Another question answered today…

Hi everyone,
I don’t know how the day got away from me, but it did and now I’m sitting here at the computer at 11:27pm trying to think of something to share. I have my guest bed full of things… fabrics, bundles of fabric, books, a few dolls, trims and laces, purses, pillows, etc… that I’m wanting to sell. My hubby told me to just try and list 3 things a day. Well, I did… and 2 of them sold on the forum “Selling My Sewing Stuff.” It’s a forum for any kind of sewing things you might have for sale…and I wanted to give it a try. My 2 items were “claimed” by the same person, and she sent me her email address and zipcode. I put the 2 items in a box and weighed them, then went to Paypal and requested the money from her. I’m not sure if that was the way it was supposed to be done, or if I was supposed to get her name and send an invoice… she hasn’t responded, but maybe she went to bed and will answer me in the morning. I’m not very techy and trying out something new, that involves something I don’t ordinarily do, is tricky for me. I hope it works out. I only listed the 2 items on there just so I could be sure I was doing it right and here it is the first sale and I’m already second guessing myself. Oh well, she had a nice name… I hope she’s as nice as her name sounds! :o) The other items I listed were the cloth Hallmark Bicentennial dolls in the house boxes. They went on Ebay as a Buy It Now.

I took all the swimsuits off my Ruby Reds and got them back in their stands and in the dolly cabinet. I had them laying everywhere.

Joy sent me a picture of a flower in her backyard and said this about it:

One of my Orchid Cacti just bloomed. That is my hand/wrist at the top of the pic holding it so I could snap a pic. This is one that my mother-in-law had and should be re-potted as they grow from pot-to-pot or down hillsides in their native areas like South America. It’s really a beauty. I have a friend in southern France that has a lot of them.
Joy

The color is beautiful and reminds me of my wedding bouquet. It had Sonia roses in it… almost that exact same color.

Okay, now for another question that was asked a while back in one of my posts. I wrote them down and have been trying to answer them every so often…

Rosemary saw this picture of my sewing room when I was cleaning it up and asked if the window looked into my living room…

Yes, Rosemary, there is a big opening that used to be a window with glass panes in it that looks out into my living room. It was where the previous owner, (a music teacher), stored all of her sheet music. When we first looked at the house, I claimed this room as my sewing room. I love it because I can still carry on conversations with my hubby or others even when I’m sewing.

It didn’t always look this nice though. My sewing room was actually a porch that was added onto our 1892 house. So, the siding on my wall there is actually the old siding from the outside of the house. I decided to paint it and use it on the inside as a feature wall.

Here is what it looked like when we were remodeling my sewing room a few years ago. The ceiling isn’t curved like it looks like in the first picture. I was using a panoramic setting to get the whole wall in. Once we started renovating the room, it seemed like it went from bad to worse. Everything was a disaster in there!!

Yep, that’s a hole to the outside you see there. There was NO insulation in that wall so my hubby was fixing it.

Well, enough of the ugly pictures…

This is what it looks like from the living room side. This picture was taken a few years ago too. I just LOVE where my sewing room is!

I’ll see everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

It sounds like you are just overwhelmed with “stuff” right now, Jeanne. George is right; do a little at a time, list three items each day…eventually it will get done. Sometimes we have to set limits for ourselves!

Joy, your orchid cactus bloom is just beautiful! The colors are so vibrant and pretty. I remember the times we were in AZ and saw some cacti blooming. Just amazing!

That Sonia rose is beautiful, too! I had Sterling Silver roses in my wedding bouquet–in 1974, that was the only “lavender” rose that was available. About 15-20 years later, the LaVonne rose came out, a truly pretty pinky lavender, and with a nice fragrance, too. Sometimes Ron would get me a corsage of them for our anniversary.

Jeanne, I remember seeing those renovation pictures before! Your sewing room has changed and evolved so much in all the years I’ve been following your blog! New flooring, new pieces of furniture, even new wall decor!!

Well, Nolan is sad tonight because the t-shirt didn’t really fit him very well. It’s too snug, and the sleeves didn’t work out as I’d hoped. However, I am going to try adapting a different pattern, which will yield a raglan-sleeve t-shirt, and it’s just a bit wider than the first one, so maybe it will work. I’m using a little softer knit, too, this time with a football print, and he quite likes that. We shall see. I also checked the Pixie Faire website, and there’s a football jersey pattern that is a “relaxed” fit, that might work, so if what I’m doing now doesn’t cut it, this will be the next step.

