Hi everyone,
I did text Dorothy and have not heard back from her. I hope she’s on a trip and maybe doesn’t have internet. I do have her phone number but I hate to call… I hope she surprises us today, on May 1st! It’s HER FAVORITE DAY of the year!!!!
I’m sorry if some of you are experiencing troubles with the BOT Blocker that Sarah installed last night. I wasn’t even sure if you all were going to be able to read the notice about it being added. Linda says the page with the pictures and the buses and bicycles keeps popping up when she is reading the post. It did that with me when I was on my desktop, but not on my phone. Anne, down in New Zealand has been locked out apparently and I’m trying to get her back online.
It wasn’t that these emails were going into my JUNK mail, they were being sent from my “Contact Me” tab right on my website into my regular emails. I had to check every single one of them and send them to the trash without opening them. Many were from Russia, some were “untasteful” just in what their one liners said, and others were just about wanting to write a post for me. I had to check them individually because they go to my Primary email where many of you send me messages or pictures to use. I couldn’t just delete them in bulk because I would lose anything good sent to me. Let’s go one more day and see what happens… Sarah said if the reCaptcha didn’t work, she would find something else. I will tell her what some of you are going through.
Okay, let’s get to the fun part of the post today… Mae is all dressed up in her blue and white and touch of yellow dress. It was a beautiful day outside; 72 degrees and just a slight breeze… so we ventured outside for some pictures. I hope they look as good on here and on my Ebay listing as they do on my phone. Crystal Clear! YAY!
I didn’t take too many outside because when I tried to bend over to get low enough for her pictures, my back felt strained, so I hurried… and came back in to the take the rest. I hope you like them… It’s too late to change anything now. My hope is to get it listed on Ebay Friday evening.
I managed to get her some little white SOCKS made to go with her new blue shoes. They are a lacy pattern on the foot part, but you can’t see that as I used the finished edge of the stockings around the ankle.
Here is her sweet yellow tulle SLIP. It has 4 layers of tulle as it was such a light color of yellow, I wanted it to be richer in color.
It just slides up her legs and onto her belly. It fits loosely around her waist, but can be slid down if you want the slip to peek out a bit below her dress.
I finished adding the yellow and white checked trim around the empire waistline. It is stitched in place in certain areas to hold it at the seamline where the skirt is attached. Then I added 3 yellow buttons and sewed the snaps on the back.
I made two HAIRBOWS with snap clips on the back for easy hair accessorizing! They look cute with her pigtails but can be used however the winner likes.
I found a miniature BEAR in the Dolly Toy Box that was the perfect shade of blue for this dress. I took off the gold necklace and birthstone and added a yellow checked ribbon around the neck. Mae is calling her Bloomie!
Here are all the pieces… the dress, slip, hairbows, socks, shoes and teddy bear.
Well, I hope I get it listed… It’s Food Pantry day and I’m going to try and see if I can make it… I also have to go to the Post Office and mail the Our Generation doll items… YAY… someone bought it. It’s also the World Hunger Sale here in town. It happens once a year and there is always a LOT of stuff donated and if you’re up to rummaging, you can find some real treasures. I am going to TRY and make it to that as well… busy day, huh?
I’ll see you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, I found something interesting about the BOT Blocker this morning! I usually start my day on our desktop computer, and I did that today. Nothing showed up with the various pictures . I thought that was good that maybe my problems are over with that, but then I went upstairs and use my iPad, and there it is again! I had to figure out where the buses, cars, and steps were for 6 different times! I guess it makes a difference of what kind of device you are using. Jeanne, my little inconvenience isnβt nearly as bad as yours, going through over 700 emails! I will go through as many buses, cars and steps it takes to get the blog!
About Dorothy, maybe she has a computer problem and canβt let us know. We have all been there and understand if that is the case. Did Laura get anything back from her?
I hope and pray she is fine and just canβt get to us.
Now to little Mae! What a sweet little outfit that looks and sings Itββs May Day!β I love the blue and yellow combination and the addition of Bloomie! With all that beautiful green in the background of the outdoor pictures, she herself looks like a little flower!
