Some Saturday Snippets of my week…

Thank you, everyone, for carrying on while I was absent for a few days visiting my sister in Missouri. We had so much fun packed in those few days and when I had to leave this morning I cried! Time with your family is SO important and SO needed when a phone call just won’t do! I’m sorry to say I don’t have a single picture of anything from my trip. I looked on my phone and the only thing I took a picture of was a shot from a chair of Deb’s so we could try and match the fabric for a cushion. (and we found something!)

We had a wonderful time at the Spring Creek Tea Room in Ozark, MO. If you live anywhere near there, you really should try it out! (I highly recommend the coconut cake (and all the other desserts!) There isn’t anything that you won’t like! The tea room is in the middle of an antique shop so you can shop while you are waiting for your name to be called for a table… (it’s ALWAYS packed!) It’s really a fun place and we’ve sort of made it a tradition to go there when I visit Deb.

We found curtain rods for Deb’s living and dining room yesterday! Actually it was more like a ***SCORE*** on the rods… We found them marked down at Hobby Lobby… and she got 5 rods for $20!!! Yep… 3 of the rods were $3.24 a piece and 2 more rods were $4.24 each! It was an incredible deal that couldn’t be passed up! She was going to use the curtains from her previous house, so she REALLY saved big time!

We had frozen custard at a place called Andy’s Custard! It was ABSOLUTELY DIVINE!

We did a little shopping at some favorite shops of hers but I only came home with a pump bottle for my kitchen soap! It’s okay… I was happy!

I’m not sure why, but I didn’t sleep the whole night last night, so I didn’t have time to think of a really creative post, but I did receive a box last week from a friend of one of my subscribers. I don’t even think she reads my blog, but she thought I might like these things so she sent them to me… There are some really nice laces that will be perfect on petticoats and pantalettes! Some of the laces are tiny and I can make slips from them for the smaller dolls. She even had some ribbon in 1/16″ width. You don’t see that tiny size very often. It’s still in the box for the most part, and I need to get it all put away… and maybe share some of it…

Here are a few pictures of what was inside.

We have a picnic tomorrow to welcome the new and returning students to the University this semester. I need to get to bed so I’ll be alert! So I’m going to have to say good night!

I’ll see you soon,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Dear Jeanne, yea I am first! I am still up from the night before.
What a wonderful gift from a friend of a friend!
I am so glad you had a nice time with your sister. Sister time is special. And it’s always fun to take Afternoon Tea.
    I wish you a dolly playing-outfit sewing-kitchen finishing-nap taking awesome weekend.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I’m waiting for my hubby to get home from helping set up for the picnic, so I thought I might have time to get a few comments answered.
Looks like you are a late night owl like me… :o)

The box of goodies was wonderful and packed to the top!!! As I was taking things out to look at them, my mind was already thinking of things to make!

Sister time WITH momma along was great!!! Since my mom sold her house, Deb might not make it home as often… 😮 (

      Thanks Dorothy,
I hope there is still enough of the day left after the picnic to do something else!!! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Hi Jeanne, How lucky you are. Good friends and there friends sharing treasures what fun you must have had going though all the stash.

    1. HI Lynn,
Yes, I did have fun going through the box of laces and trims…if I didn’t have thus picnic today, you can imagine what I’d be sorting out!!!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Wow, that is really a treasure box, for sure! Such lovely laces, ribbons and things. I’m so happy you got it!! I know she was happy to find a good home for those items.

That tea room sounds wonderful; don’t know if I will ever get to MO again, but if I ever do, I want to go!!

I’m glad you had such a good time with Deb; what a score for her on those curtain rods!!!

I’d best quit now and head off to bed soon. Tomorrow is 4-H entry day for sewing for our upcoming fair, and I’m one of the judges, so I really can’t sleep in!

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
The box was wonderful and I’m such a sucker for laces and trims!!! I just can’t resist!!!

The tea room is so much fun and the desserts are out of this world. They have the names of the desserts written on a glass window pane with the dessert sitting behind. You better make sure you order a slice of something and reserve it when you order your lunch, or it might be gone when you are finished. They disappear fast! :o)

We have a fair starting next week at a nearby town. They usually have the sewing and hand crafts in one of the buildings. Your talk of being a judge makes me want to check ours out! I hope you have fun!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Good grief, what a wonderful supply of gorgeous laces and trims. Now you really can make some of the Victorian dresses I’ve been looking at, lovely things dripping with lace.
I am so glad you had a lovely relaxing time and saw such great things and ate such nice things. Next time you can take pictures. How nice to be sharing the nice times with your mother and sisters. Memories last for a long time, and you don’t have to find a place to put them.
Now you get to make picnic food in your pretty kitchen and next week you’ll be back making the kitchen even prettier. We still have something like 5 more weeks of summer. Maybe we can all relax and enjoy it while we keep working on the projects we all have. It must be possible to relax and enjoy and be productive, all at the same time.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Yes…new laces for new Victorion things!!! I knew you’d be happy!!
The trip to Deb’s was quick and too short to suit me but that’s why we had to cram so much in those few days… we went non stop from sun up till sun down…but it really didn’t seem hurried to me…just fun.
I’m hoping for some time after the picnic to get something here at home accomplished… :o)
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Glad you’re back safely. Taking care of your mom on a trip as well as visiting and sightseeing can be exhausting. I’m sure you couldn’t sleep because of that, the long drive, and returning to all of the things and commitments at home. Hopefully, you can catch a nap before you dive into the next calling. Did your mom enjoy the trip? Hope so.
Seeing that lovely surprise box of goodies reminds me that I too recently received a box. At the family reunion my cousin holds each year at her ranch, I came away with a box from her marked “Lace.” Since I seem to be the keeper of the family history and artifacts, why not the family lace? When I opened it later at home, I found an amazing collection of beautiful, mostly hand made lace dating from the late 1800’s. It includes lace made by our grandmother as well as from my aunt, and other relatives. Would you like to see it? I suppose that I could try and get a photo if there is any interest.
On another note, we went to an estate sale yesterday. There were some very lovely things, but other person doesn’t want me dragging home anything else until we can sort out all of the things we have piled around in boxes from his parents home. Too bad, as there was a mirror that I would have loved. But, I did find some dollies that looked like they needed a new home. I bought two Nancy Ann Storybook dolls from the early 1950’s, both dressed in Valentine’s motif. I have another from my childhood packed away. I was a happy camper.
Have a fun picnic and a wonderful weekend.

