Hi everyone,
It was a sewing day for me and I accomplished what I was hoping for…
~ to get the dress hemmed
~ to get the snaps sewn to the back of the dress
~ to get an apron made
I still need to make a slip to hold her dress out… this blue fabric is very soft and doesn’t have as much body as some of the cottons do. When the slip is added to the dress, it will make a big difference. I fluffed it out just a bit and a slip will be nice. I just ran out of time and wasn’t able to get it made.
So, let’s see some pictures! :o)
I have to tell you this… I called my hubby into my sewing room, asking for his opinion on the 2 pieces of eyelet I had pinned together and planned on using for the apron. He thought they looked nice together and then out of the blue said, “I think it looks kind of Swedish-like!” He has NO IDEA she’s the Swedish doll! I told him she was and he had the biggest smile on his face.
The apron had to have an extension added to the bottom of the lace because it was too short… and I liked the looks of this pointed embroidered trim.
I can’t wait to get that slip made and show you how much difference it will make.
Yes, Linda, that little (is it porcelain, ceramic glass? Anyone have any ideas of which word I should call it?) pail is included. I haven’t figured out what I will put in it… maybe flowers in a pretty pink!
Well, bit by bit, I’m getting this set finished. It won’t be long now!
Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, that turned out to be a lovely apron for Kirsten. What a great idea, to put some trims together that way!
As to that little bucket, it looks to me like some of the details are molded in place, in which case I would guess it is a ceramic.
There is great excitement in our house tonight; someone is getting a new JeanneMarie outfit! I will take pictures when it arrives.
How fun for you, Charlotte! I bet I know which one is coming. Happy for you and your dolly.!
Ooooh Lucky girls!
Congratulations on the win!
Congrats on your win. Looking forward to seeing pictures. 🙂
You definitely ae a lucky lady and so is your dolly daughter. Will this be for Gigi or Dazzle or will they share? I think I remember which dolls you have.
It’s for Dazzle. I think she’s a little too small to wear Gigi’s things, although I haven’t tried yet.
Congrats on your win, Charlotte. Can’t wait to see photos although there might be a small squabble as to who gets to wear it first.
I can’t believe I am the first to comment today where is everybody. I am usually the last. Not sure anyone saw my last post which was 2 days ago!
Jeanne the Apron is lovely. So sorry about all your cousins things. Surely storage units should be safe from the vagaries of the weather? They charge enough, here they do anyway.
John is going for a dental Xray this morning then on to do his pottery, not sure if we are doing anything this afternoon.
Yesterday we went to the Botanic Gardens. These are nothing like the beautiful pictures of flowers and glass sculptures that Linda showed us. Mainly trees and hills and more trees and rocky streams. I tell you after all the stairs and all the hills I should be incredibly fit by the time I get home.
When you travel around UK you wonder where they put 65 million people! There are huge swathes of moors and woodland with very few houses! Especially here in the north.
Last evening we went to a pub for a drink. It was built in the 1700’s as an inn. It is the highest pub in Derbyshire and must have been a welcome sight especially to winter travelers since there is nothing else around it. I forgot my phone so couldn’t take any photos unfortunately. On the way home we went through the village of Eyam (pronounced Eem). This is known as the Plague Village. In 1665 a traveler from London arrived in the village suffering from the Plague (it has about a 30 day incubation period so he wouldn’t have known he had it when he set out). When the villagers realised they closed the village and no one was allowed in or out, this was remarkable in that day and age. Other villages brought them food and left it outside the village. There is a whole story on line so I will find the link if you want to read it.
Have a lovely day everyone.
Anne, I read your last comment last night and am so sorry to hear about all the areas torn down, especially the thatched cottage. I visited my older brother when he was stationed in the UK in 1959. We went to a party at one of his friends who was renting a thatched house and I remember how charming it was. The other time I was in the UK on a trip with my mom in 1997 I admired them again. I am glad there are still some there.
Hi Anne. I answered your last post the next day on the blog and made comments too about the torn down memories.
I just had to look up the highest pub in Derbyshire and found the Barrel Inn. Maybe that is the one you visited? https://www.barrelinn.co.uk/
The very one Joy, well done
By the time I had written my post Charlotte had commented so I wasn’t quite the first.
There is quite a lot on line about Eyam but this is one link

Thankyou for this Anne. I am intrigued at the history and beauty
This is another link that has some interesting information on why the village actions are so important today

Thank you, Anne, that was really interesting about the people of Eyam. Just think how many lives they saved but thinking of others.
We have quite the conversation going on this early morning quite early! Oh my goodness, Kirsten looks positively darling in that outfit! Is that little apron what they also call a dirndl in some countries? I LOVE that piece of lace you added to it! That is one thing that makes Kirsten’s outfits look so delicate and original. And to think that back in the older days, everything was done by hand!
That pretty little bucket is the cherry on top! Of course you could not do this, but I would think it could be used as a milk bucket. Try sending a little carton of milk along with it in this heat! LOL. Yes, a sprig of pretty flowers would work best!
Yes, Anne, you ARE early! So good to hear that you have such an interesting vacation, and explaining so many things that we can only dream about here in the states! The information about Eyam is so interesting! I never heard about that, and your stories about thatched roof buildings being taken down is so sad. While my childhood home is still standing, it has been changed, since they added another story to the house, and it just doesn’t look the same. Two of my grade schools have been torn down and replaced with a shopping center and a condo community. Progress is sometimes sad.
