Hi everyone,
Today is July 30th and also my dad’s heavenly birthday. He was born today in 1925, so he would have been 100 today. It doesn’t seem possible, but he died when I was back in high school. I sure would have loved more time with him!
It was super-hot and humid again today and when I walked into the living room this morning, it looked like our house had been through a car wash. The inside of our house was cool, but the outside was in the upper 80’s early on, so the windows were streaked with condensation from the temperature difference. You could hardly see out the windows at all…
I haven’t stepped foot in my sewing room to do any sewing for days! But you know why; my sisters are here! They get all my attention while they are here and yours probably would too if you have some! We went shopping again today… looking for a dress for me to wear to the wedding this weekend. I tried on LOTS today and they helped me pick one, along with shoes and something to wear over it.
We had lunch… at Panera’s (of course) and then did some more shopping! It was dreadfully hot again today… but the humidity may have been slightly less… it still sucked the life out of you, so we curbed our shopping and headed home.
After visiting at my cousin’s trailer (where they stay when they come for a visit) we decided to go to dinner at a place we’ve been going to since we were in high school… over 50 years ago. It’s the most famous pizza place in town and is called Italian Village, or IV’s to all of us. It’s not your typical pizza place… and is known for all the writing on the walls, ceilings, mirrors, lamps, pictures… you name it, it has names on it. Back in the 70’s when we were in high school, there used to be artificial grapevines and grape clusters dangling from the ceilings. They have since been removed, but the writing is still on the walls. My name is probably on one of the walls, but I couldn’t tell you where. You’ll have to click on the pictures to enlarge them to see what I mean by the names.
It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we love the memories of going there and the pizza is great! You even get free ice cream cones! (Cindy used to work at an ice cream shop when she was in high school, so we always tease her about how she makes the nicest curls on her cone!)
That was my day… not too exciting unless you were me! I LOVE sister time!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Wow, you really had it humid today! We reached about 84 today, but our humidity (Seattle area) was only 25%, so not bad at all.
I’m glad you found a nice dress and accessories, Jeanne. I’m sure it helped to have your sisters along. It’s always good to have an extra pair (or two) of eyes, to spot any fitting issues that might affect one’s comfort, or how one might look in something.
Boy, you weren’t kidding when you said people wrote all over in that restaurant! Looks like people wrote on tope of what other people wrote, too. It’s nice that they have been able to stay in business such a long time. We have a pizza place out our way, too, that’s been around for a while, and is one of very few places in this area that actually serve Green River on tap! (A Green River is a lime-flavored soda pop, if you’ve never heard of it.) Ron and I used to love to go there; no matter what we ordered to eat, we always had to have our Green Rivers! His without ice, mine with.
Please keep my former daughter-in-law, Sarah, in your prayers. She is having open-heart bypass surgery in the morning (Wed.), and is only 46. She had a heart attack a couple of days ago. Her kids are our Isaac and Lily, and they are 23 and 18, respectively, and I’m sure as frightened as can be. Unfortunately she’s a smoker, which no doubt contributed at least somewhat to the heart attack. Thank you.
I should add, Sarah and I have a very good relationship and always have. I told her when she and Daniel divorced, she is the daughter of my heart.
Prayers for your daughter in love, Charlotte. Please let us know how she is.
I’ve not heard of Green River, but the deli we loved as teens had a mandarin lime soda on tap that was my favorite. That is, until I tasted Raspberry Cordial ( Prince Edward Island’s raspberry soda). We bought some cases back home.
Prayers going up, Charlotte! That is scary indeed! God bless her and her family and you. Keep us posted.
I will be praying for dear Sarah.
46 is so young. My sister died from a brain aneurysm in 2000 from smoking. Brittle veins and arteries from smoking can not do a proper repair. So sad. I hope she pulls through.
Dear Charlotte, I will add your daughter-in-heart to my prayer list.
Prayers for Sarah. It always makes me extra sad when people so young with children still at home have serious health issues. It is a very scary situation. Please keep us posed as to how she is doing. I know David did great after his open-heart surgery and actually has more energy than I do.
My thoughts are with you and your former DIL They can do so much now with bypass.
That Green River sounds like something that I would like.
Just yesterday morning, I noticed the condensation on our windows too, Jeanne, and remember telling Michael! Even with doublepane windows, it looked like we lived underwater! Oh, I can’t imagine going out shopping in that heat and humidity yesterday, Jeanne! Then getting back into a hot car, ugh! Today is supposed to be the last day for this, so hooray! Here’s hoping the wedding this weekend is on the cooler side!
Italian Village looks like it was and still is, a fun place for teens to go to, and “older ladies”too!😉 I see that it started in 1960, which is the year I graduated from high school, and my goodness, how old is that? Sixty-five years ago?? How can that be? I wonder who started the tradition of writing their names on the wall? It certainly makes IV a one of a kind place!
I never heard of Green River soda, Charlotte, and for sure will pray for your former daughter-in-law. What a scary time for her and her children.
Ok, Y”all, I have to laugh about the wet windows, ours are like that every morning all summer, here on the GA coast! No use trying to clean the windows.
