What could be nicer to look at than dolls and flowers?

Well, I finally gave in and went to the doctor this afternoon. My thumb was just not healing like I thought it should be… and I was finally tired of babying it and it not improving much.
The doctor I saw was a Sports Medicine doctor and he squeezed and felt and bent and pushed on my thumb and then had me get some x-rays. They won’t be ready for a few days, but he said it could just be sprained, or jammed or hyperextended. He said it could also be a stress fracture or a torn ligament or torn tendon, which one of those can be very serious if left unattended.
He also gave me a prescription for a thumb and wrist brace to keep my thumb from moving. I’m supposed to rest it as much as possible too. Just great… but I’ll do it. I HAVE to have my hand back in working order as soon as I can…

So… it looks like I’ll be doing things from my computer for at least a few days until they discover what is the root cause of all this soreness. fortunately I can type, because there is no pressure on my thumb…it just stays pretty flat.

In the meantime, I have some pictures from Theresa S. and she sent a picture of her 4 Ellowyne dolls… They are lovely and each one unique.

First is “Charmed, I’m Sure” Neema from VDC 2022.
Second in line is “Petal Pusher” Ellowyne from VDC 2021.
Third is “Lethal Lizette.”
Fourth is “Great Depression” Ellowyne.

Blessings, Theresa

She said the loves the Ellowyne dolls but sometimes their stilletto heels make it hard to keep them standing up!

I can totally relate to that Theresa… I’ll have to show (soon) what I made to keep my dolls upright in their stands.

Well, we covered the “dolls” part of the title… how about those “flowers” now?

Yes, Linda and her hubby visited the Missouri Botanical Gardens last Thursday and she sent pictures. This will make the cold go away (hopefully… it was like Winter again here today!)

Aren’t they beautiful…and I bet the smell is fabulous! Here are a few more…I love the tulips!

This last group of pictures was taken at the area known as the Japanese Garden. The Japanese Maple trees were spectacular! We were a bit late for the Japanese Cherry Blossoms this year, you can’t catch them all blooming at the same time.

I have to tell you, Linda… this next picture just might be my favorite. I LOVE IT! We have a Japanese Maple in our yard and it’s slow growing but I love it.

Well, that will be it today, whether you love dolls or flowers and trees, I hope you found something today that made you smile.

I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Hi all! Here I am!! Thank you for asking about me. Life took an unexpected turn, and our son has been staying with me for a few days. (I’ve gotten used to being here alone, so it’s been rather exhausting, having someone else to cook for.) He’s with a friend tonight up in Everett as he has more errands up there tomorrow (saw his counselor today) but he’ll be back tomorrow night. As our “guest room” hasn’t been a guest room in many years (sewing and dolls have taken over!!), he is camping out on the sofa. He was fairly distraught when I picked him up (he is carless at the moment) Sun. night, but is gradually regaining his equilibrium, so things are looking better. The first couple of days were pretty exhausting, though. We’ve been to see Ron–in fact, he’s walked over there by himself a couple of times–and things seem to be going okay there, too.

And then our grandson Isaac (Daniel’s oldest) just went back home to Missouri on the bus–he got there Mon. morning–so there was a bit of to-do about that, also. We will miss him.

Thank you, Theresa, for sharing a picture of your Ellowyne dolls with us!! My favorite costume is the fluffy peach one on the left, but I just love the face on Lizette. I’ve thought about getting an Ellowyne in the past, so maybe….but I see that Barbara found one to order, so perhaps “Ellowyne fever” is about to strike! šŸ˜‚

Linda, thanks for sharing pictures of the botanical gardens! I always love to see your pictures of that place–it’s so beautiful!! The pink and purple tulips are just lovely–might be my favorite of the pictures, or perhaps it’s that picture of the round planting of lavender and white blooms. (I’m sure you all know my favorite color by now!)

Hi Charlotte! I like the Lizette face the best, too. Lethal Lizette was one I obsessed over until I was finally able to find her at a reasonable price. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but that’s a snake in her hair. šŸ™‚ The pinky peach dress on Neema is very soft and fluffy, so pretty.

  2. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Charlotte! I see that you have been busy, so you are allowed a day off occasionally!šŸ˜Š. The circle of plants that you mentioned is a design using Sweet Alyssum. You can find those anywhere they sell flowers, and are really easy to grow!

Theresa, your dolls are lovely! My favorite one is the ā€œGreat Depressionā€ Ellowyne. Love that hairstyle and the outfit, which certainly doesnā€™t remind me of the Great Depression!! It looks like a style that would have even been worn in the ā€˜60ā€™s!

Jeanne, Ilā€™m so glad that you are finally getting your thumb taken care of. Better days are ahead! By the way, our local television station did a story on Carbondale last night, how the town is getting ready for the Eclipse! It certainly is getting a lot of excitement around here! Although .St, Louis will only see 92% totality, still, people are getting ready for it. Letā€™s hope the skies will be clear by then, As far as today goes, well, does the song ā€œHere Comes the Kingā€ ring a bell?šŸ˜Š

Thank you for showing my pictures! It certainly was a beautiful day to visit the Garden!

