Guesses, guesses, so many guesses!

Hi everyone and happy Tuesday to you all,
I wanted to chime in about a few comments but couldn’t find the time to sew and comment, so I just sewed and now I’ll comment.

First of all, Sissy, I’m sorry you won’t be able to return to one of your favorite places you have visited for many many years. I know it hurts but I smiled a little bit for you when I read that you said you thought you were out of tears. Maybe out of tears, but not the memories… they will last you the rest of your life!

Many of you seem to be longing for another visit to some favorite place you’ve been but probably won’t get there. I hope you aren’t too sad over it.

Also, Sissy, you mentioned how you loved this pretty yellow fabric and wished you had some so you could make one of your your dolls a new dress, but it wouldn’t be as nice as mine… WRONG! Sissy, you make wonderful doll dresses and have for years and years. You have great ideas for making pretty outfits and there’s no need to compare your sewing to mine. You even sewed for Helen Kish for many years, I know!

Okay, now I wanted to show you what I got finished today… I also changed the background to the gray suede cloth I used before. I think there was too much light bouncing back and making Molly look so pale.

I already have my story line figured out…and hope you like it… but I’ll save it for the listing on Ebay.

SOCKS with just a bit of sparkle to them…

I decided to go with the black patent leather shoes, but they aren’t included. I only have 2 pair of patent leather shoes and want to keep these… but here is a picture of the socks with them.

Then I made a white tulle SLIP to hold her dress out some. I like this dress pattern and how the skirt is kind of “wavy” but didn’t want to slip to change that too much. The slip didn’t get made quite as full as I normally do, and I think the dress still looks a bit wavy…just what I wanted.

I think this might be a better picture of the back… I was trying out different things on my phone camera.

Depending on how high you pull the slip up on her belly, it might peek out just a little bit below her dress, which looks cute.

I tied some of the same SILK RIBBON on her braids. I’ll send a length of ribbon to the winner and you can cut it in half if you want for braids or just use it as a hair ribbon.

I also found this CANDY for the winner… I went to town the other day and Molly told me to find something that was pink and yellow.. I did!

Now, you all were stumped by what was under the fabric and then what was in the box…
No… it wasn’t a:
School Bag
Straw Hat
Little Poodle
Some kind of pet
Valentine heart
Bouquet of flowers
Bunny for Easter

I stumbled across this at our Walgreens…

An old fashioned RADIO! AND IT WORKS! It takes 2 batteries… I’ve already put some in, and there is on/off button on the side and then you can scan for what you want to listen too. I found Bing Crosby singing on it when my hubby put some new batteries in it. It was really fun!

Molly is very excited to see who gets this fun set. Now it’s up to me to get it listed…I’ll do my best!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I am so happy to see plain black-patent mary janes on her feet instead of the other shoes you had out. That is Exactly what I would have worn at that age (Molly is actually a little “older” than I am–her story takes place in 1944 and I was born in 1946)–but I consider her “my” generation and she was the first American Girl doll I ever bought). Well, I should amend that to say that was what I would have worn once I allowed to wear dress-up shoes (instead of corrective shoes which were, almost invariably, as ugly as you can imagine!) for special occasions.

The petticoat has just the right amount of fullness, I think.

And that radio!!! Well, it looks like I am going to need to get over to Walgreen’s because now My Molly thinks she needs one! (I must be raising a bunch of prima donnas here–first Gigi thinking she should have everything pink that you make, and then Dazzle, who is looking to have a wardrobe to compare with Gigi’s, and now Molly!! Haha)

When I went to the post office today, there was a little package waiting for me–the aqua sweater!! It is just beautiful, and I will take some pictures and send them on to Jeanne as soon as I can. I’ve had my son here over the weekend, so that has hampered my “schedule” (such as it is) a little bit.

A huge thank you to Anne for making and sharing it, and to Jeanne for sending it to me!! I love it!

    1. Charlotte, your dolls are a hoot! It is difficult to be a boss mom when you have those adorable faces.
I am so happy you received the beautifully hand made sweater from Anne via Jeannie. It is really pretty.
Perhaps today is a good day to get out for fresh air (Walgreens). Here in Northern Virginia it is going to be 52º the weather guessers promise.

So glad you have your sweater, Charlotte! As for Molly, I was really tempted to get her when she first came out. She is so cute and I just loved her things that reminded me of those days when I had things like that to play with. I was an adult when she came out, but her story was when I was 6 years old, just perfect timing. I resisted because I didn’t want to start another kind of dolls.

  2. Linda in St. Louis

Oh, that last picture just makes me so happy to see! I love everything about it, and even the cute candy box is perfect for this set, Jeanne! The straw hat that I guessed didn’t make the cut, but this darling little radio is so much better! While I do have Molly’s “official” radio, it sure doesn’t have Bing Crosby singing on it!

