Hi everyone,
Kristoffer never made it over, so I wasn’t able to get Paula’s She Shed video ready to be seen, but I have the post with her descriptions of everything ready to go, so all I need is the video to get put in there… I’ll do it as quickly as I can…
Good news… I am getting there! My coughing has dramatically reduced and last night I didn’t cough any the whole night! That is a BIG improvement! I have laid around so much the last couple weeks, I am still a big sluggish, but I’m feeling much better…
Enough, in fact, to make it into my sewing room. As you can read in my title, Mae is up next… I didn’t necessarily pick her, but this is what happened.
I have wanted to find a pair of dark brown eyes for her for quite a while but was having a hard time locating any. They needed to be 16mm and I wanted them to be glass. The glass ones are so much prettier than the acrylic ones, but they can be quite expensive… I posted a note on a couple of the doll forums that I was looking for some and I got a few bites but still was unsure. Then someone messaged me and said they had accidentally ordered 2 pair of dark brown 16mm eyes and would sell one of them to me for $25.00. She sent me pictures and references of friends I could ask about her selling status. Then I started debating… “do I REALLY need a pair of brown eyes? The blue ones she has are fine…” but while I was debating what to do, she sent me another message and said, “Maybe you’d like to trade the eyes for a little Twinkles dress set you might have… maybe just a dress and a hairbow.” Well, that was my answer… a barter… eyes for a dress and hair bow! Right up my alley! I know it would have been easier to just pay the $25 and be done with it, but I like a good trade and this seemed okay to me. It would be pretty quick for me to whip up a little simple dress and a hair bow.
I sent her some pictures of some fabrics and she picked a pink print… so we were off. She mailed out the eyes the next day and I got busy working on a little tiny pink dress. I worked on it as I felt like it… it took me a few days to make this tiny little set, but it was nice to be doing a little sewing again.
This is what I made her…
I received my eyes right away, but she is supposed to get her outfit tomorrow… They had an ice storm where she lives…
I’ll show you Mae’s new eyes…
These were her blue ones… and I do love them!
Just being silly…I think I’m gonna like them! :o)
And for real… they are beautiful!!!
That’s how she got picked for the next dress… those brown eyes melted my heart…how could she NOT be next?
I also received 3 little stretch bracelets for Mae in with the eyes… She loves them…
Now I’ll give you a few hints on her dress…
You’ll have to come back tomorrow to see more of it.
See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m so glad you are feeling better, Jeanne!! And not coughing all night….well, that is something to celebrate! You just sleep so much better if you’re not coughing and waking yourself up all the time.
That little pink dress set is just darling. You always choose prints that are appropriately sized for the doll intended, and I really appreciate that. I once read a print shouldn’t be larger than your hand size (as a general rule–there are exceptions) and I have used that as a standard in choosing fabrics for doll clothes, too. It’s a real pet peeve of mine when I see what would otherwise be a cute outfit but the print is so big, the main elements are even bigger than her head, let alone her hands!
And what a good trade for you, too–the outfit for the brown eyes. I have a fondness for brown eyes as my son has them. Our family has a preponderance of blue eyes (although mine are more a teal green with gold fleck, as were my late uncle’s), and when we first got pictures of Daniel, I was showing them to my mother-in-law, and we were discussing how he kind of resembled Ron in some ways (Daniel was 3 years old then), “except,” I said, “for his eyes. This little boy has brown eyes but Ron doesn’t.” “But I do,” my mother-in-law said! She told me she had always wanted a brown-eyed child, and all three of hers had blue eyes. She was thrilled to have a grandson with brown eyes!
That is a darling print you have chosen for Mae’s dress, and I like the wide ruffled lace collar you have added. I think this is going to be a really pretty dress.
Gray and hazel seem to be the eye colors in my family. I wanted a child with brown eyes but with David’s eyes being really blue and mine gray there was no chance of that. But I have a cousin who has blonde hair and brown eyes. I always loved the look. Her mom was Hawaiian (her grandmother was a war bride) and had brown eyes. My family always seemed to lack interest in ancestry. I always thought my aunt and her sister looked Hawaiian but when I asked my mother I found she had no interest in knowing. People always called my aunt “Kicki” (her real name was Martha) and I always wondered why. I got told it was because she kicked a lot when she was a baby. It finally dawned on me after a trip to Hawaii that what they were really calling her was “Keiki”. Hawaiian for child and it morphed into Kicki out of ignorance.
You know how I love family history. 🙂 Loved the story about Keiki!
