Tees and Totes

Hi everyone,
Mae’s dress, or actually ANY 15″ MOPPETS dress ends this evening on Ebay! Mae has been out of the dress for a few days and has been sleeping in the dolly cabinet. I hope she’s still sleeping when it sells, so when she wakes up, I can tell her it has already been shipped to some other little Moppet, and they were SO happy to win it! I hope she’ll understand. If you’d like to take one last look at the auction on Ebay, you can click the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE.

A friend asked me to go with her to pick out some new glasses (and hit a few shops while we were out.) She found the cutest pair and then we decided to celebrate by having lunch! We had the best burgers and then hit this one new place we hadn’t been to before. She found this tee shirt for me and said I “HAD” to get it. I think it sums me up pretty well… I’m not ALL about fabric, but I do think about fabric a lot… what might look good on which doll, how it feels, how it drapes, how does the scale work for the size doll I’m making it for, how clear are the colors, how will the fabric photograph, and so I guess I DO think about fabric a lot! Oh well, here’s my new tee shirt…

I received this email from Rosemary and wanted to share it with everyone. It makes a really cute tote bag… and could be resized for whatever size doll you wanted.

Hi everybody! I got a cool bag!

This is the pdf for a bag I got for free on Sew can She. com
This is pretty close to how I made the bag, the main construction. I did not have this pattern with me when I examined the Vera Bradley bag (from Target) two weeks ago to make a copy, but with the skills learned from making the clutch bag from Noodlehead, it was simple, just a tiny course. I dug around and found some “junky” test fabrics to make this first bag.
Here is the link to the Noodlehead tutorial: https://blog.noodle-head.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html This is a pattern to make a small bag with a zipper. The installation of the zipper is the key skill to take from this tutorial
I had to do some unsewing a few times to add the handles because I was initially just focused on getting the layers right. Another annoyance is that this zipper is an old Coats and Clark and very tight and hard to budge! I got some YKK zippers at Hobby Lobby. (super cheap $1.40?)

Here is the PDF file Rosemary sent… with complete directions…

The VB bag has the outer side and lining each as one piece of fabric, which results in no way to hide the inside seams. The vera Bradley seams are just connected, sewn together using thick bias tape.
Perhaps that was a chunky feature they were aiming for.

As with Noodlehead’s pattern, I understand that construction process and could have finished the inner seams. I did not do that with this prototype because I wanted to share the result -seam at the lining at the bottom or not – however with a seam in the lining (at the bottom), you are able to sew together the sides and the boxed corners before turning it all right side out. I hope you like the pictures. I plan to make more. This is a really fun bag to make.

This is the machine I use at present. It is straight stitch Singer 301A. I cannot explain why I have my rotary cutter sitting at my machine!

Love, Rosemary
Here is a picture of me, next to my beloved… carrot cake 🥕😄

Thank you Rosemary! It was so fun to see your face… now we’ll have a picture in our heads of what you look like when you are chatting with us. That is a really cute little tote bag and great that you sent the directions along with your pictures!
Thanks so much!

See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
