Some WARM clothes for my dolls…

PLEASE NOTE:
“Waiting for Christmas,” my dress for your dolls from the 40’s and 50’s ends Tuesday evening on Ebay. If you’d like to take a peek, you can see it by clicking the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE.

I also relisted “Christmas Sparkle” again, this time with a Buy It Now and free shipping. You can see if by clicking on that picture at the right side bar or click HERE.

I’m so glad you enjoyed the sock tutorial… I hope you understood everything. A few people asked what size socks I used, and I did go back in to my post and mention I used ladies socks… Barbara asked about thigh highs… you just extend them on up and do pretty much the same thing. I always add my elastic on the top of a width of stretch fabric and then cut that in two pieces when making thigh highs.

(Truth be told… I was cleaning house today! I absolutely HAD to…)

We were blessed with our first snowfall of the year. I say “blessed” with a bit of sarcasm… :o( I didn’t have nearly a long enough Fall season and now it’s turned to winter and is FREEZING out there. It REALLY is… it’s 21 degrees and the blowing wind gives us a wind chill factor of 12 degrees! That is WAY too cold for me!

At first we thought it was just going to be a light dusting of powdery snow…

Then we got a pelting of sleet and now it’s pretty slippery out there and with the temps the way they are, we’ll be icy for a little while.

I took this picture out my bathroom window, so you could see it on the cars. It’s not like we got 10 inches, but it’s enough that you have to be careful when you go out there…and dress warmly. I heard my hubby telling Reuben, “We’re gonna have to get your coat out buddy!” :o)

Since I was “occupied” today, I thought I’d show you some “warm weather” clothes I’ve made for my dolls in the past. I’ll try to find some fun pictures…

This is little 7 1/2″ Riley by Helen Kish, in her purple corduroy set…

11″ Bitty Bethany, by Helen Kish, is also wearing corduroy… but she’s wearing a dress!

The pictures of Bitty Bethany and Katie enlarge if you click on them.

This is 17″ Katie Effanbee dressed in her leopard corduroy pants and beret and a panne velvet swing top with boa trim! We both loved her in this set.

This is a similar set for Katie…

Molly is staying warm in her flannel pj’s.

Well, I hate to quit, but there must be ice on my satellite, because it’s taking forever to get my pictures to open up.

I hope this was enough to warm you up!

See you tomorrow… maybe the snow will melt… :o) Stay warm where you are!
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Guess there must be a posting delay, as mine said five something so that must account for no other comments.
So sorry for the early winter for those who have received cold and snow. The photos of warm cozy outfits will certainly lift the spirits for many I’m sure. And what a great time to clean house. Need you here Jeanne to inspire me.
Yesterday, we celebrated oldest grands birthday a couple of days early. No school with Veterans Day. No traffic driving down or back either. 🙂 And it was 80 so we were able to watch the grands and their scooter expertise.
Will be interesting to hear what your eye doctor has to say tomorrow. Hope everything is coming into perfect focus.

    1. Hi Joy,
It must have been internet troubles…as o was writing my post it kept saying no internet connection
It would come back on so I’d save what I had done. Apparently when I hit the publish button there was no internet connection.

Hence the delay…until I discovered it.

Super cold here…wind chill factors in the teens and tonight’s temps are supposed to be in the teens!!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oh, here you finally are, Jeanne! I looked for you earlier, but didn’t see anything. I figured maybe the weather was causing problems with your satellite. Boy, isn’t it cold? Bone chilling! It looks so pretty at first glance, but all those leaves sticking up under the snow don’t help! All the schools around here and not around here are closed today. As I look outside, it is so nice and sunny, but then -4 wind chill doesn’t warm me up at all!

I can’t get over how many darling outfits you have made, that I either don’t remember or haven’t seen! That last picture of Molly warmed me up!

    1. HI Linda,
Yes, I’m here… I thought everything was set to get published, but apparently my internet flickered off just at the moment when I pressed the publish button. I had no idea it hadn’t gone through until about 8:00 this morning… I was as much in the dark as everyone else.
I think the ice was covering my satellite and making it hard to get a signal through.

