Hi everyone,
I’ve watched the 1994 version of “Miracle on 34th Street” MANY times, but tonight I was taking a break, watching it again, as I was pooped from putting together my favor bags and baking some of the cookies. It was the scene in the movie where little Susan runs into the new house “Santa” found for them, and as the camera was panning the beautifully decorated rooms and sparkling Christmas tree, I saw a doll sticking up under the Christmas tree that I’d never noticed before!
Have you seen this scene before? Did you see her?
It was as plain as day and I saw her twice… once when the camera passed by her, and then again when the camera came back to Susan’s face. The doll was American Girl Felicity!! She was dressed in her dark green velvet riding habit and looked just like this.
I Googled my question and tried to find the last few moments of the movie where Felicity was seen, but wasn’t able to pull it up. If I can find time tomorrow, I might find the movie again, fast forward to that scene and have my phone ready to video it… if not, I did take this screen shot I found …
Well, that was my “research” for today!
Time for you to chat!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I haven’t seen the remake of “Miracle on 34th Street” in quite a few years but I do watch the original version, which I just love. Edmund Gwenn made such a perfect Santa, and of course Maureen O’Hara is one of my favorite actresses.
I will have to watch for the newer version and take another look; I’ve seen it before, but never noticed that Felicity was in that scene. Cool!
Oh, Joy and Barbara I have replied to your comments on yesterday’s blog.
Okay, now I’m thinking that the little gingerbread guy I have could be the same one you have. I thought it was green, but with my vision, it could be blue. I’ll take a look. That is if I can find him after all of the supposed clean up I have been doing. 🙂
Well, what do you know, Jeanne, I have been watching it, and have it halfway finished on my DVD, and will finish it tonight! I have that riding outfit for my Felicity, but never have seen her in the movie, although I have watched it every year since it came out (newer version! I just love that movie!
I spent yesterday in the kitchen, and am staying out of it today, but going back to cookie baking tomorrow when it is supposed to be a rainy day. My usual things like laundry and vacuuming, dusting, have taken a back seat to Christmas preparations, so I will try to remedy that today. We hope to get out tonight to see some light displays around the neighborhood. It’s free and no having to fight crowds!
,
I just now saw the rest of the movie. I sped it up and boy was that easy to miss Felicity, but yes, there she was! I never saw the earlier version, but just this newer one, and so it is my favorite. I have a DVD player and have all the various Christmas movies, and have fun watching them during the holidays, since I need close captioning and you can’t get that at the show.
Jeanne, I would love to see the first version again, but we don’t have it unless it comes up on TCM. We did see the latest one but it just couldn’t compare with the first one.
We have our Wednesday service today and then back for more cookies. Hoping to finish them today, then start packing them up to mail.
It has warmed up a bit, and will do so for awhile, in the 40’s and 50’s.
Thanks again, Y”all for enjoying my photos yesterday.
Hi Sissy,
I did get to see your Christmas decoration pictures in your home. Very unique treasures. Those type of things have great meaning when they’ve been handed down from family. The sea creature ornaments are so interesting!
I always say I can let go of a box of ornaments from Target but not the ones passed down to me or ones given to me as gifts.
Thank you for sharing your pictures. It’s always a treat to see our Sofa Sisters keepsakes .
Thank you, Paula. I am so glad you enjoyed them. It is especially nice to share them here because we only have a couple of friends to see them this year.
Boy, I guess I’ve missed something. I’ve never seen the 1994 version of Miracle. Only the original. Maybe I can find it somewhere. Finding things isn’t easy any more with our tv’s.
Another cold day yesterday, but we managed to get in a walk and more moving stuff around here in the kitchen. All the cookie cutter collection is clean and sparkling now and most in big jars for display. Now, I can move everything out of the kitchen so the workers can get at least part of the appliances installed on Saturday. Still not sure how that is going to work. We need the microwave installed before the range. We’re not sure the range is even here yet. The refrigerator has to go so the range can be removed and a new one come in. Then the dishwasher has to go and the new brought in. And last the refrigerator brought in. So, there will probably be a problem. One team puts in the microwave and refrigerator. Another does the dishwasher and range. This small kitchen can only accommodate a couple of workers at once. Should be very interesting. Oh, and it’s supposed to be raining too. Going to be messy.
