67 years young…

Today is my birthday and I feel very blessed! I wouldn’t mind a 5 being in place of that 6…but I guess it will have to do. My hubby took his first “solo” trip into town today… first time since August 1st and look what he came home with!

I received several birthday cards yesterday but opened them ahead of time! (The birthday girl was needing some love!)
I am going out to lunch today with a dear friend and “I’m going to have cake!” (If it’s available!)

Here is another episode of “Who’s on YOUR Sofa?” This time it’s Linda, from St. Louis. I love the picture she sent! You will too…
This is what Linda shared about her “Sofa” picture…

So the minute you mentioned Dorothy’s suggestion, I remembered this picture, one of my favorites. From left to right, Bitty Baby, Samantha, Annie, and Molly! Annie is my youngest granddaughter, but looks are deceiving. She is now 18!! I just had to send this one, because it is the way I always remember her, even though her doll playing days are over. We had so much fun together playing dolls!

Love to you,
Linda💞

(Linda, we might have to talk you into another picture of all your girls!!)

I have a few more “Sofa Episodes” in the wings… so stay tuned!

Thanks for all your comments on Karen’s girls! Weren’t they adorable?

See you,
Blessings, Jeanne

Happy birthday, Jeanne!! And congrats to George on his first “solo” trip to town! That’s always a biggy, that first “solo” trip after a big surgery or a broken bone (ask me how I know…🙄).

What’s especially sweet is that he thought of YOU when he went to town, and bought you those beautiful roses!! (And I guess that “6” is there, for sure, because I know I’m 10 years older than you, and there’s definitely a “7” in place of your “6”!!

Linda, what a wonderful picture of your granddaughter and those dolls!! It must have been Valentine’s Day (or close to it), with everyone wearing red! Thanks so much for sharing.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

I know what you mean about the “7” thing. You and I are the same age. But a friend of mine who was several years older than me would always say whenever she got teased about her age on her birthday, “It sure beats the alternative”. And since my youngest grandchild is only 2-1/2, I really hope to stick around a while longer.

  2. Linda in St. Louis

Happy, Happy Birthday, Jeanne! What a nice surprise those beautiful red roses must have been! They went to a very deserving person too, from someone who really knows what a treasure you are! I hope today is a day of enjoyment, a well deserved day of doing nothing but what you want, and a telephone call or two from your favorite people!

Jeanne, thank you for showing my picture! Yes, Charlotte, it was around Valentine’s day when I took that, and the dolls were dressed in red, white and pink! I always had that Bitty Baby here at the house for the girls to play with, Samantha belonged to Annie, and Molly was mine. Molly was dressed in a ballet costume, as I usually do for Valentine’s day! We had the best of times playing with our dolls when she came once a week, just like her sister did. That’s how I got started with American Girl dolls! Thank you Charlotte for the compliments! I wish those days were back again!

Jeanne, what do you mean that you need more pictures of my dolls? I keep thinking I send too many! i certainly can send more, but there has to be others that share too!

Happy Birthday again, Jeanne! We love you! 🙂

What a darling picture of Annie! That’s what every sofa needs, grandchildren and dolls.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Susette! It was always a fun day for me when the grandchildren would come !

        1. Sweet memories, I can relate, all of my 3 grandgirls have past the doll playing years. I love your photo.

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

What a precious picture of your Annie and the dolls. She was a cutie. I wish my daughter had enjoyed playing with dolls because she was the perfect age when the American Girl dolls came on the scene. She was born in 1981. That’s why I’m so ignorant about who is who. I remember the very first three dolls but after that I’m lost. I saw the other day where an original Samantha is worth a great deal.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Barbara! My own daughter was in high school when the American Girls came out, so they weren’t a “thing” here back then. I’m so glad I got my two granddaughters when I did, so I could get acquainted with them and start collecting. They are coming out about as fast as rabbits now, so even I am having trouble knowing who is who!

I saw your comment yesterday and that your youngest sister was 8 years younger than you. My first sister and I are 2 years apart but the next sister came when I was 7 and the last when I was 11 1/2 years old. She was just entering school when I was leaving high school.

Dear Linda, thanks for sharing your installment of Stories From The Sofa. Your grand-daughter is adorable. I kept special dolls at my grandmother’s house and she watched over them for me.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, .Dorothy! I guess your grandmother was doing you a favor by keeping those special dolls for you! Are some of them what you have today?

        1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Linda, yes! I have my Chatty Cathy and Kissy dolls. There was a third one but I can’t remember who she was. My younger cousins would visit my grandmother but they were not allowed to touch my dolls. That always made me feel special (smile). Thanks for asking!

Oh, to be 67 again! Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day, the month, the year. The time certainly flies the older one gets. I retired at that age and have no idea where the time has gone, all 15 years of it!. You’re so fortunate that you have something to do that you love and need not retire from, a lovely home and the love of your life to enjoy! Again, Happy Birthday 🎂🎈🎁💐🥰

  4. Karen from Kentucky

Happy, Happy Birthday, Jeanne! That was so sweet of your husband to get you those beautiful roses! You are almost the same age as my mother. She was born in February 1955.

I love your picture, Linda! It is such a great reminder of happy times!

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

I read your comment yesterday. Definitely clothes got passed down and even being the oldest I didn’t get much in the way of new clothing. I had two aunts and a cousin that provided clothes for me. But I realized one day that I remembered the new dresses I got when I started school not because I remember wearing them but I remember my sister wearing them.

  5. Happy birthday Jeanne – I hope your day is a wonderful fun day and you thoroughly enjoy it. What a sweet thing your hubby did – giving you the pretty bouquet.
You are loved and so special to all of us sofa sisters!