I also remembered to take my second finished quilt and the camera to church today, so I got some pictures taken in the nursery again. There’s a big rocker in there that works well to drape the quilt on! I need to load them to my computer yet.

I also took pictures of the snapdragons my friend Jum gave me on Sunday. She said today that she had forgotten to write on the card, but they were a thank you for my playing the piano every Sunday! She is one of the most generous and giving people I know. Ron just loved her, and she, him. She’s from Korea, and of course he served there during the Korean war, which gave them a connection from the start. She also directed him to the people to talk to about donating the slides he took of people and places when he was there, and the Korean consulate honored him with an “ambassador for peace” award and medal as a result! I had it on display at his funeral. He had been so very touched by it.

Sorry about Nolan’s shirt. Maybe it will fit a Sibblie if you have a smaller Ruby Red? Or another doll. Hope so.
Looking forward to your pics too.

Thanks Charlotte on the cactus. They are fun to see in bloom which are sometimes hard to catch. I know that they grow in southern CA, as well.

Jeanne, I hope your sale on the sewing stuff goes through. I tried one of that kind of thing on FB a couple of times. I had some good sales and some bad ones. It seems that some people grab putting their name on something they like and then decide really don’t want it. I would advise you to get the money before you wrap up the fabric etc. Wishes for good luck.
Your Sonia Rose is so lovely. I don’t remember much about my wedding bouquet as my mom had done it, but I had made the hats for my wedding girls. I put Daisies around them to match their yellow gowns. I remember going to a wedding years later when the bride also had daisies on hers. She had been a little girl when she went to my wedding and loved the daises so much she copied them. I was wearing a dress with daises on it at her wedding. She was so pleased.

  3. Excellent post Jeanne.
Wait? The day got away from you? …. huh! that is something I experience almost every single day. You are not alone sweetie!
I hope the sale goes through and you get your money!

Blue Ridge Hospice is coming over the to old house today to pick up EVERYTHING…. Two hefty guys! They will take all that they can fit on the truck. They have another pick up before us, so if they can not “stuff all of our stuff” in the truck they will come on the 30th. Yippie, Me and hubbs, the lazy slowpokes are finally clearing out the house 😂 Anyway, I am sitting here drinking coffee #2 and hubbs is driving over to the old house to meet the guys.
I better get some “magical cleaning” done here while he is gone so he does not think I goofed off the whole time he was gone.

Joy, this orchid is stunning. What a miracle of a flower, just perfect, special delivery to you, right in your garden. The color is just so intense and beautiful. WOW. Your peach rose choice for your bouquet is lovely too. Beautiful photo!!

Jeanne, this is great that your sewing room is right next to the living room and also just the general down stairs area! really nice. I like the window.
Such a great set up. That is how my old set up was …. at the old house. Huge downstairs, and the “morning room/sunroom” was my sewing space. I had more stuff upstairs, but the down stairs space was where I had my neat and tidy sewing space, right next to the kitchen and an open window into the living room/tv gathering space. Super nice Jeanne. I like how this room started. I am glad you had this addition to renovate and secure for such a perfect space!
Now maybe I should perhaps change my screened in porch into a room….

Beautiful story Charlotte! about your dear friend Jum. I hope the snap dragons are happily growing in a pot. Good memories of Ron and his friendship with Jum.
Sissy, nice memory for you two. Sweet having daisies in your wedding bouquet.
    Today is a pretty day.
…. I aspire to get some cleaning chores done. Then I have to hang a shelf in the laundry room and two curtain rods in hubby’s “office of boxes and paper,” and a desk in there somewhere.
My daughter tells me her oldest daughter, Sarah, is a super slow poke getting showered and into bed. She is 11. Her younger daughter is very naughty in the evening. Bed time is not a pleasant time (hours) at their house.
This brought on a memory. When I was a little girl, the youngest of three… and then came my brother the youngest of all of us… my oldest sister, Dorothy liked to have a game in the evening, a contest to see who could get ready for bed the fastest. I can not recall all of the details, maybe just simply getting into pajamas? anyway, she always won. Sometimes I thought maybe she had her pajamas on under her clothes because she was so fast.
I hope all of you are enjoying perfect weather today.