Does anyone remember making baskets out of paper, putting some flowers I. Them from the yard, and secretly setting them on the neighbors front porches, ringing the doorbell, and running away before they saw who left them?
Happy May Day everyone!πΌπΈπΊ
Oh, yes, Linda, I remember making May baskets! We didn’t have a lot of really close neighbors, and of course, early May in upper Michigan doesn’t lend itself to a lot of flowers yet, but usually we at least had a basket to take to Mrs. Nadeau, who lived across the street and was our “sitter” (NOT “babysitter”!!) when we were young.
By the way, I look at Jeanne’s blog on my laptop, and haven’t had to identify any buses or whatever at all!
Linda, thank you for reminding me about putting the little flower paper basket on the doorway. I remember it that I gave one to a really sweet lady to when I was very young, probably 6 years old.
Sissy and Charlotte, Iβm afraid to mention that most of the time, the βflowersβ that we put in the baskets were dandelions and whatever wild flowers we could find!π€£
May baskets! My most recent one was several years ago, when I saw my across-the-street trying to get down my stairs quickly — she had left me a may basket, but pointed out that trying to run away quickly is harder after 90. Fortunately I had chocolates, blossoms, and heavy wrapping paper, so not much later she got a basket too.
I, too, have emailed Dorothy (PA), on Wednesday, and haven’t heard back. If she is on a trip, she will certainly see how much she is missed when she comes back and finds our messages! And if she’s ill, I hope and pray she recovers soon and is able to rejoin us here on the sofa!
I would have loved to have had a yellow “cancan” (as we called them in the 1950s) when I was young. I did have a white one with pink trim, and then finally a lavender one, which I had to roll the waist down some as it was too long, and I loved them both. In fact, they may still be hiding somewhere around here, I’m not sure! Of course, when Ron and I were square dancing (late 80s thru the late 90s), I had some lovely petticoats, in a variety of colors, including yellow! Such fun. I miss those days, and wearing those poufy skirts!
Anyway, Mae’s whole outfit is just wonderful–bright and cheerful and feminine and lovely! She’s not going to want to give this one up!
I have yet to have to answer the questions to prove I’m a human. We’ll see if that happens tonight or not.
Mae is very cute! I love the little shoes! I am very lucky! I went on your site as usual, no buses or cars etc. Have a good day!
Good morning dear ones. I am glad to know all of you are able to attempt to communicate with Dorothy.
Jeanne, I hope you are feeling a little bit better, it sounds like it as you are thinking of going to the Food Pantry. That is good. I am praying that you have a comfortable time and do not irritate anything and end up laying on the couch all week-end, so please be mindful.
Mae’s little dress in May is adorable. I love this color on her with her blond hair and blue eyes. So sweet. Jeanne, you take really excellent photos! All of the details show so nicely. Those shoes are so cute. This outfit is just perfect. The hair bows are a sweet addition and the bear is a perfect choice. I think this fabric and dress design with the yellow trim is so sweet!
Yesterday afternoon, we went to a private gathering (just the courtyard houses here (about 40 houses) just out side on the walking path behind us with lots of tables and loads of food. We have neighbors from everywhere. I did not get to meet all of them but wow, we have some superbly sweet new neighbors. I think some of them like me. I did like all of them.
I am going to prepare some photos and how to’s to send to Jeanne next week, regarding the Vera Bradley tiny bag. The prototype copying exactly the purchased item is complete. It was pretty easy for me to replicate because I have made little zipper clutches before… I believe I got that pattern from “Film in the Fridge” many years ago. I have done a web search though and can not find that pattern anywhere. Anyway, I will try to take some time to put a coherent report together.
These kind of bags with a top zipper and lining are not too difficult once you understand the process. The store bought one is mass produced, quickly made, and some features, as I made in a comment to Joy late yesterday on Jeanne’s blog last evening, the use of bulky bias tape to seal the seams inside, was actually useful to make the bag have a bulky look? Anyway.
I constructed the copy bag slowly, and had to do some unsewing to then add the handles…. just a slow test project and it turned out great. Happy Friday sweet May π flowers, all of you! We are each beautiful flowers πΌπΉ. I am hoping someone hears from Dorothy.
