My one sleeved velvet dress…

The fabric I used originally must have been a little bit different than the one I chose to go ahead and use for this dress. It has given me fits… slippery like that silver dress I made Nyssa! At about 9:00 tonight, I was ready to start over on the whole dress, but I stuck with it and managed to get one sleeve in and the neck ruffle attached. Not much of a post, but it will have to do…

Oh, yea… I got the cough and cold my hubby and Rebecca had. I actually don’t feel too terrible tonight… I just can’t quit coughing…

Tomorrow will be my cooking day. I’m going to try and get as much done as I can for Thursday when my kids and my mom will be here. I actually had to cancel with Bithar and her family… There was no way I could have gotten a dinner ready for tomorrow or Friday. My kids are pretty forgiving, but company is another thing…

Anyway, here are the pictures from last night… (I hope you get a second laugh again, Linda!)

…and here are some progress pictures for tonight. I decided not to steer too far from my original version of the dress.

Thanks everyone. I’m doubtful I’ll get that second sleeve in tomorrow, but there’s always a chance… Stay tuned! :o)

Blessings to you all and Happy Early Thanksgiving if you are celebrating tomorrow!

That really is lovely fabric you chose for the sleeves–although I really did like that snowflake lace you used on your original version! (Of course, I love anything with snowflakes on it!)

I hope you feel much, much better tomorrow, Jeanne!!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I would loved to have found something with the snowflakes in it like my original dress, but I didn’t remember seeing anything that would have worked any better. So I decided the silver stars would be okay…
I do feel somewhat better…still coughing, but with cough drops and a water bottle nearby I’m managing.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Ha, ha, laughing again, Jeanne! Really though, I think this second version will be just as pretty as the first! I can tell you will get it done exactly the way it should be and it will be perfectly made to everyone’s expectations of you.

I can’t begin to think how stressed you must be if I were doing half of what you are doing! I am having just ONE extra person here for Thanksgiving dinner, and I am going nuts thinking of what I will have and when to start eash dish, and how will the turkey be, and when to put that in the oven, and what to wear, and is the bathroom cleaned and what tablecloth to put on the table, and on and on! It’s all a part of being a hostess, I guess!
After all is said and done, we are only human, and can only do so much!

You should see our yard this morning! Right now it is still dark, but the wind is howling and I can see leaves everywhere! And now another round of leaf raking, if and when the wind stops! We certainly are not putting up Christmas decorations outside with leaves everywhere, so I guess this weekend will be inside decorating!

    1. Hi Linda,
As I got ready to answer todays comments just now I scrolled past that picture of the dress pinned on Elizabeth and had a good laugh again! :o)

I don’t know if you saw it, but I did have to postpone our dinner with Bithar and her family. I realized it was too much. When she found out I was sick, she made the first move to say it was okay if they didn’t come over. Someone else had invited them for dinner.
I told her we could maybe get together before Christmas and have dinner together.

I got a few things done today and will pick up my mom tomorrow and just have her and our kids for our company. Low key lunch and nice visiting!!
Hope your dinner goes well Linda!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. This dress will be worth all the fabric frustration when it’s done, Jeanne. It’s already so pretty!
Hope your cold is a 24 hour thing and it’s gone by tomorrow. Stress lowers our resistance and makes us more susceptible to bugs.

We have a howling wind, too, Linda. Our wind is blowing around many inches of sn❄️w! Hubby is waiting for the snowplow to go through before going to work.

    1. Thank you Julia,
I appreciate your kind compliments on the dress so far. I was right…I didn’t get that other sleeve in, but maybe if everyone falls into turkey coma tomorrow afternoon, I’ll be able to sneak off to my sewing room and get it in…

I hope the snowy weather doesn’t affect your Thanksgiving plans. I’m not ready for snow yet!! You can have my portion this year…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The dress is coming right along! It’s going to be lovely. Those cute little puffy sleeves look great.the lace around the neckline is so feminine. It really is a classic style.
Try not to overdo . Hit the vitamin C bottle to help you through the cold. That and good ole Vick’s Formula 44 has gotten us through so many Cough/cold issues.
    Enjoy Thanksgiving with your family!

