Some Saturday Socializing…

I thought you might like to know the stats on the 2 dresses I have listed on Ebay… I don’t know what happened, but I haven’t been able to add a counter at the bottom of my listings for several years. I think Ebay changed things up and the program I use to list my dresses won’t let me add one. I used to look at the counters on things ALL the time… it let me gauge how things were doing and gave me feedback as to which things were the most looked at. I also liked to look at other peoples things and see their counters… to check out my competition! :o)

Well, since I can’t add that counter at the bottom, I thought I’d just tell you… As of 10:00 Friday night the Beige dress has had 143 views and there are 16 watchers. The Blue dress has had 119 views and there are 17 watchers.

In other news… Cindy was feeling kind of puny the last day or two she was here… then Deb got it on the way home…and today it was my turn. I’ve been hit with the worst cold ever… so I’m turning the blog talk over to you all today… you are free to discuss whatever you like as I’ve taken a Theraflu and I’m heading to bed! See you Monday…hopefully all spry and ready to attack whatever’s next!

Blessings, Jeanne

So far, both dresses seem to be garnering quite a bit of interest, although so far beige is ahead by a bit. However, it also now has had a second bid! Of course, we all know that can change in a minute or two!!

I’m sorry to hear all three of you girls have come down with the “crud”. Not fun. Hope you are all feeling better really soon.

Here in the Seattle area it’s been raining to beat the band all evening. Rain is hard for me, on two counts–my sinuses rebel, leaving me with a sinus headache and such, and when it rains like this, I am suddenly 15 again and living thru what had to have been The Longest winter ever! We moved to Seattle Nov. 1960 from Upper Michigan. It was drizzling a bit as we drove thru the pass and into Seattle. And we did not see the sun again until the following May. I kid you not! It didn’t rain every day, we just didn’t see the sun. Our furniture was greatly delayed getting here, too, which didn’t help. We had a half inch of snow in mid December, which lasted one hour, and that was it for the entire winter! This is winter?! So….I’m not a fan of the rain. I guess I live in the wrong part of the country! LOL But I have to say, when it makes up its mind to cooperate, our summer weather can be really lovely, rarely getting above the mid 80s, plus most summer days a nice breeze from the ocean. And once in a while we’ll have a fairly decent winter, which means snow that lasts more than a day or two. While others moan and groan about the snow, I celebrate!

No sewing for me today–I’m playing at church Sunday so have been doing some extra practicing–but the other day I finally finished that pair of short overalls–three down, four to go, so maybe all 7 of my Little Darlings will have them by Next summer! LOL And last night I started making a blouse for myself! Yay!

  2. As long as it’s a cold, even a horrid one, it’s ok. If anyone here has had COVID19, you might review your symptoms for our education. A friend says you can get vasculitis as a result — the symptom that tells you that is numb hands. If that happens, call your doctor immediately. It’s a chronic but controllable, non-infectious but potentially fatal condition. That’s what put me in the hospice. Fast treatment is your best bet.

It’s a bit dark here, usually a sign of pollution from one of the fires in the state, which are gradually being brought under control. Sometimes it clears up a little later and we have the prettiest fall days. The leaves are starting to turn — I always wish spring and fall would last longer.

There’s a park a block away. A friend brings his wife and we walk there, a little farther each time. She’s recently retired and doesn’t like exercising to stay in shape, but walking in weather like this suits her fine and we’re all happy. The sidewalks are smooth and there is a huge mowed hill for winter sledding.

I love Charlotte’s description of a Seattle winter. We have snow quite often but usually not especially deep except for once a year, usually when we are ready for spring and suddenly we are all snowed in. I love the shallow snows when all the trees look lacy and the world looks like a Christmas card. For the big snows, we just stare in amazement and then go bake cookies and read. It’s exciting and peaceful at the same time.

Marilyn, I love almost any kind of snow! What can I say? I’m a January baby and grew up in the midwest! I like my seasons!!

      1. Me, too. I love seasons, though the year I had 2 short winters split by a trip to Japan and Hawaii was possibly the best.

  3. First thing comes to mind, “worst cold ever!” Could someone have brought along Covid to the family get together? I certainly hope not. Please watch your symptoms and call the doctor for a consultation.
    Take care.

  4. Oh Jeanne, I see your are under the weather! Just rest and take care of yourself. Have you had your flu shot yet? They say it is really important this year, with Covid-19 also going around.

Speaking of fall, it is my very favorite season, with spring a close second. They are much too fleeting, and we just don’t get enough of them! It is a beautiful fall day here, with the leaves turning and drifting downward. The mums are blooming and pumpkins are displayed everywhere now, along with Halloween decorations. It’s so nice to sit in the patio and look at nature all around, with the squirrels scampering and burying nuts. We even had two young deer walking around this yard! Fall seems to bring out the wildlife more than hot summer days. I guess they are glad also that things have cooled off.

I am getting my dolls ready for their Halloween display soon. I try to have them wear different costumes each year, as I’d to mix it up, so I am checking my pictures to see that I don’t duplicate them. It’s easy to forget what everyone was wearing, fo sure. Do any of you dress your dolls for Halloween?

Can’t wait to see your next pictures, Linda!

Actually my friend Marika and I each dress up one of our dolls (usually an AG) for Halloween and then take them to lunch with us! Not sure if we’ll do that this year–restaurants Are open, but she tends to be over cautious, so I will have to call her this week and see if she wants to try it.

We used to go to the bistro at AG place for lunch, and watch the little preschoolers do their mall trick-or-treating (and one time saw a very Large–and obviously not preschool age–dinosaur walking around!), with our dolls dressed up and sitting in treat seats. Maybe I can find some pictures to send to Jeanne this week. But they closed the Bistro, so we just go to a restaurant and take our dolls with us!

