Want a sneak peek of Sissy’s Christmasy home?

Hi everyone,
Thank you to the wonderful winner last night who bought Natasha’s red Christmas dress and white fur cape! I hope you’ll be very happy with it and enjoy seeing your doll dressed in it!

Today we are going to take a look at Sissy’s Christmasy home down in Georgia! She sent some pictures, so I didn’t have to struggle coming up with a post and here’s what she said about them.

Jeanne, these are some larger and some that are small things that were my mothers and grandmothers.

Here is our fireplace mantel, my grandmother bought the Madonna in Italy.

The little things are ones that are almost as old as I am.

The tiny Santa goes to the top of the top and bumps down to the chimney.

The “kissing” Santas are ones my mom bought to be her and my dad.

The “musical” angels were my grandmothers.

The tree place mats on the table I bought 58 years ago.

The hand made wreath I bought at a craft show years ago. It has the whole story on it.

This “tree” hanging on the door was my mom’s. We decorated it too.

The little fake tree is covered in sea shore animals. I have showed a few of them for you. This is enough. I hope you like them.

Thank you Sissy! Your house looks a LOT more Christmasy than mine does. My hubby did go up in the attic and bring down the Creche he made years ago and put Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus in there, along with a few other figurines and animals. It’s the only thing Christmasy we’ve put out so far…

I like the glass animals you have on your tree… when you live coastal, even your Christmas tree gets involved! :o) Your little angles laying on their sides are adorable! Thank you so much for sharing, Sissy!

I’ll see everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Sissy, it was so much fun to see all your lovely decorations. Being a former teacher, and with a minor in library science, I of course noticed some of the books you had in some of the pictures–the old Raggedy Ann book, for instance, and your Christmas books. Even a Mary Engelbreit one, if I’m seeing right! And the Hummel bookends are just wonderful.

My favorite piece, though, is the wreath, I think. It’s nice that they included the entire Christmas story in its figures.

I replied to three comments on yesterday. Barbara, Joy, and Elizabeth, you might want to take a look.

I’d love to see your cookie cutter collection. Maybe a few pics? As I was gently washing the red ones, I discovered that I have one green one. It’s a gingerbreadman. Charlotte, do you have any green plastic cutters from that company that made the red ones? It’s the only one I’ve seen, but there must have been more made. I did go back and read your yesterday post. I would love to see those you mentioned. TKS

No, no green cookie cutters, Joy, but I think my gingerbread man is blue! I will have to dig some out and take pictures one of these days. I have some pretty cool ones, including a set of (surprise!) sewing tools! Those are more modern, though.

I replied to your question of yesterday but actually told you the wrong thing. I gave you the pattern for Zelia’s dress with the embroidery. The pattern you asked for is called “Versatility Dress”. It’s on Pixie Faire. It has three skirt styles but I usually seem to prefer the middle one with the fuller skirt. Dell’s dress is made from the same pattern but I may have used one of the less fuller skirts for hers. I’ve made this pattern several times. It always comes out very nice.

Thank you, Barbara. I will take a look at Pixie Faire, perhaps tomorrow. Need to get to bed soon as I have a doctor’s appt. in the morning. Usually I do afternoon appts. but they worked me in because I have a UTI , and I decided I would take whatever they offered!!

Charlotte, thank you for enjoying the pictures and noticing the books. I have several Raggedy books from my child hood. The Christmas books are small. My Simone used to love them. The Hummel bookends were in my grandmothers sun room when I was a little girl. I wanted to play with them so much, but she would only let me pat them. I love that wreath, too. It is the only one I have ever seen. What a lot of work went into that!

Jeanne, thank you for showing them so well, putting the writing for each part separately. When I try to do it that way I just mess it up. My mom wasn’t one to keep a lot of stuff, but she loved the Christmas things like I do. I do hope some of the family will want them some day.

We are off to the YMCA, so will catch up with Y’all later.

Dear Sissy, how lovely your home is! I like that you have actual visual memories of your Christmases past. Thank you for allowing us to take a peek.

Thank you, Dorothy, I am so glad you enjoyed it. Since I don’t have family for Christmas day, it makes me feel good to see these memories.

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

Sissy I love your beautiful decorations and I would love to have your fireplace. So many memories are part of your Christmas deccor. What a blessing.

  3. Linda in St. Louis

Sissy, I loved seeing how you decorate your home for Christmas! It’s fun to bring out those older little trinkets from long ago that bring us such beautiful memories of Christmases past. Although today we are bombarded with suggestions of new decorations, I am Iike you, putting out the things that were my parents and in laws and little things that I remember from my childhood, in addition to to things that I myself bought during the 59 (almost) years that we have been married.

I too, noticed the older books and the Hummel figurines, so dear to my heart! I also absolutely love that beautiful wreath that tells the Christmas story. The darling angels, and kissing Santa couple are things I remember from the past. Your fireplace looks so inviting, and did you make the Christmas stockings?

What a difference to see seashore ornaments on a Christmas tree! I live about as far away from the ocean as you can get, living in the middle of the country, and have never seen a tree decorated like that! It is perfect for you and beautiful seeing those shiny shells sparkling in the lights!