    1. Hi Kathie and thank you for the sweet compliments on the dress so far. Yes, the dress is a pretty classic style… I’m hoping to get that 2nd sleeve in before we meet next.

Thank you again for your pictures of Bella…I can’t tell you how many times I have looked at them… :o)
      Have a great day tomorrow!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Not going to say told you so, 🙂 but when the list of things to do gets so long, something has to go. This time it was you. Hoping you rally quickly and fight it off. I’m happy you will have just your family at home and if you’re not feeling well, order something and have someone pick it up. A quick zip in the microwave, and dinner is saved. 🙂
Can’t cut a break out here. Finally had rain and ended up as quite a lot. Plugged up our overflow drain, so garage took on some water. Will dry out quickly hopefully. Headed out this morning with the rake to survey the damage. Then, cooking time. Be thinking of you. Have a wonderful holiday.

    1. Hi Joy,
I thought enough time had passed and I wasn’t going to get sick, but Saturday evening I didn’t quite feel like myself and woke up Sunday morning with not much of a voice.

My hubby worked in town today so I did get a few things made ahead of time. Rebecca can help me in the morning to get everything else finished up. I’ll get my mom and bring her over and we’ll hopefully have a wonderful visit!! I hope your dinner is great too…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Kathie mentioned Vicks Formula 44. That’s what I was trying to remember to tell hubby when he had his bad cough. Always worked for me. David’s cough lasted forever. To the point we were thinking about a visit to the doctor.

This is the sweetest little dress and the finished product is going to be the best. As for the fabric. Well, I for one am ready to get back to making cotton outfits. Every outfit I’ve made lately has involved either some fragile fabric or slinky velour. The blessing is that it’s small enough to fit on my machine and not have “overflow”. The fabric remnants I’m using were from Christmas dresses I made for either my daughter or myself. I remember the fabric sliding all over and often hitting the floor. Grrr!!!! When using fancy fabric you really need to pack your patience. Something I have little of.

My daughter lives in Loveland, CO. She sent pictures yesterday of their 12.5″ of snow with 4″ more expected. It looked like a winter wonderland. Snow for Thanksgiving. Over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house we go. I wish.

Sorry about Joy’s water issues. Seems like she’s in the line of fire of every situation. I guess it keeps her on her toes. Cool here today and cooler tomorrow. Following two 80 degree days, I’m all for it. Linda D. was talking about leaf raking. We solved that issue with a mulching mower. No way my back could take leaf raking these days. And there are no longer children at home to jump in them.

Hope you are feeling better Jeanne. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

    1. I mow the leaves as well, Barbara. Takes a fraction of the time and avoids my mold allergies if they get wet.

    2. Hi Barbara,
Personally I’m so sick of cough drops I could scream…

I’m always happiest when sewing cottons… sounds like you are too!! I’m ready for some pretty Spring dress, how about you?

It sounds like the people in Colorado are having to stay put… Thanksgiving plans have probably all changed!
Thank Barbara and have a wonderful Thanksgiving yourself!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. That partial dress set up in the first picture is pretty funny Elizabeth looks like she isn’t sure what is going on. I can definitely see why Marilyn loved it. I do recall sheer white fabric and black velvet being a combination Sorry you’re not feeling well, Jeanne. It’s difficult being ill when a holiday is coming and trying to get everything finished. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. It was super windy here today, with gust of 50 mph. Took the final leaves off the trees and bushes.

    1. Hi Laura,
I’m glad you got a good laugh ot of that first picture too. I hope that one doesn’t get pinned on Pinerest without an explanation!! :o)

We had a windy day here too…when I took Reuben out I noticed there were a bunch of leaves that had blown into a big pile on our porch..
My hubby mulches the leaves too… we have an acre of land and we’d never get them all raked if we did them by hand.
I hope you have a nice day tomorrow!
      Blessings, Jeanne