There is nothing I don’t like about this set, the dress is just the perfect 40’s dress, and I love the way you have the skirt, kind of “wavy” and the slip holding it out perfectly. I would have loved that as a little girl. And those shoes are perfect too. I am also a bit younger than Molly would have been, but black patent shoes were the thing to wear for fancy occasions, mostly plain black patent ones. The little ruffled socks are so cute and add to the whole outfit! This is as much “Jeanne Marie” as you can get!

  3. Bonjour.

Hello. So, I love the radio and if I could, I would buy the whole set, just for her..! But, I don’t have this kind of doll (here they aren’t very popular) And I’m not even talking about the customs fees… Have a beautiful day to all of you.

  4. Well, a cutie little radio!!! I would have never guessed!
This dress is like a little ray of sunshine and happiness. I love this fabric!
Molly looks quite happy to dance around in this, and those sweet socks are perfect too.
    I love this whole outfit!
I hope everyone has a nice day. I feel like hiding in my sewing room all day
but I might have to go to the old house and muddle through the stuff in the basement, and a few fix up. I have enough mozzarella cheese now and I am going to make some little pizzas in the oven using some whole wheat Naan bread for dinner, a nice reward.

    1. Debbie in North Carolina

Naan bread makes the best pizza! I switched to a wafer thin crust but it doesn’t have the same effect. It is like pepperoni on a cracker.
Good luck with your cleaning project. I need to get in my closets and cabinets. I thought I tamed the beast when we moved 5 years ago but I think I just repackaged everything!

  5. Debbie in North Carolina

Such a cheery dress for Molly! The slip gives it the right amount of poof. I remember stiff crinoline and black patent shoes for nice dresses although it would have been the 50’s.
I did not guess a radio although I just packed away a similar radio that I use for Kit. It came from Hobby Lobby and has a Christmas theme.

Socks and thigh high stockings for AG and LD would be a great addition to your etsy site. They are very hard to find recently.

  6. Joy in northern CA

I do like the photography grey background. Definitely makes the overexposure look disappear. The plain black patent is perfect for this outfit and wow, how exciting for Molly to have her own little vintage look radio. It’s size is perfect for her too. What a fun listing this will be.
With the help of Google, I was finally able to find the serial number for the new range here. Up under the bottom drawer on the edge. Snapped a pic so I didn’t have to crawl down there and try to read it. Now, we can finally get everything registered.
Other person is visiting the dentist for a cleaning this morning, so I’ll be back finishing up dressing little Kelly. Maybe I’ll have time to do some other dolly things too. But, not outside. too cold this morning until the sun melts the frost.
Looking forward to seeing Jeanne’s listing. Love this set.

  7. This dress is so adorable! Everything about it is perfect. The socks and netting underneath her dress enhance it even more. My Molly and her 5 friends love it! ( Btw- I made them all 1950 girls. )
And the radio and the box ! Wow!

Hey, Y’all, I added some remarks yesterday about your kind words about our having our last time to visit Helen. Thank you for caring for us, I was late to write because after our lunch with our old friends, we sat for a long time having a great reunion. We don’t know when we will send them again….more tears at the good by.

  9. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Oh, Jeanne, how caring you are for all of us. I really appreciate your kind words about our last trip and also about your such kind words about my sewing. I do want to sew more soon, you inspire me.
I keep thinking your adorable outfits and they are so lovely and perfect that I think you could never top them but you have done it again, the best ever…I am even tempted to buy a Molly just to bid on it! The outfit, perfect, the netting just so, sweet socks, and the two extras that look as if they were made just for her. I just don’t know how you can make it all so perfect but you always do. If this doesn’t top it all on ebay I won’t know why.

I will try to get you some Helen photos soon.

  10. Molly looks very sweet in her new dress and black patent mary janes are perfect.
I have that exact radio, well actually two that I also got at Walgreens probably five or so years ago now. It’s perfectly doll sized. I’m fairly certain I even shared a photo of one of my dolls in a summer scene with it here. I know I did on the doll board..

  11. Elizabeth in Texas

I love the yellow dress and the black shoes look really good with it but I also liked the black and white dressy shoes you showed with it the other day! I really like how you sewed the buttons on the dress with the matching colors of the flowers on the dress print…a very special touch! And the mini-radio!!!! I must make a trip to a Walgreens soon. I don’t find or see as many doll sized miniatures as I used to when I had a car and drove, back in Indiana.

My Birthday (77th) is coming up next week and my two daughters here in Texas always take the day off of work and plan a celebration day that starts with breakfast out, shopping, sometimes thrift stores, and enjoying dinner out in the early evening, when my son-in-law joins us after work. So, I may need to mention stopping at a Walgreens when we are out and about! Jeanne….did you find the little radio in a toy section or a misc. rack by the front check-out? (I have my rollator out and ready to take with us for any larger stores!)

