Thankful for another day with my hubby!

Hi everyone,
It’s 10:03 Wednesday night and I’m so tired, I can’t even read your comments from yesterday. I will have to leave that for tomorrow. It was a long day trip to St. Louis for another surgery for my hubby. It’s over now and the doctor gave us a good report and said we could come home. We have to go back in a month to make sure what he did is working and then we’ll be in the clear, but we are SO thankful for how the Lord gave wisdom to this doctor in making this tricky, but necessary, surgery a success!! He is a wonderful doctor!!! I had George’s sister-in-law sitting with me while we waited during the surgery and was so thankful for Gloria taking time to be with me. I Love you, Gloria!

I had so many people texting me and calling me on the way up to St. Louis, that I never had time to look at what you all were doing today! Since I was the driver on the way home, so I couldn’t look at my phone then either. I’ll have to see what you all were up to yesterday and see who got what accomplished.

You’ll want to come back for tomorrow’s post because Dorothy in PA and the World sent me pictures and a link to a “Museum” she and her Doll Club went to…

But….today I am going to do “Open Mic” as Rush Limbaugh used to call it… on Friday’s he would let the callers call in on his radio show and talk about anything they wanted… that’s what I’ll do… leave it open and you all can talk about anything you want… ask a question, tell what you are working on, tell about a good book you’re reading, tell a joke, ask for an opinion on something you are sewing, tell what YOU are thankful for, just anything you want… because I am too tired to think of anything else right now…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I so glad to hear that yesterday went well, and thank goodness for Gloria, to be there with you! She is a gem! Yes, waiting seems like the worst part of anything, and to have someone with you makes the time go by faster, especially if it’s family!

Today is a ā€œ nothingā€ day for me of you can call it that! No appointments, no shopping or running around! Yay! However, there is plenty to do here and once the day warms up, I will head outside to do things in the yard. We have had two days of terribly windy weather, so we have small branches, sticks and leaves scattered all over the yard. Plus it is just good to get outside and enjoy some ā€œrealā€ fall weather!

It was fun to read all about others Halloween decorations outside and I was wondering if some of you would send a picture of your decorations so we could admire them. I don’t really do Halloween, but do fall, so I will send a picture of my outside decorations. Nothing spectacular, but if I invited everyone over you would be able to see them anyway.

Back in 2021 during COVID when David had his heart surgery (January) and his two knee surgeries (November and December) only one person was allowed in the waiting room for each patient. So I had to wait alone. Thankfully I had a list of people I was in contact with on my phone and they kept checking in making the waiting easier.

I wondered if today was George’s surgery; have been praying for you both, and I’m glad it all went well. Now I pray for a restful sleep for you so you can recover!

I will first comment on some things from yesterday’s comments! Then I have a bit of news.

Sissy, I loved your “Still Still Still” comment! I played it on handbells years ago, when I was in a bell choir, and have always loved it.

Barbara, I don’t think it’s going to be permanent. Daniel has an appointment up in Everett tomorrow and when I talked to him about getting back to join us at IHOP, he wasn’t sure. So, maybe there has been a reconciliation???

Rosemary, I do know how to play the organ, but the organ our church has was built for someone Much taller than I am! The music rack is too high, the keyboards are a little high, also, and there is no hope of my ever reaching the pedal board without contorting myself into an uncomfortable position! However, a couple of years ago I did play the organ at my dad’s former church (the organ my Mother used to play every Sunday!) for a friend’s funeral. I didn’t use the pedal board, but I did use both keyboards–separately, however. I set one with stops (it’s a pipe organ) for the congregational singing and another, with softer stops, for prelude/postlude music. The lady’s daughter was so pleased, as the organ had not been used there for many years, and they brought a tuner in to get the pipes in order and the blower motor working properly. I have to say, it sounded pretty good after all those years!

