No power… but 2 pictures…

Happy Friday everyone,
This will be a short post as we had really strong winds and downpours off and on for the last couple of hours. We just lost power and I can’t use my iron or my sewing machine… or even see what I’m doing without lights. So I’m having to quit.

I was in the middle of sewing on a ribbon at the neckline and used a flashlight for these 2 pictures. The color looks perfect so maybe that will give you a better idea of how pretty the fabric really is.

So there you go… I guess I’ll see you on Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, I love the pique for the collar and cuffs on the dress! And the ribbon looks really close in color to some of the parts of the flowers. At first I wasn’t quite sure, but then I took another look and, yes, to my eyes it does look pretty darned close!

I hope your power outage didn’t last too long, though. I don’t like being without power!!

Barbara, I’m so glad your chiropractor appt. went well and you are feeling better and standing straighter already! That is really good news.

Tomorrow (well, I’m still up so it’s still Thursday, you know!! πŸ˜‚) I will have lunch with my brother and sister-in-law for doing our Christmas. Then Saturday I meet my oldest grandson, Eric, and his wife, Sarah, and their little boy, Skyler, for lunch and Christmas exchanges. I will also have Skyler’s birthday presents with me, as he will turn 3 next week. They usually have a birthday party for him, but I haven’t heard of anything yet, and it may not happen, or at least on a smaller scale this year–hard to keep up a big birthday doings, year after year!–so this way he gets his presents at a time when I can really focus on him and not the 20 or so people around him!

Skyler starts out the “birthday blitz” in my house–I have NINE birthdays between 1/13 and 2/9! Mostly family (son, grandsons, etc.) but also a couple of friends. And that doesn’t include my three cousins with January birthdays! That Hallmark 20% off birthday coupon (I’m in January, too) comes at just the right time!!

Your luncheons and gift exchanges sound like a lot of fun. We have a lot of January events too. Then nothing until March/April. For years Dionne planned special parties for the kids for their birthdays and sometimes people showed up and sometimes they didn’t. Then she went to just family for the parties and at their house. Now it’s down to the older kids invite a friend and they do something special and go to dinner with the family. It usually involves a sleep over. It seems to be working out well and there is far less stress.

      Dear Charlotte, Happy Birthday soon!

I mentioned to your namesake, little Miss Charlotte Noelle, that you were having a birthday. She wanted to know if there was going to be cake. I could see where this was going.

I told her that I am sure there would be cake. I knew she would say that she wanted you to send her a piece in the mail. I think we went though this with her before. I was prepared to explain again that, while a nice, idea, it wouldn’t work.

As I was preparing my rebuttal, the little imp said, “well, Mama, you should buy us a cake so that we can celebrate with Auntie Charlotte.”

I was speechless. I should know better than trying to anticipate Charlotte Noelle.

Birthday hugs from the human and all of the dollies here.

(In case any of the Sofa Sisters do not know, I will share that Charlotte Noelle is a Little Darling doll named for our own Charlotte.)

I am sitting here laughing out loud! Charlotte Noelle definitely has her own way of thinking about things!! Thank you.

Jeanne, so sorry to hear you were without power, and I certainly hope you have it now! Of all things, all we had here in St. Louis was just a sprinkle or two, and not much of any, wind. At least not where I live. The bad weather was above js, below js and east of us, missing us almost completely. I really wanted a nice soaking rain, but that did ot happen.

Oh my, that dress looks suspiciously like something Molly would wear! I love the pretty white collar and band around the puffed sleeves! It looks perfect for a Valentine or Easter dress too! In fact, Easter will be early this year, April 5th!

I was thinking that style of dress, at least the part you have shown us, looks like something even a little girl would wear today! The ribbon bow is a cute accent, and the perfect color!

Can’t wait to see what comes next!

