I was SO busy last week, I had no time to prepare for a special post when my 11th Anniversary of writing this blog came up. It was actually on Friday, but I was busy getting things ready for the out-of-town wedding!
But, if you remember, I mentioned something about having a Giveaway this week! Well, that time has come and we are going to have a Giveaway TODAY! I know everyone doesn’t have a Ruby Red Fashion Friend doll, but I’ve been on a frenzy making as many swimsuits as I can for their size and decided the Giveaway would be a new swimsuit for those dolls. (I did try on one of my swimsuits for the Little Darlings and I’ll have to tweak my pattern to make some for them…) but for now, I’m on a roll with the RRFF and will just keep working on suits for them right now. I’ll do another GIVEAWAY soon and include other dolls…
So, I’ll show you the swimsuits I have, and give them some kind of name, so they are easily identified if you happen to be the winner. Then if you happen to have your name drawn out of the hat, you can pick the swimsuit you’d like for your doll. :o)
To be registered for the swimsuit drawing, you have to tell in the comments or in an email to me, “what was your favorite swimsuit you ever had?” You can describe it or tell a story about it too, if you want. The chance to win the swimsuit of your choice will end tonight at midnight, Central Time Zone… (Illinois time) Then maybe tell me which swimsuit you’d like if you win… I need to see which ones are the most popular. :o)
Okay, let’s see the swimsuits! They are all nice and clean, even though they have been repurposed.
If you click any of the pictures they will enlarge.
PINK AND GOLD SPECKLES on Sara: This suit is made from a little girls spandex swimsuit and is actually kind of a tie dye print… it is white and pink with gold speckles. The white doesn’t show up very much in my pictures.
DARK DARK PURPLE WITH SEPARATE SKIRT on Lavender: This swimsuit might look blue on your monitor but it’s VERY PURPLE and is very drapey…
SILVER SHIMMER on “Jamie” (AKA James) This was cut from an evening gown and is very pretty with all the different tones of silver. The buckle on the front is silver.
PINK AND YELLOW WITH SILVER BUTTERFLY on Rozen: This is one of the common prints in children’s swimwear…it’s sort of like a scalloped design done in silver. The colors fade from pink to yellow and different colors on the back… A tiny butterfuly charm was sewn to the side of the suit.
BABY PINK SEQUINS SHIMMER WITH LOW BELT on Rose: This was cut from a child’s top and it a 4 way stretch fabric, so it’s very easy to put on.
AQUA LAVENDER AND LIME STRIPES on Violette: This was one of my first suits and I was getting the hang of it, and was thrilled that my stripes matched up in the back. It’s cut from a child’s swimsuit…
YELLOW AND PINK DAISY AND RAINBOW Colors on Stella: This suit was cut from a childs long sleeve swim coverup. It has silver speckles in the fabric and is VERY bright… I added a small daisy charm to the front and there is a bow in the back.
BLUE AND WHITE TIE DYE Swimsuit on Violette: This suit is made from a 4 way stretch cotton fabric. It is very easy to slide on.
PINK SHIMMER SEQUIN WITH 2 PINK BUTTONS on Violette: This is like the other pink one, only with 2 tiny pink buttons on front.
RED FLORAL SWIMSUIT on Lavender: This suit is made from a 4 way stretch dress I found and cut up. It was little bit long in the torso as it is very stretchy, so I added some aqua buttons on the shoulders.
Okay, so you know what to do now, tell me about your favorite swimsuit you have or used to have and I’ll add your name to the drawing. Then you can pick the suit you’d like to have for being the winner.
This GIVEAWAY ends at midnight tonight.. and I’ll post the winner tomorrow!
Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, what fun!! Okay, my favorite swimsuit. It’s one I made when I was learning to be a Stretch & Sew instructor (teaching swimwear was part of our “curriculum”, and we all had to make one of each kind of garment in the “Basic Eight” classes, to show we knew how, and to use as samples for classes). The fabric was white with a sort of wavy-lines “plaid” (lines crisscrossing) in two shades of lavender, with pansies scattered on the top. It was fully lined (yes, there is a trick to doing a fully-lined swimsuit, and I know how!), and as I recall the style has some soft gathers for shaping, and I think I added bra cups. I wore it for quite a long while (I don’t really go swimming any more but at that time, I went every now and then), until finally I had to replace it because the chlorine in the pool caused it to sort of self-destruct, despite my carefully rinsing it out after every swim.
