Hi everyone,
My hubby had to go work on something (and he even took Reuben) so I had the whole house to myself! Guess what I did? I got Molly’s dress set listed on Ebay. I wanted to get some pictures of her in the yellow dress outside, but it was freezing and super windy. It wasn’t that cold temperature wise, but that wind made it awful to be out in.
Anyway, I got the deed done… and you can see it on Ebay by clicking the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE.
I took a few pictures for you to see before you go there if you like…
This was a 6 second video of me holding onto Molly so the wind wouldn’t blow her out of the gazebo.
She was able to stand by a tree without blowing over…so here is that one…
I wish I had time to set up a dance area for the girls… but I just needed to get it listed and move on. Boohoo!
It’s turning winter again around here…
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jenne

Congrats on getting Molly’s outfit listed! The pictures look really nice, and I think the fact that the wind was blowing a bit made the skirt look really nice, even in the still pictures. You could see, it had movement.
Ingrid, so good to hear from you on yesterday’s blog. I have been where you are now–getting my parents’ home ready for the estate sale people. It’s an emotional experience, for sure! My parents were savers, too, especially daddy, and I carried many bags of paper for recycling out of that house while I was going thru cleaning up. And after the estate sale, we had a garage sale, and after that, I spent many days down there, deep-cleaning at that house–washed all the walls, woodwork, insides of cupboards, etc., as well as the oven, stove, fridge and freezer. My brother thought it was ridiculous–“you don’t need to clean that oven; they’re probably going to replace the stove anyway!” 🙄 I told him, when a woman looks at a house, the first thing she does is open the oven; if it’s clean, she figures the house is clean. Anyway, I knew if my mom had been able (she had been in an adult family home for three years by the time daddy died, and was unable to even talk by then), she would have done the same thing.
Elizabeth, your birthday plans sound wonderful! How nice to have daughters to do that with. (My birthday–my 80th–is coming up in two weeks. I think my son and I will go out for dinner.) I’m sorry about all the health issues and medical appointments, though. It does seem that life tends to go that direction sometimes! So thankful the cancer did not return. That is a blessing!
What a great listing, Jeanne! I just love the pictures of Molly in that darling dress, and I hope some well deserving Molly gets it!
It is so nice to hear from the sofa sisters that we don’t usually hear from regularly, but we know life throws us challenges now and then, so things aren’t so easy to deal with. I too, have had to clear out my parent’s and in-law’s houses, and know that is not an easy thing to do physically AND emotionally. Then too, not going to places we got so much enjoyment from in the past is hard too along with losing our beloved pets. I feel for all of you.
Sweet photos, Jeanne. (love the video, the wind has been a beast here in No. Virginia)
This ensemble is just adorable.
I feel mostly up to speed with all of you dears, but the old house is a major distraction. So I understand what many of you are up to when you do not post a comment. I remember only a few years ago that I was only reading Jeanne’s daily dreamy posts and not having the time or energy to comment. There were some long stretches of time….
Debbie, yes, I encouraged hubbs (and myself) to take the things that we are even unsure about. So, the house is getting a bit stuffed. Still clearing out is a huge chore.
Yesterday we took the “day off” and I sewed all day (working on a new adorable quilt)
but today is gonna be dreary and I will go over and pick up a few more things.
Sissy, I understand this heavy goodbye, I surely know that just keeping in touch with email and phone calls will help ease the distance. You could try face time. For me and Hubbs it has been a comfort to see my relatives overseas, and his sisters in Michigan just with a video call. Still, it is not the same.
Elizabeth, thank you for sharing all of what you are coping with, yes, we try to cope!
Early Happy Birthday wishes to you!
I hope you endure all of this over a few weeks and be done with it. Find some diversions to bring along, I try to bring little sewing projects, but even just a funny novel, or watching history or travel videos on youtube is kind of helpful.
I completely agree with you about rewatching favorite shows and how much you have forgotten that it is really nice to see it again!
It is a dreary day today. I will get some piecing done this morning so I can feel just agreeable for milling through the clutter at the other house.
