Finally, some Flip Flops for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends

Hi everyone,
I was able to talk my hubby into mowing the grass tomorrow instead of today. He had several errands to run so I had the house to myself. Guess what I did? I SEWED!!!

Yes, I did! as much as I could fit in, and what I sewed on wasn’t fabric, it wasn’t even really sewing… but I did use a needle, ribbons, elastic (cording), glue, and leather.

I guess the more I think about it, I PLAYED! Not SEWED! But what I made today went with what I sewed the last couple of weeks. I wanted to make some flip flops for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends boy dolls, and today I did. I got 6 pair of flip flops made.

I was trying to figure out how I’m going to list these… I took pictures of the boys in some of their shorts with the flip flops that went well with those shorts, together so you could see how they looked. But I can just see it now… I’ll match them up and list them and someone will want the navy flip flops to go with a different pair of shorts other than what I have pictured. So, I’m guessing the best thing to do is to list everything separately. I guess if I’m showing a certain pair of shorts, I could mention I have some flip flops that would look nice with the shorts… and let the buyer decided if they need flip flops or not. Do you think that is the best way to sell the shorts AND the flip flops? Separately?

Well, let’s see what I’ve got to show you… (Oh…and I have MORE shorts that you haven’t seen yet…)

I matched up some shorts with flip flops, but after I took this picture I made one more pair to go with the red and navy shorts.

Here are the six pair of flip flops I made today…

Let me know your favorites… :o)

And now… I wanted to answer Linda’s question from yesterday when I showed the tour of my sewing room. She said she remembered I did a post on the DRESSMAKER sign in my sewing room but coudn’t remember where or who it came from… I thought I would share the post I did on it… back in 2016. It was the day before my 60th birthday and Cindy did this for me…

A Sewing Sign was needed….

Here is the post where Cindy finished the DRESSMAKER sign.

The DRESSMAKER sign finished up…

The sign has been moved from one place to another in my sewing room…here is a picture of one of the places it was for a while…

20160829_102937-1

It has been residing in the spot where you see it in this picture for a couple years now…

Well, I’ll try to get to another question tomorrow… along with something else…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, girls, I am blushing!! Really? “Charlotte withdrawals”?! Well, it is so nice to be missed, as I missed all of you while my internet was down. I did get to read blog post about Jeanne’s sewing room (my son let me borrow the “hot spot” on his phone for a while, so I could send a couple of emails, then I pulled up the blog before he left, so I could at least read it, even though I wouldn’t be able to reply). Now I’ve read yesterday’s and the current blog, and will try to catch up.

First, this blog: The flipflops turned out really cute again, as usual, and I see you made another light-colored plaid pair of shorts, which I need to make sure Nolan doesn’t see, as he’ll want those, too!! 😂 As to pricing, Jeanne, I would set a price for the individual items—shorts are price A, flipflops are price B, but if you buy one of each, you get a special combo price. Might that work for you?

Violette’s outfit is just darling, and I am glad to hear you have quite a bit of that fabric left. It looks like something Molly might wear. Maybe a sundress? Or a button-front shirt with a white skirt. Something like that.

Sissy, I am sorry about that tree. I will second what others have said: check your homeowner’s policy as well as your local laws to see where you stand on this issue. Your insurance might cover at least part of the cost for you, which would help.

Barbara, thank you for sharing your good news with us! I know you were concerned about the issue, and I’m glad it worked out so very well for you!

Jeanne, your sewing room looks so organized and lovely! I have never once had my sewing room that organize! Never once! It might have looked more organized 50 years ago when I had less stuff, but, no, that is just not me. I don’t think I have it in me to do that much. I start sorting thru a drawer and get sidetracked by all the neat goodies I find that I’d forgotten about for a while!! 😂🤣😂 Besides which, I’m one of those that has to have all my stuff lying around me so I don’t forget what I have!! “Out of sight, out of mind,” and all that!

