Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star… Navi’s never looked so sweet…

Who’s ready for some cuteness overload? ME!!! I had too much fun making this set for tiny little Navi, a Twinkles doll from My Meadow Dolls. She’s pint sized at only 6 1/2″ tall and lots of ladies think that’s too small to sew for, but I LOVE IT!! Sewing something for her usually goes together pretty quickly…as I’m pleased to show you!! :o)

We’ll start at the bottom and work our way up. I made these little rose colored shoes a while back but didn’t have anything to go with them…UNTIL Navi picked the rosy/pink fabric for her dress. They were a perfect match.

This was my first pair of tights for her and I made them the way Kathie showed us a while back for her Little Darlings…or maybe it was Bella… I loved making them and will do it this way from now on… Oh, that one area on her tights that looks like a black spot…it’s actually a hollow spot where her joint is…it’s just a shadow that looks like a black thread.

Here’s Navi’s dress… pretty simple, but simply sweet! It’s teeny tiny and sleeveless, but I’ve added some charm to it with lace at the hemline and pearls at the neckline. Sometimes the pearls look crooked and sometimes not. I’m going to take the pearls off and sew them on again… making them a bit curved, I think.

This lacy-like jacket was kind of an afterthought, but I asked Rebecca if she thought it would work and she said yes, so I went for it. (Seriously, it was like sewing for a troll doll again!) It’s just one piece with 2 holes cut out for the armholes. I’m really not sure how something so simple took me 2 hours to do… Well, I tried 4 times before I got it right… then I had to modify it and press it so the collar laid flat in the front and then I decided to add some buttons. I used fray check around the edges but it made the fabric sort of “swell” so the fibers got sort of fuzzy like. I decided to use a tiny zig zag around the edges just to keep it all in place. It’s really just a novelty piece, and not super professional, but I think it looks pretty sweet over the dress. (There is a little black speck on the collar showing up on my pictures… I’ll get rid of it…) Ugh.

Last up today is the bonnet. I bought this little Chinese doll hat years ago on the 100 mile yard sale and never knew which doll might get it. Well, Navi seemed like the perfect size and then when I got those vintage velvet Forget-Me-Knots from Kathie the other day, I decided I was going to use them on the hat FOR NAVI!. I hot glued them on and used a white silk ribbon to tie it all together under her chin.

Like I said at the beginning… I don’t think Navi has ever looked quite so sweet. AND… I’m not even finished yet… I still want to make her a tiny little half slip to go under her dress. That will be the finishing touch! Oh and then get pictures of her with her new tea set! She’ll have to invite some friends for tea, I guess.

Here’s one last picture… Sometimes when I lay my dolls down and they are looking straight up at my lights, I get the pretties pictures, clear and crisp… This was one of them.

Hope you like it…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Navi’s outfit is just darling, Jeanne!! I can tell you had a lot of fun with it. The dress itself is so sweet, with the lace trim and the pearls. Her shoes and tights are perfect with it. The hat is wonderful, too, and the little flowers are just the right color!! Serendipity!!

At first, I thought the collar of the lace jacket was deeper on her left side than her right, but when you had her lying down, with the jacket open, I can see that it really is not. It’s just the way it looks in some of the pictures. No problem!!

Can’t wait to see what’s next! I’m sure she can’t wait to have her tea party!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I DID have a good time making Navi’s set this time! I think it shows in this dress!!
I didnt get pictures taken today, so the tea party hopefully will happen!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a sweet little outfit for Navi, Jeanne! However, for a minute I thought something was amiss, since I thought Navi had red hair, and now I see you changed her wig, which I never knew she could! Those must be teensy wigs!

Oh, how darling that little polka dotted dress is, with the pearls marching along the front! Not too much, and not too little! For such a tiny dress, it is just perfect! I am one of those that would not bother to do such a perfect job for such a tiny doll! I have my limits, I guess.

The lace jacket is genius! Looking at it by itself, it doesn’t look like much, but when on Navi, it certainly does make the outfit look more complete. Great job on that!

The shoes are a good match, I agree. At first I thought the black on them was too jarring, but given that she has black hair, it evens it up.

Oh, so she doesn’t close her eyes when laying down? I guess you can’t do that with the AG dolls, for sure! I’ll be excited to see what you have in store tomorrow with the tea set, which is what brought this whole outfit together!

    1. Hi Linda,
Navi does use a teeny little wig. I’d like to find a pretty brown wig for her, but haven’t found the right one yet.
I felt the same way about that little jacket… wondering how could an oval piece of lace turn out to be so sweet?
No, her eyes don’t close when she lays down…her eyelashes are painted on too, instead of being 3-D. I just love her!
      Thanks Linda
      Blessings ,Jeanne

  3. You’ve outfitted Navi so sweetly, Jeanne. Many doll admirers will be swooning over such cuteness! and such a well-done ensemble. Your work is admirable, once again.

Trusting your hand is more than on the mend but working well for you these days. I would assume you’re mostly above freezing these days (we’re off an on freezing with slush and then unfreeze cycle). Do take care.

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you Becky,
I AM sewing okay, but my thumb is still bothering me…it hurts to wring out a dishrag, to use the sprayer at my sink, to open a jar, to hold a pen and write, blah, blah, blah… I’m wondering if maybe I have a bone spur or if maybe it’s arthritis. It hurts but it’s annoying too.
      Oh well. Enough whining!!
      Thank you Becky,
      Blessings ,Jeanne

  4. What a wonderful ensemble! I’m most admiring the tiny little jacket: Being able to see how the finished jacket would drape on the doll is a testament to your creativity and ability to carry out a design. Wow! It’s so simple but exacting in execution.

