Oh, you’re going to enjoy these costumes… and quilts!

Julie is still standing in the same spot as she was on Friday… poor thing! I’m sorry, but my weekend was too jam packed with a funeral, company, alterations for Rebecca, and I have a stack of pictures and notes that I am in charge of putting together in a farewell scrapbook for someone. (I have a deadline for it so I HAVE to get it finished!) I’m going to have to be bailed out today…by Linda, but I’m sure you won’t mind! Everyone always enjoys seeing what she has her dolls dressed in.

This is what Linda said about her girls…

It took forever to get them all dressed, find everything, figure out what each one was wearing, etc. etc. but now I’m finished!

I had gotten Betsy a Little Red Riding Hood costume, so thought I would go with children’s stories for the theme. As you can see, I have the 40’s dolls dressed in Wizard of Oz costumes, kind of making it up as I went along, since I don’t have every costume from the story. Molly is Dorothy, Ruthie is the Wicked Witch and Susan is Glinda the Good. I had Kaya’s dog, Tatlo, and thought he would be a good wolf, and he was! However, Betsy doesn’t seem to afraid with that little smile on her face!

Felicity is an angel, wearing an AG costume and Cecile is wearing her Mardi Gras outfit, which I never have her wear for Mardi Gras, so I thought we could use it for Halloween.

The modern are also out for candy, Scarlett wearing a mermaid costume, which is one of the first AG costumes, and Ivy is Super Girl! I also decorated Molly’s table for trick or treaters who might show up at her house!

Didn’t Linda do a great job of getting her girls dressed? (Everyone say Yeeeessss!)

I also received this email from Anne… you’ll enjoy this as well…

No 170 Post exhibition newsletter

These quilts and wall hangings are WONDERFUL and I know you’ll enjoy them as well. Don’t forget to look for Anne’s “Peace in the Country” quilt! Thanks for sharing this Anne.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Linda, as always, your displays are wonderful! I haven’t dressed any of my dolls up for Halloween yet–guess I’d better get a move on!! I still need to call my friend and see if she wants to go out for lunch with our dolls that day, as we so often do on Halloween.

Jeanne, was there some kind of link that Anne sent to see some quilts and wall hangings? If so, it didn’t come thru.

  2. Thank you Charlotte for the kind words, and Jeanne for showing the pictures. I do get a lot of enjoyment dressing the dolls, and you ladies are about the only ones who see them, so I am happy to share them with you! I look back at previous years pictures and try to change things up as much as I can so we don’t do the same old thing every year. With no visitors much anymore, things get kind of lonely, but the dolls are keeping Michael and me company! (Don’t tell Michael that!)

I too, am not getting a video, just some older blogs from last fall. Maybe somehting needs to be fixed?

    1. Linda The link Jeanne posted should take you to the Canterbury Patchwork and Quilting Guild Post Exhibition Newsletter. I didn’t know how to separate the photos of the quilts from the newsletter but they are there. The link worked perfectly for me. It isn’t a video

  3. Thanks, Linda, for dressing the dolls so cleverly for Halloween with even a storybook theme. It’s sure a big project. Everyone looks ready for the big night.

I hope we hear from Joy today, but hundreds of thousands of Californians will be without power today due to very strong winds, especially in Northern California where Joy lives. Hope all is we, Joy.

  4. Thank you so much Linda for dressing up the girls. I know it takes time, but it is so inspiring to see them and how they are displayed. Love the Oz theme. That angel costume that Felicity is wearing is lovely. My favorite. The table setting is so fun. Love seeing the kitchen setting with those great vintage pieces. Were you an interior decorator at some point? Amazing creativity.
Thanks Jeanne for sharing Anne’s newsletter with the quilt photos. Wow.
We had extreme winds last night around here in northern CA. Sniffing outside during the night for smoke because our humidity is about zero. So dry. But, this morning, other than a mess from leaves etc. it looks good. There was one fire of unknown origin during the night out of Healdsburg, but the firefighters got right on it and were able to contain it to just a few acres. Must have been a huge effort with the high winds. Thanks Susette for thinking of us. I can’t believe that our power did not go out. Amazing. And still no rain expected in the near future.
Hope you get your scrapbook done today Jeanne. 🙂

    1. Oh Joy, you make me blush! No, I wasn’t an interior decorator, but I have always been good in art and design, and was an art teacher in my younger days! It never leaves you! Art encompasses everything we do, if you think about it.