Oh, I have to tell you, Ziply (our phone co.) was to be here “between 8 and 12” today, and it was actually 12 when she came. She called about 15 minutes earlier–right after I sat down with my lunch, of course! Anyway, the upshot was, she had to call a line worker and he determined that the problem was with the cable between the pole and my house. Once that was replaced, the tech came back in and replaced the little white box that has all the connections, etc., and I’ve had phone and internet ever since! I’m glad to be back!

Charlotte, I am so glad you are back! I remember well what it was like to be without the blog, when mine was messed up!

    2. Yay, I am glad your internets are back on!
We suffer the most when the internet is down…. but then there are days we have internet just fine, but we are so busy, sometimes I do not get to the emails until 3:00 in the afternoon. Rare, but it happens. For example showing up for the dentist at 8:00AM… or some other early morning escapade. Hooray Charlotte!

Dear Charlotte, yeaaaa, you are back! We missed you.

I told little Miss Charlotte Noelle that your computer wasn’t working. She asked if you took it to the doctor. I told her that there are no doctors for computers. She reminded me that I took my computer to be fixed last year. I told her that I took my computer to a repair shop. She replied that my computer was fixed so the computer shop must have had a doctor. I stopped there and went to put on the tea kettle. I don’t know why she always seems to pull me down these illogical-logical rabbit holes. Honestly, that girl (smile).

In any case, I am glad you are back on the Sofa!

Your Charlotte Noel reminds me of my daughter when she was little. My daughter was so literal. One time I mentioned that she should try to make straight As in school. She said that sounded good to her but how do you make crooked As. Another time I asked her how things went at the zoo that day (meaning her daycare). She informed me they didn’t go to the zoo that day but they would be going soon. What’s a mother to do.

        1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, oh my goodness, you were raising a Charlotte Noelle (smile).

I have no idea why I created that personality for my Little Darling doll. I think I mentioned that I was part of a Yahoo Little Darling site years ago where we could post photos and stories of our dolls. That’s how it all got started. I will have to find a way to do that again. Little Miss Charlotte Noelle always has much to say (laugh).

Yay!!! Your back. Your internet problem was similar to mine. We had the man come out for the line that was down in my yard, which was obsolete, but when he checked my speed it was too slow. He called in a lineman and between them they discovered that all the subscribers coming off one place were all having trouble so they replaced the line with a newer, faster one.

As for sewing rooms. I remember the days when sewing meant buy a pattern and a piece of fabric, some notions and maybe trim, and go home cut it out and make it up. Rinse, repeat. These days my sewing room is home to tons of fabric, trims, notions plus every other imaginable type of activity and all the things it takes to create them. Even have some hat molds and straw for hat making I haven’t even tried yet. Once I got my embroidery machine I had to buy every design available (digital and CD) so I have tons of loose leaf binders with the design pages and the flash drives containing the designs plus all the attachments, hoops, etc. for that machine. Fortunately my mother-in-law gave me her old dressing table which made a wonderful platform for my embroidery machine (since it is wider than a normal machine) and it has lots of nice drawers. And my collection of patterns, especially for dolls, is voluminous. I often think it might be time to clear things out, but when I go to do that I get excited again about returning to some of the ideas I once had and nothing comes of it.

So glad to see that Charlotte is back! It felt kind of strange to be the first to comment yesterday! We are also having computer problems here, but on just two of our computers. The one I really like to use, the desktop, is out of order, and that one was always the most reliable one we had. I much prefer using a mouse versus my finger! The iPad is too “touchy” for me and always doing strange things to what I write. Welcome back, Charlotte!

Ok, now those flip flops are really cute, Jeanne! I really think they could be called unisex, since they could also go perfectly for the girls, but I do see that they coordinate with the swim trunks that you have made, which is a good idea too.

