is probably why they never put them on. My house is on peers about a foot off the ground. It’s got concrete trim along the bottom with screened air vents every now and then. Actually pretty nice looking and it keeps animals from moving in under the house. Not untypical here in Texas. Problem is that without the gutters the rain comes straight down off the roof. Especially in hard rains it can beat down plants along the house and often causes the ground to not be good for planting much of anything, probably causes fungus or something. We’ve tried everything to fix this, but without the gutters it’s kind of useless.

    2. HI Barbara,
I don’t have a mini AG doll, so I don’t know if Navi’s things fit them or not. Maybe someone on here knows.
I looked at cookies when I was shopping for a “treat” for this dress set and there was nothing in the right color… I wanted them to match Maryellen’s dress. I just hope it’s not a heat wave on Thursday when the listing ends and I have to ship it on Friday. You got me a little worried, so I checked the weather and it’s supposed to be a bit cooler, but that’s just around here… One thing about these candies, they are at least wrapped individually… if they melt, put them in the frig for a bit.
I guess I need to figure out what we are doing… I think my kids just want it to be them this year… I can make lots of the things a day ahead so I can enjoy the day with them…and enjoy their company! :o)
Oooooo…a new driveway will be nice! I bet you can’t wait… Gutter Guards can wait… but a new driveway… how fun will that be! We have gravel and I’d love to have some poured concrete someday… right after the “roof!”
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Jeanne, those shoes are so pretty, I don’t know how you can work on such a tiny scale. Navi is going to look just lovely in such a gorgeous fabric. I have asked about the ultra fine Velcro you have mentioned before but so far haven’t found any of our local places who sell it. I might look on line but that can get expensive when you add postage and I don’t know how it works in US but stores here seem to have a standard postage for small items! During lockdown I bought a packet of sewing machine needles from a local store which cost $9 for the needles and $8.50 for the postage! The actual cost wouldn’t have been more than the standard letter rate ($2) but of course they tell you it is Post and Packing if you complain!
Looking forward to seeing more dolly pictures.

    1. HI Anne,
I watched a new you tube video on making shoes and the lady suggested getting a tiny tipped glue gun and use it. I have always used Aleene’s Tacky Glue and think I might like using this glue gun. I found it at Joann’s and used a coupon for it… 50% off. yay!
I think I had to order my Ultra Thin Velcro, but I can’t remember where it came from… It’s nice but not as strong as the regular… I hope it works as I don’t really like those little buttons having to hold the strap over… it’s too easy for the Ultrasuede to tear.
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Yeah, on to Christmas dresses. i always enjoy what you make of those. Of course. I enjoy everything. Navi’s little red shoes are too cute, you have certainly mastered making tiny shoes. The red tartan plaid is the perfect choice to kick off the season I do see the metallic sparkle in it as well. Sparkle is so necessary at Christmas!
You’re starting so nice and early that there should be time for plenty of Christmas dresses.

    1. HI Laura,
I have looked at so many tutorials on making doll shoes… I really should be a pro at it, but I still want to learn more and make them better and better…
I just finished her dress and will show it tomorrow… now to get the rest of the pieces finished…
If I could make one dress a day or in 2 days. that would be nice, but I’m not sure I can keep that up… I’ll try! :o)
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. That is going to be a top 10 outfit. Honestly that little Navi is cute in whatever you make for her. The shoes are so freaky cute…you are getting better and better at them! The black trim is just the thing for those tiny shoes.
Can you share your source for that thin Velcro? It is on the little bras that are on the Little Darlings and is flat and not bulky.
I’m working on a dress for a 24” HP Madame Alexander..you will laugh if I send you a picture. You are definitely the inspiration for the style🥰 It’s a good thing she is almost done ( just her hair left to do) because I’m getting attached…she’s a Bennie Walker ,such a pretty doll.

    1. HI Kathie,
Navi is teeny tiny but I LOVE making things for her… she’s very fun to sew for…

I can’t remember where I ordered the Ultra Thin Velcro from, but I’ll try to find out.. I know it came in the mail, but I’ll have to do a little research… yes, it is on the Little Darling’s bralette’s.
Yes, do send me a picture of the doll you are working on.. I’ll show everyone else too…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. I’m guessing that dolls like Navi come with underclothes, but would it take much time to make panties or some variation to show just a little under her skirt? There is the elastic problem, which would be a nuisance, and because I don’t think you have much competition when you sew for the tiny dolls, it’s probably not an important selling point, but clearly it would make us, your blog followers, happy, and your pictures of her thigh-highs would be cuter.
The sun is out and the snow is melting.

    1. I was hoping you’d send some of your cooler weather our way, but if your snow is melting already, I guess it’s hopeless. I’ll just have to keep waiting.

    2. HI Marilyn,
I make Navi’s panties out of stretch lace and don’t have to worry about elastic… the lace is stretchy enough to get them up and on… :o)
Navi WILL have panties on tomorrow… I was not thinking about that when I took those pictures… I should have been though. :o(
I’m glad your snow is melting…it’s too early for “real” snow accumulation!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. I’ve been wanting to know your source for the thin Velcro. Every time I do a search I can only find narrow Velcro and I have tons of that. Still looking for the thin stuff.

      1. It is interesting that the Ultra thin Velcro seems as elusive in US as it is here. I did find some here on line but it seems to be an industrial product and I would have to by 25 metres of each tape. I don’t think I could use that much in another lifetime not just this one!

I don’t know what happened, Jeanne–your blog usually makes it to my inbox around 1a.m. Pacific time, last night it was after 3 a.m. when it showed up (at which time I was probably finishing a game or getting ready to head to bed), so I didn’t see it until just a little while ago! I hope–if it’s something you can control–that you will go back to having it post earlier. It’s 2:30 a.m. (PST) now, and the new one still isn’t in my inbox! Otherwise I wouldn’t probably see it until late at night–I don’t usually get on the computer until after 9 p.m. (PST), and by then everyone else is probably off their computers, and, unless they check back, no one will see those later posts!

My usual routine is to check the previous day’s blog, and read what everyone else has posted (occasionally replying) and then read the next day’s blog before I go to bed at night. It’s a nice way to end my day!

  12. Charlotte, I usually get the blog in my inbox at about 11pm NZ time and usually check it at about 6 or 7 am the next morning. I haven’t got one this morning at all. Is that because it is Thanksgiving? I have a feeling it is on the second Thursday in November but of course we don’t celebrate it here. It is a holiday weekend though, Friday is Show Day for Canterbury. Every province has an anniversary day but they are all different so the rest of the country is working tomorrow. Unfortunately there is no Agricultural Show this year, deemed too much at risk of being cancelled at the last minute. The big races went ahead on Tuesday though (Cup day). I heard a radio commentator say “Today is the day that hundreds of young women walk the streets in high heeled shoes and at 6 o’clock those same young women are walking the streets in bare feet carrying their shoes”. They certainly walk to the carpark carrying them or so I have heard lol.
