Snowbound in the sewing room…

My hubby took the box for the “winner” of the giveaway to the Post Office today, so be watching your mailboxes if you participated a few days ago. Thanks again, everyone, for entering!

You won’t be able to tell much difference in the sewing room today. It’s probably going to look just like the pictures you saw yesterday, but if you were here in my sewing room with me, we’d be hugging and jumping up and down looking at the first coat of the color I picked for the wall… vanilla… well, not exactly… “Snowbound” to be exact… by Sherwin Williams. It’s the color we used in Rebecca’s room on her trim and the color I used in my kitchen and will use for my cabinets. I had half a gallon left from Rebecca’s room and decided to be “thrifty!” I’m glad I did, because I really like how clean and fresh it looks. The windows that face out to the back yard are south facing and lots of light comes in, so now when the sun shines, it’s really going to be bright in there. I’m going to love that!

I’m also going to paint the trim around my windows too. It’s kind of a beige color and the white will brighten it up too.

I sanded the area where we joined the paneling piece in by the window and painted that section with the “Pecan” paint I used for my walls.

I even took a little paint brush and used the left over flat ceiling paint from Rebecca’s room and touched up all the little nicks and scraps on my ceiling in there. That made it look 100% better!

You can see how that long 12 foot piece of trim goes all the way across the end of my room. My ceiling is slanted because my sewing room was a porch that was added onto this house. I’m so thrilled that things are going “pretty” quickly on this project… probably not to you, who want me back at my sewing machine, but I’m getting there.

I hope I didn’t show this before… Susette sent me a YouTube link of a woman dressing up in her promenade gown… you won’t believe how many layers there are… I’m sure glad I’m wearing sweat pants and flip flops right now!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Your room is coming along nicely, Jeanne! That newly painted wall does look so fresh and clean.

Thank you, everyone, for the prayers and kind thoughts. I’m still hurting, and today, when Ron was helping me with the lidocaine patch, he noticed a bruise on my lower back, just below my waistline, so I suppose that could be where I “landed”.

I’m still hurting quite a lot–my right hip feels like it has a catch in it–but today I was able to get caught up on the dishes, anyway. Of course, I had to sit down a couple of times during the process, but at least I got them done. Maybe tomorrow I’ll actually do a little simple cooking?!

    Hugs to all of you!

  2. At first I thought….what? Snow?? You don’t live all that far from me, and we sure didn’t have snow yesterday! It got up to 83 here! So, NOW I see it is the name of the paint!! Oh my, how everything looks so fresh and clean! I love it, what more can I say? Yes, it will be so cheery and bright during the day when you sew! Actually, you stay up waaaay longer than I do, Jeanne! When do you actually do the most of your sewing, day or night? I am good for nothing after 3 in the afternoon!

So glad I do not live in the times of dressing in all those layers of clothes! Very interesting, Susette!

Oh, Charlotte, I feel your pain! Just two days ago, I did something to my back, twisted a muscle or something, and had a miserable day Wednesday! Mostly I sat around trying to get comfortable. I’m fine now, but yes, it is not fun!

    1. Jeanne, sometimes I don’t see your comments until too late, and don’t comment about your answers again. I want to thank you for counting how many Plaid shirts
George has! 😄 Does he ever get rid of any of them? Michael just keeps adding shirts too, without getting rid of any! That’s a lot of shirts for you to wash and iron, if you iron them!

And I want to thank Cindy for explaining what chalk paint is. Very informative!

  3. Your room looks so pretty, Jeanne. I’m so glad that it’s coming along so nicely and then you’ll get your “new” drawers/desk in there and we’ll never see you again because you’ll be so busy enjoying that new, bright room and sewing up a storm…well, I know you’ll surface and come join us most days. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

    Blessings.

  4. I love “Snowbound.” Perfect color choice. Will you be painting the trim on the glass door too? Just so it will tie in with the wall? Something else to do eh? What about the window valance? Maybe a white lace something like that on the door? I can’t remember what you had there before. Can’t wait to see the top installed and your sewing machine back in it’s place. All of that light will be wonderful.
Looks like another good day to pull weeds if my fingers can take it. No gloves for those, only for the blackberry. 🙂
Looking forward to seeing the final look of your space. Oh, and Rebecca’s room too.

