HI everyone,
I hope you had a nice day… I was busy making “something” for my sewing room… and it took me LONGER than I ever dreamed it would… I’ll share it soon… I used a ton of interfacing… the stiff kind and LOTS of thread… I think I rewound my bobbin 5 times. It was pretty much a “fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants” kind of project!
Recently we’ve heard about Barbara’s granddaughter, Jaiden, and her first try in the National American Miss pageant and today I have pictures to share with you! How sweet she looks!
Take it away Barbara!
Jeanne, here are a few pictures of Jaiden’s foray into the pageant world if you want to use them for filler some time. While she didn’t win, she definitely was willing to play the game. If she decides to do this again next year, she will know better what she is up against – not to mention she will be a year older. We’re very proud of her for being brave enough to go for it.
Barbara
What a sweetheart she is, Barbara! I bet you are as proud as any grandma can be!!! Congratulations Jaiden… you are a living doll… and I know a thing or two about dolls!!! *wink* *wink*
See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well hello everyone, I seem to be first again today.
Thanks for all your lovely comments about the photos, I really will send some more soon.
I usually go via Singapore when I come to UK. Last time was 2019 and I was with Sam and Ashley. we actually had a stopover that time. There are orchids everywhere (well, everywhere there are tourists). This display was in Terminal 3, where I landed. I left from Terminal 2 and there wasn’t an orchid insight! There is also a butterfly garden at T3 but it is only open in daylight (they have to sleep) and I was only there at night this time. I might be able to see it on the way home.
We will probably still go to Plymouth on Saturday, Joanna (my niece) is a doctor so will probably tell us if she thinks we shouldn’t go to see Aunty Sylvia with our coughs. I’m sure we will be much better by then. I promise I will take photos this time. I have never been to Devon (or Cornwall) so really looking forward to it.
Barbara, Jaden looks lovely thank you for sharing the photos.
I will have to look back tomorrow to see all your comments
Oh, what a wonderful treat it would be, to have a butterfly garden at the airport! I do hope you will be able to see it (and take pictures!) on your way back to NZ!
Anne, what fun to go to Cornwall. I have read wonderful books and also tv set in there. I would love to see your photos there!
I do hope you will be much better and also that you will get to visit your Aunt. I am really enjoying your trip!!
How interesting one terminal has a beautiful orchid display but not the other. We have a butterfly garden in Houston but I have never been. Must put that on my Bucket List. Doubt I’ll ever see the one in Singapore.
Thanks for your nice comment on my granddaughter. She is my only granddaughter (I have three grandsons) so I enjoy sharing special moments like this with her.
Barbara, thank you for sharing your pictures. Jaiden is a lovely young lady, and I think she chose her dresses well. I particularly like that last one.
Dazzle is quite full of herself tonight–not only did she get to go out for lunch with mommy and Aunt Marika (and April and Annie) but she got a package from Aunt Jeanne in the mail today!! There will be no living with that little girl now!! (laugh).
Charlotte, do tell Dazzle that we are looking forward to see her in her “package from Aunt Jeanne”!!
Hope that you can get a pic of Dazzle to share. I’m sure that she is Dazzling. 🙂
Looking forward to seeing Dazzle model her new wearing attire from the I Dream of Jeanne Marie collection. I know she will look adorable. I was thinking dazzling but Joy beat me to it.
Barbara, what a lovely granddaughter you have! She is, what, only 14 or so? She certainly carries herself well and looks very confident! Yes, that last picture is wonderful, and the one before that shows her pretty face! Kudos to her for trying out, and she should go far the next time!
Anne, how lovely to hear about the Singapore airport once again! I wish we in the states had more of natural beautiy in ours, but most seem to work like cattle cars here with people moving in lines and trying to get somewhere. We need to stop and smell the flowers!
I certainly hope that your cough is gone so that you can see your aunt! I am looking forward to seeing more pictures!
Thanks for the lovely comment on Jaiden, Linda. She is 13. Her birthday is New Year’s Eve so she won’t be 14 for another six months. She is tall but when she was among all the other contestants on stage she looked absolutely petite. Of course many of them had on higher heels than she did but were also a year or more older than she. There were only two or three thirteen-year-olds in the pageant.
Barbara, Ashley, my youngest grandchild will be 14 on 29th December. She was due on New Years Day but because Sam had had an emergency Caesar with Jono they felt it was advisable to have surgery this time. They prefer to do that one week earlier but that was Christmas day so they scheduled it for 29th.
Here you definitely want to have a child late in the year. You get the tax deduction without having the expenses all year. My niece was born on January 1 so her parents didn’t get the tax perk but she was the first baby born in the city so they got a lot of goodies.