Regarding Saturday’s post: Thanks for the kind Comments on Chinese New Year pictures. The 12 little things at the bottom of one picture are Chinese Zodiac symbols: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Cat, etc. Do a search for them and you’ll learn what sign you were born under and the characteristics you’re most likely to exhibit. Compatible signs might be interesting, too. Many years ago fortune tellers were set up in department stores in Japan close to the holiday.

Looking forward to seeing Navi’s story in the listing. You know I love mini tea sets but don’t have one quite that small but remember one from childhood. Thanks for the memories everyone.

    1. Hi Susette,
I haven’t even taken the tea set out of the package but I’m curious to see it on s table next to her. I got out my tiny chair set from you and hope to find some teddy bear friends to attend her tea party!
      Thanks so much ,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. In the last photo, Navi appears overcome with the fashion shoot and all of her cuteness! 🙂
Love the outfit, and the hat with the vintage flowers brings back so many memories. Some little Meadow Twinkle will is dreaming of this one.
Thinking about the hat, but wonder if a woven place mat might be cut up to make hats in different sizes? Any possibility of using the one you have to make a pattern before you sell because the hat would be so cute on many head sizes?
    P.S. That jacket is genius.

    1. Hi Joy,
She WAS tired from all that trying on but I thought everyone might be tired of me using that line! :o)
I think I can figure out a way to make another hat like this… I’ll let you know what I come up with.
Thanks for liking my “Troll-ish” jacket…I liked it too…after trying for a couple hours. Several ended up in the trash…
      Thanks Joy
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I missed commenting on Saturday’s post so I just want to say that Joy’s Sylvia Scarlet is absolutely adorable. She will eventually figure out the bike thing I’m sure. Susette’s girls are really lovely all dressed up for Chinese New Year and I love the props in the pictures. It was wonderful hearing that Marilyn is improving some and that her caregivers had a lovely gift given to them. I always loved those Tower of Treats things. When my children were young we used to buy them every year at Christmastime. The lace was wonderful and I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Now onto today’s post. I have two mini AG dolls and they are sooooo small. I have patterns to make them some clothes but am still trying to wrap my mind around making something so small. You seem to do it with no problem. Even your tiny things look so polished. Navi looks totally adorable in her new outfit. What a clever hat! And the teeny, tiny shoes are so cute. And the little tights are really sweet. I love polka dots and have tons of polka dot fabric. Most of my dolls have something “polka dot” – dresses, tops, slacks and shorts. I just finished a romper outfit for Lolla. The main fabric is hot pink with red strawberries with white polka dots. The sleeve and leg cuffs are red fabric with white polka dots. She has a reversible vest with the red polka dot fabric on one side and a lime green solid on the other. The main fabric has some lime and medium green accents so I went with the lime green to bring them out. It actually gives her two looks when she reverses the vest. Yes I finally got back in my sewing room to sew rather than organize. I’ve done such a good job of tidying up I can actually walk all the way around my sewing machines, which are in the middle of the room, without having to move something out of the way. It’s amazing what you can do with some plastic boxes and floor dollies.

    1. Hi Barbara, once you get the hang of sewing for “the littles” you can do anything!! :o) At least you’ll think you can.
I’m quite the polka dot gal myself!! I love them!! Most of mine are black and white or navy and white.
Good for you for making it back in your sewing room! It feels great to be organized, doesn’t it?
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I finally got around to looking at Eden’s dress on e-bay. Really cute story. And thanks for showing how you did the skirt. I was wondering and was about to ask. Also you could call Navi’s little jacket “shabby chic”. Then it can be whatever it is with no questions.

  8. Navi’s outfit is very detailed.. so difficult with these tinies:) I love the fit of her tights! Perfection and not a wrinkle anywhere 💕
Congratulations on a design well done🌹🌹🌹

    1. Thank you Shara,
I am so glad I tried making these tights this way…thank you for your compliments…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, oh my goodness, Navi is adorable. I love polka dots on dolls. She is really working her dress. I love the color you selected and the shoes are so sweet.

I know we are only 27 days into the year but I vote for this dress as my favorite (chuckle).

    1. Hi Dorothy,
When you say “working that dress” I think I know which pose you are talking about. A little bit of attitude, right?
You always make me smile!! :o,)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. What a way to start the week! Navi is just too cute in that pink dress . The jacket is SO clever! Those tiny flowers work perfectly on her straw hat too. You said you were in the mood to decorate a hat 🙂 The way you can make those tiny shoes blows me away. I’d have glue from top to bottom on something that tiny. That was really fast!

    1. Thank you Kathie, for those sweet little flowers. They started and inspired this whole look!! Also your pictures showing how you made your tights from a sock inspired me to give that a try. It was probably quicker to make the tights than 2 thigh highs…
      Thank you,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Is it possible to list Kathie’s method for sewing the tights so we can find it in the Search field at the right side of the blog? Thanks, Susette

    1. Hi Susette,
I wanted to answer you…if you go to my search engine, just below the pictures at the right side bar…type in One Dollar and the post for making the tights will come up.
Since Navi was smaller in the waist than any socks would be, I just used a flat square of tights fabric….it was about a 4″ by 4″. I stretched the top edge slightly and added a piece of elastic about 3/8″ wide, pulling it just a bit as I zigzagged the elastic to the stretchy fabric.
That made the top of my tights…I put it around Navi’s waist and pinned where it should be sewn. I stitched all the way down the back using a stretch stitch. Then I sewed them together like Kathie did…
I might have to show a tutorial on this…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. What a sweet little dress set, and it came together so quickly. The hat is just darling and the flowers under the brim are one of my favorite styles. The polka dress is cute as can be and I love the lacy shawl. Navi is perfectly attired to host an afternoon tea.

    1. Thank you Laura,
I’m so glad you like tiny little Navi’s dress set.
      I really enjoyed making it!
      Blessings, Jeanne