Cheryl, my Gigi probably has all the “Jeanne Marie” outfits your Ten Ping does not have!! She thinks everything aunty Jeanne makes should be hers, especially if it’s pink!! šŸ˜‚

So, my announcement. I had my annual eye exam yesterday, and he discovered that I am developing macular degeneration in both eyes. NOT what I wanted to hear! I was stunned. Of course, I now have a list of questions but at the time, I couldn’t think of anything. For those unaware, it’s the breaking down of the macula in the back of the eye, and it’s the central area of vision that is affected, first with blurriness. So far, I have not noticed that, at least not to any degree that I can recall. I don’t know what kind it is, but am praying it is the “dry” kind, which is much slower. With all my sewing, needlework, reading, pencil puzzles, and, of course, playing the piano, I really Need that part of my vision!!

    1. Charlotte, thank you for sharing your organ experience. Wow, in my dreams I am a pianist and organist. What a dream talent. I can read music and play the piano but not so great anymore. I still have my piano in our new house here Kawaii baby grand, and I play it about 2 hours a week.. šŸ™

I have a macular “pucker” in both of my eyes. I think it is kind of the same, but different. My distance vision is nearly perfect. My vision for reading music and fine sewing is getting kind of fuzzy. I can machine sew with out glasses, but I usually wear them,.
I truly hope yours is very slow or “stable”. My retinologist Dr Osman says mine is stable. I am not sure if either of these retinal situations are similar?

Well, join the macular club. I also have Macular Degeneration with both wet and dry types. I particularly had my DNA done some years ago so I knew that I had three variants for macular. My father had it and his sister as well. They lived to 94 and 99 although my aunt was blind by then. Now, my older cousin has it and then two years ago, me. I was surprised to get it so young, mid 70’s, as my relatives were in their 80’s when it first hit them. At this point, I have eye shots every eight weeks. Used to be monthly, but I have graduated. šŸ™‚ That is about the only thing they have available right now that helps the progression. But, there are always new studies and hopefully, someone will discover another treatment at some point. I can still drive and do most things. Sewing has become a bit more difficult, but not so much that I’ve given it up. šŸ™‚ The eye people often do not refer patients to a medical specialist early enough. I would suggest that you demand to see one and soon. Keeping an eye on it and waiting until it gets worse is not what I recommend. I have eye scans several times a year that show the progression as well as my 8 week eye specialist doctor exams. I do take the eye vitamins which are recommended by my doctor specialist and use Refresh eye drops several times a day. It’s not the end of the world, but adjustments do need to be made. My excuse for not keeping up on housework is that I can’t see the dust. šŸ™‚

Oh, No, Charlotte! I pray that your eyes will remain well as long as possible. I am so very sorry to hear that you have that coming. I know it must have been a real shock! I have complained about my eyes having trouble with car lights even after cataracts were removed. That is nothing to compare what you may be going through. God bless you1

  3. Jeanne and George, I am so so happy you are home safe. Both of you were in my prayers and on my mind all day.
I am relieved the trip was smooth and you had an army of support.
I hope today is a good day to rest and recover.

I sewed leaves all day yesterday, with a few breaks to clean up some things, vacuum a carpet, many cornish rex kitty Princess snuggles. I jumped ahead with the breeze blocks and thought the fabric was disappearing sort of, so that is back on, as I hope to just make those blocks with the light color anyway.
I know it was pretty outside. I could have taken a shortie bike ride, but I did not.
Hubbs met with the tree guy at the old house and we will get an estimate today probably.
Today I go to my new club “craft and chat” I will continue binding a quilt, I might bring some leaf samples.
I hope all of you have a pleasant day. When I get into one of these sew alongs, I am so focused I do forget to do other things.
    Love, Rosemary

  4. Oh, I forgot to add, I loved Rush Limbaugh and I am sad he is not around anymore. He always had me laughing.
I know he is safe with our God in Heaven

Well, my morning started with my favorite breakfast, made by my sweet Peyton. I managed to turn my juice over on my self, the table and the floor. Fortunately my plate did not get wet. All is in the wash now. I hope the rest of my day will be better. We hope to go visit our neighbor, the one whose husband just died.

Jeanne, it is such a relief to know that George’s surgery is over and well done. I know I am not the only one here on the sofa that has been really concerned this week. Prayers will continue for you both.