Genetics are so interesting. I’m blue/blond and other person is brown/brown. Both of our girls had bright blue eyes. One had red hair and the other dark blond. All three of our grands have blue eyes. You never know where those genes will land. 🙂
What a sweet story about how Mae got her brown eyes! That was a perfect swap, Jeanne, and Mae looks adorable with brown eyes. I have four sisters, all younger, and we all have different colored eyes. Mine are green, the next sister has blue, than the third sister has light brown eyes, and my youngest sister has dark, almost black eyes! Well, if any one of you remember back in the ‘50’s there was a song Beautiful, Beautiful Brown Eyes. My third youngest sister must have been 3 or 4 at the time, and could not pronounce her “b’s”, so they came out as “d’s”. She heard that song on the radio and loved it because she knew she had brown eyes, so would sing that all the time! I can still hear her singing, “Drutiful, drutiful drown eyes!” Ans she sang it everywhere!🤣
That pretty pink outfit is adorable, and looks so sweet on Bailey! I especially love the embellished jacket that will be a perfect little Easter outfit! It looks like Mae will be getting a new Easter outfit too, That will be one sweet little dress!
Mae’s new brown eyes really bring out her rosey pink cheeks! And I am so happy to hear that you have turned the corner on your cold! Better days are straight ahead!
Loved the story about your sister and her song. Too cute. My daughter never had trouble pronouncing words but she did often have some interesting “phrases”. People often told her she had “beautiful, long blonde hair”. So when she came to ask me to brush it she would say, “Mommy would you please brush my long, beautiful blonde hair”.
Oh my gosh, Jeanne, firstly, huge great recovery progress!. I think I had the very same affliction and it is unrelentingly annoyingly stubborn! I still feel like I am standing precariously at the edge of inviting germy things into my body.
Everyone, keep hydrating and even taking a vitamin C daily! February is the month!
We are fully out of post holiday/happy new year vigor and now, the sunshine is the only strong hold on these days of piles of snow, and where I live, we get wind! It tunnels down to Loudoun County from the north west and brrrrr.
Let’s all get through this month.
Okay then, I hope everyone had a nice week-end.
Jeanne, this dress is so so adorable, I love it. and so cute with the jacket and the bow.
Super sweet.
You are super silly with the eyes and that made me laugh a lot.
Mae is so adorable, I would have three Mae dolls! She is such a little sprite.
The beginnings of this new dress look amazing. This fabric print looks like watercolor
and really perfect with the lace and upcoming poofy sleeves.
I hope everyone enjoys this day, I am finishing up a quilt… well, not that far along,
but it is kind of cute… ready to finish it. I made 16 patches and then added rounded corners so they are 8 in circles. I will send Jeanne a photo, nothing special. In fact I sent a photo to my oldest daughter (no I have not heard anything from my youngest)
and she said, “I like it but it is not my favorite quilt” 😆😆😆 which is something I never heard before haha
Today I am going to try to get a lot of things accomplished. I hope all of you are feeling good and taking care of your dear dollies. I need to dress mine and start some clothing for them.
Love, Rosemary
I know just how you feel, Jeanne – I had the cold/cough right before you did, and the first time I slept through the night after about two weeks of waking up coughing every night, it was such a relief!
I am partial to brown eyes, as my eyes are brown. My dad had brown eyes, and my mom had blue. They had eight kids, four boys and four girls. Four had brown eyes, and four had blue. They liked to keep things even. 🙂
Jeanne, I saw your post on facebook when you were looking for 16mm brown glass eyes. I responded that I have several pairs of eyes from Schoepfers. So if you need any more eyes, check out http://www.schoepferseyes.com. Reasonable prices, too!
My Mae will be keeping an eye on the new outfit you are making. She says I haven’t gotten anything new for her in a long time. I have too many other dollies that want new clothes, too.
Jeanne, I am thrilled to see you sewing and also so happy you spent a cough free night! The little pink outfit is a great exchange for the brown eyes. I am sure the receiver will be very pleased!
I can’t wait to see Miss Brown Eyes in her new outfit. I have been gathering things to go with Anne’s sweater. I love the color but it is hard to find a match.
I am still gathering stuff I no longer use, but I am having a hard time trying to know what to do with my boot materials, made the boots from soft faux leather and fluffy on the other side. I still have so much of the lovely fabrics and trims and the colors I used when I was making the boots and also when I gave SO many workshops. I can’t just through it all at Good Will.
The weather is gradually warming a bit, 30’s instead of 20’s to night. Hope Y’all are staying warm and well.
Wow, for a minute I thought that there was a new pup at Jeanne’s, a Dingo or Australian Shepherd or one of the others with two different colored eyes. 🙂 I’ve left my Mae with her blue eyes, but she is a cutie with the brown eyes too. Great idea on the Twinkle outfit trade too. It turned out very sweet and perfect for any of the upcoming holidays. And Mae looks like she loves those bracelets. So girly. 🙂
I’ve been hoping that Jeanne, has been on the mend, but it sounds like whatever she has been harboring, has decided it likes it’s accommodations. Glad that she is starting to head back to normal. So happy that she is able to do some sewing once again too.
At the other house, Coco, the cat hasn’t been around for three days. Very unusual. I spoke with a neighbor, and she hasn’t seen her in three days either. She is very friendly and roams the neighborhood. Everyone loves her. I decided to contact her owner and see if she was okay. Turned out that her owner hadn’t seen her in three days either, and since she has an air tag on her collar, she thinks that she may have been catnapped. Awful! Last at the air B&B down the street. Her owner was headed there yesterday to see if she find her. My thought is that she could have been trapped in the garage or taken by whoever was staying there. Very sad And, we still don’t know who left a nice cat bed on our porch, presumably for Coco to enjoy.
