Hi everyone,
I have received some pictures from Charlotte, Joy and Barbara and will start showing them Monday. I wanted to continue with Kirsten and hopefully get it listed very soon. I also didn’t want you thinking about Kirsten’s “droopy” dress over the weekend! :o)
I did get Kirsten’s slip made… it’s just a white tulle slip that will do the job of holding her dress out since the fabric is so soft.
My pictures are combined, so I’ll have to tell you about something else I made… Kirsten received a pair of white eyelet pantalettes to go underneath her dress and slip… Kirsten had pantalettes in her very first Meet dress, so she’s got them again with my set.
Here is the slip over the pantalettes…
I found a pair of white lace up boots (sorry, they won’t be included in the listing). They look pretty with all the other blue and white in this set.
The slip really makes a difference in how the dress stands out…
This was WITHOUT the slip…
…and this is WITH the slip!
Now Kirsten’s everyday dresses were probably more on the droopy side with a simple apron on top, but this dress is just a bit on the fancy side, so I hope the fuller slip will suit everyone.
Here are a few more pictures of the dress with the apron…
I put her hands behind her back and flipped the end of the apron out on one side… it looked so pretty, I did the other side… and took this picture.
Isn’t it pretty?
Now for some flowers in her pail… I had quite a variety of smaller sized ones, so they got picked and put in the pail… colorful and perfect for her new dress…
Now to do something for her head… and this set will be finished!
Ribbons, a bonnet, a big bow tied in back, let her hair down and leave it wavy? Any thoughts?
Well, have a very nice (and hopefully slightly cooler) weekend. I hope to too!
See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Looks like I am first again. The vagaries of time zones.
One of the things I had forgotten was how long it stays light in the summer. It seems odd to go to bed at 10pm or thereabouts and it is still quite light. Dawn is at about 4 am.
Kirsten looks lovely I am sure any dolly would be pleased to have this set but especially other Kirstens. The slip makes the dress look lovely. I like the photo showing how the apron stands out when Kirsten holds it
Nothing to report today. John went for his dental X ray yesterday morning then went to pottery. He is in a communal studio and they leave their pots for others to fire. He spent quite a long time on his last pot and now he can’t find it! I hope someone didn’t break it and hide the evidence. When he got back he had lunch and went to bed. He has a very bad cold, it is a month since I arrived with one so I wouldn’t have thought it would have taken so long for him to catch it off me but I think I am the only person he knows of who has had one.
We won’t be doing much today either. Last year they found out that the foundations of the house were giving way and they needed to do something or the house might fall down! They decided to build an extension to the dining/kitchen at the same time. Since they already had to dig a big hole for the foundations “it won’t cost much more” (builders estimate!) they extended the basement flat as well. Unfortunately, the roof on the extension is faulty and the builders are coming today to fix it so John is stuck at home. No sightseeing but tomorrow we go to my sister in Huddersfield which will be nice as I haven’t seen some of the family yet.
Catch you all tomorrow.
Agree about the light evenings. We went to bed ….. well, broke it up for the night, put the kitty in her room etc at 9:30 and it was just kind of dark. Summer in U.S. has some long days.
I am enjoying the details of your daily adventures!
Sorry your brother has the awful cold. Hope he can right the ship and get over it quickly. Also hope that his pot is discovered somewhere and returned. That would be awful if someone has taken it. Does he sign the bottom?
Really am enjoying all of the great descriptions from your journey. My great greats were from the Somerset area. One born in Bristol nearby. I looked up the address from an 1840 census, and with Google’s help, found that the place is still there. Amazing to me. Same little lane where my ancestors walked.
I have a friend that lives in Scotland and she is always talking about how quickly it gets dark in the winter and how long it stays light in the summer months. Hard to imagine unless you’ve lived somewhere like that. Since we just passed the longest day of the year the days are getting shorter and soon that will be noticeable. David says when the days are getting shorter shouldn’t it be getting cooler. I told him that was pretty much the case when I lived in PA but definitely not here in Texas. I sure hope John’s pot shows up. Losing something you worked so hard on is upsetting.
Hi Anne,
I’ve been enjoying reading all of you adventures, Thanks for taking the time to share them with us. I hope John gets over his cold soon and finds the missing pottery pot. I’m glad to are having a lovely trip.
Anne, you did indeed “beat” me today! But not by a lot.
I’ve enjoyed reading about your travels, the people you’re seeing, etc. I’m so glad you had the chance to visit England once more!
Jeanne, I would imagine Kirsten’s petticoat would have been a cotton fabric, with maybe a ruffle at the bottom. So, it would hold the skirt out a little but not as much as the tulle one does. In the winter, she might have even worn 2 or 3 petticoats, as they would add some warmth on her legs, particularly if one of the petticoats was of flannel.
I love how her pose really shows off the apron. It did turn out so pretty! I wonder what she’ll have for her head or maybe on her hair?
Barbara, yes, I would undoubtedly love the dress you’re working on; hope you are planning to take and send pictures to share!