NoodleHead: https://blog.noodle-head.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html I made a half dozen of these for the bridal party for Christina’s wedding. They turned out super cute. Looking that this tutorial will give you an idea how the zipper is sewn on and the inside seams are …. inside the lining.
I can not find the printed out version of this pattern anymore, but this is it!
This knowledge helped me figure out how to make the teeny tiny VB bag
Thanks so much Rosemary on the tiny bag. I’ll have to look at the video later when I can concentrate more. Too sleepy now. π
Sounds like your new neighborhood has some great people. π
This outfit is very pretty. Perfect color choices for the trims slip and shoes. Changing to blue eyes was genius!!
I didnβt get the blog today so had to do a go around but I made it. Sometimes I get those horrible emails too. Just the subject line is disgusting and I feel contaminated just deleting them. Sure hope goodness prevails in these trying times. Have a great May Day and weekend all, especially our MIA Dorothy.
Jeanne, what a mess with all those emails. I do have the pictures to make I am human, but it is ok. I hope your back will be totally well by Monday. Get a lot of rest this weekend, please!
I really love you Mae Day outfit, one of your best ever. I really want it but we have had too many things we have paid for lately. One of them is my back shot
today. We are leaving now, will catch y’all again soon.
Hope your shot isn’t too painful. Take care.
Thank you, Joy, it is fairly painful when it happens but nothing to cry over at all. I am resting at home as told and am going to take a small nap. I feel ok enough to go to the taco dinner this evening, made the cookies yesterday and we won’t stay long.
Well, that is good news. Glad you’ll be feeling better soon and tacos sounds great!
Happy May Day! What a perfect day to see little Mae in her May Day dress. It is so cute. Love that the dress is the colors of Ukraine too. The photos are so fun with my favorites being the one on the brickpile and the one on Jeanne’s special fake grass, of which you would never know it if she hadn’t told us, with the green yard behind. Love the whole outfit and I think the little socks are adorable with the shoes. Oh no, I was going to scroll back up to look at the pics again but stopped just in time since I lost my whole post the other day when I did that.
I did see on the bottom right corner of my screen the little captcha emblem, so it looks like Jeanne’s blog is protected. π
We have fog this morning, but it should burn off soon and it looks like we’ll have another nice day. I’m still pulling weeds every afternoon and am about to make a second pass on the areas with blackberry creeping back. I’m going to devise a cone so that I can paint/spray something on just the blackberry and not hit my iris or other plants that I don’t want to lose. Hopefully, I can do that on a warm day so that it will dry quickly. But not ready for that yet. We need to bring the rototiller down from the other house to do the raised beds after we pick up fertilizer at Home Depot. A lot of work to get done around here. Then, we can plant the tomatoes and cucumbers and maybe some pumpkin seeds. We’ll see.
And my latest RRed was still at the HK airport yesterday. Maybe she’ll get a plane out over the weekend. So, probably a delivery next week. I’ll have to be on the look out. Have a great weekend everyone.
Sure hope that we hear from Dorothy soon. Happy May Day to her!
I really need to see pretty little Mae in her lovely May Day dress. It has been raining here since around 4 a.m. this morning so it’s really gloomy. Seeing perky little Mae in the sunny outdoor shots made my day.
Today was my appointment with the orthopedic doctor. I had to get up a 6 a.m. I had an 8 a.m. appointment but wanted to get there early to have my one knee x-rayed. I ended up not getting in for the x-ray until 8 a.m. anyway. Actually it was a preliminary with his professional assistant who was a very nice young man – and cute too. Since most of my pain is not located specifically at my knees or hips or any specific place, it was determined surgery would not be needed but weeks of PT should help with the problem. They will be calling me this week to set that up. My biggest problem is when I’m walking. He said my nerves are not communicating to my legs properly and PT should help a lot with that. I return at the end of July for re-evaluation. Hopefully at that time there will be vast improvement. They also gave me a prescription for Celebrex. If any of my Sofa Sisters have taken this I’d like to know if they will share. He said it can be a problem for kidneys if taken too much. I usually don’t take anything unless I actually need it but I don’t know much about this medication.
Praying we’ll hear from Dorothy soon.
