I found shoes for Callie Rose… my Paola Reina doll!!!

…and I didn’t even have to buy them! They were in my stash. They are some that I have for my Little Darlings and they work for both dolls. I guess I was very blessed to have that happen. I think I have 8 pair that will work. And I just remembered I think I have a pair of lace up black boots that might work. She can’t wear any tights with the shoes.. they JUST fit, but they’ll be fine, I think…

Lookie…

I’m so thrilled that I don’t have to fork out more money for shoes…

In other news… if you missed it in the comments yesterday, my hubby, my sweetheart of 38 years, came home and said he wanted to go somewhere for our Anniversary! It took me 30 minutes to get ready and we were on our way! I didn’t even know where we were going when I got in the car. If we turned out of driveway and went left, most likely we were going back to Cape Girardeau, MO. If we turned right, we were probably going to Paducah, KY. He turned right. And yes, we were heading to Paducah. It’s probably been at least a year since we had been there, but we love the town and always find fun things to do there.

We decided to go to a few stores that we like… One is called Top Quality Consignment. It just so happened that today was Senior Citizen Day and if you were 62 or older, (I am, he’s not), you got an extra 20% off. PLUS they had things in a back section that were buy one for a dollar, get one free… We spent a whopping $5.30! The way I see it, we were saving $$ for the next stop!

It was a Salvation Army Thrift store… We spent a whopping $6.49 there!

We drove down by the Ohio River to see the water through the floodwalls. Robert Dafford painted life size murals of Paducah’s history and they are amazing to see in person. Being life size, as you stand in front of them, it’s almost as if you could walk into the picture. As we drove by, I snapped a few pictures. If you Google him you can see more than 50 of his paintings in a slide show. They are absolutely incredible in person…and very beautiful when you see then all down the street.

If you are on a desktop or laptop, you should click on the pictures and look at the details in them…

My pictures aren’t great at all… I should have stopped and gotten out to take a few pictures…

We ate dinner at The Olive Garden and then on the way home stopped at the Dairy Queen. I loved my day with my sweetheart of 38 years and cherish any day I have with him!

This isn’t the best picture of both of us, but it was taken a few years ago at a hayride. The color is off because we had a bright light shining above our heads… But I LOVE his smile in this picture!

One more thing… Joy sent me a picture of her sweet 16″ Mae, (or Sophie Mae) as she calls her, in a dress she made to go along with the Sew Along that we just had. It’s kind of the same, only a sweet little bubble dress. I didn’t want you to miss it. Stella looks absolutely adorable in it! She’s a My Meadow Doll and created by the same artist, Miroslava, as my Bailey and tiny Navi.

Thanks Joy! That gives us our first Awwww… of the day!

See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, hooray for shoes–and not having to buy more (unless you want to show some with socks, of course….)

Thanks for all the pictures; it sounds like you had a wonderful anniversary! How fun, to go thrift-store shopping, then a nice drive to see some sights, and ending with dinner out!!

Oh, my goodness, Joy’s Sophie Mae is just the cutest little girl!! Such an expressive face, and a cute wig, too. I love the dress you made for her, Joy–and I would say that Sophie Mae loves it, too!! I’ll bet she’s already sorting thru your fabrics, choosing the next combination!! 😉

  2. First, Happy Anniversary, a bit late, to both of you! It certainly goes to show that you don’t have to spend an arm and leg to celebrate 38 wonderful years together! It’s WHO you celebrate with! You two were just made for each other, which is all I can say!!

Oh, yes, the shoes! I know, those teensy, tiny shoes are way too expensive for what they are! It seems the tinier they are, the more expensive they get! So happy you found that you have shoes that Callie Rose can wear! I think she is getting anxious to see what you have coming up for her to wear!

Joy’s Sophie Mae is adorable! Such a cute little expression and what an adorable outfit! You did a wonderful job on that, Joy!