Thank you so much for answering my question about that beautiful Dressmaker sign! I have always noticed it, since it makes such a significant presence in your sewing room. I actually thought it was an antique that you found while treasure hunting in antique stores! I must say that Cindy knows what she is doing! And how in the world did she ever paint like that while sitting on the floor? Boy, is she limber!

  3. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

We are headed for the Y but I have to thank each and every one of you for your kindness yesterday! I will let you know when things start working. We have a Survey friend coming next week to make sure where the line is where the tree started. When we find that we can go ahead and see what we can do with help. Peyton has asked The GA Forestry to check the condition of the tree. We are working on it. It is just so sad that a “friend” could act like this. Also it is so know that I have a seat on the sofa with such loving friends. Thank you!

Jeanne, I know that if I were still collecting dolls i would be buying at least 2, boy and girl, and get them dressed up with your swimming outfits! I can’t wait to see how you sell them and hope it goes really well!

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Sissy, I hope all works out for you with the tree. And I’m sorry your neighbor is not being very neighborly. I’ve had some of them myself at times and it makes life very uncomfortable.

  4. Good morning everyone.
Jeanne, the suits are completely adorable and the flip flops are really really nice.
I do not think I ever had such a fancy pair of flip flops, mine were always, I believe, made of plastic and spongy bottom!!
These look so great on the boys and the suits, I just can’t get over them! I love the madras ones too.
Jeanne, your dressmaker sign is outstanding… it is big and I like that!
I hope all of you are doing great. Thanks for the update, Sissy on the tree situation.
Well, I am just hoping it is not in an urgent situation. And again, I have to mention to keep a steady heart and stay in control with a steady mind. Your neighbor does indeed sound unreasonable but perhaps she is dealing with some of her own overwhelming challenges.
It is difficult but you and Peyton can maintain cool heads.

Yesterday I was feeling very enthusiastic and perky! I went to the house and started packing and repacking all of the items for charity.
I will call them today and set up a day for them to get the stuff.

Friday a fence company is coming to replace the 26 year old fence that looks so so shabby. I am truly shocked our HOA has not sent us a stern warning. Meantime, my neighbor across the street over there got a letter from the HOA in FEBRUARY that their brick on the front of the house was dirty and they had two weeks to clean it!!! -nuts!
Meantime our entire fence looks like, well, imagine a very old crumbling fence.
I did only a little bit of sewing yesterday. I did a lot of pressing out small sections of a new block. I should take pictures and show all of you.
I hope all of you have a good day., I am going to be going back to the old house: just continuing this cleanup process, keeping this momentum I have while I have it… it is a fragile connection 😆😂 and could get “unplugged” easily…. as I would rather be doing so many other things.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

At one of our previous homes we had an HOA (here we have a city that thinks it is). There was a woman who would go around and measure your grass to make sure it was a certain height. But our favorite was a notice we received once in the dead of winter that our lawn needed to be edge at a certain angle. This is why I don’t like HOAs. It was one year when Houston had a very cold winter and we couldn’t do as they said because the ground was frozen solid.

  5. Joy in northern CA

When looking at Jeanne’s dressmaker sign, I noticed that long mirror I love, way up high by a chair. I don’t think we’ve had a pic with it in a long time. I do like seeing the girls/boys looking at themselves and the reflection in a photo. Might be fun to try again.
The thongs, as we always called them, are perfect with the boy outfits. I really like the navy/white for one of the girls because, with boys, I doubt that the white would remain that way for long. 🙂 I’d love to see a nautical/sailor outfit for one of the Ruby Red girls that would include a pair of the navy/white. I love sailor outfits. 🙂
After Trader Joe’s, we’ll see if we can get in a walk, but it looks like the rain is already happening. The weeds will love it, but me, not so much.

  6. Marilyn in Colorado

Agreed with Joy on the mirror and with everyone on Charlotte’s return.

