My long distance sewing project…

Hi everyone,
My sister, Cindy, and her hubby, picked me up Friday and we headed to Deb’s, in Springfield, Missouri…
Their new little puppy was picked up just a few hours before we arrived and IS HE ADORABLE!! They are still trying to find the right name for him…if you think you have a new name we haven’t thought of, you would most likely be wrong…Deb has pages of names.

He’s the sweetest little Cavapoo… a cross between a Cavalier King Charles and a poodle.

Deb’s granddaughter’s came over to see the puppy and he had a wonderful time with them… mostly with all the belly rubs…

Isn’t he adorable? We all sure think so.

Deb asked me for a small favor… could I make her a new Bible cover? She actually wanted one made out of a wool plaid… like these she found on Etsy…

So, we began looking for wool plaids IN JUNE and that was pretty much impossible to find… (we thought maybe we could find a pretty plaid wool skirt or jumper, but we couldn’t) We did find some great Harris plaid tweeds that were beautiful but the shipping from the UK was quite high… so we went to Hobby Lobby and decided on an upholstery fabric and started…

I drafted a pattern and began trying to put it together… it was a bit more complicated and took much longer than I thought. The fabric was a bit too thick, the only pair of scissors that would cut through the fabric were some hair cutting scissors Cindy brought with her, and Deb’s sewing machine really had a workout trying to go through all the layers with interfacing.

We wanted to center the design on the front of the cover and it was quite the challange trying to “fussy cut” it and get the cover to wrap around and match on top… it took several tries and many “fittings!”

Finally, all the pieces of the puzzle came together…

Mission accomplished in Missouri!

See you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh that puppy, Jeanne,…. ADORABLE! You will have to let us know what name they picked out,for sure! I bet “going to Grandma’s” at Deb’s house is going to be so much fun for the girls, and rightfully so! I also wonder how big he will get when fully grown?

That Bible cover is just perfect, even though you didn’t find the kind of material she wanted. I think the one she did pick is actually the better choice. What a perfect matching of the pattern! And too, fun to see all three of you together figuring thngs out!

So your weekend certainly turned out to be a good one and I hope you didn’t have too much rain! We are soaked!!

  2. Nice result, Jeanne.
I love the fabric choice. Actually fancier than wool plaid.
I have my mom’s wool plaid kilt, from U.K. but it is red plaid and kind of not a subdued color.
    I love Hobby Lobby.
You had a great adventure, what fun!
Deb’s new puppy is so so cute. Oh my. I love the photo of him getting massive treatments by three little girls.
    Happy Monday everyone.

Absolutely love the photo of the three sisters! What a keeper. Everyone involved and trying to solve the great book cover caper. Which also might become a clutch purse with a few different jogs of the machine. 🙂 What a fun get together.
Mr. Pup, is such a cutie. Hope they pick a wonderful name. A couple of friends we often see on walks, have a friendly black cat. It actually accompanies them on walks around the neighborhood. Whenever we see her, we call here kitty kitty and she comes running to visit. Guess what? Her name is actually Kitty Kitty. 🙂
Rounded the bend on the weed pulling and am now concentrating on the central command. Can’t wait to uncover the old brick surround under the cover of deadly attack brambles. Not sure if my leather gloves are going to last through this troop infestation. Best order more from Costco. 🙂
    And on to Monday. 🙂

Hi Joy, well, Kitty Kitty is an adorable choice of a name. One of the porch kitties here is named Kitty as well because he’s a newer visitor to us, but was named by neighbors one street over.

Did you ever receive an update on your neighbor’s cat?

      1. Joy in northern CA

No update, but then, no news is good news. I’m sure they would let us know if there is a turn for the worse.

Surprise! I’m actually here fairly early in the day!!

The new puppy is adorable. “Fluffy” springs to mind (many eons ago, my cousins had a dog named fluffy, more of a Cocker Spaniel but somehow the name fit. But since he’s part Cavalier King Charles spaniel, maybe he could be Sir Charles, or just Charlie for short?

What a project, but of course you would figure it out!! I love the chosen fabric, and it turned out very professional-looking. Of course, would we expect anything less?!

I have had a fabulous weekend in Michigan. On Sat. June and I went to All Sews (Flint) because there was supposed to be a Viking event, with make and takes, etc. but June was wondering how they were going to manage it, since they are in the middle of moving their store. We got there early, and it turned out that Viking had jumped the gun on the event, sent emails out to everyone and the rep (who would normally have done such things) wasn’t in the loop at all! The owner was quite chagrined, as you can imagine, and apologized–and offered those of us who were there for it a “lifetime 20% discount card” by way of consolation prize! Well, I may not get there too often, but was happy to have that anyway, for next time!! And, because of moving, they had fabrics at 30% off so……(yeah, you Know I did!! LOL)

Yesterday June and Jerry to me to my uncle’s house in Jackson, where his celebration of life was to be held. My brother and his wife got there shortly after we did, so we transferred my stuff to his car and June and Jerry were free to leave whenever they wished, which was a short while later. June did know my uncle, and one of my cousins, but not really well.