Of your swimsuits, I think the “dark dark purple” one is my favorite, with “pink with gold speckles” a close second.
Now, about Sarah: Her sister Molly kept in touch with me off and on all afternoon and evening. The surgery got a late start but all went VERY well, and the last update said Sarah was in ICU, her breathing tube had been awake, she was awake, and she was very very stable!! I cried.
So, good news all around, and I/we surely do thank everyone for your prayers for her.
Sarah had messaged me shortly before going into surgery, to tell me she loves me. 💖 She is truly a daughter of my heart.
Oops, that should say “her breathing tube had been REMOVED, she was awake…” Sorry about that. Just when you think you’ve done adequate proofreading…
So glad to hear the good news, Charlotte! Thank God!
Congratulations to you and Sarah!
Such very very good news. Sarah is a gem indeed
Well, a very bright spot to start the day. So glad the surgery went well.
Well, that’s just wonderful news, Charlotte! So happy to hear the surgery went well.
So glad to hear the wonderful news about Sarah, Charlotte. I still have the messages on my phone from when David had his heart surgery back in January of 2021. I still look back and read them every now and then. I loved that they kept in touch with me from the operating room all day. Kept me from being too stressed out.
Charlotte….so glad to read that Sarah’s surgery went well and she is on the road to recovery!
Just showing you that plans don’t always work out the way you planned! We were all set to go to my older brother’s 90th birthday on Monday when we got the news that Peyton’s first wife passed away last Thursday. It was very unexpected. Then we got the news that the funeral would be on Monday, the day of my brother’s birthday. The funeral was at her church in Gainesville, GA, a 5 hour drive from us. Peyton’s 3 kids were so devastated, and we needed to be there with them and his grand kids. I quickly notified my family and asked if we could have Carl’s birthday party on Saturday. My great niece, Laura, was sweet about it, I made a huge meringue on a platter with peaches and whipped cream, his favorite, and Laura made dinner. She had another small party for her dad on Monday with a cake.
We got back home last night.
So glad that everything worked out with funeral and birthday. Must have been crazy. Hope that you can take it easy this week.
Oh my Sissy, So sorry for this sudden loss and change of plans
that went just fine. Sympathies to all of you
Sorry to hear the sad news of Peyton’s first wife’s passing. Praying for his children and grandchildren that they find peace. What a wonderful gesture Laura made to accommodate your situation. A 90th birthday needs to be celebrated and I’m sure your brother was pleased you did what you could to celebrate with him.
What a cute lineup of swimsuits, Jeanne! Yes, I do realize that you have been busy, but at least you are not sitting around completely bored!
Well, now, I have only one RRFF doll, and that is Sara. With her blonde hair I think the second swimsuit, the purple one with a detachable skirt would look really cute on her. She usually stands with the 40’s girls, so the more modern swimsuits would not “go” with that timeline. I wonder if it would also fit Emmy, my Wellie Wisher too, since many of their clothes fit each other. Did you try any of those swimsuits on Betsy McCall? Those are my three 14 in dolls, and many clothes are interchangeable, but not all.
The good news about Sarah was wonderful, Charlotte!
Whoops! I forgot to mention my favorite swimsuit! I cannot remember for the life of me,any that I wore as a child, but in college I bought a two piece swimsuit from the Sears catalog, in a leopard print! Now this was in the 60’s, so the bottoms were not bikini’s, just so you know! Even had a built-in bra! 😉
You know I don’t remember any of my swim suits. The one suit that comes to mind is one my daughter made. She made it for the local 4-H Dress Revue. She got a blue ribbon on it. I was so proud of her for attempting something so complicated and challenging.
All of us “silent lurkers” will come out of the woodwork when you have a give-away! 🙂
My favorite swimsuit was a light pink and white checked seersucker one-piece I had when I was in my twenties. It was a simple design. but I love seersucker, and I love pink…
My favorite of your doll suits is the first one, the pink and gold speckle. The dark purple with the skirt is a close second.
I had a red swim suit as a kid.
I do not remember any other suits really. I wore a really skimpy two piece at a beach in France when I was a teen-ager.
All of these suits are so adorable! This is like a Summer fashion show! I love it!!
Do not add me in the give away, I do not have any cute tiny dolls. I have two AG dolls but they are napping now.
We have had wonder weather recently, a well deserved break from the normally boiling humid weather in Northern Virginia.
My daughter, her hubbs and two cute daughters left for the beach in North Carolina Sunday morning. I am super jealous hahaha 😆
I got a Maytag washer and dryer yesterday and doing laundry. So nice.