  3. Happy Anniversary and many more! I have to comment because my great-great grandmother was married in Paducah, KY. according to her bible, so I assume she lived there. I will definitely look up the slide show of the murals.
A note about the hurricane we just went through. We live on a salt river in the GA coast, S. of Savannah. We were all prepared, house boarded up with help from kind neighbors, and every thing movable outside stored, generator primed, etc. But because of the western curve of our coast, (check a map to see it) called the GA bight, old Dorian was far enough out that he just gave us a distant wave and went on by. We are blessed.

    1. I was thinking of you and Dorian and relieved you are safe.
How interesting your great grands were in Paducah. Mine were in Kentucky somewhere too, but we don’t know exactly where. Wish we did. They settled in southern Indiana.

    2. HI Sissy,
How fun to know that your great grandmother was married in Paducah. It really is a wonderful place to visit and we used to go there quite often. Now we’ve started going to Cape Girardeau, MO more, but Paducah has a lot of fun places that we visit.
I have walked along those murals reading what was written for each one and it’s very interesting.
I hope you do look it up and enjoy it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I wrote you two days ago (? ). It was when you showed us your new doll. I was so excited for you. I’m hoping you get this text this time. That text and the following day’s text disappeared? Weird.
Anyway, you did a wonderful job on enhancing your new doll’s face. Hopefully her bangs will retrain themselves too. I’m glad you are happy with her. A new doll addition is always exciting. And the shoes!!! I guess you are all set to make her a new outfit. In the text I loss, I told you I bet your new doll is thrilled to be in your house!!!

Happy anniversary to you and George!! I’m happy you two had a wonderful day together sharing what you like to do. Such sweethearts!!
And it was nice to see Joy’s doll Mae in her Sew A-long outfit. Love the material and the little bear on the tricycle is so cute.

  5. Glad you had such a Happy Anniversary! You two were truly made for each other. I think I’d have jumped out of the car to get a closer look at the murals, legends beneath them and the brushstrokes. What a wonderful addition to the community and the whole state.

Thanks, Joy, for sending the pictures of the darling doll. How cute that she is as she looks up at one. How about that trike and teddy bear! You have a wonderful collection. Jeanne was lucky on the shoe fit and your dolls, too.

  6. Congrats on your anniversary. Sounds like a fantastic day. A little shopping and treats. Can’t ask for more. Like Sissi, my great greats were in Kentucky. Seeing the flood wall photos of the chopped trees and flat bottom boats brings to life what my relatives experienced. My group ended up in southern Indiana before heading to Illinois. We have no idea exactly where in Kentucky they lived. It’s my lost branch.
So happy to hear that LD shoes do fit. Maybe very thin rights might fit too. I rarely put on socks anymore, bad mom, because just getting on the shoes is a great effort. They don’t seem to mind at all.
I’ll bet you might be able to have that wonderful photo of you and George enhanced/darkened professionally and have a portrait for your great grandchildren some day. It is wonderful.
Sophie Mae says thank you for putting her in lights. She is famous now. 🙂

    1. I did a little editing job on my phone which may have helped a bit and sent it to Jeanne. It’s a wonderful picture.

Dear Jeanne, what a wonderful time you had! Your husband is such a sweetie to plan a special day that he knew you would love. That is a darling photo of the two of you.

Joy’s girl is adorable. The dress is so cute.

I know what you mean about finding doll shoes that fit. It is cause for celebration.

  8. Congratulations to you and George on your 38th. David and I will have our 40th on January 19, so we’re not too far ahead of you. Looks like a really fun day for you and the murals are absolutely gorgeous. I’m going to check out the slide show. Great picture of you and George! And I love the Olive Garden. They closed the one in Houston we used to go to and the new one they built closer to us is nearly impossible to get into. Once a year, if I can make it, the women I used to work with have a Christmas luncheon at an Olive Garden. Not terribly convenient to me, but I do try to make it when I can. One of the few chances I have to eat at an Olive Garden.

Joy, what a beautiful little girl you have there. Sophie Mae is so adorable and her new outfit is the cutest. Is she one of the 18″ Meadows?