Anyway, the day was wonderful. At least one of my cousins I had not seen in over 20 years, and for some it had been about 11 or so. Lots of hugs all around. I got to meet some of my cousins’ children/grandchildren for the first time, too. Two of our 11 were missing, but the rest of us were there. The weather cooperated–sun came out and temps in mid-high 70s, etc. Lots of food, lots of reminiscing.

Now I’m at my cousin Jim’s (mom’s side of the family–yesterday it was dad’s side) for a couple of days. This afternoon he’s taking me over to their daughter’s house so I can see her and meet the baby (born 2/14); not sure if her hubby will be there when I am or not. I have a smocked baby bonnet and a knit sweater (both made by me–yes, I will take pictures!) and some cute Hello Kitty socks for her. Then tomorrow Deb (Jim’s wife) and I will go to a luncheon. Wed. I fly home.

So glad to hear you are having such a good time. I’m envious of your weather for sure. It’s over 90 here now. Wish I could send some of it to Anne in the UK per her request. It’s already lasted too long. I’ve been corresponding with the owner of papergoodies.com, Judy Johnson. She has a wonderful website for paper dolls and I have bought many of the ones I had as a child from her. She is a Yooper and says I should come visit her. I have been to northern Michigan but never the U.P. I’m putting that on my Bucket List. Keep having a good time. I know you’ll be reluctant to leave.

  5. Laura in Ohio

What a sweet little puppy and I’m sure he will be well spoiled by Deb and her hubby as well as when the grandgirls come to visit. I’m sure they will want to come even more often now.

The Bible cover turned out beautifully. Lovely fabric choice.

  6. Karen from Kentucky

Their puppy is so sweet!!! He reminds me of a Cocker Spaniel, which is my favorite! Ours over the years were named Cookie, Amigo, and Espania.

That’s great you made her a Bible cover! That gives me the idea to attempt one for a Missal. Have fun in Springfield!!

Congratulations on your beautiful dolls the other day, Laura! I was going to write, but got distracted at the dentist. Happy Birthday! (Today is my sister Laura’s 39th birthday)

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Now your sister can emulate Jack Benny. He said once he reached 39 he would be 39 each year after. Happy Birthday to your sister Laura. My husband loves Cockers too. He had one named Buck when he was growing up. We had a Cocker named Chelsy. She was so beautiful. She was 13 when she crossed the rainbow bridge. I still tear up thinking of her.

Okay I’m drooling. I said no more pets at this stage of our lives but I would have had a tough time turning down this adorable pup. Can’t wait to find out what she’s named. Make sure to have your sister take lots of pictures so you can share in the future. I would love to see her as she grows up. I’ll settle for vicariously on this one but she is a cutie.

What a great Bible cover. Y’all definitely put a lot of effort in the making.

Deb’s granddaughters are cuties too. Visits to grandma’s will be even more fun now.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Oops! The puppy is a he. Now I really can’t wait to see what the name is.

Well, we got to the Y for our pool exercise and found out the pool was closed. They don’t let you call to find out before 8 and we always leave earlier because it is 35 miles, which is a 70 mile trip. I wrote some words to the boss and the lady in charge of the pool.
The doggie is so sweet. I had a cocker when I was about 12. His name was Shadow, and he really shadowed me. He loved going to the beach to try to dig up sand crabs. They would always grab his nose of lips and he would squeal and try again.Funny doggie.
Jeanne, your cover is lovely, of course. I know you family loves having your sewing when they need something. I remember my niece’s second wedding and when I got there I ended up sewing on her gown and the ones for the bride’s maids as well.
Looking forward to more news about the dog and the rest of your trip. Have fun and stay safe.

  9. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, oh my goodness the puppy is adorable. I think that Reuben’s cousin should be named Riley. Those names just sound so nice together.

Now you can add Bible book cover maker to your list of sewing skills. You lined up the front cover so nicely!

  10. Charlotte Trayer

    Just so I don’t forget…

Dorothy in PA, please tell Charlotte Noelle that I have had ice cream twice so far–both time I had Drumsticks, which are my favorite.

Sissy, my fleece jacket from Cracker Barrel has autumn leaves all over, and it, too, still looks like new when it’s washed, except for the collar and the pocket bands, which are a woven and are starting to get a little faded looking.

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Charlotte, I also bought a tan corduroy coat from them and it has autumn leaves on it too, and it is old but never washed yet.

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Charlotte, I told your namesake and she said drumsticks are on turkeys. I told her there were some that were made of ice cream. She then said that turkeys are not made of ice cream.

I knew where this was going; you probably do also. I ended up having to take her to the store and get her (and her sisters) ice cream Drumsticks. Honestly, that girl (laugh).