Thank you so much for inviting in to see your decorations, I loved it!

Thank you, Linda, so nice to know you remember some of the old ones too. The Stockings came here from Land’s End a long time ago. I would love to see yours as well. I know you will have lovely things to show us.

  4. Dear Sissy, thank you for sharing your Christmas treasures and they really are keepsakes. I love the story for each one too. The figurine from Italy looks like lladro! So beautiful to have one of Mary. I spied amongst your Santas, the cute Hümmel girl and boy on the books. Those are so cute.
You have a lot of beautiful keepsakes with such sweet stories. I love that.
You are very dedicated going to the Y every morning. That is superb. I need to start doing something early in the morning like bundle up and walk around the block!

Jeanne, I hope you are enjoying some “down time” and spending time with Reuben while preparing for Christmas.
I finished the Under the Maple Tree quilt top completely, and I think I found a backing for it. I am in no rush to have it quilted.
I started a few other projects, but some how just fell into making some festive little stuffed goose ornaments for my grand kiddos. I honestly do not know how that happened. I found all of the supplies I needed and started making them.
I will send Jeanne up date pictures
    Love to all of you

Thank you for enjoying them Rosemary. Without the ornaments from my family I wouldn’t have much! I am looking forward to seeing both your geese and your Maple Tree quilt. It is fun that we can use this blog to help Jeanne and enjoy lovely things from each other.

What a wonderful way to start the day. Jeanne’s great sale and Sissy’s lovely home. Hope that Jeanne’s Couples party goes well and that she can haul down a few more decorations. 🙂 I should talk. Here, we have up the tree with no decorations and the cute little lighted dog decoration that we recently acquired, and that’s it. I’m sure after we get through the kitchen mess and appliance hassle Saturday, that other person will locate the singing Santa’s. They are pretty funny.

I’m in love with Sissy’s fireplace. It’s lovely and decorated so nicely. All the décor is perfect. Thanks so much for sharing Sissy and Jeanne.

Rushing as I have a dental cleaning this morning and then back to boxing up kitchen stuff that needs to be out of the way. Yikes. Where will I put everything?

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Joy, here my second try to get to you, I just came back and saw my note was not there. Anyway, I Thank you for the kind words to my Fireplace. I would love to see/hear your singing santas. I know you are busy and hope you find some room to put things until you can get every thing worked out.

Good morning, everyone! I stayed up last night until 1:30 am, working on the schoolroom gift for my Great-Granddaughter….so slept in until 10:30 today! My circadian rhythm is completely out-of-whack, but I don’t worry about it as much as I used to. The bladder has me up sometimes frequently at night so that contributes to broken sleep….and I find that sometimes after dinner and relaxing with my daughter while we watch another Poldark episode on Netflix, I get a second wind….and I am ready to craft for a while! Plus, I’m on a mission to finish projects in time for Christmas!

Thank you Barbara for sharing your experience with healing from a pulled tooth….this isn’t something I would want to go thru again! You would think that someone who has gone thru three full-term births and fought breast cancer 11 years ago, had both knee joints replaced, and lives with fatty liver disease, would breeze thru a tooth extraction. Not so much! Staying positive and pushing on thru is my mantra. although I think it gets more difficult now in my seventies! My father used to say about things in general…..”Well, what’s your alternative?” I prefer pushing on thru, and believing that God is always with us thru thick and thin, and that the human body has the miraculous ability to heal.

And thank goodness for hobbies and the use of eyes and hands to pursue sewing and crafts for dolls to keep our minds busy! I always tell my daughters that I’ll keep doing this for as long as I can. But I think my fabric stash will outlive me!

And thank you Barbara for mentioning My Life As and New Generation doll background scenes….I plan to look into them. I did use a fabric panel of a haunted house from Fabric Shack online, which I mounted onto foam-core board and used as a background for my witch dolls last year!

Must grab a bite to eat and a cup of coffee and return to the art room for the day! Worked on chores yesterday….cleaning cat boxes, emptying wastebaskets, watered plants, and did my laundry…and was totally worn-out by dinner time. Daughter prepared dinner and then my second wind kicked in late at night! Chores seem to take me longer to do now as I am moving like a turtle some days….but today is mine to spend crafting.

Elizabeth I am looking forward to see your Great-granddaughter
s gift, I know it will be fabulous!
We have watched both Poldarks, the first one and the next one that was much better. We liked it so much we have all 12 books on Kindle. They were great too.!

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

I love your philosophy on life. I share that. I had a dysfunctional childhood and the two things that saved my sanity was my love for sewing/creating and my relationship with the Lord and my church. As a rule I went to church by myself because I could walk there and no one else wanted to go. I felt blessed to be able to do those things.

  7. I wrote a big long comment and a kitty stepped on my keyboard just as I hit comment. Obviously, the timing was a second off and didn’t go through.
I will just have to say that your home is beautiful. I love the tiles around your fireplace and the seashore ornaments.

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Thank you, Laura. I like that you noticed my tiles. I had made tiles from my mom’s fireplace when they built a smaller house, so when we were building our house here, I made tiles for the fireplace like hers, which have sea shore creatures on them.