Kirsten dress and especially the apron is absolutely beautiful! The lace is so elegant. Hope she’s not going to wear it in a barn to fetch milk! The outfit looks so fresh and very pretty on her.
Funny what George said about “ it looks Swedish !” Ha ha.
Can’t wait to see Charlotte’s outfit she got.
I think I remember which one it is. Something about bring blue?
I love this, Jeanne. Perfect and the apron is absolutely precious. I love it!
Hubbies are such sweeties aren’t they?!!
I am happy at his delight!
Everything about this dress on Kirsten is perfect and well executed! Fine work, Jeanne
It is hot here. I will not complain.
I am going to just pack and move stuff and get out of this house.
Hubbs and I have been very laid back about this move, well, we own the new house free and clear, no mortgage, so clearly, we are just assembling our minds here on how to get stuff moved or cleared out. What a fun adventure when the temps are 100º 😱😂 Okay so the plan is to keep moving our stuff over, then at some point soon, rent a van and get our beds over there, and of course Kitty Princess. This will give us some time to just sit in the house for real.
Later we will get the big movers to come for the big stuff.
And Blue Ridge Hospice come for the other big stuff to donate….
and a few family members to get their stuff…. etc.
Take it easy outside if you must go out there.
Do the mosquitoes love you as much as they love me? I have a big bite on my back that I can barely reach, at the bottom of my left shoulder blade.
Happy Thursday already!!!
Be careful with that mosquito bite. I read that there is a new one around that can actually cause a blood infection. Any swelling and I would have it checked out. And take care in the heat with all that you are doing with the move. Can’t wait to see your new home when it is all done. 🙂
Well, now everything ties together. 🙂 Love the special narrow apron ties with this sweet apron. That lace down the dress front completes the picture. Will she have red boots? Not that the brown don’t fill the bill. Love the little milk pail with the outfit too. Maybe Kirsten’s little kitten is following her trying to get a lick of milk?Your idea of some meadow flowers tucked inside would be cute too. Maybe different colors. some white too, not just pink. Love the blue.
Here, late yesterday, I was able to cut back privet, ivy, and blackberry to uncover the birdbath. It’s a low one that that the kitty around here will enjoy, I think. We also pruned the oleander at the other house and managed to cut a couple of dead branches on the tree lilac. Poor thing is being smothered by a neighbors ugly overhanging tree. Don’t know if it will survive.
Temperature here has been mild, so it has been much more comfortable working outside. But, I think we may get another hot one soon. Sorry to hear about the heat in so many other areas. Miserable especially with the humidity, I’m sure.
Joy, how does your yard get so full of weeds and other things? You work so hard at it, I wonder if next spring it will all be back again? I hope not!
Well, the yard is pretty big and we have been invaded by ivy, blackberry, mint and other things. The only way to get rid of it is to dig it out. Unless you want to use pesticides, which we don’t want to do. It’s heavy clay/adobe soil which is almost impossible to dig as well in the summer. So, even the areas covered with gravel and underlay get their share of weeds. Then, any seeds still around burst into bloom the next year. Nature’s way. I try to get to them before they go to seed, but with just me on it, the weeds keep reappearing. This year with all of the rain we had has made for a super weed bloom. Everyone is complaining. Pulling blackberry with thorns is the worst. We have two kinds, one thornless, but just as invasive. Then, just when you think you have gotten it out, you see sprigs of it returning. Ugh And we have a southern exposure so finding shade is a must to do work out there. Either early or late in the day when shade is cast by neighboring trees is the only time I can really work. We need a gardener to come and do the work, but I’m pretty picky and doubt if anyone would be so meticulous as I desire. It really used to look great out there. Maybe it will look that way again at some point. 🙂
Well, the way you work at it, I am sure it will get better!
We are back from our trip to the Y and grocery store again. Did laundry, playing on the MAC and soon will be preparing dinner, which we eat around 3:00. We try not to eat after 6:00. I sold one of my Meadow Dumpling dolls yesterday, a favorite one but we needed the $ for some work on the house. It was new in 2000 when we moved in, but 25 years can make problems, especially when it was built near a salt water river. Hoping to sell some more soon.
TTY tomorrow.
Lots to do first today so I am finally here. George had really brush up on his PC/AG knowledge. LOL
I love Kirsten’s new apron. The pointed trim is so pretty. The bucket is very sweet. Personally, I would fill it with blue, white, and yellow flowers. Our sunroom is painted blue with all white trim. In the summer it gets touches of yellow. I’ve seen little pail like that before and I believe they are porcelain unlike Kirsten Rowe pottery which is indeed ceramic.
Another beautiful outfit for Kirsten. The apron is lovely and such a clever idea using the trim with the points. How astute of George to notice the outfit was Swedish, even if by accident.
I got the bodice done yesterday afternoon for the pretty dress I am making for my AG Truly Me doll. I was going to add lace to the ruffles but realized I didn’t have enough of the lace for a dress this big but it will still be pretty without it because the fabric is lovely. Charlotte would love it. It’s a floral in shades of purple.
I’m really enjoying Anne’s narratives of her time in England. How wonderful that she got to do this and is keeping us posted daily on her adventures.
I don’t know what the deal is with my name coming up differently. I hit the right thing and when I look it has jumped to the other. Well I’ll try to be more careful this time.