Barbara, What fun to see Jaiden’s photos. She is a brave young lady! She looks so grown up and happy to be there. Her poses are lovely. I know you must be so proud of her. Thank you for sharing and I hope to see her again next year!
Thanks for your sweet comment on Jaiden. Yes she was very brave and the fact that most of the girls were older than she is did not seem to faze her. We are very proud of her for giving the pageant a try since this was a huge step out of the box for her.
Well, my sewing room and guest room are covered in dolls and doll clothes.
I got out my Kish Riley’s yesterday and can’t believe many tiny clothes and shoes I found in the box! I will be taking a LOT of photos and putting them on FB along with many other sizes of Kish doll clothes. All this photographing and packing up any that sell is a lot of work, but we need the $ for Peyton’s hospital bill and my back shot bills. Also we are having some windows replaced, the salt water gets to things. We still count our blessing, though, God is good!
Happy Day to you all.
Jealous of all of your energy and work with the dolls and clothes. That’s what I should be doing, but not happening. I’d rather be working outside and can’t get it together. I wish you great success on your sales.
Thank you, Joy, I used to be rather working outside, but the age and back trouble has slowed me down. Also I have had to remove 5 ticks last spring, not fun. I do work in the yard on Saturday, the day I wash my hair and get it fixed for Sunday. I have to wear a lot of clothes and spray them before I get busy out there. One hour is about what I can do.
Two things we don’t have in the area we live in are scorpions and ticks. The scorpions don’t like our humidity but they do exist further north of us. The only time we had trouble with ticks was where we used to live and some people brought in some logs for their fireplace. It was loaded with ticks and they infested the whole neighborhood. We had to have our yard treated and our dog dipped more than once. When we moved we had our dog dipped before we moved him to the new place. We were glad tick surveillance was finally off our to-do list.
Good morning dear friends! it is drizzling rain here and humid.
I am not sure what the weather will be today but it looks gloomy.
Jeanne, you are up to something in your sewing room and I am really interested in what that is! 5 bobbin refills!
Are you making a tent? Just kidding… really
Barbara, your dear grand daughter Jaiden is beautiful What a beautiful name too. I love these glam shots, She looks confident and bright!
I rented a van for tomorrow from Home Depot (we call it Homie Depo bc it is just 😆) and we are gonna try some antics here to move our beds (two twin extra long) in it and some other things and yep as much as we can remember.
WE are renting early, so if you do not hear from me tomorrow, hopefully I can update you on the adventure on Friday, okay? My dear daughter is in Richmond 3 house away and she is very worried hahaha haha I think we will do great.
🚨Do you have ticks in your area? This morning hubbs announced he had a tiny tick on him. So, without coffee or feeding kitty Princess, I removed it. It was a very tiny tick and those are the ones that concern me the most.
Enjoy this lovely day dear ones
Egads, those ticks seem to be everywhere this year. Did you save the tick to have it analyzed? They do it for free at the health department here to see if it is carrying Lime. The doctor may also want to start antibiotics anyway. I would definitely check in.
Rosemary, I had 5 tiny ticks in the spring. I put Benadrill lotion on them before using the tweezers and it also helps with the itching.
Good luck on the big move tomorrow!
My daughter lives in Maine and says they have a terrible tick problem. They have to check themselves before they go in the house if they have been walking their property.
I wonder what is Jeanne making now? Stiff interfacing and lots of thread? Is it to hold something like rolls of heavy fabric or leather? Very curious.
Wow, Jaiden is such a cutie. Love her look. My favorite pic is the one in the tee and jeans. It is so natural and perfect. I’m sure she will win if she tries it again. I think she is around the age of our oldest grand. He’s 14. How old is Jaiden? I forget.
Sure hope that Anne, is able to see her aunt. Maybe to even see or talk to her through a window? Like was done during Covid?
Managed to get some more yard work done yesterday. Never enough time though. I think the next project is to fix the fence in a few places. Always something
Thanks for your nice comment on Jaiden. She is 13 and won’t be 14 until New Year’s Eve. My birthday is 12/26 and I hoped she would be born on my birthday, so I tease Dionne all the time that she made sure she wasn’t. It’s even easier to tease her when her youngest,, Azure, was born on her birthday. Blue jeans and a t-shirt is usually how she dresses. Maybe a hoodie if it’s cool out. Seeing her dressed up is unusual. In that picture she looks so much like her mother. I don’t notice it so much when I see them in person but in pictures I sure can see the resemblance.
Jaiden looks so pretty, Barbara, and seems to be very confident. I’m glad it turn out to be a fun experience for her despite her initial apprehension. I’m sure she will win something if she does it again next year.