New appliances are so complicated now with lots of buttons and pushing settings on a digital display panel.
I hope every one has a delightful day. I can not believe it is Tuesday already
OH…. I like the red one, the last one, the best
Well, the swimsuit I remember most was the one I got in Hawaii, when I was a teenager. Bikinis’ were just “in”, and I hadn’t seen any in our town yet. So, I was able to buy one in Honolulu, that I loved. It was white embroidered cotton with little blue/green flowers sprinkled on it. The bottom had a zipper up the back. This was before the stretch fabrics like Jeanne’s suits. Of course, my regular suits went to the waist, so with the new look, I had a very white stomach for awhile. That is until I managed to sunburn my stomach. I still remember on the way home on the plane wearing a suit, everyone used to dress up on plane rides, and nylons. Well, that was a very painful trip with the rubbing on my stomach. But, I survived and the swimsuit too. Still have it and I well remember being the first one at our local neighborhood pool wearing it. 🙂
So nice of Jeanne to do the giveaway. Good luck to the winner!
Jeanne, I read and looked at the blog Monday but didn’t have a chance to comment. I LOVE the photo of you and George at the wedding, Y’all look so cute! Your dress is lovely. It is good to be back home but this week will be getting ready for MDCC. We leave on Tuesday.
How fun to have a giveaway. My favorite swimsuit was one I had as a young teen 12- 13. It was black with huge hot pink hibiscus flowers and green leaves all over it. It also had a cute flippy skirt and ruching on the sides.
Of the swimsuits offered , my favorite is the one on Stella with the daisy charm and bow in the back.
I think you must have sold the similar one I loved with the skirt that Sara was modeling
Really cute swimsuits! I like the pink and yellow with the silver butterfly.
My favorite swimsuit was actually my sister’s! It looked like water – beautiful turquoise and dark blue waves. So fun to have a giveaway! Thank you!
I have had several favorite swimsuits over the years that I’m reminded of when I see them in pictures but I think my favorite one was one I made as part of an ensemble. It was a two-piece swimsuit made out of cotton. The bottoms were red gingham and the top was navy gingham. Both had white rick–rack trim. I made a sheath-like cover-up to go with it. The front was red gingham and the back was navy gingham and it had a red gingham ruffle around the bottom.
I never win anything but just for grins I think I’ll pick the pink sequined suit with the thin belt. I really like that suit.
Dear Jeanne, how nice of you to offer a giveaway!
I do not want to be in the contest as I am not a swimmer and do not remember any swimsuits I had as a child.
The ones you have made for the RRFF dolls are lovely. I am sure there are little dolls peeking over their Mamas’ shoulders and jumping up and down!
I am glad you had a wonderful time with your sisters.
I usually avoided swimming suits, but I vaguely recall a white one with purple flowers. I did learn to swim — the pool provided ugly aqua knit ones with no support anywhere, but they washed them and provided clean suits and towels every time. That was at least helpful.
I agree with Linda — I approve of skirts.
So many different swimsuits! Makes me want to construct a beach-wear store….only for Ruby Red dolls! I made a Barbie doll Beach-wear store called “Turtle Bay”, for a Granddaughter’s Birthday years ago. I had purchased a wonderful turtle print fabric and used that as wallpaper for the store…hardwood floors, a screen door just like the ones on a cottage from yesteryear….and made lots of Barbie beachwear to display on shelves, hooks and even a wooden rowboat with seats from Hobby Lobby used on end to provide more shelves.
My favorite swimsuit from your selection is the Aqua Lavender & Lime Stripes….very eye catching and love the little belt! I also liked the Pink & Gold Speckles with the stylish, gathered fabric belt…such a realistic detail for a doll swimsuit!
The swimsuit I had as a teenager in the 60’s was my favorite…two piece lined cotton with the top in red with little polka dots and the bottoms (almost to the waist, like underwear) were in a matching polka dot only in navy blue….and the entire two pieces were edged in 1/2 inch white sturdy bias tape. (I believe it was a Bobbie Brooks swimsuit) The interesting feature was the bottoms front and back pieces were held together with short pieces of horizontal 1/2 in. bias tape, and created about five “1-inch open squares”, running vertically down your hips!! So I ended up with these little tan squares on my hips! I do remember my Aunt thought the swimsuit was “scandalous”, showing hip skin like it did….but my mother did let me purchase the suit….so I was okay with it!