Jeanne, this ensemble is such a bright happy sunshiny offering!
Thank you for your kind words about my missing my friends. I will keep in touch and hope one can come visit, the other cannot leave her husband who is ill. We had a really long visit after lunch, caught up a lot.
Well, Elizabeth, I’ll be in the 77, group come April! We’ve both lived through a lot of design eras. 🙂
And Ingrid, I read of your fence problem. Our neighbor had his property surveyed after he measured it himself and found that the neighbor below had put their fence several feet onto his property. So, they talked, and he tore down the old fence and put up a new one on the property line. Of course, he had to pay for it as the neighbor didn’t want to fork over his share, but he wanted his title to be clear when he sells. It’s a good idea to do that before a sale takes place.
Jeanne, please thank Molly for braving the cold and wind for us for that great outdoor video. Really enjoyed it. 🙂
Anyone looking for one of those mini radios can find them, new in box, on Ebay. I almost bought one yesterday. That is if you can’t find one at Walgreens. 🙂
Yesterday, I was able to get little Kelly dressed. Her jacket hangs nicely unbuttoned and her boots were a breeze to put on as they have a great inside leg velcro opening. No need to try to tie those mini laces with this pair. I parked her on the couch, and other person hasn’t noticed. Ha ha
Sun’s coming up over the mountains. Looks like a beautiful clear day. 🙂
We are busy today packing up for Fridays trip home. Peyton’s son and DIL are coming tomorrow, it is only an 2 and 1/2 drive for them. They wanted to follow us all the way home for the weekend but we had to say no because our guest room is covered on the bed and in bins that I am planning to sell, mostly Kish things. So they will leave us when we get to their area. Besides, trying to put every thing away when we get home would not be a good time for company.
We went to the indoor pool Monday. Thank goodness we did not jump in! Peyton has a thermometer to check the temperature and instead of being 88 degrees it was 71 degees!!! The pump broke, so no more swimming. Peyton doesn’t like to walk much because of his poor balance so I took a walk around the place by the river yesterday. The sun was out and it was lovely. It is supposed be 18 degrees Friday morning when we leave. YIKES!
Jeanne, I loved your photos and glad you got one outdoors. I loved seeing her skirt wave in the breeze! I hope I can find time to send you photos. We have a lot of packing today with company coming.
I love the video of Molly in her pretty spring dress. The pictures are great too. I will check out the eBay posting a little later since it is almost lunch time.
I have a chiropractor appointment this afternoon. I will be doing this for another two weeks on Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Then we will decide where to go from there. I really like my chiropractor. She is young and a lot of fun to visit with. I am convinced that aside from the problem this started with most of my trouble has been caused by stress. Too much going on in my life I have no control over at the moment. But I have been doing great so far today. One of my stressors has been caused by the thought of having to get all the things from the garage into the new storage room.
Sounds like it shouldn’t be a problem and when I was younger and before my current problem I actually could have done it all by myself, including moving the boxes of books. But these days I have to wait until the boys are available and can only put post-it notes on the next boxes they need to move. I’m trying to keep the room organized so that over time I can go through all the boxes and decide what to keep and what to get rid of. I just can’t do that right now and the most important thing is to get the stuff out of the garage so we can get the car back in.
Listening to everyone talk about having to go through their parents’ things and decide what should go where, I realized I do not want my children to have to tackle the storage room after I’m gone. That would be cruel and unusual punishment. Many of the things came from David’s parents when they were downsizing to make their last move. I had hopes one day of having a library because David and I both love to read, but these days he’s using a Nook e-reader and it’s doubtful I will re-read most of the books so they will have to be disposed of in some way, probably Goodwill. The product of a long life and long marriage – lots of stuff.
My mother spent the last years of her life living with my youngest sister. She downsized to move in with her and my sister is not a keeper of things so my mother had a bedroom with two closets (small his and hers in what was meant to be the master bedroom) and only had what she needed. My mother was an avid reader but once she read her books my sister took them to the resale book shop where mother picked out new ones and turned in the old ones. Unfortunately I’m not at all like my sister and do tend to accumulate a lot of stuff, but then my sister doesn’t have a sewing/crafting hobby habit which tends to allow for the accumulation of many things.