      1. I loved your display as well, Linda. I must show it to Ashley and Sam, I am keeping my eye out for some props to use as I know it is what Sam and Ashley both want to do. It is just that life is too busy at the moment for all of us. Our display won’t be up to your standard though. lovely

        1. Thank you Anne! I really don’t have a lot of props, mostly it is the dolls standing around! But they sure do cheer up the house when we are having a rainy, chilly day such as the one we are having today!

  5. Linda, I love your vignettes! I always enlarge to examine the details. Do you ever do scenes with your Madam Alexander dolls? I look them over, too.

I called an exterminator this morning. Since the temps dropped below freezing, we have had wasps coming in the house. I’m swatting a dozen every day. Sat evening I was stung on the back of my neck! Grrrr. We think the nest is under the deck. We had wasp spray that I used but it didn’t solve the problem. Time to call in the professionals.

  6. Good heavens, Julia, no, I don’t do anything with the MA dolls, except have them stand there and look pretty! I don’t have any props for them and aren’t planning on getting any. I have enough to do with my bigger dolls as it is, but thank you for asking!

Good heavens, wasps! Yes, good to have professionals to do the job!

  7. Yeeeessss! Linda did an amazing job. It must have taken hours! Everyone looks so ready to trick or treat. I love Halloween, but, with the exception of a few, my poor dolly children have no costumes. My Boneka Charlotte has a witch but I’ve been terribly lax in this area. It doesn’t look like I’m going to get my Halloween decorations up in my yard this year. Can’t seem to get any excitement going from the rest of the family to help and I’ve run out of time. Hopefully by this time next year my Hubby will have had his knee surgery and he’ll probably be dragging me out to do it.

The link to Anne’s things worked for me and I will be looking at them more closely this afternoon. Gotta clean the bathroom this morning. Not my favorite job but necessary.

Sounds like Julia does need an exterminator if they are under her deck. We have red wasp problems in the spring and summer. A couple years ago they kept coming in our house and we couldn’t figure out how or why. David had installed a vent for my new venthood and they were coming in through that before he could get the hood on. They were always in my sink and once I got a handful of some in a pot I was soaking. It had not rained in ages and they were coming in for the water. I had one that came in the house with me one day and I could not find it anywhere. A few days later I had the grandkids and my granddaughter is an amazing bug detector. She wasn’t in the house a half hour before she was telling me where to find it. Should have got her sooner so I wouldn’t have had to worry over it. Right now we have ground hornets. First time ever. We have the foam to kill the nest but we have to do it at night.

    1. Thank you Barbara! It actually took days to get it all fixed up, since I didn’t work on the dolls all day. I do them in sections, the 40’s girls, the modern girls, the two old fashioned girls, so that I can clean up as I go and don’t have everything out at the same time. It is a fun project and just getting compliments like I am getting today make it all worthwhile!

  8. As always, Linda, your scene are darling and have so many fun details to explore. Your Halloween sign made my laugh with the funny black kitty. I have black cats as well and I can say they are so loving and affectionate. One is a Bombay and he loves to “talk” and knows quite a few tricks. Whoever thinks black cats are scary or bad has never had one.
I even have a pin as a member of “The Black Cat Society” LOL
Your Wizard of Oz theme is so cute and Betsy makes the sweetest Little Red Riding Hood.
I also love Felicity as an angel, suits her perfectly and Cecile looks lovely in the Mardi Gras ballgown. Ivy’s up for adventure as Super Girl. I enjoyed seeing all the little extras you have on the tables. I also enlarged and checked out your MA dolls. Those are also so sweet.
Thanks for sharing the quilt information again, Anne. Your”Peace in the Country” really is my favorite. If someone said I could have one, artist unknown, , I would pick yours. Just beautiful.