It is FREEZING out there isn’t it. Tonight it’s supposed to get down to 13 degrees and then I think tomorrow’s high is supposed to be 37. That might melt some of our ice…
All the schools around here were closed too…

I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures of my girls… I enjoy looking back and seeing my past creations too.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I can’t believe there are still outfits I haven’t seen, but you’ve done it again. I especially like the Effanbee with the feathers. When I was very much younger, I wore a black velvet long gown with feathers at the neckline. I joked that I’ve been accused of killing Muppets to get my clothing! I still have it but, of course, can’t get into it. That’s the kind of memories your blog sometimes bring back.

I’d been waiting for you to mention colors. Trust me, you can now believe your eyes which are no longer “Lyin’ Eyes” like in the song. No more veil of beige or yellow cloudiness. Stay warm and thanks for the pictures.

      1. HI Joy,
Do you have a picture of you in the cape with the feather trim? We’d like to see yours too!
        blessings, Jeanne

    1. Hi Susette,
It’s fun when I hear you talk about something that something I’ve shown brings back a memory. That makes my day! I’m glad you enjoyed seeing some new things!
Do you have any pictures of you in the dress with the feathers at the neckline? I’d love to see it.
Yes, the colors are really bright now and I’m still a bit unsure sometimes if things are black or navy or taupe or olive green… I’m sure I’ll get used to it.
I see my regular eye doctor tomorrow and can’t wait to see how my vision has improved.
      Thanks Susette!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I did finally get to Walmart and found the socks. I’d needed new socks for ages and they are perfect. I can’t wear ones with tight elastic bands at the top. I bought them but dolls will have to wait until I buy some more. They looked to be heavier than the ones you used but they are just the same. Thanks again for solving two problems.

    1. Hi Susette,
I have a pair of the black socks like I showed in my tutorial on right now! I like them very much too and they are very comfy! Glad you found them.
      Thanks, Jeanne

  5. I haven’t been out today or even checked my thermostat, but I did hear hubby saying there’s a nip in the air as he left for his shop. Yesterday at lunchtime it was 74. By dinnertime it was 46 and still dropping, 36 at bedtime. It was supposed to be 32 for a low and some frozen precip during the night. It’s supposed to be below freezing tonight. If the weather keeps coming from Siberia, this should be a cold winter for us. That usually brings the really cold weather all the way down. By the weekend though it should be in the 60s during the day and sunny. That’s the kind of weather I like.

I’ve been cleaning house too. Whenever I spend a lot of time sewing, everything else seems to be totally neglected. Can’t seem to find a balance for doing both. My sewing room could use a really good vacuuming too, especially after using the glitter organza for Lolla Rose’s pinafore.

I have Lolla Rose’s Christmas dress finished and will begin one today for Sophie. Then I will do one for my 18″ Gracie using the beautiful red slip I bought. If I have any time left I may do another. Not sure for who.

Hope all is well with your eye exam tomorrow. Stay warm.

    1. Thanks Barbara,
Good job on getting Lolla Rose’s Christmas dress finished! You’re doing great! Sophie is probably eager to see what you will make her.
As cold as it has been around here, it’s perfect weather for staying inside and sewing!

We got hit with a really cold blast the last few days and today and yesterday was brutal. It’s 14 degrees right now and bitterly cold out there. Did someone say SPRING?
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. We had our first snow last night as well, probably 2-3 inches. It came out of nowhere and then the temperature took a complete nosedive. There was also some ice, so it was quite slick when I went out with the trash this morning. We’re having 13 degrees in the morning. I also feel that there was no fall or much of August either. Didn’t get much time outside mid-August on and that doesn’t sit well with me. I’m already sick of it and it hasn’t even started. I would be happy for a return to summer tomorrow.
The outfits are adorable. Everyone looks warm and cozy. Molly is all ready for a long winter’s nap.

    1. HI Laura,
We are supposed to be at 13 degrees in the morning too….and I’m right there with you about not getting enough Fall time this season. I love corduroy and sweater weather and now it all has to be covered up with a winter coat. Waaa…. Waaa

I’m glad you enjoyed seeing some warmer fashions.. but (just between you and me) I’d rather be sewing spring dresses! :o)
      Thanks Laura… Stay warm!
      Blessings, Jeanne