Hope all goes well with Elizabeth’s many appointments and so thankful that her cancer has not returned. It was great hearing from Ingrid too.
I don’t know about where you live, but here the county library has huge sales twice a year to raise funds for the library. People donate their books there, not encyclopedias, but most other books in good condition and then the volunteers organize everything and price it reasonably. We used to go a lot, and I picked up some great sewing books and other fun things. Maybe your county does that too??
Oh my goodness….thank you everyone who commented on my post from yesterday! It will be wonderful to get past all of the doctor appts. and just “get busy living”, as Morgan Freeman says. Life is a blessing and each day is precious when you’ve mastered health issues and can still read, sew, paint and draw. And Jeanne…I am so happy to have discovered your site and have come to know the “sofa sisters”!
I do read lots of novels….one of my favorite retired pastimes is to read for at least an hour while eating breakfast, at my art/sewing room table. The room is the sunniest room in the house, and I’m surrounded by my supplies, sewing machine, the Ruby Red dolls on two shelves, and there is a TV in the room. There are two white plastic-drawer storage bins in front of the double window on which I’ve placed folded white towels for our cats to be able to look outside. There is a large hanging bird feeder on a short shepherd’s hook about a foot away from the window, positioned by the bushes out front. I enjoy watching the birds flit about as much as the cats do….we get the little red-headed birds and lots of Doves sometimes. Occasionally one will land on the brick windowsill outside since they can’t see the cats.
I am currently reading “Fair Play” by Deeanne Gist. It is about a women doctor /surgeon who is working in the Women’s Building of the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. She meets a Texas Ranger who is also working on guard assignment at the fair…..and the two meet when their paths cross in unexpected ways. The author, Deeanne Gist, researches historical facts and does try to follow history accurately, so reading the book is almost like being there in 1893 and seeing the living conditions of the working classes in a big city. She has also included many old black and white early photos from the Fair and the buildings, and the children and people of that time.
I received a gift card for Better World Books from my eldest daughter, which I haven’t used yet and am planning on looking for more Deeanne Gist’s books! So entertaining to read! I had ordered “Fair Play” from BWB not long ago, and one of the BWB distributing places is located in Mishawaka, Indiana, where I hail from. The book was originally in the Harris County Public County in Houston, Texas! Always kind of interesting to see from what library the books were originally housed.
My eldest daughter is the Dean of the IU Library in South Bend and I believe she mentioned to me one time that two Notre Dame students started the Better Word Books operation some time ago. They have grown with their sales of new and used books and donations and promoting literacy world wide.
I fully understand about the weeding out and letting go of our parents or even our own possessions. My Dad believed in traveling light as my Mom put it….she gave me a shoebox filled with things he had saved….can you imagine, a shoebox. He had lots of tools, some electrical, and his clothes, which Mom gave away. I had made him a new long, lined, corduroy bathrobe…I always gave him a new one each Christmas once he retired…and he had never worn it yet as he was ill around that time and pretty much bedridden, and then passed away early in that January. My Mom asked me if it would be okay to give it to my sister-in-law’s father, and so we did.
My brother passed away last July, and I have really started to think about going thru my things and start unloading some items so it will be easier on my daughters when that time comes. Not an easy thing to think about doing….but I can at least go thru my closet boxes and clothes and weed out lots of stuff. My art room is another story….I use the art and sewing supplies and seeing the dolls on display…so perhaps at a later date I will think about that room! I also have saved lots of the books I had ordered and read from BWB and I generally read some of them again after some time has gone by. Before I moved here to Texas, I unloaded 14 boxes of “stuff” that I decided not to keep or use, plus several pieces of furniture….so that was a big start. I now share a home with my middle daughter and so our kitchen things and furniture pieces have “merged” together and she will continue using most of it, or share things her sisters may want.
Must get back to cleaning up my computer desk area and discarding old paperwork from 2025, to start this new year!
Dear Jeanne, the ensemble is lovely. Some little dolly girl is going to be delighted to wear it.
