I think you’re going to LOVE Kirsten’s Dirndl “Vest”… TAKE TWO!

It’s not that hard to remove french knots… so I did! I read enough comments before noon to realize “something” needed to change… Now, I know no one was talking about “removing” the french knots, but when I got up this morning and looked at my handiwork in the daylight, I thought maybe the yellow was just a tad too bright… SO… I picked out the yellow french knots and you can see what it looks like here with the two on the left side replaced by the lighter yellow floss… and I only did 3 knots instead of the 5 knotted clusters you can see on the right side…

This picture might show the lighter yellow color a little better…

I liked that so much, I took out the other yellow clusters and replaced them with the lighter yellow floss as well. As I was looking at my work, I thought, “what if I DID fill in those empty spaces with a light pink floss…” so I did that too!!

Then I looked at those pink buttons and wondered if I had anything smaller and lighter pink… I did, so that was changed next…

So my next dilemma was the split collar area… what should I do there? I looked at oodles of buttons, pinning them on carefully and stepping away to see how they grabbed me… I was just about to give up and tie a bow there, but I found some buttons that Katie D. had sent me and I LOVE them… they are little glass flowers in a bell shape… I had the right colors… blue, yellow and green! Perfect!! I added a pink seed bead to the center and strung the 3 colors together and stitched it to the space between the collar points… Thank you Katie!

So here are a few shots of Kirsten with her new flowers and beads! :o)

SOOOO…. what’s the verdict on Take Two??? :o)

I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

It looks fantastic, Jeanne! You know, I didn’t even realize there was yellow in the handkerchief (or the embroidery, for that matter) until I read the comments tonight. Of course, last night I didn’t take time to enlarge the pictures, either, so I guess that’s how I missed it. The smaller, paler buttons are a much better choice, too, I think. And the flowers at the neck are just right.

How nice you have faster internet now!! Thanks to the efforts of Kristoffer. And that really is a HUGE difference in speed!! Mine isn’t too bad (I have wifi) but apparently we are Just far enough from the place transmitting the signal, that it can be spotty at times. Not much they can do unless we go fiber optics, but that would mean our phone line would have to do the same, and, quite frankly, we Like having a landline that we can use during power outages!!

Loaner machines are never as good, in my opinion–you’re just so used to your own machine! Of course, now you have the option of the Featherweight, Jeanne, so you can always sew. Barbara, I hope they don’t hold your baby “hostage” for too long! (Or maybe you’re like me, and have four other machines from which to choose….)

Russell is settling in nicely here, but still a little camera shy. Hopefully this week. Still thinking about his name, too–may give him a middle name and keep his first, or a different first name and use Russell for his middle name. We shall see.

I was told it would be a three-to-five-day turnaround for my machine to return home. I’m okay with that since I am taking the grandkids to Splashway waterpark tomorrow and will probably need to catch up on other things Friday. They asked me if I wanted a loaner but I said I’m good. I do have a Singer Future machine but I put it away to make room for my serger, wihich I could use for the swimsuits and the practice would probably do me good.

Oh, that’s so much better, Jeanne! I felt that the yellow French knots and the pink buttons were fighting each other for attention, and did the vest no favors at all! The softer yellow French knots and pink buttons work so well together now and look like they are friends! 🙂 I was another one who did not see the yellow in the hankie, so wondered why you chose that color in the embroidery.

So glad you have a more reliable computer set-up regarding speed! Where do these young people get that knowledge? My grandchildren can do way more than I can!

Now Kirsten needs some pretty bows in her hair, or maybe a small hat?

  3. Love the changes! The collar flowers are perfect. Now if she only had clogs, (sigh).

Now you’re cookin! Love the changes. Definitely needed some light pink in floss and buttons as well. Perfect match to the apron. 🙂 The button/bells are sweet and a lovely addition to the outfit. Lucky Kirsten. I wonder what she will be doing? Maybe it will be Kirsten’s Lucky Day, when she wears her new outfit and meets a new friend at the church picnic. 🙂

  5. There were so many suggestions and comments by the time I made here yesterday that I didn’t bother to add more to the mix, but it is absolutely perfect now and just what I would have suggested doing to the embroidery, adding some pink and making the yellow more pastel. The smaller and lighter buttons are a plus also. The little glass flowers are amazing! Now Kirsten needs a bonnet or a straw hat. I love Joy’s idea of a church picnic as that was a common social time in the pioneer era… think “Sarah, Plain and Tall”.

  6. I love it and I am constantly amazed at how much patience you have to make all the little things to match exactly!

I had no problem with the previous vest but I do have to say I like this one with the changes better. And I love the flowers at the neckline. Very pretty outfit.

I’m taking my grandkids to Splashway waterpark tomorrow. When we decided they would come out each Thursday we thought the swimming pool would be open. Then I thought we could work on projects which they always say they want to do, but they couldn’t decide what they wanted to do and my suggestions fell on deaf ears. I can only afford one big excursion so tomorrow is it. Then they have one week before they go to church camp which is one week long. Jaiden starts school on 8/10 so that doesn’t leave much of summer left for her after camp. Skyy doesn’t go back until 8/28 so maybe he and I can find something to do. But his mom babysits for a little boy and girl and he likes helping with them so he may opt for staying home until school starts.

I decided to spring for renting a cabana at Splashway this time so I’m not sitting out in the sun all day because except for the lagoon pool and the wave pool I won’t be participating. Thankfully Skyy and Jaiden don’t need supervision and can do things on their own and it is a small local waterpark so I’m comfortable with that. When we used to take our kids to the waterparks in Houston when they were small I was younger and went down the slides myself. Not now. Mostly because I don’t want to climb the umpteen steps to even get to slide.

What a great idea to take the kids to the waterpark. We don’t have any around here. And the cabana sounds delightful. Hope you and grands have a wonderful time. 🙂
