Today it’s Anne’s turn… from New Zealand to the UK!

Hi everyone,
I guess we’ll visit with another world traveler today. I am still working in my sewing room, Kirsten is still standing in the same position as she was on Friday, but I did get her a really fun treat to go along with her dress.

However today’s spotlight will be on Anne, who has traveled from New Zealand to visit her family. I can’t remember how long it’s been since she’s seen her brother and sister, but I know it’s been years. Let’s see what she has to say!

Hi Jeanne
I am sending some photos. This is me (on the left) with my brother, John, and sister, Jan. This was the day I arrived after 36 hours traveling with a bad head cold!!!

This is Singapore airport where there were 4 of these huge objects all filled with orchids of all colours, with lots more displays around them. Singapore is easily the most beautiful airport I have been in.

This is one photo of Whinfell Quarry gardens, quite small but with paths winding all the way around from top to bottom. All looked after by volunteers.

Well, Anne, you have LOTS more pictures to take to catch up with Charlotte! If you have more keep them coming! We are all so happy you were able to make this trip and visit your family. It’s going to be terribly hard to leave, I can just tell! Enjoy your time together each day you have left!

See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, thank you all for your many kind comments on my pictures yesterday. I hope I remembered to answer everyone’s questions; if not, please let me know!

Anne, how nice to see some pictures from you today!! If you hadn’t said you’d had a head cold that day, I would never have known! How lovely that you have both a brother and a sister! I always wanted a sister, but after my brother was born, that was it. I guess June is as close to a sister as I’ve ever had.

Oh, gosh, I think it would be worth a trip to Singapore just to see all those wonderful orchids and fabulous displays! You were so fortunate to be able to see that. Orchids are one of my favorite flowers (the other is lilacs), and the ones in your pictures are simply glorious!

Whinfell Quarry Gardens looks like a delightful place. I would love to see that some time. Its really lovely.

Thanks so much for sharing, Anne! Enjoy the rest of your visit, and safe travels home!

Anne, you and your sister look amazingly alike! Do you notice that the two of you have almost identical glasses on?It’s so nice to see you finally! And no, you do not look like you have a cold at all there! What a nice looking brother and sister trio!

Wow, that airport in Singapore is amazing! I have never seen anything like that! How tall is that whole flower display? It certainly does look rather large!

And the Whinfell Quarry Gardens looks so magical, almost out of a fairytale! It also looks very challenging to walk through, but is a wonderful thing that it is staffed by volunteers! They must be such good-hearted people to do that for the pleasure of others!

Thank you for your pictures and “ taking us along” with you! So now I have been to .England too! 😉

I traveled by air with a head cold once. Not fun. But Anne looks like she’s been enjoying a glass of lemonade while reading a new favorite book and is now ready for a relaxing walk in that beautiful garden with her family. Anne, I hope you have a lovely time with new and old memories. I understand that the national cuisine is supposed to be very good. I’ll hope for a report.

I think that for most of us Jeanne’s projects — sewing, cooking, house and decorating — are inspiring. I chose the wrong one and have been trying to get help for a blood clot. I have finally done it. 4 out of 5 of us have a blood clotting gene. The one without the gene just had surgery for a clot going the full length of her leg. After surgery, they put the leg in a pressure stocking. She said it was like trying to stuff a balloon into a straw and caused her to say several words she wasn’t supposed to know.

Everyone here should aim for a summer more like Anne’s than mine. Stay well and plan something nice for the day.

    1. Joy in northern CA

So, Marilyn, are you also having surgery for your clot problem? Does not sound fun at all. Sorry that most everyone has the gene in your family. Hope where you are in CO is having some nice weather this summer.

    2. Charlotte Trayer

Oh, Marilyn, I’m so sorry you’ve had this blood clot problem! I hope you are well on your way to recovery now.

Ron had surgical stockings on for a short while after one of his surgeries; he had very short, and very wide legs, and when we got him home from the hospital, they had become like tourniquets, and I actually had to cut them off! From then on, any time he went in the hospital, esp. for surgery, I would write “No TEDs” on his feet with a Sharpie pen! The wrap-up circulating air things worked just fine for him, though.

  4. Anne, you and your siblings are beautiful. I love this photo. You do not look miserable even though you were sick 🤧
that creation at Singapore airport is amazing, incredible, all of those tiles and shiny solder, and the flowers and the garden. Just wow, I would miss my flight!
Now I want to go to Whinfell Quarry gardens. It looks like a fairy garden.
Thank you for sharing your pictures and I hope you have more!!

  5. Joy in northern CA

What a great picture of Anne, John, and Jan. Definitely a family resemblance there. And what a trooper is Anne, with that cold and looking so perky. Amazing. The Singapore airport should be a destination by itself. So intriguing. And the Whinfell Quarry looks like a spectacular place. Love that it is maintained by volunteers. Gorgeous enchanted pool. So glad you were able to visit there.
Here, no volunteers helping with weeding, unless you can count Callie cat who appears to have taken over the yard and flops down right where I’m trying to work. I did get another can filled late yesterday. Much cooler and easier to work without the heat. Looks like the cherry tomatoes are ready to start picking and hopefully, we’ll see some zinnia blooms soon.
Thanks Jeanne for sharing the fun pics.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

We’ve had so many cherry tomatoes this year that we eat them like candy. They are sweet enough. I make a “salad” of cucumbers and cherry tomatoes almost every night. I hope yours are as successful.

