Presto Chango… the Civil War dress now has undersleeves

Okay, I have some instructions for you from Sarah, my webmaster and hopefully this will begin to take care of the missing posts, the late posts, the posts arriving 2 times a day, etc. I won’t go into all the technical stuff but there was a conflict between the program I use to write my blog and the program that I use to send out the emails to everyone to receive my posts.

Sarah disabled the WordPress program and I’m only going to use the Mailchimp one. What she said for everyone to do was to use the form on the right side of my blog…it NOW says “SUBSCRIBE TO THIS BLOG.” Fill in your name, (even if you’ve already done it) and email address. If it says You’re already subscribed or something like that, you are fine… you don’t need to do anything else!! If you are a new subscriber, fill in your name and email address and I think it will say Thank You.

It’s like we are all getting on the same page with the same program. But Sarah told me you WILL have to fill in your name and email address under the comments section when you get ready to comment. I’m not sure if “quick fill” will start happening for you or not… so it might automatically start filling in… we can hope it will.

I hope this is a simple fix and things start working the way they used to…
We’ll give this a go and see what happens.

I’ll probably have to put this notice at the top of my blog posts for a few days so everyone has a chance to see it. You can disregard it once you’ve done it.

Aha! You thought I was done with Rebecca’s Civil War dress, didn’t you? Well, I was laying in bed last night thinking about my “sleeveless” Civil War dress and September right around the corner, so I was debating about adding a pair of undersleeves to the set… I think it was Marilyn who mentioned something about the sleeves, so decided to go for it.

They aren’t super fancy like some of these in a couple of Civil War booklets I have…

…but I think they’ll add a little bit of extra interest to the dress. It can be a summery dress if you like or it can be a dress for cooler weather too… in just a snap! Well, I should say, “WITH” just a snap!

I made the sleeves and then I added a little tab at the top that snaps onto a snap sewn on the dress. It doesn’t affect anything if the dress is worn sleeveless and it’s just a way to hold the undersleeves up, without them sliding down the slick vinyl on the American Girl dolls arms.

Here is a close up of the shoulder tab…

The sleeve can be left down…

…or they can be scrunched up to her elbow…

Maybe you want to have them all the way scrunched up…

…for a look like this…

However you want your doll to look… like this…

…or this…

…now you have a choice!

I hope you enjoyed that!

See you Monday morning,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, Jeanne, I’m so glad that Sarah has figured out what the problem might be! I went ahead and filled out the box, and it comes up that I am already subscribed, so I went ahead and clicked the link to update, just in case. That came up that it would send an email to my inbox, although I haven’t seen it Yet….

I do like the new undersleeves you made–I think they really add a lot to the dress. It’s also nice that they can be removed, for hot weather!!

I had a busy day at the fairgrounds today, judging the “Top Seamstress” award. Fun!

    1. HI Charlotte,
I’m not sure everything is all OK on the blog front!!! A few people have made comments and I can’t get them to the comments section… but maybe it will take a few days to work out the kinks…
I’m glad you like the undersleeves for the dress. It will be nice that the dress can be worn with or without the sleeves.
You’ll have to describe some of the things you judged…and who and what won top seamstress!!!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Wow! I am really impressed. I think the sleeves add a lot to the dress, and the bows enhance the embroidered centerpiece. Sleep brought you some lovely inspiration.

The Victorian undersleeve illustrations are wonderful. Any of those sleeves would make a plain dress worthy of Christmas or Valentine’s. This was a wonderful blog entry to wake up to.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Some of those under sleeves were absolutely incredible and I want to make some more some time. They need to be made out of really lightweight fabric to be the prettiest…some all lace undersleeves would be beautiful!!!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Dear Jeanne, hello. The dress is lovely. The sleeves add a special touch.

I am wondering if you have ever seen a book about dolls children played with during the Civil War? I am doing some research because I am planning a presentation that I hope to make at our local Civil War Museum. I have seen a few articles but I haven’t seen a book.

    1. HI Dorothy,
I have some information that Laura sent me…I’ll send it to you the next time on my computer…I’m not so good at copying and padting things on my phone.
I’ll also look and see if I have anything…
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I resubscribed and hope that fixes it. I actually received today’s post under “Promotions” and might have missed it, except I was sorting through emails and emptying the Trash.

I love it, I absolutely love it!!! A convertible Civil War dress, whatever will you think of next? The brown and coral plaid is so very pretty and Rebecca seems very pleased at how it’s progressing. I also like the added bows to the sleeves. The more details, the better.

    1. HI Laura,
I’ll see Sarah tomorrow and I’ll tell her all the things everyone has been telling me…
I will also forward your info to Dorothy…
I’m glad you like the “convertible” sleeves!!
      Thanks so much, Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Hi Jeanne –
You remind me of inventors, designers and the like having great ideas / solutions come to them in the middle of the night! I once read where many kept a small notebook & pencil bedside so they could jot down notes then safely go to sleep not worrying they wouldn’t remember what they thought of.
I really love the under sleeves for Rebecca’s civil war dress and what a wonderful way you came up with to attach them – very cleaver. I agree with Laura that the brown / coral plaid is so pretty and I would add your coral accents really makes it pop. Thanks for sharing the civil war sleeve photos, they are very beautiful.

    1. HI Leigh,
Sometimes my problem is I think of the solution earlier when I’m just falling asleep and can’t quit thinking about it! Sometimes it makes for a sleepless night, but I guess if I get the answer, it’s worth it!
Thanks so much for your sweet compliments on Rebecca’s dress. I’m liking the sleeves too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I subscribed to your post and was told that I am already a subscriber and clicked to update. It said an email would be sent. I too hope this fixes the problem as I enjoy your posts. I like your undersleeves and loved the illustrations. I think I will try some the next time I make a civil war type dress as they are really lovely. The way you attached them is very clever and the ribbons make the sleeves/dress come together beautifully. Love it!

    1. HI Carole,
I talked with Sarah this morning after church and she assured me that signing up using the form at the right side of my blog will assure you getting it. I sure hope she’s right.. She’s tested it out, using a few different emails that she has and it does work according to her.

I know I’m going to try some more of those undersleeves… with some REALLY pretty and dainty lace, I think!
      Thanks so much Carole,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Well, for goodness sakes! I didn’t get this blog or today’s either. I just now put my name in to receive the blog, but it says I’m already subscribed! I just hope this is a small bump!

Love the sleeves! Sorry so short, but I have a bunch of things to do,

  8. How clever you are to think up those sleeves and the way to attach them. Always something new on your Blog. Thanks again. Hope the subscribing works.

  9. It’s a wonderful day in “our neighborhood “ because I received a blog post today and saw four others to gorge on that I hadn’t received! Hope the program problems are all gone. Thank you and Sarah so much for being willing to keep trying. Having morning coffee with you and the neighborhood is the very best way to start the day.
Love the civil war dress, and the sleeve info was fascinating. Having drooled over some beautiful sleeves I never knew and it never occurred to me that undersleeves were a thing! Obviously I need more research experience. Also really like the drop shoulder on some of the other dresses you’ve made, did you find a pattern or design it yourself? I can’t seem to find one and thought you might share pattern info?
Love all aspects of your blogs.