We actually had rain last night. And it’s a balmy 51 this morning. So glad that it has finally warmed up.
Today, I’m going to tackle the cabinet over the refrigerator. Who knows what I may find there. 🙂
Barbara, I tried to find Lilian’s H4H doll, dress pattern, but gave up. It’s the one with the seams down the front and two fabric colors and long sleeves. 🙂
Joy I got it from Pixie Faire so I went and looked and it’s no longer there. I’ll find my pattern and let you know more.
Joy, what an amazing job coming up in your kitchen. I do hope it all comes through well. Let us know how it goes!
How exciting to be getting the kitchen appliances in soon. I’m sure the guys will do a good job. There’s nothing better than “new” verses “older and not working.”
Good luck !
Joy, you are having all that work done in your kitchen right before Christmas? On an other note, I have a red plastic gingerbread boy cookie cutter that belonged to my mother-in-law that I use. Maybe the same as what you have.
Wednesday already. Wow and oh my goodness, we are flying to Christmas.
You have very sharp eyes Jeanne! How cute to find Felicity in her very snappy riding outfit!
We have not seen this updated version of Miracle on 34th street. I will look for it.
Hubbs and I watched a new (2025) very short series on PBS called Miss Austen
It was pretty cute.
I am so glad for the warming up period we are going to have the next few days. The bitter cold was a beast!
Take good care of yourselves dear ones. “Hydrate and moisturize”
I have never seen the remake, but I will certainly go look at the clip and may give the whole movie a try. I love the original with Natalie Wood. In fact, I tend to always stay with the original versions. I do like both the 1949 and 1994 versions of Little Women (no other though)as well as the 1943 and 2006 mini series of Jane Eyre (haven’t seen others).
As far as showing Felicity, well that is the most perfect choice next to Samantha. Haha.
I have that PC Riding Habit for my Felicity and find that outfit and hat so elegant. When I have time to dress dolls it tends to be her January outfit and then Elizabeth’s is for February.
I found the clip and saw Felicity. I also watched 10 or so minutes and already know I would not enjoy this one like the original. Edmund Gwenn is the perfect Kris Kringle and I love Mr. Gailey’s character, Natalie Wood as Susan, and the extras like Alfred and the little Dutch girl;. No, another version just won’t possibility compare.
I wasn’t even aware there was a 1994 version of Macy’s Christmas movie. I’ll have to check it out! I agree with Laura, Felicity, in her dramatic green riding outfit is more dramatic.
Thanks Jeanne for telling us about her.
Now as Christmas draws near, I’m down to just a few fun things to do. Tonight is our neighborhood holiday event and then Saturday we have a neighborhood event where families with children decorate their golf cars with Christmas decorations and parade down the various streets. We like to hand out various treats to the children. The little ones get all excited for this event and some dress up in cute costumes. It’ll be fun to see them go by.
And I’m loving sitting at night by the lights of the Christmas tree. So peaceful and beautiful – thinking of the true meaning of Christmas.
If I have seen Miracle on 34th St I don’t remember it, either version. My absolute favourite old Christmas movie is It’s a Wonderful Life. It used to be on TV regularly at Christmas but it hasn’t been for a few years now. I love anything with Jimmy Stewart.
Well we finally got some rain, I won’t need to water the garden now. The temperature has dropped too, from 28-30C down to 19C today. There is a happy medium but the weather doesn’t seem to find it at the moment. We will hear tonight what the forecast is for Christmas Day. 25C would be nice, not too hot but warm enough for sitting outside on the deck! It is looking more like it will be cold and rainy though. I hope we haven’t had our summer!
Lots still to do today. Like Linda, I have neglected the housework this week so today we are cleaning. We put the tree up last night (well, Sam did) and a few things out. My two quilted wall hangings are up and my Christmas quilt is on the sofa. Not much else, The only people to see it who are interested will be Sam and I, Russel probably hasn’t got a tree in his house and Asher doesn’t really care about Christmas. I have set out my nativity set, It isn’t antique but I have had it quite a few years now.
Jeanne, don’t wear yourself out before the day, though I guess we are all in danger of that! I really hope everyone appreciates all the work you do.