  3. Friday again!
I certainly hope you got your power back quickly. We can manage without quite a few things if we have to, but electricity is so important. Being in the dark- or late in the day, is really difficult to finish up the day.
I hope your power is back
THIS sweet yellow dress! Oh my goodness. It is turning out just precious! I love the pique fabric used on the sleeves and collar!
Oh I hope you found a scrap of leather to make some shoes too!
Happy Friday everyone. I will go back now and read yesterday’s comments.

So sorry that the power went out. Hopefully, it wasn’t for long. We’re so used to it here, but we have had a relatively nice break lately.
The dress is looking very sweet especially with the white collar and sleeve trim. Hope we’ll see more on Monday. πŸ™‚
Yesterday, I had a delivery set to arrive from Ruby Red, but Gofo doesn’t give a time frame only that it is out for delivery within two days. So, we went about things like getting in a walk and heading to Costco for gas and a chicken etc. Came home and did not spot a box. Headed to the other house to play with Coco and give her treats and then journeyed home. I watched carefully as we drove into the driveway, but no box on the porch. Then I started in sorting photos to copy for a new cousin. Came into the dining room to photo the photos and sent them to my computer. Took lots of time. Went back into the bedroom where I had photos everywhere on the bed. Thought that I heard something, like a thump. Peeped out the window and saw the doll box standing at attention on the mat in front of the door. Also, spotted the delivery guy heading back down the steps, but where was the big truck? Nope, not a truck, but a black non descript small car with no markings.. It must have driven up from Newark with a few local deliveries. Anyway, I gathered my wits and headed to the living room. I thought that other person was taking a nap and that I might have a chance to procure my latest, but he was already up and looked outside. He may have heard the thump, but without a truck, didn’t see anything. But, then, he headed towards the door. NO! I quickly started babbling about did he see the mail I had sent him and had he finished with the taxes etc. Anything to get him into the office. I guess he decided that going out the front door didn’t sound as appealing as heading to the office, so he did head there. I was trembling and hoped that he would stay there for a bit. But, it did not look that way as he turned to come back to the living room. I finally convinced him to show me where the box with some papers was kept in the closet. After he did that, he headed to the computer. I left the room, but watched his reflection on a picture frame glass in the hall and decided that he was going to remain there for a few minutes at best. I turned and headed back down the hall and into the living room. With shaking fingers and knowing that I could be caught at any second, I turned the doorknob ever so slowly so that it wouldn’t squeak, waited until there were no passing cars to make extra noise and opened the door. Using the one swift movement method, I bent down and grabbed the top of the box standing there, pulled it straight up and back through the door depositing it upright by the end of the couch just in case other person decided to pop back into the living room. I was so hoping that other person was engaged enough to not spoil my efforts as I ever so quietly rotated that doorknob again to close the door silently. Done! Then, I swiftly picked up the box from it’s obvious hiding place and carried it to the secret location in the family room. Poor Kelly is still there awaiting opening which may occur today as other person is going to the store. πŸ™‚ Another caper completed and fortunately, I wasn’t caught. So happy!

Phew! Now I can let out the breath I’ve been holding. Another successful dolly caper under your belt.

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, I always hold my breath when I read your “reports.” Jim Phelps (Mission Impossible TV show) would be so proud of you. If the IM Force was still in place, I feel confident that it would recruit you (smile).

      Happy Weekend!

    3. Hi Joy, Love your doll stories, where do you keep all these dolls? Must be in a locked room! Boy when the other person ever goes into that hideaway ! That will be something1 Maybe you have told how many dolls you have hidden and I missed it! Would love to know! Thanks Sylvia

We are still here in Helen until next Friday, then off to home for the last time from Helen. We decided that at our age it would be just dumb to come so far from home. We drive here and if anything happened to one of us we would not be able to get home. None of our family is close to here. So, sadly, we will enjoy our last few days. We went to the indoor pool this am and we were the only ones there, YAY! I made Benedict for our breakfast and we will have Lamb Chops for a late lunch here. We finally have a few birds on our balcony, maybe more will arrive if the weather will be colder as it says.

