Someone’s in the kitchen with Jeanne….again…

That “someone” was my sister Cindy! Remember this “mystery” picture?

Well, this is a bigger picture of what that was…

While Cindy was here, we not only primed the “refrigerator” wall cabinet boxes, but we put the backsplash up on the “stove” wall. It looks so nice in here now with both sides of my kitchen decorated in this pretty white “tile” backsplash. Here are a few more shots…

I took the pictures late Sunday night, because it was actually easier to see the detail in the tile design at night than in the daytime.

Here’s a closeup of the backsplash behind my stove…

I thought I was going to paint it when I originally bought it, but it’s a smooth to the touch embossed vinyl with a matte finish and cleans up wonderfully when you get something on it. I think I may leave it alone…at least for now… I really love the looks of it.

The 18″ x 18″ squares of this tile came from Menards and can be cut to whatever size you need with tin snips…and then we used Loctite adhesive to adhere it on the wall. It was a bit tricky trying to keep it straight and cutting out the holes for the outlets, but in about 2 hours I think we were all done. Oh and I must give my hubby credit for squirting the adhesive on the back with his caulk gun and putting my outlet covers on!

Well, like everyone’s been saying… bit by bit my kitchen is coming along!

Thanks for sticking around… one of these days I’m going to have that final kitchen reveal… won’t that be fun! Then we all get to have a “virtual” slice of that cake I’m going to make! :o)

One more thing… several of you have added comments to the post about the Back to School Stories… if you want to read some more… click HERE!

See you soon,

Your kitchen is looking SO pretty now, Jeanne! I can hardly wait for the reveal when it’s all finished!!

  2. This looks so nice, and I agree with you that you might not want to paint the backsplash, especially since it cleans up so beautifully. You do have enough to do painting the cabinets — why change something that looks beautiful? Maybe someday you’ll want a change and painting the backsplash will be just the thing, but right now, this lovely color and texture seems way too nice to change. It’s not a matter of being lazy, it’s a matter of knowing when you have something good.
It is going to be so nice to work in there that you’ll never want to stop cooking.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I’m so glad you are in agreement with me about not painting the backsplash. It really is nice to rub your hands over…. they just glide on the tile surface!
I just might go on a cooking frenzy when I get it all done… won’t that be fun?
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Your kitchen is truly evolving into a beautiful place!! I’d leave the backsplash as is too:)
So happy for you that you are finally getting the kitchen of your dreams , piece by beautiful piece.

    1. HI Shara,
It may have taken me a while to get my dream kitchen, but it’s been worth the wait! I am almost glad it wasn’t done quickly…as I’ve enjoyed the journey!
      Thanks for your compliments,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The back splash looks wonderful! I love the white color. Makes me think that I really should fill the holes above the tile behind our stove and paint. It has been that way since we put in new appliances several years ago. Never even think of how it looks. Just too many other things going on I guess.
I’ll see if I have any time today to get a pic of the family lace and the new dolly editions. Time just seems to be escaping lately.
On another note, it was made aware to me that Dollar Tree has glitter tennis shoes, the right size for The Girl For All Time dolls. Actually, they are key chains, but with that part removed, adorable with it shoes for the bigger girls. They come in blue, pink, gold, and silver and are about 3″. I’m not sure if they would fit the AG’s, but looks like they also fit my Silvia Natterer Finouche girl. Of course, you have to buy two, but a cute pair of shoes for $2.00 is a deal I think. I had to go to two stores to find them, but if anyone is interested, they had them in the oddest place. At the end of the check out counter. So, I had to hang out there and sort through the plastic tub to match up pairs. I bought enough for all of my girls. I did get the look from a few checking out wondering what I was going to do with all of those shoe key chains!
By the way, I love the counter display to the right of the stove. Should I be able to dispose of the clutter next to my stove, I would love mine to look similar.
Hope the picnic went well. Have a wonderful week.

    1. HI Joy,
This backsplash gives you quite a bit of instant gratification so you might check it out. I think this would have gone faster, but I wanted my tiles centered behind my stove so we had to work both directions with the tile and keep it straight. If you were just putting it under your cabinets and next to your countertops, it would have been super quick… just sayin’…
I know you are super busy but I hope you can snap a picture or 2 of the lace and the dollies!
Thanks for the tip about the glittery shoes at Dollar Tree… I just passed by there yesterday… too bad I didn’t know to stop then… I bought some of those tennis shoes key rings for one of my dolls in the past, but can’t remember who got them… maybe Nyssa?

That display was “manufactured” by Cindy… I provided the kitchen! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. How streamlined your kitchen looks, Jeanne! I do love the tin backsplash too! I should, since I have the same thing, it in silver, since I have a black stove in front of it. I believe we got ours at Home Depot, it not sure, and they had it in copper and stainless steel, like mine is. I think all the big box home improvement stores have it. It certainly cleans up well, while giving the wall interest.

Do you think you will be able to Make a Thanksgiving dinner in your kitchen? You think it will be finished by then? I hope so! Even cleaning up will be a lot more fun than it usually is! You will have a place for everything, and plenty of counter space too, not to mention being able to look up and see a pretty ceiling and chandelier!

I hope you had a successful picnic yesterday, and found many new friends, plus got to see some old ones! Is little Sarah there anymore, who actually probably isn’t all that little anymore?

    1. HI Linda,
Yes, this faux tile came in copper and silvery colors too… I debated about antiquing the white that I got, but decided it might look too busy, so I just kept mine white. I’m glad I did.

I just told George the other day, maybe I can be all done in the kitchen by Thanksgiving… It really would be wonderful to have a nice meal with some international friends over… :o)

The picnic was nice, but pretty humid out… We didn’t stay a long time… but we did see old friends and new students. Yes, Sara is still here… I think her mom graduates in December but I’ve already told her she can’t go back to Columbia… :o) She just smiles!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I was right, I was right!! The picture was behind the stove. Your kitchen looks so bright and airy now and will be a joy to cook and bake in. Linda’s right, you have lots of counter space, always a plu, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Joy, thanks for the tip about the shoes. I’ve heard people have found all kinds of things that work for dolls there. I know they apparently had a great eye dyeing set one year. I’m really sorry I missed that and Samantha is as well.

I have an invitation for you ladies. I only know a few of you on AGPT and a couple more are joining or have joined AG Dollhouse. I want to invite any of you who are interested i to join the Dollhouse. It’s a smaller board, but we have a lot of fun. I personally love the scenes that members share and fun creative ideas. If you are interested, please let me know. We would love to have you.

    1. Hi Laura,
Yes, you WERE right… I saw that you guessed right when I showed the mystery picture. The new backsplash really makes my kitchen look nice and neat and it’s really noticeable in person… not so much in my pictures, but in person…it’s really nice!

I might have to check out the new AG Dollhouse forum… I sometimes got lost in the rest of the posts on the AGPT site.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. The kitchen is certainly coming along. I love that backsplash too. I’m glad you kept it white. The white color just makes everything look so clean and whitewashed. I actually love the background to be white or light in color and then colors can be added with some of your kitchen items. Also, the items on your counters looks perfect. Wonderful wonderful job, Jeanne.
I think I missed this post yesterday.
    Have a wonderful day!!

    1. Thank you, Paula,
I’m just loving my new kitchen too. It’s almost hard to remember how terrible looking the old one was…but I’m certainly not trying very hard to remember it!
I like it being all neutral too, and adding a bit of color here and there…
      Thank you very much, Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne
