Yep… Little Darlings are the dolls for me…

When Lian saw the title for today’s post, she just smiled. I smiled right back!!
If you weren’t too impressed with my pictures of this blue dress up to now, I hope these will change your mind.

I think Lian tried especially hard to be a good model because she knew Callie Rose was laying in her box, waiting to find some new sisters somewhere else.

Most of the dress was already finished, but I needed to “spice” it up a little bit. Navy with white lace was too ordinary so I asked my hubby to help me find an accent color. I got out my bows and tried bow after bow after bow. My hubby liked the pink, but the pre-tied bows looked too bulky for such a delicate lace front. So I got out my silk ribbon and tied a few little bows to see which color he liked best…
This was the one he decided on and fortunately, I had little micro buttons that matched it too.

After the color pink was decided, it was pretty smooth sailing for the rest…

..a sweet little hair bow…

No hat this time as I only had these few scraps left…

I made a pair of white thigh highs…

…and a pretty white, with a layer of pink tulle half slip

Lian asked me if she looked like a ballerina in this pose? Again, I just smiled.

I have to sew the snaps on the back and this one will be ready to list on Ebay!!!

“Don’t forget about my ACCESSORY!” Lian shouted!

I won’t! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thank you Oksana!
I’m glad you like Lian’s dress! She does too!!
Thanks again for all your information about the Paola Reina dolls? Do you sell patterns for them?
      Blessings, Jeanne

Lian’s dress has come along beautifully! I wouldn’t have thought to put a pale pink with the blue/white (I would probably go with the more-expected red), but I like it. The print is so delicate, a bright color might have overpowered it.

What kind of fabric is that that you used in Lian’s thigh-highs? I really like it. If it’s heavy enough, it could even be a dolly sweater or top, with those cables and all. Paired with a pleated skirt and a little beret……

Hope you had a good Sunday, Jeanne!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I thought about red, but my hubby thought it was too country! I listened to him and went with the pink…
I use little girls tights for my thigh highs…I might show them tomorrow…
Most of the time the price is the same for a size 2 as it is for a 10/12….so get the bigger size…more thigh highs for your money!!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. I wondered if that might be what you would use. They’d be nice and stretchy, too, so would be fairly easy to fit and pull onto the doll.

        Thanks, Jeanne!

  2. Oh YES, that is the perfect dress for the perfect doll! The soft pink ribbon and tiny bows, with pink threading are just what the dress needed to balance the ruffled skirt! So pretty and kudos to George for picking out the color! I think he is picking up on what works best just because he lives with you!

Lian looks like the “real deal” to me, such a sweet little doll, that says “quality”, that I didn’t see in the Paola Reina doll. You can’t go wrong with LD dolls, and you certainly know how to dress them!!

    1. Hi Linda,
I read your comment to my hubby where you mentioned him. He just smiled!

Yes, you see it correctly tly. There really is no comparison in the quality of the Little Darlings vs the Paola Reina dolls. But the price difference is huge, so if you can’t purchase a Little Darling, the Paola Reina dolls are very affordable.
I DO love sewing for the Little Darlings and hope it shows.
      Thanks Linda

  3. She is very cute. I can see why she is your favorite. Perfect size and perfect shape with good shoulders.
Your sewing and fabric choices are exceptional

    1. Thank you for your very kind words, Rosemary! I am quite smitten with Lian and my other Little Darlings!
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Tell Lian she looks lovely modeling the new dress. Not much of a pink person here, probably would have gone with red or navy, but I really like it on Lian. She looks adorable. And with her slip and tights, she’s all set for the runway.
Traveling today and headed out. Hate getting up early.