Dear Jeanne, oh my goodness, I hope you are getting some much needed rest today to fight off your cold.

I have not been around for a bit, as I have been working on some projects.

Thanks to all the Sofa Sisters for the kind words about my dolls. Last year, a string of 18-inch dolls showed up on my doorstep and asked to be taken in. Well, I couldn’t say “no.”

I read in the comments that some of the dolls were new to folks. I hope the mini videos I attached were helpful and allowed folks to get to know more about the dolls.

There are stuffed body 18-inch dolls like the American Girl. In my photo, Wish (StarPath) and Happy (Espari) are stuffed. Then there are hard body 18-inch dolls, in my photo, there is Laurel (Just Pretend).

I find that the hard body dolls can wear most of the stuffed body doll clothing but the reverse is not always true. The stuffed body dolls tend to be a tad chubbier.

Our Doll Club is meeting on Zoom tomorrow. I will be so happy to “see” folks. A member is doing a program on Schoenhut Dolls which were made here in PA.

Best wishes with the ebay sales and the drawing, Jeanne. Also, I will be praying for a swift recovery for you and your sisters.

Wishing all of the Sofa Sisters a lovely weekend.

  6. Oh, Jeanne, take care of yourself and Cindy and Deb, take care, too. My first thought was also was someone exposed to COVID before coming?
I was out early this morning for my exercise walk and then harvesting the last of the peppers. Soon, far too soon IMO, it will be time to put the garden to bed. I love the warm days of fall and Indian summer, but I love the real summertime.
To answer your question, Linda, no I don’t dress my dolls for Halloween. In all except one (1930’s) era that my dolls represent, Halloween wasn’t a children’s holiday. I guess Samantha could dress up for “harvest Home festival” as depicted in “Road to Avonlea”.
Anyway the only costume I have is the Wood Fairy AG made years ago. Felicity wears it on Mid-Summer’s Eve, the only time she steps out of her era. I’d like to have a couple more dolls be fairies at that time. Maybe by next year I’ll make a kitty cat costume for my time traveling doll to wear when she’s in the 1930’s.
Looking forward to seeing your display for the year. It’s always so cute.

  7. Laura, you know, I was just thinking, here you don’t dress your dolls since there wasn’t Halloween being celebrated during their times, but crazy me, I dressedCecile in a
Dorothy costume last year and it was so cute! I believe Felicity wore the AG mermaid costume, Josefina was a Celtic princess, and Kaya wore a sari! It certainly was fun to dress them completely out of their times and I will probably do it again! It’s the only time they step out of character!

  8. Take care Jeanne and look after that cold. I caught one a few days before I was due to fly to UK last year. It was so bad on the plane to Singapore that I had to ask the cabin crew for a mask. It was horrible wearing it but better than spreading it around everyone on the plane.
Thank you for the kind words about my entries. I don’t know how many entries are in the exhibition but there were 26 entries in the Challenge which is more than they have ever had before and only two prizes so the odds are really against me winning. Do you remember the proverb, a Jack of all trades but master of none? That’s me. I love to learn new things but eventually I find something else I like doing and learning and I may then move on to the next thing that catches my eye. Some things last, I have done Cake decorating for 30 yrs now and have always had a needle doing something. I have been in the patchwork and Quilting Guild for about 15 years now but there are so many techniques that I haven’t got ‘itchy feet’ yet. The dolls might take over soon though lol.
I plan to go to the exhibition today after Church and take some photos. Tuesday evening the light wasn’t very good and there were too many people and Wednesday morning I was on the front desk taking people’s money so no time for photos and today is my last chance. I will send some to you Jeanne. My Christmas quilt is very wavy and not hanging well and I was pretty disappointed but one of the ladies who did the hanging said it was probably the Velcro that we have to sew to the top so they can be hung on the special boards that we hire. She said it is very hard to stretch it sometimes. Fortunately that comes of when the exhibition is over then I roll it up and put it in a bag waiting for the next exhibition when I pull out what I have to see what I can use for the next exhibit. I might take a couple of pins with me to anchor it for my photos.
Take care and get well soon

  9. This has been so much fun to follow Jeanne😍
Not fun that you sisters have to share a cold. I just hope it is just a cold 😳😯
Take care, take vit c, lots of liquids…all those things we are told will help🙏🏻
    Don’t worry about us….just you.

  10. I’m going to comment on Coronavirus at Marilyn’s request. I made two round trips to Houston from Orange County in late October and again in December. I started coughing incessantly and had fever and sweats for weeks. I was tested for regular flu in mid-January before Covid was a known quantity. I was so weak that I rarely made it upstairs to bed. I think the only reason I was spared pneumonia was that I’d had had the vaccine. I started feeling better in March and remember the first and last times I went to Costco since Christmas was March 6th. My ex-husband has been doing the shopping for both of us. No point in exposing both of us. I only go out to the post office to mail masks that I’m making to send to my daughter-in-law. No stores except Joann’s when only a couple of cars are there during special early hours.

I did have an operation in July that may be connected since I had had a digestive issue for years and it got overwhelming. I didn’t suspect I had Coronavirus until three friends suggested it in April, saying they were afraid to scare me when they knew I wasn’t feeling well. I keep hearing about more symptoms I can relate to. It started out like a bad sinus cold. So everyone take this seriously and stay safe. Friends are calling off holidays with extended family.

On a happy note, I’m glad to see Beige taking off. Love both dresses 👗. Your pictures are great. Get well quickly!

  11. Get better, Jeanne! My Dad and I got flu shots this a.m.

It doesn’t look good for team blue. LOL! 😆 I might just go ahead and buy those cute shoes.😊