  5. Snow? What? Oh, it’s paint! It looks amazing, all bright and clean like new fallen snow.

Oh Charlotte, ouch ouch and more ouch! Glad it’s improving even tho slowly.

My mouth is stiff and sore today. I went to the dentist and all the novocaine was put in the hinge of my jaw. It’s stiff and opening WIDE didn’t help. That’s 1/3 of it done. Two more appointments to finish.

My tulips are popping up all over. This is the best tulip year we’ve had here in 25 years! 🌷

    1. Sorry about your dental work. Next time be sure to ask for a bite block. It’s inserted between your upper and lower jaws on the side that’s not being worked on so you can relax your jaws and won’t be as tense during the procedure nor sore afterwards.

  6. When I saw the title of today’s blog I too wondered if you’d had snow. So many places are getting snow late this year so it wouldn’t have surprised me. My sister in Delaware sent a picture on the first day of Spring last year showing snow on the tree in her front yard. She thought that was late. Your room is coming along beautifully. Can’t wait to see the corner with the new sewing station and machines all set up.

I hear you Charlotte. My knee has been sore for a month now after I tripped over my dog. I’m okay as long as I keep moving but if I sit for awhile it stiffens up again. I really need to see my chiropractor but I’m not sure he’s available yet. I’ve gone past his office a few times lately and it’s closed. He has another office but it’s not around here. He may be hanging out mostly there.

Susette, I didn’t know about the bite block. Fortunately I haven’t needed any serious dental work lately, but would have loved to know this in the past.

Joy, you never pull weeds here without gloves. Nothing to do with the weeds themselves but everything to do with the fire ants. I’ve pulled weeds and looked at my gloves and saw several of the little pests in time to keep them from crawling up my arm. Without the gloves I would have been in a world of hurt. I’m allergic to their bites.

Just had a nice but unexpected surprise. The grandkids just showed up. Hubby and son aren’t good at giving me a heads-up. But since I don’t see them at church and lunch on Sunday these days, I’ll take what I can get. They brought their skates but there is nowhere to skate in front of the house. No sidewalks and the driveway is the pits. Guess I’ll take them to the park pavilion this afternoon after schoolwork. It’s hot, but we’ll be in the shade. I’ve given up planning my days at the moment. Do have an outfit almost finished for Wellie Camille. Victorian underpinnings I’ve turned into a fun summer outfit.

  7. Your wall looks wonderful and the paint color is very nice, bright and cheery. It ought to be a joy working in such a pretty room.
Are you going to show more pictures of your room once it’s all back in place? You’ve added many pieces of furniture over the years and everything has its place and purpose!!
Wonderful work to both of you!

  8. I couldn’t believe the “Snow” either😉…glad it is just the paint color! Every little spot Looks new and fresh!
Good job the Queen and King of DYI!
Charlotte….Hope by tomorrow you are feeling better!
    Have a great weekend!

  9. Hi Jeanne
My workroom faces south too. Unfortunately that is not so much of an asset in the Southern hemisphere!! My workroom is behind the garage and the North wall looks on to next door’s fence. In retrospect I should have had a row of narrow windows high enough to catch the sun but not the fence, hindsight is wonderful. Still although it is cold in the winter it is cool in the summer.
What a lovely supportive husband you have, what a treasure!
Over here we have had 5 weeks of level 4 lockdown, 2 weeks at level 3 and on Thursday we moved to level 2 shops are open again yay. Not quite normal but nearly there. Couldn’t get a hair appointment for two weeks though! And couldn’t get the dog in for grooming till sometime next week either so we are both looking pretty shaggy

Dear Jeanne, you got me also with the title Snowbound. I thought you meant actual snow (chuckle). This has been such a strange May that I wouldn’t have been surprised.

I like the crisp white of the room. I know you will use pops of color and it will be lovely when you have finished.

I followed Susette’s link and saw the costume. The video was so informative. A second one popped up and I watched that one also. I am happy that I don’t have to wear all of those layers of clothing. If one gained any weight, all of the pieces would have to be changed.

  11. Jeanne, I love the paint color! Your room is looking so bright and nice! Would love a virtual “tour” when it’s all put together again!

    Vibes for continued healing, Charlotte.