    1. Hi Joy,
I’m not an early riser either…were you going to see your grands? Hope so.
Lian seems to like modeling the slips the best!
      Thank you Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Very sweet dress. Would love to see a pink hair bow with blue scrap flowers. So sorry about your Paola Reina disappointment. There is also a “booty” difference in the Paola dolls. I had splurged on two Paola dolls. One was Christy from a private eBay seller. She assured me she had blue eyes but when she arrived she had bright green eyes! However she did have the body I like better. Not worth the postage and problems to return thru eBay. I wish I could exchange the heads of my doll and yours, lol. It took me a while to figure out why the same clothes fit differently on the two dolls. So happy Oksana took the time to share the information on these dolls.
If your Callie doesn’t sell fast I may seriously consider her. Love the blue/gray eyes. It’s hard to make most colors look nice on the green eyes. But you probably understand that.
    Have a great day.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I wish Callie Rose would have worked out. Lots of ladies collect the Paola Reina dolls and it really would have been nice to sell dresses that fit both dolls..:o(
I have so many views on Callie that I can’t change things on my listing, but I wish I had better pictures of her face. It looks like I almost tok an orange marker and ran it over her nose. It doesn’t look that way in person. I used my camera for those outside pictures and the ones on my phone actually looked better. I wish I knew how to replace the pictures in my listing without disrupting the auction.
I’ve seen those green eyes…they are like some of the Felicity dolls I’ve seen….way bright!!
      Thanks Dorothy
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, being part of the Little Darling world, I love your blog heading this morning (smile).

Lian looks adorable in the dress. I love the touch of pink. It adds a bit of sweetness to the outfit.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I liked my title too…it said it all!!!
It looks very sweet in person too…wish you could see it up close…
      Thank you,
      Blessings ,Jeanne

  7. I’m partial to the Little Darlings myself. I only have two and hope to have more in the future. No matter what I make for them they always look extra special. I think it’s their “ballet” arms. They are one of the few dolls that you can push their arms back behind their skirts and it looks like they have their hands behind their back. Great for posing. Makes them look demure. And when you put their arms above their head, it looks like a ballet pose.

I think the dress turned out really cute. I love the pink accents and the hairbow is so sweet. I also would like to know about the fabric for the thigh highs. I made my H4H Dell a faux suede skirt and it’s short so I took an old pair of my trouser socks and made her some thigh highs. I wasn’t sure exactly how the pattern in the socks would turn out but I was pleased with the finished product. But I would really like to know what you used.

I think your Paola Reina is lovely and the sun kissed cheeks are definitely an added plus. If someone just wants a Paola Reina doll and is not worried about the arms they would be pleased with her. And her hair is scrumptious. Hopefully she will find a dolly forever home. I was tempted to take her in myself but hubby reminded me I cannot save every doll that’s looking for a home. And time is drawing closer to the final payment for my Meadow Lolla.

    1. Hi Barbara
Yes, the Little Darlings really are special to sew for and some ladies have lots- I knew one lady who had 17 and another who had over 3, if I remember correctly! How fun would that be to see them all dressed up!!!

Charlotte asked about the fabric I used for the thigh highs too. Maybe I’ll show what I use tomorrow….kids tights…

Thank you for your compliments on Callie and her sun kissed look. It’s not as orange as my pictures look. I really should have taken different pictures.
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Just adorable. I love the little ruffle at the bottom of Lian’s dress. It is perfect for twirling. The Little Darling are very sweet. Hope Callie Rose gets a good new home and don’t worry, you can name your next doll that name again. I renamed the Elizabeth I had briefly and my re-wigged Nellie went through three names before I settled on the perfect one.

    1. Hi Laura,
Sometimes naming your dolls is as hard as naming your kids. I’m glad you like Lian’s dress. It is very sweet on her and I like how it turned out.
      Thsnks Laura
      Blessings,Jeanne

  9. I missed Saturday’s post so I went back and looked at it, and you know what? The sweet little dress you made looks so much nicer on Lian. I think the LD dolls are just such perfect little models. I don’t blame you for selling Callie Rose. She just doesn’t have the body to do justice to your lovely outfits. You really do need good models for your creations.

    1. Thank you Carolyn
It took me trying out the Paola Reina dolls to find out they weren’t for me. Fortunately it wasn’t too costly of a try!
Thanks for your kind words about her dress.
      Blessings, Jeanne