So glad you are safe< Joy. Praying you get rain soon. We're having som now, wish I could bottle up some and send it your way.

    1. Thank you Laura that is so nice of you. My friend who sells some of my stuff in her little shop at home loved it as well. She only takes a couple of dollars per item that she sells for me so I gave it to her as a gift.

    2. You are welcome, Laura! I too, think black cats are sweet, since I had several. One had a white “locket” at her neck, but was all black everywhere else. I love cats and kittens!

Thank you for commenting on my dolls in their costumes. I do have the medieval princess costume, but did not get that on this year. I enjoy getting the dolls ready for trick or treating each year, and try to do different things. Oh gosh, you enlarge the pictures? Hope there aren’t any dust bunnies hidden in them! Do you see the Mary
Englebreit letters on the shelves? I have one for each of my grandchildren, with the letter of their first names.

  9. Forgot to mention Scarlett’s mermaid costume. I love that one as well. I do remember when those first came out. My daughter had the Medieval Princess and The Wood Fairy, but later sold both of those. I ended up buying another Wood fairy for myself. Wish I had the Princess one also now, but that was years before I had a collection

    *** Hi Paula,
Did you get my reply? I think we keep posting before of after the other, so I’m unsure if you’ve seen it yet? *smile*

  10. Thanks Joy your prayers worked. It started raining around 6pm and still hasn’t stopped (It is 7.30 am now). The dog might complain as I am not taking him out in this but otherwise I am very pleased. It has done the garden a lot of good. As I was trying to prepare the beds for planting a few vegetables I just had dry dust to work with! It will probably be fine again tomorrow, hope so anyway and I will be able to finish the planting, except for potatoes. I have to wait for them to sprout.
Jeanne I really appreciate that even when you are so very busy you still find something to post and I really appreciate all you girls that we still have a conversation even when Jeanne isn’t able to join in.
Hope the professionals sort your was problem out Julia. Saw on the news that one of your states has an Asian Hornet problem. I hope it never makes it here. When you see what some people try to bring into the country in spite of our regulations it makes you realise how important border control is!

  11. Oh Linda! You did an amazing job getting all your girls ready for Halloween! They are all just lovely and dressed so perfectly. Thank you for sending all the pictures. I was trying to pick a favorite…not sure why …because they are all so cute but I am partial to Little Red Riding Hood. I appreciate the time it took to do all that dressing…I have ONE to dress for doll club so I better get busy! Happy Dolly Halloween!

    1. Oh, thank you Kathie! You might think all this came together quickly, but I have been collecting for quite a few years, so it was more gradual than you would think. However, even now, I am amazed at what I have!

  12. I was concentrating on the dolls and nearly missed the black cat, Linda. The entire set is wonderful, and the cat and its letters add a special touch.
I have a Wonder Woman outfit that is cute but doesn’t close in back. Nellie is wearing it, but she can’t turn her back. The boots fit, and it has bracelets and a headdress. I need to find someone with an 18″ slimmer -than-AG doll and send it to them when I can walk and it’s safe to go out — next summer?
At the moment we have 10″ of snow, which is wonderful because it’s slowing the spread of our fires. My sister;s cabin and the beautiful Stanley Hotel may very well survive.
Joy now has my empathy as well as my sympathy, and I’m delighted that she also has power.
Anne, I just sent your newsletter to my sisters. Seeing your quilt “at a distance” (small sized) in the newsletter let me see how beautifully you managed the perspective. It’s a lovely quilt and a prizewinner in my book.
