A VERY PINK POST and something a little bit “snappy!”

Hi everyone,
I had another good day today… I’m sucking on a cough drop as I type this, but it’s just to keep the “cough-meister” from getting ahold of my throat again… :o)

Well, you saw Mae’s brown eyes yesterday, but today Jennifer received her little Twinkles dress set in the mail and you WON’T BELIEVE how much pink her little 6″ Gigi has on. She sent me some pictures and I asked if I could share them. I told her you’d all love them… she even has a pink wig!

Jennifer’s pictures are a bit on the purplish pink side, as it’s really just a pretty bubblegum pink, but you can tell how much Gigi loves it and how sweet she looks in it. She even has a pink puppy and I LOVE her pink shoes! Sometimes a pink wig is the only thing that will do!

Thank you, Jennifer, for letting me share your sweet Gigi!

Now, I’ll show you just a couple pictures of Mae’s dress.

I wanted to give you a mini tutorial and show you how I put the snaps on the back… (Now watch closely, Joy! You just might end up without straight pins in your outfits!) :o) There are several different ways of sewing on snaps and recently when someone mentioned about the snaps on their Ruby Red Fashion Friends doll outfit being sewn this way, I thought on the next outfit I made, I’d show how you do it.

First of all, when I’m telling you how to do it, think of it as left and right as being just that… AS YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE PICTURE.

After you have your back seams all finished on the inside and are ready to sew on the snaps… fold the left side over the right side where it fits nicely on your doll. You can put a pin it in to hold it in place, then turn your doll around and see if it looks like it is in the right place… does it need to be tighter or looser? Now is the time to check the fit.

When you have it in the right spot, place a straight pin just to the right of the folded over left edge… like this…

Now sew the larger piece of the snap (that has the concave hole in it) between the edge of your bodice and the pin…somewhere near the top edge of the right side. (The larger portion of the snap will usually have a hole in the center and you can push a pin up through the bottom and slide your snap on that hole.) You can do it sewing it like I’ve shown here… with only 2 sections of thread going in and around. The other way is to go around all four holes and go in and around… up and down. When you sew a snap on the way I’ve shown here, you DO have to go all the way through to the other side and back up… that’s what holds it on… If you sew it on at the 4 corner holes you can just barely catch the fabric with less of it showing on the other side.

Okay, so we now have the snaps sewn to the right side!

This next part I learned from Marsha Trent of Trentsations on Etsy… She uses glue… and I do a lot of the time now. It’s pretty quick.

I usually just take a scrap of paper and put a dab of glue on it and get a long pin ready to use.

Now take this part of the snap… the part with the little point on it… (in plumbing these would be called Female and Male pieces)

(REMEMBER TO PUT THIS PIECE IN FIRST BEFORE ADDING THE GLUE! I CAN’T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I FORGOT TO ADD THIS HALF OF THE SNAP!)

…and snap it down into the snap back you just sewed on. Like this…

Now, take your long pin and use just a dab of glue on the end of it and spread it across the top of the snap… not a lot, just a bit to hold it onto the fabric… (next step)

Then take the left side of your back and line it up with that pin you first placed on your back and press the snap tightly with your fingers.

I usually hold it in place for maybe 30 seconds or so… making sure you have your back lined up with your neck edge and the pin.

Then very carefully pull the fabric back just a bit till you can see the snap edge… and take your fingernail and stick it in between the snap parts… the top and the bottom… and separate them…

The top section will stick to the left side and be in the perfect spot.

Now you can easily sew the snap on the same way you did the other half… the only problem with sewing them on this way, is you can see where you go up and down and up and down each time. I fortunately had lace covering mine…

You can revert back to the 4 corner method of sewing the snaps on which allows you to only pick up a small section of the fabric on the backside.

So there you have it, perfectly lined up snaps…neatly and easily sewn on without them falling all over the floor.