Linda, I always enjoy your dolly pictures and it’s nice to see your sweet little granddaughter even though it was back in the day. She’s a cutie!

Sofa sisters… isn’t it Dorothy who gave us the name of Sofa Sisters? I love it – it’s a special name for all of us!

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Near as I remember it was Dorothy. I’m so glad the name stuck. It kind of brings us together from far and wide.

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Paula, hello. Yes, I am the one. I am always naming things (laugh).

I name all of my dolls and then I forget their original names and give them new names and then I forget the new names…well you can see where this is going (smile).

I liked the concept of “visiting” with Jeanne. I thought of us as sitting on her sofa sipping tea or coffee and sharing our day. That’s what friends and sisters do.

I felt connected to Jeanne and to the women who comment here. This is a safe and welcoming place to share who we are. Sooo, I just thought we needed a name. The Sofa Sisters seemed appropriate. I am happy that folks agreed.

  6. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Paula! I do wish those days were back again, but just looking at them brings back the happy memories, and that’s what life is all about!

  7. Wishing you a lovely day and many more happy birthdays, Jeanne! What a sweetheart George is. Hope you get some cake!

  8. Joy in northern CA

Well, a big Happy Birthday to our leader! Wonderful that George, was able to gift you with those lovely roses. 🙂 Jeanne, has some catching up to reach my age. Add 7 years. 🙂
Linda’s photo is tops. What a cutie and not just the dolls. Love it. 🙂
Supposed to be 94 today and 95 tomorrow. Must get out and water early. Hope none of the Sofa Sisters are in the path of the Florida hurricane. Stay Safe everyone.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Joy! I’m glad I could add a bright spot on the sofa today in honor of Jeanne’s birthday!

  9. Marilyn in Colorado

Happy Birthday, Jeanne! I’m 10 years older, so the 67 seems very young to me. The roses are lovely, and you deserve them — AND they celebrate George’s first solo trip after surgery, so they are extra special.

Linda’s picture is a lovely “sofa sister” contribution. I don’t have grandchildren, but my great nieces all have Wellie Wishers, thanks to their great-aunt, so they are on their way.

  10. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Marilyn! Wellies are really fun for the little ones, (and the not so little ones!)

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

You’re right about that Linda. I have Camille and Kendall and they are a perfect size and so cute. I’d love a couple more Wellies. They are fun to sew for. Jaiden has Willa and Ashlyn.

  11. Barbara in SE Texas

Happy, Happy Birthday Jeanne. And what a wonderful birthday present – George being able to go out on his own to pick up a gift for you. I’m sure he enjoyed the opportunity to surprise you. I am almost ten years older than you and all I can say is that the years do seem to fly by after a certain point. Seems like just yesterday I was 67.

Jeanne, thanks for posting Linda’s adorable picture. Is the “who’s on your sofa” an ongoing thing or just a limited time offer? It would be fun if it were ongoing and it would give you a break every now and then.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Barbara! How many Barbara’s do we have here on the sofa? I’m losing track of who I thanked and who I didn’t! LOL. I don’t want to leave anyone out!

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

I think I may be the only Sofa Sister named Barbara. Unlike when I was in school and Barbara seemed to be a prevalent name. I always had at least one other in my class and one year there was three of us. And you’re welcome.

  12. Happy, happy Birthday Jeanne!
What a lovely present from George, the roses are beautiful!
I wish you the best today and always Jeanne. Today is a good day to say how I really appreciate your posts. There is always something we learn from you and the Sofa Sisters contributions are always nice and fun.

Thank you Linda for sharing this lovely picture, Annie has a beautiful smile!

  13. A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, Jeanne. I’m 12 years younger, so I do have a 5 twice. The bouquet of roses and baby’s breath is beautiful. I hope you have a lovely day doing just what you would like.
The picture of Annie is darling, Linda. You must have had such a good time playing dolls. It also started you on a fun hobby that you still enjoy today.. My daughter received Kirsten for Christmas in when she was five. I had bought her just prior to Addy’s 1993 debut. I had been receiving catalogs when there were only the first three. We had such fun playing dolls as well, although I wouldn’t get my own until she started college and had some things returned to me.
Yes, it was definitely Dorothy in PA who named us the Sofa Sisters. A really perfect name.

    1. Thank you, Laura! Yes, I do remember receiving one of the very first catalogs that American Girl came out with, and I was immediately hooked ! I just loved the historical aspects of the dolls and their accessories! You are a couple of years older than my daughter, so are grandchildren in the picture soon? I hope you get to “play dolls” again with a little girl someday, although I think you are doing very well just playing by yourself!

  14. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, Happy Birthday to you. As some of the Sisters noted, 67 is not old. It’s just a number on the journey of life.

You reached this road marker so you go on to the next one. And the most important aspect of the journey is to enjoy it, which you clearly do because you share your joy with us!

I am happy that your husband was able to travel into town to get you the lovely flowers.

You are truly blessed with family and friends. We on the sofa are raising our teacups for a birthday toast! Best wishes for a wonderful new year.

  15. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Happy Birthday Jeanne, and what a lovely hubby you have, the roses are gorgeous. It was my youngest son’s birthday yesterday as well. He was 44. I’ll be 79 my next birthday so very close to the big birthday with an 8 in front of it.

Linda thank you for sharing the lovely photo of Annie. What a lovely memory.
When the kids get back from Australia I will get a photo of Ashley and Kai with the new puppy and my old dog. The puppy isn’t three months old yet and is twice the size of Louis! she is treated like a lap dog now so good luck trying to get that out of her when she is fully grown!!

    Have as good day everyone.

  16. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Anne! So nice to hear from you, and I’m looking forward to seeing your pictures! I already have an “8” in my age, the first one, no less!