Regarding ancestry, I rejoined Ancestry.com recently and have been receiving a lot of pictures of family members from the early 1900s. I belonged before but wasn’t getting anywhere and it is expensive. My family seems to have come to PA from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England and stayed there for the most part. Several generations in the cemetery near Bloomsburg. My grandparents moved to Wilmington, DE, for work in the early 1950s, but both of them are buried in PA in a town called Espy. Can’t remember where in PA Dorothy in PA and the World lives. I hope she sees this and reminds me. This time I’ll write it down.

As for the shoes, Jeanne you are truly blessed to find some that fit – and in so many styles and colors. Since the LDs take a 50mm slim and the Paola Reina/Les Cheries girls take 54 mm (per Judy at Jujus), I never even thought of trying the LD shoes on the others. Betsy takes a 50 regular so I imagine her shoes will fit my LDs but I’m not sure vice versa. Got to try all that out. Would sure make their shoe wardrobes larger for them all, especially for boots. Those can really cost a bunch so I usually buy neutral colors in those but sure would love to justify buying more colors. If the shoes/boots fit, buy them in every color seems to works for my dolls too. I love shoes!

As for tights, well I’ve had some problem with the ones made for the Paola Reina and Les Cheries dolls. I ended up giving a pair I bought for them to my LDs. Their “skin” has a texture that makes it difficult to slide anything tight up their legs. In another language the word for tights is “stickies”. I can tell you that with those two dolls it’s not a misnomer.

I am so glad to hear Sissy and her family are safe and Dorian is finally moving on. We have a friend in Myrtle Beach. She sent an e-mail showing how the water nearly reached her doorstep. Glad it’s on its way out to sea.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, hello my PA friend.
      I am in Central PA.
Are you on the Little Darling ning site? If so, I can send you a direct email through the site.
If not, I can ask Jeanne to give you my regular email address.
I would love to share PA information.

      1. Dear Dorothy,

I looked up where Central is. Sometimes I forget Pittsburg is as far west as it is so now I have a better perspective. I’m on a couple Little Darling sites but Jeanne can send it to me. Considering that it’s in the 100s again here, I need to do some PA living vicariously.

  9. What a sweet picture of you two. Glad you had a wonderful anniversary. The murals are wonderful. The one of the riverboat reminds me of the trip we took on the Delta Queen many years ago. I felt like Southern Belle coming down the staircase and the calliope music was beautiful. I’ve never been on an ocean cruise, but I think I prefer steamboats. I love the paddle wheel going round and round. I think living on a steamboat like in “Show Boat” or a houseboat with a paddlewheel would be ideal.
How wonderful that you have so many cute shoes. I really like the little brown ones.
Joy’s doll is so cute. I absolutely love the dress fabric. Hedgehogs are one of my favorite animals.. As I’m typing this I glanced out the window and my sweet, little sparrow has just tucked himself into the fan bunting for the night. I’ll have to put up a roosting pocket or something else before I take it down as I usually did after September 11th. If he doesn’t take to the other option the bunting will stay up. I’ll add some polartec to the space.

Sissy, so glad to hear you are safe. We went to Savannah on the way to Fort Myers as it’s off of I-(% I would have rather stayed there, but we had free condo space in Fort Myers from a friend’s timeshare. Sanibel Island was nice though.

  10. Hi, can you tell me what size these shoes are and where you got them? What doll do they fit besides Paola? I’m trying to find shoes too and I see that her shoes are about 5.5cm long or 2.16 inches. Thanks!

    1. Hi Jo,
I really don’t know what size they are… they were just some I used for my 13″ Dianna Effner Little DDsrlings.i tried them on and they fit. I can’t remember where I got them either…sorry,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. OK so you use them for Little Darlings and they also fit Paola? I guess that would mean that shoes advertised for Little Darlings would fit Paola. It’s just that I’ve seen pics of Effner’s foot in some of the shoe ads on Ebay and Little Darling’s foot measures a little over 1.5″ and ads for Paola shoes say the shoes are 5.5cm or 2.16″. Are those shoes big on your Little Darlings but less so on the Paola doll? Thanks for your help
        ! Jo