It’s good to encourage kids to try new things. My daughter enjoyed participating in our states’ string music festival the three years she was age eligible and loved being chosen first violinist for two of the years and playing a solo as well. It gave extra self confidence beyond recitals and playing often at church.
Thanks so much for your nice comment on Jaiden. I don’t think she lacks confidence but what drives her parents crazy is her lack of “stick to it”. She says she wants to do something so they get her what she needs and then she loses interest (i.e., she just had to have a guitar, but it now collects dust). I think she may need lessons but right now they don’t have the money and we are helping out in other areas so we don’t either.
Watching our children develop their talents is a lot of fun. I always wanted to play the violin. How wonderful your daughter did so well with it. Schools now provide music lessons but that wasn’t the case when I was growing up. If your parents couldn’t afford the lessons, you just didn’t get to do it. My two stepdaughters learned their instruments at school. One played the trombone and the other the flute.
Our daughter was always a go-getter. She even asked if she could be in the high school play when she was in junior high. She was told no but to make sure she got involved when in high school. She sure did. She was involved in speech and drama all through high school. She won many awards in speech and in drama in her junior year she was Best Actress at district and area but missed on regionals because Romeo and Juliet won best actor and actress but went on to win Best Actress at State. Her senior year she took Best Actress on all four levels. Both years were difficult plays. We never had to motivate her.
Sean was not as active at school because he chose sports and there was too much nepotism in this town, so people got to play because their father and grandfather had participated not necessarily because they were good at it. So Sean was discouraged. But when he was in first grade I watched how he was interested in watching Andrea’s dance recitals and when I took him to see “The Nutcracker” he was entranced. So I asked him if he wanted to take dancing. He said yes so he did that all during his years in school and then did some musical theater with local theater groups after. For a few years Andrea and Sean were in the same dancing class. One of my favorite pictures is of them together in their costumes for the “Phantom of the Opera” dance. Sean being the only boy was of course the Phantom wearing a black cape I made and looking quite dashing. The girls’ costumes were beautiful black and white dresses. Since it is assumed boys don’t dance, when I had the picture in my office people always asked why I had a picture of Andrea but not of Sean. They are surprised when I tell them it is a picture of both of them.
Jaiden is still in middle school but talks of being interested in drama so we’re hoping maybe she’ll give it a try when she gets to high school. Skyy is into soccer at the moment. Sean would have loved that but we had no soccer team in our school when he was there. Since we never had a soccer team there would have been no nepotism there. They do now thanks to the Hispanic influence in the town. Wish it would have happened sooner.
I really can’t wait to see what you are concocting in your sewing room. I can’t even imagine what it is.
Thanks so much for posting my pictures of Jaiden. I will be glad to pass on the lovely comments from her Sofa aunties. I looked again at the pictures and while the one in the jeans and t-shirt does look a lot like her mom the pose in the long dress looks a lot like me when I was young. Dionne did an age progression on Jaiden’s face one time and it looked exactly like I do now. We were surprised.
I forgot to mention our lunch at Rainforest Cafe at the mall the day we were looking for a dress for Jaiden. When she and Skyy were much younger we took them there for lunch. Skyy was okay with it but Jaiden was terrified. This time we had Azure (4) about the same age they were then. He was fascinated. He couldn’t get enough of all the stuff going on and kept asking Skyy to go with him for up close and personal looks at all the animals, etc. He didn’t even flinch when the rainforest storm started with all the thunder and lightning. The restaurant is pretty pricey so we can’t do it often but I was so glad I decided to go for it that day. Azure’s reaction was priceless.
Dear Barbara, thanks for sharing the photos of the lovely Jaiden. Tell her that Pennsylvania is rooting for her, especially “Auntie Dorothy”!
Dorothy, thanks for the sweet comment on Jaiden. I will definitely tell her that Pennsylvania is rooting for her and that her Auntie Dorothy is leading the cheer squad. I hope she does try the pageant again. She will be a year more mature by that time and not as tentative. She found it difficult to look at the judges when walking across the stage. It was her first time in heels and while they weren’t very high I think she was afraid of tripping.
I lost my previous comment to you so I’ll try again. Thanks so much for the sweet comment on Jaiden. She gets lovelier every year. When she was little she was very outgoing and used to walk into restaurants waving at everyone (the pageant wave). They would all wave back. Today she is a little more reserved. I will definitely tell her that Pennsylvania is rooting for her with her Auntie Dorothy leading the cheering section. I do hope she gives the pageant another try next year. She will be a year more mature and more confident. This year she had trouble making eye contact with the judges as she walked across the state. It was her first time wearing heels and I think she was afraid of tripping.
One more thing to love about NZ, no ticks!