Let me know how it works for you!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Looks like Jennifer’s Gigi loves pink as much as my Gigi (Ruby Red) does! You all know how every time Jeanne makes something for Ten Ping, and it’s pink, my Gigi thinks that Auntie Jeanne made it just for her! 😂

Mae’s dress is coming along nicely, and I love the combo of blonde wig and brown eyes–so cute!

Thanks for showing us how you do your snaps. I have never tried using glue on the second half of the stamp before; I will have to keep that in mind next time I have to add tiny snaps to a project.

I have made some progress on my Expo twinsie project today–the bag is together and the lining is together; just some pressing and I can put them together. I’ll keep you posted!

  2. Bonjour. Georgina.

Jennifer’s Gigi looks just thrilled in her new outfit! It was a match made in heaven for both of you, Jeanne and Jennifer! All the pink is sure to raise everyone’s spirits and then too, she is all set for Vale tine’s Day, which must be a favorite of Gigi’s, since she already has a pink wig! Such darling pictures! Thank you, Jennifer, for sending them to Jeanne, and welcome aboard to the blog!

Oh Jeanne, Mae looks adorable in the beginnings of a new dress! I can’t wait to see the rest of it!

Well, to tell you the truth, y eyes just glazed over while reading now to put snaps on! Tney have been the bane of my existence since day one in sewing! I’ll take your word for it that that is a good way to attach them! By the way, “someone” has very pretty pink fingernails!😊

Dear Jeanne, I am glad you are feeling so much better. Mae looks happy to be modeling the beginning of her dress. She looks happy with her new eyes as well.

    Always love your tutorials Jeanne.
And that doll all in pink with the pink stuffed puppy! So sweet!!

Hurray for Jeanne. Down to sucking on a cough drop. So glad that you are getting better. 🙂
Gigi’s pink was a wonderful way to start the day. Wow, she really likes pink and wears it so well. Her little bed set is adorable too. Fun.
As to the snaps, I thank you. I’ve been sewing since junior high, but those snaps have never been a pleasure. I haven’t made anything in awhile that requires snaps, so I haven’t been able to try the Ruby Red and Jeanne’s, method of up and down/across. But, that will be the first thing I’ll try next time. However, the added glue may be the big key to the snapaphobia problem here. What kind of glue is used? Must be some kind of quick drying stuff? Loved the close up photos and great explanation too. Thanks Jeanne.

Yesterday, I mentioned about Coco the cat at the other house and her owner’s attempts to locate her. Turns out that it was a catnapping. Coco’s owner went to the house with the last pings from her collar air tag, and the people wouldn’t answer the door although, she could hear them inside. When they finally did answer, she demanded that they return Coco. They denied that they had her, but she knew that they did. They finally returned her collar, but said that she had escaped. Then, her owner threatened to call the police and left. Shortly after, the catnappers called and said that they had found her. Yeah, right. And that she could come and pick her up. Anyway turns out that the teenage daughters there had become very attached to friendly Coco and wanted to keep her. Regardless, keeping someone else’s cat and the neighborhood pet, is a shame. There are so many wonderful cats out there awaiting homes. Coco’s real owner, a thirteen year old girl had been crying on her birthday because Coco was missing. She is now so happy that Coco was returned. However, Coco is on a big time out and will be staying inside until the people move from the AirB&B. So, we are all being punished.
And we are a warm 43 this morning. Cold for us, but we may reach 70 later. Everything is starting to bloom. Crazy year.

    1. that is a tragic awful story with poor lovely Coco being catnapped!
Oh my gosh! How low can you go? How long are these ppl staying in the air B&B? Perhaps your neighbors should all report these horrible humans to the B&B community?
How tragic, I just can not imagine the suffering of the 13 year old girl!

      1. Joy in northern CA

As to the B&B, we’ve heard that they rented it for several months. It’s usually for a week or weekend. Wine tasting, you know. The neighborhood is hoping that the owner will sell it, but it doesn’t look that way.