Jeanne I love the Pizza place, and ice cream too…I would be in heaven!! So glad you are having fun with your family and that they have you all ready for a wedding. You are so blessed with your sisters!
Jeanne, I sent you some photos, I hope you got them.
Our dear Yard man was here this am, with his teen aged grandson, mowing and
blowing the yard. He has been with us for 25 years. He brought a dozen eggs from is chickens.
We will be going to the neighbors for the Healing and Eucharist weekly service.
Our priests have been doing this for many years because we are 30 miles from our church. I hope the healing works.
Beautiful Sissy
You will be in my heart today
Thank you, Rosemary, you are so kind.
I hope you will be feeling much better, Sissy.
Thank you, Laura,
I am getting a little better every day.
What a truly fun day, Jeanne. Summer is hot, but skittering from AC in the car to AC in buildings can be manageable …..
I love ice cream and pizza. I used to like Panera, but have not eaten there in a while.
I am so happy you had a great day with your sisters. You are very lucky to enjoy that tradition, … well, just that event in our lives. Treasure each other.
Our local Panera has been disappointing.
Today I am staying inside. First, too many mosquito bites, second, I have stuff to do here. Maybe I will sew a little, or just tidy up a bit with my sewing space up stairs.
Thank you for the photos, Jeanne, that restaurant is a treasure. I hope it stays up forever! Here in Northern Virginia, it might have been torn down already. …. or turned into a “halal” restaurant 🫤
Not a clue here but with all of that moisture inside the house, there must be a problem with mold. Or so I think. How do you handle that? A dehumidifier running or a whole house? Just curious. So sorry for everyone in the heat zone. We had about the same temps as Charlotte, yesterday. But, with that huge earthquake in Russia, the whole coast has been under tsunami warning. Fortunately, it looks like not too much wave action although it was dark when it got as far as CA.
We had great news yesterday. In the morning, we were working at the other house doing trimming and filling the yard can. Came home around noon and got lunch. Then later stopped by the market to pick up local milk. On the way home, other person asked if I wanted to stop by the other house and check the mail. I thought it was too early for mail, but we drove up there anyway. As we rounded the corner, I said, slow down because Coco, the kitty there always would jump out in front of the car to greet us. But, that hasn’t happened since her illness and we haven’t had any updates. This has been months ago. Anyway, we rounded the corner and parked. I was going to get the mail, but other person beat me to it. Then, I glanced out the window and saw a flash of spots. Could it be? Was it? It was Coco. Coco had returned to visit us. We could hear her meowing as she ran up. It was just like old times with pets and tons of very loud meows. We were absolutely floored with happiness. Coco was alive. Other person thought that she hadn’t made it and wanted to bring home her food for the cats here, but I refused. Good thing that I did because she was ready and waiting for her usual kibble and treats. Guess she still has a few of those nine lives left. 🙂 What a great reunion. 🙂
Joy, the condensation isn’t inside, but outside! We have a dehumidifier in our house and that keeps the air from being too moist. No problems with mold or mildew.
Oh, I thought that the condensation was inside not out. Here sometimes in the winter when it is cold out, we’ll get a tiny bit of condensation occasionally, but inside. Never outside. Thanks for setting me straight. 🙂
So happy for the kitty reunion, Joy. Nice of Other to surprise you!
We had a dehumidifier put in our home when it was built. We have one that we bought in the upstairs bedroom though. Hope you can get it fixed.
Oh, Joy, I’m overjoyed to hear about Coco. I didn’t ask you again because I figured if you had been told news you would certainly say.
Very smart of you to leave her food and treats there. Again, I’m so very happy to hear the great news.
Thanks to the nice comments about our Coco news. Heading up there in a few minutes to see if she is there today. 🙂
Jeanne, that pizza place looks great- especially since it’s been around for a long place. It’s neat to hear that you went to this place when you were in school!
And glad to know you girls are having a great time!!
Joy, I’m so happy that Coco is ok!!! Yayyy!!!
I’ve been wondering about her!
Dear Jeanne and Sofa Sisters, I found some links to Convention photos online posted by Rachel Hoffman of the Virtual Doll Convention. You might enjoy taking a look.
The Convention theme was Dolls & All That Jazz. The Convention was set in the 1920s/1930s when women wore Flapper outfits.

One of the side trips was to the Barry Art Museum, which has a wonderful collection of dolls. There was an exhibit of fashion dolls that came before Barbie and a tribute to Barbie.

Thank you for posting those links, Dorothy! Lots of eye candy there!
That IV’s looks like a fun place. I think we all have restaurants we remember – some I went to as a very young girl are still there while ones I loved as a pre-teen and teen are either still in business or long gone.
The pizza places that were our top two where I lived as a teen were Godfather’s and Cassano’s. Cassano’s is still there, but Godfather’s was really our hangout.
We have a good pizza place here in town as well and it’s nice to sit on the outdoor patio when the weather is nice and of course there is our diner going strong since 1932 and then the bakery and restaurant still in business from 1864! Yes, 1864.
