Stella gets new shoes, new thigh highs and Hat #3…

I was trying to be a busy little seamstress and cobbler today! I think it paid off!

First I made Stella some navy blue thigh highs… they look wonderful with her dress, but they are SO SO hard to see in my pictures… when I back up to take a full length shot, my pictures get darker, so I finally just laid her down so the light could hit her legs and you could see them.

After they were finished, I decided to finish her shoes… I put the buckle on them… but then decided they looked a little plain, so I punched out some tiny leather flowers in the green and used a red glass bead, a gold glass bead and an olive green glass bead and stitched them onto the sides of the shoes.

Here are the thigh highs and the shoes together…

Here are a couple short videos of the magnetic clasp on the shoes and how easy it is to use. I sent them to my sister, Cindy, and she said they were either too tiny or too blurry… hopefully, they will work on my post… I am my own videographer, so I either had to try and “buckle” them with one hand, or prop my camera up and try and keep the “action” within the frame of the picture. I think you’ll get the idea of how they work…

So here is Stella in the dress with her navy blue thigh highs on, her new green shoes and her green hat…

… one more…

…and one laying down so you can see the colors better…

Now, I have something new to show you. I was at the Thrift Shop Monday and the green price tags were 75% off. I found this Susan Bristol 100% wool jacket in a salmon color and knew it would look great with this dress too, so I picked it up. It actually had some moth holes in it, but for $1.79, I knew I could get that much use out of it. It has these fun holes punched in the front and on the sleeves. I was hoping to use them somehow, but decided to just use the regular fabric part.

Anyway, look what I made from it…

It is almost like a boiled wool, if you know what that feels like…

It matches the print in Stella’s dress so nicely.

So here are a few pictures of her in the set with the salmon colored hat.

Here is one of her laying down so you can see THESE colors better…

Now, Stella has a dress, some thigh highs, a pair of green Mary Janes, and a green hat and a salmon colored hat. I’ll have to decide if that is enough or if she needs something else.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Wowsa!! That is one terrific ensemble for Stella. I like the green hat but really LOVE the salmon one!! I’m sure she’s spending all day in front of the mirror, going back and forth, trying to decide which one she likes best.

The shoes are so cute with the little flowers!! They really do add a lot to the simple style. I’m sure there are lots of dollies around who are hoping their mommas will be shopping at your atelier!!

Barbara, you are right–some teachers are better at teaching beginners, and others at teaching higher levels of whatever it might be (piano, smocking, whatever….). I hope you find some of those smocking tutorials helpful.

The whole outfit is great! I think the green hat looks best as it ties in with the shoes, but the red hat is a great start on another ensemble. Or maybe a red satchel using some of the holes in the fabric as decoration on the flap. Your best attributes as a seamstress seem to be your imagination and determination!

  2. I wonder if you could use some or all of the rows of punched holes on a salmon jacket. Where the holes turn at a right angle it’s almost as if the decoration has been done for you, maybe embroidery silk run through the holes to accentuate them?

Another beautiful “save” for something you got at Goodwill! I love both the color and fabric, Jeanne, for the new hat, and Stella must really like it too! I like how the Salmon colored hat, and green shoes, along with the dress and tights create a little something that is different, yet very much in sync with each other!

The little flowers on the shoes add just the right touch, and I love the dark thigh highs too, even though they look black on my monitor. Maybe a cute little purse for this ensemble is needed next?

A purse or bag seems to be getting votes. The shoes are wonderful. You need a slide show showing your progression as a cobbler. Have you considered flowers, even a selection of flowers wrapped in tissue to carry out the “fall flowers” theme? A green purse with matching flowers might be nice. The flowers on the shoes are so nice that Id like to see them echoed, even on a leather hairband. I like the length of the skirt for this outfit.

  5. The salmon hat looks gorgeous with her coloring and dress. Would be nice if there was enough of the fringed salmon fabric for a very simple poncho type wrap. Maybe one front button, on the order of a never scarf, loose, no back point if you know what I mean. I’ve seen what looks like a long wide scarf with pockets on the ends for your hands. Imagine what a girl could keep in there.almost a hobo bag ?
I’m not a fan of the dark thigh highs with the green shoes. Striped thigh highs would be cool. See what happens when you get our imaginations going. Love the salmon fabric.