What are these adults teaching their children? They are teaching that it is alright to take things that don’t belong to you and then not tell the truth when confronted. Someone should report them to the management company for sure. I am glad that Coco is back home.

  7. Stopping by for just a minute. I have a kitty at the vet for a dental cleaning and had to put groceries away.
Mae’s new dress is very pretty, but isn’t she the spoiled one being chosen yet again. I think the other dolls know that she is one of the top three favorites along with Molly and Ten Ping.
Jennifer’s Gigi looks very sweet in all that pink. She is all ready for Valentine’s Day.
Heat wave this morning with 35.

  8. Very pink, wonderfully pink!! Jennifer’s little Gigi is very happy and sweet!
I am so glad to see her in all pink! I love her little smile and dimples! What a cute dolly.

Mae’s dress is starting out perfectly, This lace ruffly collar is just right! and the sleeves, very very sweet! All of this is cutie cute!
Brilliant glue idea for the snaps! Tacky glue dries quickly and is pretty strong, is that what you used? or just plain Elmers?
By the wayyy, your manicure is lovely, Jeanne. You must have just done your nails! I painted my nails RED, as it is the only color I have (any nail polish I had before the move last May is missing? tossed?) last week and my nails look like those of a 5 year old 😝 already chipped ….
Today is the day we finally have a temperature above freezing! 37º for a high today and sunshine. Hubbs claims he is going to clear the other half of the driveway…. but I just stepped out to put a card in the mailbox for pick up…. and I gave that 6+” of snow surrounding mom’s “antique mercedes sporty car” on the other side of the driveway…… and it is solid as concrete and not looking very likely of being wrestled with…. haha
Tuesday already! I hope all of you have Sunshine!

  9. Jennifer‘s little Gigi looks so cute in her pink outfit made by Jeannie. and I love that little pink dog, whose little face looks like it’s smiling up to the camera.

I’m glad I don’t sew after seeing how the snaps are done. I’m leaving comments up to all of you who sew. However, I certainly appreciate all the beautiful clothes that that Jeannie and others make. My mother and sister sewed and even though they tried to teach me, it just was not anything I wanted to learn.
When I read Joy’s article about Coco, the kitty, that really was upsetting to hear of the dishonesty of those people who had her. That is terrible. People like that absolutely disgust me. I will not go on Facebook for the sheer fact that they display animal cruelty. While Coco was not abused, there are so many animals around the world who are abused or and stolen to be abused. I am not a person who is prejudiced, but I am prejudiced against animal abusers.
    Sorry for texting out loud.
Thank heavens there are people like our own Laura who helps the little kitties who have no homes. Laura is wonderful!

    1. Joy in northern CA

I agree about Laura. So kind to take on wild or feral kitties. Not their fault that they are living the outdoor life. Spay/neuter is the best way to prevent the situation, and I know that Laura has taken care of that. Hope the dental cleaning went well for the kitty today.

  10. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

We left early for the Y, the one that we like to go is finally finished and we had a lot of errands to run in the area and got home later than usual. I grabbed more lovely Florida strawberries and have made another bunch waiting to be ready for freezer jam.

I am happy to have time now to read the blog, lots to read today. I love Mae’s coming along, and have to go back to think about that snap trick. The trading lady really got a bargain! Her doll is really ready for Valentines! Love all the pink, including Jeanne’s pink fingers.

So glad the kitty got back to her real home. I had a that happy to one of our dogs, he wandered around and a lady took him. A friend saw him there and told us. We loved that little doggie.

Things seem to be getting a bit warmer here, I hope it is so for Y”all.

Brown-eyed Mae is even cuter than blue-eyed Mae. Now if only I could find a wig like that in AG size.

  13. Jeanne so sweet of you to like one of my tips. I actually used sew glue pen which is temporary. Now I don’t even use it. I just pry the snaps apart with my fingernails and hold it in place. Hate sewing on snaps! Wish we could just glue them on!
Sorry to hear you have been ill. Pray you feel like new real soon. God Bless