      1. Joy in northern CA

Anticipation awaits for them around here. Other person checks them daily and reports on the color. Our cukes are not doing well at all, but the zukes look good. So glad that you have had success with your crop. 🙂

    2. Charlotte Trayer

I love zinnias, Joy! When I was growing up, my mom had a huge garden, mostly veggies but I think she had some glads, also. My brother and I each got a “row” to plant whatever we wanted. I always picked zinnias, because they are so colorful and cheery. However, the gardening gene must not have taken root, because I would rather stay inside and sew or read!!

  6. Susette from Southern California

Like Marilyn, I haven’t been heard from much either in the last month or so. I had pacemaker extraction and replacement surgery on May 29th but recovering well. I enjoyed Charlotte’s pictures and stories about Michigan and seeing the beautiful sweater and bonnet for the darling baby. Gotta love Hello Kitty socks. What a wonderful time you had! And Anne visiting after not seeing folks for such a long time. What a lot of relatives to catch up with, Anne, and a lovely picture of you and your brother and sister. Thanks to both for sending pictures and travel tales to enjoy vicariously!

    1. Charlotte Trayer

Thank you, Susette; I’m glad you enjoyed my pictures. I did have a wonderful trip–would have been happy to have had it last twice as long!! But….duty called, and I needed to get back to the piano at church!

I’m glad your pacemaker replacement went well. Back in the early 70s, when my grandfather had one, the things were huge (comparatively)! You could definitely see it working beneath his chest wall. When Ron had his some years ago, it was so very much smaller and although I could see where it was, it wasn’t very noticeable, and certainly not thru his clothes. Every time he had a pacer check, he would laugh when the techs told him how many more years the battery would last, because he knew he wouldn’t be around that long. I think he did live longer than he expected, though.

Anyway, I’m glad to see you back on the sofa with us!

  7. So nice to see your pictures, Anne. Happy that you have a picture of you and your siblings together.
Beautiful airport for sure! Makes it easier for waiting passengers with beauty to look at.
All I can add is: hope this blasted hot humid weather is over!!!!!! I’m about ready to move to Antarctica!
    Dreaming of fall and winter!

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

So I’m not the only one counting the days until summer is over, but I’m not sure I’m ready for Antarctica. Don’t like the intense heat but not fond of intense cold either. I will be taking Sean and his family to a local waterpark on July 16. Looking forward to it but I know it will be horribly hot. I had to get it in before the grandkids went to church camp at the end of July and before school starts in August since it seems to be earlier each year. I rent a cabana so I can stay out of the sun as much as possible and my swimwear is from head to toe. The sun here is so different than where I was raised I worry it’s too much for me now that I’m getting older. But every time I see a cute swimsuit I long for the days I could wear one like that. But a hot summer day where I was raised is usually about 86 rather than the 96+ here.

      1. Charlotte Trayer

OH, yes, Barbara–cute swimsuits, and also cute shoes! We didn’t know when we had it so good!! I really miss my cute shoes….

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

What a lovely family picture. You look quite perky, Anne, for having traveled non-stop for so long not to mention you were under the weather. I agree that the Singapore Airport would make a travel destination in itself. I know the layover was hard on you but it gave you the opportunity to not only see but enjoy such a wonderful display. Whinfell Quarry gardens is beautiful. The volunteers do an amazing job. It is so important to have volunteers when funding is scare or unavailable. My hubby used to work for the Forest Service in Colorado during summers while he was in college. His job was clearing trails. When funding was cut back the trails were not tended to adding to forest fire danger. The assistance of volunteers was very much needed. As for your cold problem. Changing climates is bad for that. When i visited my sister in West Virginia a couple years ago in October it was still hot here but they were getting freezing temps in the morning. I got the worst cold ever. Fortunately it was in my head only but it knocked the stuffings out of me and made our visit to Tennessee not much fun for me. When I first moved to Texas from Delaware I was sick a lot until I got used to the change and I was in my early twenties then.

Grandson Skyy is here today tidying up my front garden – again. So good to be able to have him do this for me – not to mention Nanna pays well. It’s worth it to me not to have to get out in the heat let alone kneel down to do it.

  9. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

So nice to see Anne in person and with her brother and sister. I hope your cold is gone by now, Anne, but you look fine in the photo! The Singapore display is gorgeous, and the garden looks like one I would love to walk through. Thank you for sharing.

I am still going though so much doll stuff. It is all over the guest room and sewing room. I tried selling some doll shoes on fb but the small amounts that were picked weren’t worth the effort for packing and mailing. I deleted it and will make bags of shoes for MDCC’s Helper Room where members can buy tickets to try to win doll things.

I am so sorry to hear that Marilyn and Susette’s health problems. I do hope all is well soon.

Barbara, i am with you in the sun shine problem. I am glad you are doing what you can to keep from burning! Growing up with my red head skin and spending summers in the water at the beach or pool I was a mass of freckles, and a peeling nose. I cover myself head to toe now in boats or in the water, just as you are soon. I know the kids will love your taking them there.

  10. Laura in Ohio

So very nice to see you, Anne, and there’s no doubt that you and Jan are sisters, I’m sure is was an absolutely delight to finally be together again with her and your brother, John. You look just great after 36 hours of traveling and a cold to boot.
The Singapore airport is amazing. The orchids are lovely. How nice to have a garden in an airport.
The Whinfell Quarry gardens are beautiful.
I hope each day of your trip continues to be special and filled with wonderful things.

  11. Dorothy in PA and the World