Hi Linda! Great Depression Ellowyne was my first Ellowyne. I love the outfit and hairstyle, too.

Your photos of the botanical gardens are wonderful – especially the tulips! (I love tulips) I think it would be worth a trip to St Louis, just to visit this lovely place. Hubby and I should take a short vacation there some day – looks to be about a six hour trip.

Thank you, Theresa! Yes, you should come to St. Louis sometime and visit the Garden! Every season has its flowers, and I am looking forward to the iris and lilies blooming later this month! Tulips will be a thing of the past by that time, but itā€™s always fun to see what is currently blooming, and something always is!

Dear Linda, your photos are lovely. You are a great photographer! I always love photos with walkways or paths. They draw me in and make me want to explore what is “just beyond.”

Are you, by chance, planning to attend the United Federation of Doll Clubs (UFDC) convention in Kansas City, MO? I will be there.

          1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Dorothy! When you have a place like the Mo. Botanical Gardens to photograph, anyone can be a good photographer! Everywhere you look is almost a masterpiece in the making! I love to see various painters setting up easels and painting flowers and scenes!

As far as the doll convention in Kansas City, I did not know it was going to be there, so had no intention of going. I didnā€™t even make to the one in St. Louis several years ago, but then Covid was the problem then, not so much now. I certainly hope you fill us in on how it goes!

Almost seems like Jeanne, should be seeing a hand specialist, but guess a sports doctor will work. Does he specialize in falling out of bed sports? Just kidding. Hope the doctor views the x-rays quickly and finds that all is well. Very glad that she can still type though. šŸ™‚
Loved seeing Theresa’s Ellowyne dolls and that she knows their providence. Unlike the one here of which I have not a clue.
Linda’s pics of the botanical garden are so refreshing. Just sings of spring. My favorite pic is the one of the awaiting empty bench nestled near the lovely tulips. Reminds me of the song Tiptoe Through the Tulips. Ha ha Such a fabulous place with amazing water features as well. Thanks Linda for sharing and Jeanne too.
And the rain has arrived. No yardwork today for me. Kind of glad to get a break

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Ha, ha Joy, I too remember Tiny Tim singing that song! Also remember seeing him marry Miss Vicky on the Tonight Show! He was a strange one!
Yes, that is a lovely place to sit and just relax among the tulips and take nit all in. We actually did that!

      Thank you for the compliments!

  4. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

I have enjoyed all the photos of dolls and now the lovely flowers. I am so happy that we have such lovely fill ins while that bad thumb heals. I am glad you went to a doc, Jeanne, and praying for a good recovery soon. I am sending some photos today you may want to use.

Dear Jeanne, I think that having a brace will help you to “steady” your thumb. I can imagine it is difficult to wait though. Think of all of the ideas that you have for projects in the Summer and know that you will be able to work on in just a little while.

I loved seeing Linda’s photos! The botanical gardens are beautiful.

And Theresa’s ladies are certainly elegant in their pretty outfits.

Hi Dorothy – Robert Tonner spares no details when he designs the outfits for his dolls. He is such an amazing artist.

  6. Barbara in SE Texas

Loved seeing Theresa’s Ellowyne dolls. The one I ordered is called “Ties that Bind” and her dress is beautiful. There are a lot of lovely patterns by Designs by Jude on Etsy. The only problem with those patterns is they have to be printed on legal size paper. And she has no plans on changing that. I asked. But I have several of her patterns for other dolls and they are great.

Always love seeing Linda’s photos of her trips to the Botanical Gardens. Absolutely beautiful to see. When I lived in Delaware we loved going just over the border into PA to see the wonderful things at Longwood Gardens. I once bought a calendar that had a picture of Bellingrath Gardens in Alabama and I decided I just had to see them in person. Well we tried once and they had been damaged by a hurricane. Another time we tried they were closed so they could redo some things to make the Gardens better. Finally one year on our way to Delaware we managed to finally get to tour the Gardens. They were lovely but we had to tour them under umbrellas. But we were not going to let the weather allow us to put off seeing the Gardens one more time. I don’t think we’ve been back that way since so I’m glad we decided weather or not we would tour the Gardens that day.

I will definitely send pictures of my new Ellowyne. She is due any day now so I will probably include her when I do my Easter/Spring photo shoot coming soon.

I looked up your new Ellowyne, Barbara, she is very pretty, and I agree, her dress is beautiful!

  7. No time to comment this week as my kitty, Truffle who you saw the other day has had a major flare up of her severe asthma this week that has kept me busy with the vet (three times for fluids and/or injections)and additional medicines besides her daily inhaler at home. A sad consequence of her outdoor parking lot life before I rescued her.
Enjoyed seeing all the Ellowyne dolls this week- Susette’s “Drama Queen” and your Jeanne. Great Depression is my favorite of yours, Theresa. She has a younger less mature face which is the doll look I prefer.
Outstanding photos, Linda. I’ll be back to look them over better later. I do love the beautiful purple hyacinths photo and the one with the pink and dark tulips. They look like “Queen of the Night” which we have here.
My favorite photo is the one with the water cascading over the rocks.
Good idea to finally go to the doctor. Yes, a torn ligament or tendon left untreated for too long will sometimes never heal correctly.