I will be taking some pictures in the next couple days. I should finish Druanne’s (my Ag Truly Me) dress today. I used the same pattern in a larger size for a dress for my 19.5″ Gotz Hannah and every time I walk in my sewing room and see her standing there, I love the dress more. Couldn’t wait to make one for my 18″ Druanne. I have so many pieces of fabric that have prints that are too large for my smaller dolls so I’m glad to have at least two larger dolls to sew for.
Oh no, I just wrote most of my comment, then whoosh, it disappeared, but it was something I pushed on my iPad, not anything wrong on your end, Jeanne.
Let’s see, what did I say? Kirsten looks positively charming in her outfit, and yes, the petticoat holds out her dress so well. The pantalettes are just the thing to make her look authentic and gives it a “Mary had a little Lamb” vibe! I would just put some pretty blue or white ribbons in her turned up braids, since the petticoat should be the main accent piece in this case.
Per Charlotte’s comment about the petticoat, I do have Kirsten’s actual slip from American Girl, and it is a soft, flannel-like fabric, with several rows of crossstitching around the bottom, nothing fancy, but it certainly does do the job of holding her dresses out, nothing quite as fancy as the one you made.
Since the Fourth is coming up, Kirsten could also have a bucket full of red, white and blue flowers! One more week until then!
I see that I am getting pushed farther down in comments, LOL, since Anne is now checking in first instead of last! That is perfectly fine, since it gives me more to comment about! Anne, I look forward to seeing your comments about your trip, and I think I must be taking it vicariously with you, because I certainly am not going anywhere here!
The dress has come along wonderfully, Jeanne! the skirt looks so much better and the apron so lovely. I wonder if she should have a bonnet since she has been outside picking the flowers. Wouldn’t want her to get too hot, or to get freckles. They were not wanted in those days.
Anne, I hope he finds his pot. I know how he feels about his work as I did that too in college. I hope he feels better soon and you get to go out tomorrow.
Jeanne, I love this dress and the pot with the flowers.
I like the little pants under neath as well.
I kinda agree with Charlotte about the “underskirts”
-light and airy would be difficult to find the perfect fabric, I mean for Kirsten it would have to be very light fabric to get the right look for her dress as small as she is. Still, everything about this outfit is precious!
Will you make shoes? or a cloth bonnet?
Happy Friday again! everyone! I hope all of you enjoy a nice week-end
The last photo says it all. Kirsten looks so sweet with the outfit, apron, and cute bucket of flowers. I love how that clear elastic holds the bucket on her hand. Looks so realistic. The white boots are cute too, and the slip does hold out the skirt nicely. Pantaloons are a plus too.
As to her headgear, maybe a simple kerchief would work, or a band that ties somehow. A straw hat would be wonderful, but might take a huge amount of braid to make a hat in her size. Oh, and I like her braids as they are. So cute.
Well, when I went out late afternoon yesterday after some shade arrived, I found an interesting gift left for me. I had carried the garbage can, tools, and stool to the back fence line to finish up yanking more weeds when Callie Cat showed up. She kind of popped around the can and a strange look to her green eyes. I don’t wear my glasses when I’m gardening usually, so I hadn’t noticed the surprise left for me. As she circled the can, I noticed a black object behind the can. So, I got up and discovered what I thought was a dead rat. Horrors! Literally ran across the yard, up those multiple sets of steps, across the upper deck and charged into the house calling for other person to come out. He had to put on his shoes, but did come quickly. Back outside, across the upper deck, down to the lower deck, down more stairs, across the yard and there I pointed to the black thing. It turned out to not be a rat at all, but a mole. I had seen Callie Cat nosing around a retaining wall and chasing something under the deck, but did not suspect that it was a mole. I kind of felt sorry for it, but when they get into the lawn, they make those raised furrows. So, I told Callie Cat that she had done well and thanked her for the gift. Other person kindly removed it with our removal tool and deposited it in the garbage can far away. So much for this adventure. 🙂
Have a nice weekend everyone and stay cool.
We have a lot of problem with moles here. Our one dog used to love to harass them. She would get hold of one and throw it up in the air, catch it and do it again. If there were dead ones around someone took care of them before I saw them. Thankful for that.
Yes, I was very glad that I didn’t have to have too close of a look at the mole before other person disposed of it. 🙂
Those pantalettes are just what Kirsten needed. I love the photo of the apron fanned out. It looks so pretty. Kirsten must have been wildflower picking as she has a nice assortment in her bucket.
Forgot to comment on Kirsten’s tulle petticoat. yes, I’m sure you did this because it is faster. My daughter has Kirsten’s flannel underwear and the petticoat has a deep quilted border. without central heating girls and women would have wore two or three flannel and or wool petticoat for winter warmth and in the summer a light cotton one.
What a beautiful and certainly unique apron! The best apron ever! It’s perfect for the blue dress with the white boots, especially for Fourth of July! 🎉💥💫⭐️☄️