Joy, I moved house once on 18th Dec. It was from one army quarters to another in Singapore so didn’t have to move furniture but it was still stressful with three young children. I remember my husband standing on a ladder putting up the decorations. No A/C in those days (over 50 years ago) only a fan but he couldn’t have that on while he was hanging streamers. My 5 yr old son stood at the bottom of the ladder and said “we are having fun aren’t we daddy”. My poor husband with sweat pouring down his face could only smile and say yes lol.
Have a great day everyone
Love that!
Hello everyone! I worked late again last night and haven’t been up long…I always feel like I’m one of Santa’s elves this close to Christmas, working in the toy room! I’ve always wanted to turn a dollhouse into one of Santa’s toy-making buildings complete with elves and toys being made. I’ll see some Christmasy sale item in a store or Hobby Lobby and pick it up with the intention of using it the “North Pole” toy store…someday! Totally inspired by the Santa Claus movie sets with Tim Allen!
Loved reading your comments about the Miracle on 34th Street movie. I manage to catch the old and new version each year…sometimes more than once. I will need to look for that AG doll under the Christmas tree in the second version!
Discovered another series to watch….has anyone else watched “The Great British Sewing Bee”? My daughter in Indiana told me about it and thought I might enjoy it since I like to sew. I found it on the ROKU channel and OMG….feel in love with it!! Have watched all 10 seasons which started filming, I believe, in 2011 and carried thru 2025. I read online that the BBC had received approval to continue with a season 11, and it came out in the UK in July of this year. It might be a while before we are able to view it here in the US though. So I’ve started watching again with Season 1! I sometimes have it on to keep me company while I’m crafting and sewing.
Season 1 has a sewer named Anne, who is 82, I believe they said, and she has been sewing for 75 years. Her sewing skills and fabric choices have wowed the judges and she comes in as the top sewer for many of the challenges. You learn a bit about the different sewers for each season….they come from all walks of life, and many were taught sewing from their mothers or Grandmothers. Even several of the male sewers!
One episode had the “Fifties clothing” challenges and I had to laugh out loud when the sewers arrived for that set of challenges and their nice sewing machines of today had been replaced with black Singer sewing machines of that era….which only did forward and backward stitching! The men of the group looked like they were sitting in front of toy sewing machines!
I have learned many techniques to keep in mind even when making doll fashions. And it is fun to hear the British pronunciation of some sewing words…like applique or Shashiko, and other words. And snaps are called “poppers”…never just snaps. You can feel the contestants angst when the hostess announces how much time they have left….and see them scurry to finish when half an hour or fifteen minutes is announced! Sometimes a sewer is not able to completely finish a garment or challenge and so they end up putting it on their mannequins with pins holding up a hem, etc. And may times, a sewer realizes they have sewn a collar or a bodice piece wrong side out and they must pick out the seam and redo it, which eats into their allowed time.
Each episode has a short segment on the history of whatever type of fashion or fabric they are working on that week….I’ve learned a lot of facts I didn’t know before! Lots of fun, creativity, inspiration, laughter and camaraderie with each episode and the series format.
Barbara, thank you for responding to my post from yesterday….sounds like we may have similar backgrounds! I, too, walked to church often by myself; and my religion kept me on balance while growing up. I found enjoyment with art projects at the early age of 10, and sewing interests starting in 8th grade Home Ec classes. Dolls were always a part of my childhood and they went to the wayside when I was raising three daughters on my own, but that old favorite past-time came back into play once they were adults. For a while I made and sold cloth dolls which matched a storybook character in children’s picture books. Never sold online….but to folks at work who would ask for a doll and book, or for my granddaughters. I’ve gone “crazy” with retirement years and the time it allows to pursue art and sewing projects. Those projects have helped me navigate various health issues over the years! I may be losing my hearing, my eyes and liver are compromised, my age and spinal stenosis has me walking slightly bent forward so I can keep an eye on where I’m walking so I don’t fall and break a bone and I’m forever repeating for my daughters….”Lordy, Lordy, guess who’s WAY past forty!” But thank goodness for hobbies like art, sewing, and reading!
Dear Jeanne, I enjoyed reading all of the comments.
My top favorite Christmas movies are these three:
1 Christmas in Connecticut (the original 1945 with Barbara Stanwyck and Dennis Morgan)
2 Home By Christmas (2006 with Linda Hamilton with Rob Stewart)
3 A Christmas To Remember (2016 Hallmark with Mira Sorvino and Cameron Mathison)