Barbara, praying that your PT with really help and get you going well again. I know you must be glad you won’t have to have surgery! Keep us posted how it goes!
I’m glad your appointment went well and hope that the X-ray is read quickly. So PT it is. Do you have to go someplace or will the PT come to your home?
By the time I got in to see the doctor the x-ray was ready. I always felt I had done some serious damage to my knee when I stumbled over my dog that time but evidently not. But I do have some arthritis in the knee but I’m not experiencing any pain because of it hance no need for surgery. The PT location is here in town and just around the corner from me so no problem getting there.
Mae’s dress is like a wish for blue skies. We’ve been having a lot of clouds and, thank heavens, some rain. Two of my AGs are wearing their latest “wheel of the year” shirts, also sky blue with crescent moons decorated with flowers. May Day is halfway through spring. The iris is just starting here, but the lawns are a long way from green.
I have a huge box on my porch and was wondering where I’d put whatever it is. I looked it up on my “orders” record — it’s a bucket large enough to soak the roots of the ‘Campfire” rose I just ordered to celebrate the repainting of my house. Fortunately the man who cuts my lawn said he’d plant it for me.
I feel guilty about not doing my own mowing, but after my knee was replaced, I realized that having the lawn cut was cheaper than surgery. Less painful too.
On a more cheerful note, no spam blocker this morning. I hope that means that the spam is being blocked some other way. I like Jeanne’s time spent on sewing, not on removing nuisance mail.
Dear Marilyn, never feel guilty about yard work. We do what we can, but it is superb to have help. I am so happy that your mower is going to plant the new rose!
Running very, very late checking in here. I was on the doll boards etc. first.
I didn’t get a response to my email to Dorothy in PA. I do hope she is just busy elsewhere. Happy May Day to you, Dorothy!! ππ·πΉπΊ
Mae looks adorable! This outfit is so sweet. I do remember making May baskets. It was a sweet tradition. I made them with my daughter as well to share with neighbor friends.
Yay I was able to get into the blog this morning. Sam reset the modem so not sure if that was what made it work or if Jeanne did something but at least It worked. It took quite a while to catch up on all I had missed.
I am really quite worried about Dorothy, It isn’t like her to miss May Day! I hope someone hears from her soon. Does she have family? I have never seen her mention anyone.
Jeanne, Mae looks so cute. If I ever bought a small doll, she would be the one for me. The whole outfit is just stunning, I love the fabric, the colours, the style, just everything about it. Well done.
It is my birthday tomorrow (Sunday) so we are using Sam’s voucher that she won to go for a fancy dinner with my sons, DIL and grandson Jack. Livvie is back in Auckland and Sam’s three don’t want to come. Ash and Jono both suffer from anxiety around noise and crowds and Kai is staying home to cook for them so Sam and I can have time on our own with family.
It is our Guild meeting today. Last year our President set us a challenge; she gave us a page from a magazine and we had to make a small (12″ x 12″) quilt using something from a page as inspiration. Today is our big reveal, we get to see everyone’s creation and vote on them. I will send a photo (with the article I used) when I get it back.
Well I will have to see now if I get to prove whether I am a human or not. Have a wonderful May Day everyone. Here it is the last day of Autumn and very cold this morning.
Well, happy day tomorrow!! I’m sure that it will be great fun with family. And so nice of Kai, to stay home and do the cooking. π
The magazine page quilt block sounds interesting. Looking forward to seeing yours.
A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, Anne!! I hope your special day is wonderful.
Happy birthday, Anne!
To answer your question, yes, I believe Dorothy has a daughter and possibly a granddaughter, but I don’t remember for sure about that.
No captcha
YAY!!
Anne, Happy Birthday tomorrow!!! πΌπΉππ₯°βοΈππ I hope you have the nicest day with family!
Yes, I am excited to see what you made for Quilt Guild.
I too am worried about Dorothy. We will keep her in our prayers.
Thinking of you, Anne! Have a wonderful time at your dinner!
Oh boy! I keep getting the captcha thing every single time when I am on my iPad, but guess what? I just tap the screen outside of that box, and it goes away without me doing anything! Iβm trying to figure out just who that is not human would be on the blog?? Dogs, cats, flowers???πΆπ±πΊ