Okay, now Jeanne, has done it. All of those very cute pieces. I would still like to see the first top with a short ruffle pared with a pair of cuffed denim shorts and perhaps red/white striped thigh highs. Maybe a big hair bow for accent in a matching green as well. So much fun going on with the additional hat too. Just think how all of these great pieces can be worn through the season. Lucky Stella. 🙂

I think your shorts and top idea plus striped thigh highs would be totally cute. And the hair bow too. What would Jeanne do without us? LOL

  7. Well if she isn’t so pretty in her tights, shoes and hats. I was SO surprised to see the salmon hat appear. It is cute too. I will never pass up the clothes again at Salvation Army or Goodwill without considering them for the fabric. Is there no Salvation Army nearby? They have several stores here and are more tuned into folks who need clothes at a lower price point than Goodwill while having nicer things.
The flowers on the shoes are perfect. Will she have something to keep her warm?🤔
Visited a doll club members home yesterday. It was in a small town in Iowa and the town had a Courthouse Square surrounded by every necessary kind of store. Beautiful old and new houses. Americana at its best. She has been collecting dolls since she was 12 and oh my dears…never have I seen so many BEAUTIFUL perfect dolls. Maybe we can visit again and take pictures. Her dolls were better than any museum I’ve visited. What a fun afternoon.

Kathie what a wonderful opportunity you had to visit the woman’s collection. Sounds like a great day. What is the name of the town?

I love the color salmon and the additional hat makes for a very versatile outfit. I really like this style of shoe and the flowers really add to them. I like the navy thigh highs too.

When I start to make an outfit for my dolls it always amazes me where it actually ends up. I always try to pick out the embellishments I plan to use before I start and then end up going another way than I planned in my head. I’m making a cute dress for one of my Natterer girls and was stressing some over how to embellish it. It wasn’t easy due to the color and pattern of the fabric. I found some interesting buttons among my stash that actually were in the shape of the flowers on the fabric. The background of the fabric is a deep red and the flowers are kind of outlines in a darker red. But the buttons were too “long” and I couldn’t fit all three of them down the front like I planned. While I was watching TV last night I thought of the buttons and it came to me they might work turned sideways so the longest part was on the width of the bodice rather than the length. I went in an tried them out and I think it will work as I planned but I need to get the skirt on first to make sure. And I’m making really pretty pants and top sets for my Siblies Sydney and Bailey. The pants are finewale corduroy and the tops are long sleeve made with Tana Lawn floral fabric. Right now the fabrics for the two sets are just lying on my worktable and they look so nice I can’t wait to get started on them. I love Tana Lawn fabric and these are small pieces I bought from French Fashions on eBay. They have lovely fabrics in small prints for sewing doll clothes.

Still warm here but in the 80s rather than 100s so it’s definitely an improvement. Very bearable if you are not working in the son as Sean and Jason are. They are working at clearing the property in preparation for developing the land into housing. We are starting with two lots next to our house and will eventually build more where the mobile home park and our three-acre pasture are now. We had several outbuildings that are being torn down and if feels weird to be able to look from our street straight through to the other side of the property a good distance away.

The engineer in Sealy wanted way too much per lot to survey the property but David found a man in Bellville who is much more reasonable and really knows his stuff, including the codes for our town which is home rule. Bellville is still alderman run and doesn’t have all the rules and regulations we have here. This project always seemed so overwhelming to me but it’s David’s field of expertise and he hopes to get Sean started on that path. And with David having the heavy equipment for the sitework and Sean being in the A/C business and us already owning the property outright, the overhead will be far less than if we needed to hire others to do that work and it greatly benefits our family. As well as the city is excited to get more taxable rooftops so they are being more than cooperative. Many, many things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

How wonderful that you and family are able to develop your property. Sounds like a win win deal. 🙂
And I would love to see your Siblie outfits when completed. That Tana Lawn sounds lovely.

  9. I like the navy thigh highs as they don’t break up the “line” from dress to shoes as much. The shoes are really cute with the extra embellishments. The salmon hat is sweet and goes well with Stella’s coloring.

  10. The shoes are delightful! Love the new salmon hat better than the green. A matching shoe leather pocketbook would be great. If not, a matching salmon cape might be fun. The dress is perfect!