When there wasn’t an update on George, yesterday, I started to worry. So very happy that his operation was successful. Yay George. And wonderful that Gloria, was able to go along to keep you company. What a very long day for everyone but with a happy ending.
Here, other person did some more railing painting. I’ve found that it is impossible to paint at the same time, I’m a lone painter, so I moved ladders and sawhorses and ended up pulling out the rest of the emerging weeds in the front planter. The finished deck board looks good, but there is more painting to do on deck rails which will get done as time allows.
I did not get to much sewing yesterday, but am working on doing some tiny pleats on a black skirt for one of the Ruby Reds. I’m a glutton for punishment with that black fabric.
I finally received a notice yesterday morning that my package was actually going to be delivered some time yesterday. I’d been watching tracking since it left the warehouse in China. Exciting. But, without a time frame, I had no idea of exactly when the arrival would be. I was checking something on the computer, well looking for a minute at a doll outfit, when I thought that I heard some truck noise. Other person was out painting on the deck at the time. So, I went to the front door and opened it, expecting to find black tuxedo cat, Charlotte, wanting a snack. To my utter surprise, there standing on the mat, was a double doll box. Without hesitation, I grabbed the box and quickly whisked it away to my secret hiding spot. Other person, still painting on the deck hadn’t heard a thing. So, my special twosome are still in their boxes awaiting some alone time to be unboxed. Can’t wait to see the girls, Ruby Red, Ruth and Esther. šŸ™‚

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your new family members. I don’t know about them so I’ll wait to see your pictures rather than look them up.

    2. Yahoo – the twins showed up and are safe now in the secret place. I’ll have to look the twins up as I’m not sure I’ve seen them.

  7. Jeanne, I’m so happy for you and George. Great news! Now you both need to rest up. Mentally and physically.
Today I cleaned window sills – just in our bedroom and bathroom – I’ll alternate with other windows in other rooms – just knowing I can keep them clean even though no one sees them makes me feel good. Doesn’t take much to make me happy!! 🤪

Going to treat myself to a puzzle The She Shed. In fact, I have working on a room that will be my ā€œ She Shed.ā€ Kind of my latest project. Gives me inspiration! My husband is happy for me since he now has his own pool table! šŸ˜‚ He’s and his friends have a fun time.

    Everyone, have a great day!!

As soon as I could I rushed to my computer hoping to hear good news about George. So thankful all went well for him and I’m sure it was a relief to you, which is probably one of the reasons you are so tired. Your adrenalin has crashed and that can be exhausting. What a blessing he has such a wonderful doctor.

I was so sorry to hear about the eye problems so many of my sofa sisters are having. I’m overdue for an exam but will be doing it soon. We used to be able to do walk-ins but no more and every time I wanted to set up an appointment something else came up. David went last Saturday and all is well with him. Thankfully when he had shingles they did not get in his eye just around it. Last time I went all was well with me but at this stage of life I don’t take my vision for granted. I have dry eye and that is annoying enough.

My two sisters have glaucoma issues but they are my half-sisters and it looks like it may run in their dad’s family. Not too sure because once their dad and my mother separated, we never heard from his family again. I don’t know of anyone in my mother’s family that has had eye problems, except for the muscle issues several of us have had requiring surgery but did not affect our vision. That genetic problem seems to have died out since nothing has shown up now for three generations.

My paternal grandmother lived to be 92 with seemingly no health issues. My biological father was not in my life but I cannot find a death date for him and I’m sure by now he has passed away. Except for me he had no other children so I guess no one has done much genealogy on him.

I am amazed at how much sewing is going on in spite of eye issues. I have enough trouble just dealing with horrible close-up vision. I have a pair of cheaters in every room and my purse. I used to sew for hours but these days it’s not as relaxing as it once was because close-up vision for sewing and needlework is so important. I have a friend who does counted cross stitch. If there are small stitches, she uses one of those lights you put on your head and then her close-up glasses. She says it works well but I haven’t tried it yet. I just don’t seem to do those types of projects these days, but I really need to do whatever it takes to make that happen since I did love doing things like smocking and hand embroidery.

Hopefully the weather people are correct and we will be getting a lot of rain along with a front Saturday. When Sean and I were returning from lunch there were several fire trucks that passed us. Three were the trucks they send out for brush fires along with a larger fire truck. Not surprising since we haven’t had any rain here in over a month and everything is totally dry. We’re under a burn ban at the moment so hopefully nothing serious is going on.