Thanks Rosemary on the orchid cactus. I keep them on a covered porch and under the deck to protect from frost. They seem to thrive on neglect and you never know if one will actually bloom or not. 🙂

    2. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Rosemary, I would have loved Y’all racing to get your pajamas on, so funny and fun. I remember my older son telling me how hard it was to get my granddaughter out of bed, not in. Funny things is he was the same way! He changed a great deal about that as he grew up. it is great that your “stuff” has being taken away to people who need it. What a relief!

Well, that sewing forum sounds like a great place to do some selling. Unfortunately, I am usually a buyer and not a seller, but I should definitely look into it. 🙂 I hope that the sale goes through.
I do remember all of the trials and tribulations of Jeanne’s sewing room remodel. Great to see it again and to remember all of the work involved. The sewing room is such a great space now, and I’m glad it no longer has a leaky roof.
Thanks Jeanne for sharing my cactus pic. It is always fun to watch a little bud develop on them and then surprise, a huge flower appears, usually at night, and is in full bloom for a few days. The tiny bees love it. 🙂
Late yesterday after I could see again, I was back to weeding. Other person actually started taking apart an old wooden shade structure we had over our first deck years ago. He’s going to use the wood to make some new tomato cages as the metal ones were way too small. So, that structure thing is now in pieces that can be used for something else. I’m hoping to get that part of the yard cleared out and be able to use it for something else other than a storage area. There is also a table under the pile somewhere. 🙂 Anyway, now I can plant the tomatoes in one of the raised beds. And get the seeds in as well. I always put netting over the beds until everything gets started, and we’ll definitely need it because Callie Cat has taken over the beds as her napping area. Nice warm, freshly plowed dirt in which to take a nap. 🙂

    1. a wonderful happy day to do all of those things outside!
      Well done both of you.
I washed pollen off of all of my screened in porch furniture. This is our very first ever screened in porch.

      1. Joy in northern CA

I think a screened porch would be wonderful. No mosquitoes or other pests. Should get lots of use, I’m sure. Can you take the cat out there for a change of scenery?

What a beautiful orchid cactus. I’d never seen one before. Outside the Dairy Queen where we eat lunch once a week is a large prickly pear cactus. When it blooms it has the most beautiful yellow flowers. Each year I want to take a picture but forget to take my camera and sometimes I don’t even have my phone. Then it’s too late and the blooms are gone, usually because of a heavy rain. Hopefully I can get one taken this year but it’s almost time to do it if I can just think about it before I get there.

I’m going crazy trying to get my PT started. I was told I would get a call last week but I didn’t. So yesterday I called the doctor’s office (which can be a chore in itself if you don’t push the right number). Finally I got someone and they told me the referral had been put in. Today I called the PT place to verify they had received the referral and wanted to make an appointment. Oops! Can’t do that until they see your insurance and driver’s license. Well I’m not good at popping in and out of my car these days and I have to go to Chorale rehearsal tonight but not until after the PT place closes so I said I’d be by tomorrow. Then I can make an appointment and see where this goes. After doing some research I really feel it’s a tendon/muscle problem so hopefully getting stronger will help that. Don’t have knee or hip pain so I knew it had to be something else. I just feel too weak to walk without my cane, which I’m constantly tripping over so I’ll be glad to hopefully get rid of it.

Every time I see Lavendar she reminds me so much of someone. It finally dawned on me that she looks like my granddaughter, Jaiden. Now I wish I had a Lavendar.

    1. Thanks on the cactus pic. I hope you can get one of the prickly pear. I’d love to see it. Glad you contacted the office directly. I wonder if they would have eventually called you? Anyway, it sounds like you have everything under control. Take care.

    Good morning everyone.
Joy what a lovely cactus flower, and the rose is lovely. I’m not sure if I ever knew the name of the roses in my bouquet but I remember the flowers they were lovely. They were gold roses.
It is 8C at the moment which is quite tropical compared with the last few days. However, no sunshine and possible drizzle.
Jeanne, I joined the blog when you were renovating your sewing room. Back in 2015 I think, or was it 2019? I know it was just after one time I came back from UK.
My cat, Luna, has decided to sit on my lap so typing is very difficult. She has lost a lot of weight so we took her to the vet, she only weighs 3kg and that is 600g less than the last time she was there and they were concerned then. She has to have a blood test, I told them she would need to be sedated (been there, done that!) but they thought they would try anyway! she has to go back this morning and get sedated.
    Have a good day

    1. Joy in northern CA

Oh poor kitty. Sounds like you definitely know best in her care. We picked up some new kitty treats this morning and wow, Callie Cat is in love with them. Hope the vet can figure out what’s wrong with Luna.