And, can you believe that Gofo actually delivers on Sunday? I was shocked to see that my package from Ruby Red was out for delivery (within two days) so wasn’t sure of a delivery at all. I happened to think about the delivery around four and peeked out the bedroom window. Oh gosh, there was that big box sitting on the porch. Other person was on the couch taking a nap. Fortunately, he didn’t hear a thing, and when I went into the living room, he was waking up. I asked if he had checked on something on the computer? He hadn’t, so he decided to get up and look. Perfect timing! So, after I was sure that he was in the office and engaged, I opened the door and grabbed the double box immediately taking it to the secret location for opening later. Can’t wait to see the latest pair. Now, I need to get going on the little horse blanket I want to make. You know, it’s the year of the horse this year for the Lunar New Year!
And the Groundhog has seen his shadow this morning. More winter I hear. Keep warm everyone.
Glad you managed to get your next two Ruby Reds in safe and sound. Enjoy !
Dear Joy, we here in PA love Punxsutawney Phil on 364 days of the year. We hold our collective breath on the 1 day that really counts, Groundhog Day. Needless to say we are not happy with this woodchuck today.
So, Dorothy, I understand that Phil, is only correct about 30 percent of the time? Maybe May will arrive with some lovely weather. 🙂
Trade sounds much more exciting… that pink dress set is too cute! And brown eyed Mae is oh so sweet, love 💕
What a great trade. Lovely little spring ensemble for a pair of beautiful brown eyes. It totally changes the look of Mae. Either way she is adorable. I love the start of her new dress. Looking forward to watching the dress develop.
We had a lovely time Saturday at Shen Yun with Sean, Dionne and grandkids. It was cold out and a bit windy but the sun was shining gloriously so the cold wasn’t a problem. We took our car (a VW Atlas) because it holds all seven of us comfortably and we didn’t have to worry about meeting up after parking. They let us into the venue early due to the cold and wind bothering some people but we couldn’t get into the theater until a half hour before the performance time. But there were places to sit and lots of restrooms so everything was manageable. If you haven’t seen Shen Yun it is definitely worth seeing. Afterward I treated the family to dinner at an Italian restaurant near their home. We left for their place to join them for lunch at around 10 a.m. and were back home by 7:30 p.m. I can’t believe how well I held up.
Oh, so happy that you and family had a wonderful time watching Shen Yun. I’m sure it was a memorable performance.
Jeannie, I’m so glad that you’re feeling better and not coughing. Colds like that can really drain you, so you were good that took advantage of resting.
That was a pretty good exchange for Mae’s eyes and the dress you made in exchange is absolutely adorable .
I saw the pictures of the blue eyed Mae and the brown eyed Mae- what a contrast. I really like the brown eyes on Mae. Her whole facial color, pops with them.
Speaking of eyes, my older sister has brown eyes. I have hazel eyes that sometimes have a greenish cast to them in the light and my younger sister is blonde and blue eyed. My mother had kind of bluish green eyes, and my dad had brown eyes. And both brothers had brown eyes. It’s interesting the eye colors in the family.
I love the material you’re using for Mae’s dress- She’s such a cutie and I’m sure this will be adorable on her.
Jeannie, No pressure on my video-If Christopher can get it on there, that’s fine if not, don’t worry about it.
Glad your cough is finally going. I think I prefer Mae with the blue eyes but the brown eyes are beautiful nevertheless. Great trade.
My first and third child had blue eyes and dark hair and my second had blue eyes and blond hair so assumed the fourth would have blue eyes as well but he got the brown eyes with dark hair.
Yesterday it was 29C, so enervating, I just stayed inside with the A/C on except when I had to go to get my blood test and post a card for my son. I did have to water the tomatoes and the other flowers. Today it is only going to be 15C. And rain all day! This summer is turning out to be unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.
Have a great day everyone and stay warm
So, I guess it was around 84 for you? Nice weather if it were here. We hit 70 today and it was lovely. Had lunch on the deck and it got very warm out there. Felt great to get some rays. However, we are lacking rain which isn’t good.
Oh my gosh, Anne! Your weather is noting like ours! Lucky you! The rain will help to keep from getting fires.Looking out the window here, everything is white! However we did get over freezing (32j for the first time in 10 days!
Dear Jeanne, I am glad you are feeling better.
Well, Mae went the “other way” with the classic song. She made her blues eyes brown (smile). She is adorable no matter what her eye color may be. I bet she is excited about her new dress.
That was such a beautiful true story.. I am thrilled to not only have one of the cutest little twinkles sets , but most of all I made a wonderful friend.. this was so special to me, being able to provide something Jeanne wanted and getting a beautiful little pink dress set. She’s so talented I’m amazed at my little set.. it was way more than I expected.. super adorable..