Dear Jeanne, I am so happy to hear your good news. I hope you and George will both be able to rest quietly for the next few days. Prayers continue.

Now, here is my comment in reply to your request. I decided to go with trivia. I looked around on Google to see what historical significance this day might hold. Sorry if this sounds a bit scholarly but I thought it was interesting.

Gertrude Ederle, the daughter of immigrant parents from Germany, was born on this day in 1905 in New York City. She has the distinction of being the first woman to swim the English Channel. This feat was accomplished on August 6, 1926. She clocked in at 14 hours and 39 minutes. When she returned home, the city heralded her with a ticker-tape parade.

Another New Yorker, Ellie Greenwich, was born on this day in Brooklyn in 1940. After graduating from college she met record producer Phil Spector. She wrote or co-wrote a series of hits, to which Baby Boomers surely would have danced. These songs include: Be My Baby, Da Doo Ron Ron, And Then He Kissed Me, Chapel of Love, and Leader of the Pack.

And finally, I would like to share that the First National Women’s Rights Convention was held on this day in 1850 in Worchester, Massachusetts. There were some 1,000 people in attendance. The focus of the gathering was to promote the idea of women gaining the right to vote. Unfortunately the women attending this convention would not see their efforts rewarded as it took 70 years before the 19th amendment to the US Constitution was ratified in 1920 and women were awarded privilege of voting. We are truly grateful to these pioneering ā€œforemothersā€ who worked so hard to insure women today would be empowered. I am guessing that they were sitting on someone’s ā€œsofaā€ and encouraging each other during their lifetimes.

Sorry, this is so long. I hope something here grabs your attention.

I loved this Dorothy. I love history and always love when something new is added to what I know. I remember my daughter was going on about women voting one time. I reminded her that my grandmother could vote. Then I realized what I was saying. I was only the third generation of women who could vote when so many had tried for so long. But even then when my mother went to buy furniture she had to have a husband sign for it. When I moved to Texas and went to get a credit card from a major department store they wanted my husband to sign for it. I thought that was ridiculous and told them to forget it. When I applied for a job after we moved here they asked me how long I had been married. Huh? I said two years. I was told I couldn’t be hired because I might get pregnant and quit. That was about 1969. By the time I went to work for Shell in 1975 I worked with a woman who was a floater (worked in different areas but not permanently placed). She would be placed permanently in a job if she came back after she had her baby, which she intended to. No questions asked. We came a long way by the 19th Amendment but obviously still had a ways to go.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, I am glad you liked my comments. We have come a long way and we are fortunate to have had women before us who cleared the path.

I have a friend who had a similar experience with a credit card many years ago. She had a store credit card and when she got married she wanted to add her husband’s name. The store re-issued the card in the husband’s name and deleted hers!

      2. Charlotte Trayer

Barbara, in 1974, when I was about to get married, I went into the local Penney’s and asked how to get my credit card switched to my married name. The lady at the counter asked if my husband had his own Penney’s card, and I said yes, and she said, “just add your name to his, dear”. I thanked her and left. The next time I sent in my Penney’s payment, I wrote my new name and address in the place indicated, and they sent me a new card in my married name–and still in my OWN account!!

Dorothy, when I wanted to go back to teaching after my sons were older I was 40 years old and it was 1980. I called the male principal for a interview and he was not interested. He actually told me that he wanted only a man. I probably could have gone high upper with it, but I didn’t. The man who did hire me wanted younger women and made me wait to the last minute before I was hired. He didn’t get that younger woman that year instead of me.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Sissy, it is so sad that you were discriminated against because you are a woman. I am glad that you were able to get a job that you liked.

    3. Charlotte Trayer

Thanks for all the interesting information, Dorothy! Those songs were all popular when I was in high school (early 60s), and I probably know all the words to all of them!!

I guess you get to read two comments by me today. One totally disappeared but I had saved what I’d written before lunch so I didn’t have to do the whole thing again. For the most part they are the same. But I couldn’t totally remember what I added since lunch in the first one I tried to send.