Jeanne, a hope your weather has calmed down and you have power back. The lovely yellow dress is sweet with the white trims. Looking forward to see what will have been done on Monday. Have a great weekend!

    1. Charlotte Trayer

I’m glad you are having a good time in Helen, Sissy, but certainly understand your difficult decision to make this the “last” trip there, and for very good reasons. I’m sure it’s bittersweet for both of you!

This year I’ve been wondering how many more years I will be able to attend my sewing expo. It’s partly the age factor–I will be 80 this month–but partly all the cranky body parts–a knee that hurts most of the time, a back that isn’t always happy, and so on–plus all the falls I’ve had in the last three months (I think I’m up to 7 now).

They’re right when they say, getting old isn’t for sissies!! There are lots of things I always took for granted before, but sure don’t any more!

It looks like another winner. The mystery accessory remains a mystery, but the print is beautifully cheerful. Just what we need in January.

Good luck on the power. We have 5″ of snow, but the sky is turning blue and the sun is out. Anything could happen, but so far we have electricity.

Stay warm. I’m for electric fireplaces, except, of course, when there’s no electricity.

  7. Barbara in SE Texas

Sorry about your power outage. Hope it was short lived. Good job on taking the pictures with a flashlight. The color of the dress is very pretty and I love the bow at the collar. The collar fabric is great too. Looking forward to seeing more of this already lovely dress – and the mystery object.

  8. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I hope your power is back on. The dress is already looking lovely.

We had some sad news here, a missing 20 yr old hiker was found dead the other day, we didn’t connect the name right away, but it was Sam’s friend Amanda’s second son. Jono was friends with the oldest, but Kai more or less grew up with Connor until they moved down south so she saw him all the time firstly when Jono and Logan went to Kindy then she and Conner went there together then primary school together. They all used to go to an after-school programme together as well. Kai is very upset, even though they haven’t seen each other for years, not since they moved to Dunedin. Sam would love to go down to help support Amanda, but it is not in the budget. She is in a group of ‘Shirley Mums’ on Facebook and one of the group is going down but of course his body hasn’t been released yet so they don’t know when the funeral will be. Prayers for the family and for Kai would be appreciated.

After all that sadness, Marilyn I posted your jacket yesterday I sent an email with the tracking number though that only tells you when it arrives in US. Not only does the PO charge an arm and a leg for postage they make the consumer do all the work. On line! Fortunately, they weren’t busy so were able to help me. Would you believe I have never scanned a QR code before and had no idea how to do it!
Joy your ‘dolly capers’ are always so much fun. You should write a novel lol.
Happy birthday for January Charlotte, my brother in Texas has his birthday on 17th. He was born the same year as my sister in UK but her birthday is Boxing Day so they are 11 1/2 months apart. I used to have a lot of birthdays late Jan-March but sadly many of those have passed so not as many. My older two sons have their birthdays Jan/Feb only a week apart. Rob will be 60 this year on 29th and Darren will be 58 on 3 Feb.
Jeanne the dress is looking great, can’t wait to see who it is for, though I agree with Linda it does look like something Molly would wear, actually I might have worn it in the 50’s as well. I hope your power is back on now, Jeanne, since the earthquakes all our power had to be upgraded and we don’t get power outages quite as often as we used to. Some good had to come out of them I suppose.
    Have a good day everyone.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

My mother and an older brother were born the same year too. He in January and my mother in October. Since both of them started school in the same year since the cut-off date was January 1st rather than the September 1st it is now, everyone thought for years they were twins.

So sorry to hear about the death of someone important to members of your family, especially Kai. I will be praying for peace for all.

    2. Charlotte Trayer

The loss of a young person is always sad, but more so, it seems, when it’s someone to whom you have a connection. I will keep his family–and yours–in my prayers.