    1. HI Joy,
My mom did enjoy herself…I think we about ran her ragged but she was game for everything we did.
Your box sounds fun…and YES…WE WANT TO SEE PICTURES!!!
I guess “stuff” isnt the same as dolls, because I see you gave in and got them….pictures of them please!!!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Charlotte Trayer

I’d love to see pictures, too, Joy.

One suggestion (if it hasn’t already been done): write little notes as to who made what, while you still know/remember. Even though you think you would “never forget That”, it can happen–even without demetia setting in!!! If you are storing the laces in acid-free tissues and boxes, perhaps you could write on acid-free tags, too….or maybe take pictures and add details.

  6. Well, where did the time go today? I thought I made a comment, but I guess I didn’t! I have been getting two of the same blog everyday, one coming in at 1 am, and the other at 4 am. I delete one, but must have deleted them both before writing! I’m so sorry!

Oh, my what a wonderful stash of laces and ribbons! I just hope you have the place to store them all, but of course, you could also sew more dresses without having to go out and look around for the perfect trims. Did whoever gave it to you work at a store or something? Such a wonderful variety of trims! Lucky you!

Oh, Nancy Anne Storybook Dolls, Joy! I had them when a child, but not anymore. I remember they sure were popular, though. Can you send us pictures of your new dolls and the family lace? That would be wonderful!

Jeanne, I’m glad you managed to drive all the way to Springfield and back by yourself! I’m not that brave! I just HAVE to get to that tea room soon! We are scheduled for a trip to Branson in October, so maybe we can stop by there. Is it far from Hwy. 65? We always stop for gas there, so just maybe we can try it out.

Have a wonderful time at the picnic, the weather is pretty nice, if not a bit humid. Well, you can’t have everything, and at least it isn’t raining!

    1. HI Linda,
I hope to talk to a guy at church tomorrow to see if he has any answers for the way my posts have been coming to people…some on the right day, some on the next day and some 2x a day…weird!!!
The lady who sent the laces and ribbons to me used to make doll clothes, but she’s 84 now and is making quilts for babies now.
I already asked Joy to send pictures of her laces and new dolls!!! I hope she does!

Linda, the tea room is right in Ozark I believe. It’s called Spring Creek Tea Room…I can probably get directions from Deb if you like…it’s really fun to go there!!!

We are already home from the picnic…it was a fairly nice day except for the humidity…but like you said, at least it wasn’t raining…
Now it’s time for a shower and some time to relax.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Now I’m getting two of your blog as well, Jeanne, but that it better than getting it a day late. Wonder what’s up with that. 🙂 I’m glad to help other blog friends out with the PC/AG girls. I guess since I’ve seen them since there were only three it’s easy to keep up (with the historicals and friends that is, but I can’t do mot of the GOTY’s)
So glad you had a wonderful time at Deb’s and I agree that afternoon tea at a tearoom would be so much fun.
What a wonderful assortment of laces you have ther. I agree with Marilyn that Victorian dresses are in order for them.
Hope everyone has a great time at the picnic, those are always a lot of fun.

Yes, Joy, please share pictures of you family lace and the Storybook dolls. I have a number of pieces of crocheted lace and dresser scarves, doilies etc, that my grandmother made and well as a s”sampler” of sorts that my great aunt made. She was born in 1901 and girls back then had to do a sampler of sewing/ crochet/ embroidery work for school. It’s a mixture of drawnwork, embroidery, darning piecing, hand sewn buttonholes etc. all bordered with different crochet stitches. My mom had a Little Bo Peep and a bride that are sadly gone now, but my daughter found a “Party Doll” NIB at an antique store during one of our day trips for 50 cents, can you believe that?

    1. HI Laura,
Like I just told Linda, I’m hoping to get to the bottom of my posts coming at strange times…I don’t know why they do that…
Thank you very much for helping us out with the AG questions we might have…I really appreciate that! :o)
We are home from the picnic now. It was “pretty” humid so my hair looks like a horses tail…I can’t wait to get in the shower.
It’s fun to find a doll or some kind of doll accessory at junk and thrift shops! They are always a treasure and I hope Joy shares hers…if you want to share your laces go right ahead…we’d love to see yours too.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Oh my what a lovely gift! I bet you had so much fun looking at every single item. So glad to hear of all the fun you had with your sister and mom, the tea room and custard sound great.
I also am receiving your posts late sometimes (today was one) so hopefully you will get to the bottom of it. I remember my Grandma had 2 storybook dolls – they were in very fancy dresses and we could only look – not touch. I think my sister ended up with them.
Hope you can have a restful day tomorrow.

    1. HI Leigh,
My new box of laces, the tea room and even our hot fudge sundae were all fabulous. I don’t know how… but I lost 3.4 pounds!!! Yay!!

I’m ready to get back to some sewing…and being in my sewing room, surrounded by my dolls!
      Thanks Leigh,
      Blessings, Jeanne