After seeing the flip flops with the shorts, I think I’d sell in sets because your choices are so good. Now you need tee shirts. And sun tops for girls. Or coordinating swimsuits. Summer IS coming. A couple of mini summer wardrobes?

You have a bigger selection of fabrics than most fabric stores. Maybe we should give you a challenge — this color and this doll — what would you make?

There’s a chance we’ll get some rain — this is supposed to be, with March, our snowiest months, but the weather didn’t get the memo. The rabbits are out looking for anything green to eat. They no longer run or act like rocks when people are near. As long as we’re not walking toward them, they just keep eating.

  7. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I think I would give the seller an option to purchase the sandals or not. You could have a drop down box where the seller chooses the shorts alone or the shorts with sandals.

You could also sell some of the sandals alone as there are probably collectors who already have a Summery outfit for their dolls and would like a pair of sandals.

I echo Marilyn, tee shirts would be nice. That way the collector can purchase an entire coordinated outfit.

If you have kites in your toy box, they might make a nice gift to finish the ensemble. I know that sometimes people fly kites on the beach. Just an idea.

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

I love all the shorts and flip-flop combinations, but I think I would sell them separately. And t-shirts and swim tops would be cute too. It’s always fun to visit your Etsy shop.

    Good morning all
Yay, Charlotte is back. I think we are all old enough to remember when there was no internet and no mobile phones, we only had ‘snail’ mail that took weeks from here then weeks to get a letter back. Phone calls overseas were rare and expensive. How things have changed in such a short time. How we have changed! Look at the skills we have learned at, for some of us, what used to be called old! I used to have a very early mobile phone about 2008, only it needed a separate battery which always ended up flat and I never used to answer it. I think I got my first ‘smart’ phone about 2016 so I was 71. Now I don’t know how I managed with a landline. I still have one because it is linked to my broadband account but I hardly ever use it.

Barbara, I forgot to comment yesterday on you issue with the city, I am so glad it has all been resolved, it will be a great weight off your shoulders.

Jeanne, I love your shorts and flipflops. I always called them that as well, in UK, but here in NZ they are Jandals. Personally, I could never wear them, I hated the feel of something between my toes. As for selling them, I like Charlotte’s suggestion, offer them separately but a small discount if they buy both together.

Sissy, I hope your tree problem gets sorted soon without too much cost to you.

Rosemary, keep up the good work, When you have the house finished you will feel such a relief.

If you can, would you please pray for our North Island. They have been battered this last 6 months with heavy rain and flooding and now there is a cyclone heading straight for them. The ground hasn’t dried out yet from the previous flooding. At the moment we have a high that is preventing it from moving east. If the high moves away then the cyclone will move east and miss land. Currently they are issuing warnings for the whole of the North Island, expecting flooding and more landslips on Saturday/Sunday.

Sam and I are going out to lunch today to Charteris Bay. My friend has a holiday home there and has invited us several times mainly on a Saturday, but it always seems to be when we have other plans. This Saturday we have our Alice’s Wonderland quilt class. Anyway, they are there most of this week so we are going today. It will be a late lunch because Sam has an appt at 11.30 but we will leave right after that. She has asked us so many times so I was beginning to worry that she would think I was making excuses so I am glad we have managed to find a time that suited this time. I will take some photos because it is a beautiful bay (I haven’t been to the house before).

    Have a lovely day everyone.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Thanks, Anne. Resolution of the deal with the city is a load off my mind and the fact that it all ended up pleasantly is definitely an added plus since we need these people on our side with the home building. I will definitely pray for the North Island. I think you said you have a relation living in Houston. This sounds like much the same thing they go through at times. It’s hard to believe having so much rain when most of the time we have little, but when it’s hurricane season things can turn bad quickly. One time, Tropical Storm Allison I think, it got stalled over Houston and would not move. Those of us to the west didn’t see a drop of rain and Houston had more than they could handle. You and Sam have a great time and please take pictures. I love rowing to my rowing videos of NZ. Such a lovely place.
