Do you like “searching” for things? Just a fun post…

OKAY…who saw it? Saw what? The fly? What fly? The fly on Rebecca’s dress! Ali spotted it first and sent me a nice email letting me know about it, then Susette sent me an email… just to make sure I had seen it…

What fly?

This fly! This icky icky fly… (if you have to, click on this picture and you’ll see the culprit!)

I never saw him till these ladies pointed him out… makes me shudder! I looked at all my other pictures I had taken and this was the only one he was in… I’m glad of that! :o)

A friend loaned me this book for a while and I thought I’d share it with you. It is SO interesting how items can be turned into something you would never suspect it could be. This book, called Look-Alikes, by Joan Steiner is incredible… When you first look at the pictures you think, “oh, that’s a nice boat scene, or that’s a big city picture, but upon closer inspection, you see things aren’t what they appear to be. There are toenail clippers and razors used for vacuums, crackers used for siding, a grenade used for a stove, bathtub stoppers used for lights, etc. I thought you might like to see a few of the pictures and then I’ve given the list of “look-alikes” below each picture so you can search and see how many you can find. If you like the I Spy books, you’ll love this one!

I thought my pictures would zoom really large if you clicked on them, but they are just average on my computer… Maybe you can zoom them in with your mouse… OR…just buy the book on Ebay… I found 88 listings … just type in Look Alikes book Steiner and pick your favorite. They REALLY are fun to sit and study! :o) The lowest priced one I found was $3.68 with free shipping… how can you go wrong?

These are the look-alikes in the picture:

I love these…

…and a few more…QUITE a few more…

…some look alikes on this page…

This was just for fun… I’ll get back to sewing tomorrow…

No, I didn’t see the fly, Jeanne–not until I clicked on the picture and enlarged it! Before that, it just looked like a blurry gray spot!! Sharp eyes, Ali and Susette!!

What fun, those look-alike pictures/book! I remember years ago, someone–I think Games magazine?–used to include a picture like that now and then. I always found them fascinating! How fun, to find a whole book of them!! Thanks for sharing. (And, yes, I changed the zoom on my computer monitor to 150% and that showed quite a bit of detail for me.)

Update on Rurik’s blanket–the binding is on, and I am doing the hand stitching, so it shouldn’t be too long before I’ll have pictures to share!

  2. I certainly was surprised to see that fly, but only when it was mentioned. I was scrolling down too fast, I guess! Good eyes, Ali and Susette! I guess that is something to look out for when you take pictures outside!

Wow, that book is amazing! To think that someone put all that together is mind boggling!

Hope you didn’t get washed out this past weekend! What a wet one!

  3. Nope, didn’t see it. Actually glad I did not. 🙂 You may have to continue adding a “something” to your photos to keep us all searching. Ha ha.
The book is in a way like the “I Spy” books that the kids love so much. This one appears to be much more for miniaturists. Fun.
Saw the sneak preview of granddaughters dance performance. This year the part for the six year olds was the father daughter dance and not what you might think. All these dads on stage doing motions to music and lifts of the daughters. Had no idea son in law could dance so well. Can’t wait to see the video. 🙂

    1. My daughter and son both danced all through elementary, middle and high school. My daughter was in the musical theater program in college but graduated with a straight theater degree, and my son did a lot of musical theater work after high school. Surprisingly neither of them followed a dancing path. My daughter is the Executive Director of Mirror Image Arts in Denver. It is a non-profit organization tasked with bullying prevention using dramatic arts. My son works in air conditioning and loves it. But it was definitely not money wasted along the way. It kept them off the streets and brought them and us a lot of joy. Can’t ask for more than that.

  4. How funny. A photobombing fly. No, I did not see it. I didn’t enlarge the picture before, and now I sure won’t. The dress is still lovely.

I love things like the look-alike book. My grandson would too. Think I’ll buy one. We could have a lot of fun with it.

  5. I spy,
    With my little eye,
    A fly?
That fly was a master of hiding in plain sight! I never noticed anything off. Once it was pointed out, oh, there it is. I did not enlarge the picture. 😝
All my previous lime green suggestions were offered tongue in cheek! I was not serious. It just struck me that while not at all suitable, lime green pantalettes were hilarious! To me, anyway. 😂😆💚
We put up our tent for a trial run this past weekend. It is so nice and tall! When old people walk around hunched over, they have a hard time straightening up later. As a family, we started out with husband’s little dome tent. 2 adults could stretch out and when he was small, Son had a triangle of space! When he outgrew that we had get something bigger. Now with just the 2 of us, we have more room than ever!

  6. I too missed the fly. How nice of your sharper-eyed readers to point it out before it showed up on Ebay.
This book is very funny and lots of fun. I especially liked the vacuum cleaners. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Those books are amazing Jeanne, I’d never seen anything like that. Truthfully, they would drive me nuts, LOL. My eye tends to spot all the stuff that doesn’t belong in so many other things, which makes me a bit crazy, that it’s not something I’d do for fun, LOL! Very cool, though, and amazing what is in the imagination of others!!

Julia, congrats on your new tent! I had four boys and just loved camping with them. I’d go to this amazing local campground often and it seemed we were always taking a neighbor or friend along on our weekend trips, so the tent I bought many many years ago now, was huge. Two rooms with a screened porch. It was a name brand and crazy expensive, but I knew we’d get lots of use and enjoyment from it. The test run in the yard the first time went great. We set up at the campsite and that afternoon, in comes a heavy long lasting and wicked thunder storm! We all piled into the tent, with plenty of space, but low and behold, it had not been waterproofed!! Every seam in it was leaking like a sieve!! I got it home, dried out and I think I used four tubes of tent waterproofing stuff, and got every single seam in that thing. After that we had no problems or leaks! It stilll irritates me that with what that name brand tent cost, it wasn’t already waterproofed. So, double check your seams!! It will make things go so much smoother. : ) Love and hugs, Ali

  8. I debated whether to mention it or not but didn’t want to let it go as it’s one of the challenges of shooting pictures outdoors. Now if it had been a butterfly . . .

Those pictures from the book are really something. I think I even see a hand grenade made into a potbellied stove! And a Hoover nail clipper? Hope this doesn’t make me reluctant to throw things out!