I’ve been dealing with some health issues, so several different doctor appointments to keep. Had a “breast” scare….thought cancer had returned. Saw my oncologist, had a diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound, and No cancer, thank goodness. I’ve been a survivor for 11 years, but I understand that there can be issues even years later, especially if you’ve had lymph nodes removed.

Saw the audiologist doctor yesterday since my left ear has diminished hearing. It’s the ear that had a tube inserted and then the tube came out of the eardrum on its own three months later. The audiologist’s equipment detected that there is still a hole in the eardrum that has not closed up, and since my ENT doctor was not in yesterday, I have an appt. to see him next week. My hearing is not to the point of having hearing aids, evidently….just really diminished hearing compared to the right ear. The audiologist said there is the “potential” of hearing improvement and so no hearing aid at this time. The ENT would be the one to suggest treatment options.

My annual Medicare wellness check-up is coming up in Feb. and I will do that one by telehealth, but it also means a complete blood lab work before hand. I’m able to take my blood pressure/oxygen level at home and relay that info. Meeting a new Gastroenterologist in March, who is located much closer to our home and he is affiliated with the medical group here, so he will have access to any medical records/doctor visits/etc. instead of me having to request that previous tests/records be sent electronically to a doctor that is not in the same system. And then I need to see a dentist again for an intermittent toothache.

Needless to say, I am looking so forward to a stretch of NO doctor appts. of health issues for awhile and just getting on with living and enjoying art and sewing projects!! The series “The Great British Sewing Bee” (available on ROKU) has kept me company many days. I looked up a release date for the 11th season, here in the US and a date has not been determined yet. So I have been thru all 10 seasons and even started over with season 1! The sewers had so many challenges each episode over the years that I don’t always remember them all so it’s like watching it new again! Great Scott…I think this is one of the advantages of getting older…you can’t always remember how a movie or a book went, so you can repeat like it is the first time watching or reading!!

And I contacted Ruby Red Fashion Friends Co. to see if the Siblie doll, Bailey, has been discontinued or will she be available again. She will be available again in March!

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Wow, Elizabeth, So sorry for all this, but making appointments close together may be a good idea so you can get it over with.
We will look forward to hearing about your birthday with your daughters. I hope you find the radio!

  12. Ingrid B in Western New York

Hi Jeanne… I just wanted to stop by and wave hello! Jeanne, I saw the video of little Ruben walking! Thank you, Jesus! What fantastic news!!! I’m so happy for you all. Onto dolly dress news… I have to say I love this dress. I’m glad you went with the black patent leather shoes they really make the dress shine. Isn’t that radio fun!? I bought one just like it at CVS two years ago during the holidays.
It’s so adorable and I completely forgot I had one until I read your post today. Now where did I put that? lol
Well, I’m worn out and I’m very emotional, the reason… the estate sale people are at mom and dad’s house. They are setting up this week and next week. Hubby and I spent about two weeks going through things. Dad was a saver of ALL things! On my… lol but we managed to sort through it all well most of it I think… we gave some things to Danielle. Put some things in a box for Richard so when his house is ready to move back into, we’ll take his items to South Carolina. I told myself I really only wanted the photo albums but ended up bringing home way too many items that held fond memories. Perhaps after a while I’ll be able to let things go but for now, I’m keeping it. Hubby isn’t a saver and really doesn’t have an attachment to much except for his golf clubs. Even those are updated from time to time getting rid of the old ones.
Oh, something I wanted to ask my sofa sisters. What would you do if your neighbors’ fence was on your property? Would you bring it to their attention? Ask them to move it? We had the property surveyed and the fence is well over a foot on dads’ property. The surveyor wasn’t able to stake that corner.

    Happy Tuesday everyone!
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Ingrid, If you leave the fence as is you may have a real problem if you want to sell the house. You can have stakes of some kind put in, cement is good, by the survey to show where your property ends.
Hopefully you and your neighbor are friends.

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Ingrid, hello. I would try to get an “official” agency to send a note to the neighbor stating that the fence is incorrectly placed. That way you can ask the neighbor to help you solve the problem.

Maybe the neighbor would pay to remove her or his fence and you could pay for the putting up your own fence.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

  13. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Charlotte, enjoy your little jacket. You are very welcome. I would send more to Jeanne and to others who want them but the postage is proving to be an issue for me so will have to put things on hold for now.
Jeanne, the dress is gorgeous, I love it. I remember having one very similar when I was growing up in the 40/50’s. It was almost certainly a hand-me-down, I remember clothes rationing so it must have been still going in the early 50’s.
I just checked up on Google and clothes rationing ended in 1949 when I was 4 years old. I think my mother was telling me porkies. I clearly remember wanting a new swimsuit and being told that she didn’t have enough coupons! I thought sweets/candy/lollies (depending what country you are from) were the last thing to go off rationing but apparently it was meat in 1954.
    Have a good day everyone
