A little more blue for Felicity…

Wow! Thanks for your suggestions on what to call Felicity’s newest Colonial dress. This might be a bit hard to decide! I’m going to write down all these suggestions and maybe run the names by my hubby. I’ve done it before… I put the doll on the table in front of my hubby and start reading off the names. Blue is his favorite color, so he will probably enjoy it.

I enjoyed making the capelet for Addy’s Christmas dress, and had just enough wool felt in this pretty blue to make one for Felicity. I didn’t have any drapey white fabric to make a shawl, so I decided on the capelet.

Here are a few pictures…

You’ll have to check out her new petticoat tomorrow… it’s blue…. :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, how pretty, Jeanne! I love the capelet. It’s just gorgeous, and a nice accessory with her dress.

Lauren, yesterday Ingrid mentioned YouTube videos, to which I agree. There are a lot of the old “Sewing with Nancy” (Nancy Ziemen) shows available, and Nancy showed things so very clearly, I think just about anyone would have learned from her. In fact my husband liked to watch her shows–even though he has no interest in sewing, he always said, the way she presented things made so much sense, and made things look easy! Nancy was quite amused when I told her that back in about 2015 or so (she used to come to our sewing expo every other year, teaching classes and also having a booth where she sold things from her store). When she wrote her autobiography, I asked her to sign it to both of us, because of that, which she did. Sadly, we lost Nancy about 5-6 years ago. She was the best–a terrific teacher, and, in person, sweet and kind.

And…speaking of Expo, I bought my tickets today! It starts on March 2nd, and I will only go for two of the four days. I think I’ve convinced Ron to go to respite care for those days, so I don’t have to worry about him being home by himself. He has just gotten so frail, and, frankly, I do need a little break.

I miss Nancy too. When I started purchasing sewing items online hers was the first site I discovered. I have so many “must haves” for sewing that I got from Nancy. I never met her but do have her autobiography. How wonderful that you got to spend time with her in person. And I totally agree that she made things easy to understand and not so intimidating as some do.

Felicity looks stunning with her red hair, green eyes, and the pretty blue capelet! I also like the fact that the capelet stops short of her sleeves, showing those beautiful whte ruffles! Like I have mentined before, the sleeves are what really makes this dress!

Good idea, Charlotte, to have Ron be taken care of while you are gone, so you can enjoy yourself at the Expo.

I’m not so sure about the flowers on the pretty cape. They seem too modern to me. But, that is probably just my take. Felicity shows off the dress and cape so well. And her hair is a dream. Such a gorgeous girl. 🙂 Let’s see, where will Felicity wear her new outfit? I know, the first trip into town since the snowfall. She’ll look so sweet peering in the shop windows while waiting for dad to pick up supplies. 🙂
Can’t believe that it isn’t raining. We’re getting a break today so hopefully, things will dry out a bit. Around here, it’s a wet bog.

I love the caplet and it goes so perfectly with the dress. Stunning outfit.

I totally agree about YouTube videos. I don’t know what I’d do without them. I am a totally visual learner and reading something in an instruction book is not really helpful to me. Seeing it done works best for me. I was having trouble trying to figure out how to convert my serger to coverlock and even the pictures in the book weren’t doing it for me. I went to YouTube and easily found a video showing how. As usual I discovered it was not all that difficult just had several steps which I could follow in my book once I saw someone do it.

  5. Just having a second, but Felicity’s capelet is lovely. I do have to agree with Joy though that the flowers look too modern. They seem more appropriate for Molly on. Embroidered flowers would be more in keeping for the Colonial era.

  6. It must be critique time. I’m also not in love with the flowers. I’d prefer a different color of strings too. But the dress is so pretty.

Jeanne, how about those ribbon roses on the cape? You do those so beautifully! Maybe a more drapey material for the cape?
