October is for ORANGE, isn’t it?

Before I show today’s post from me… here is something from Karen and sweet little Lilly!

Dear Jeanne,
A Sofa Sister requested to see some Baptism pictures, so I was hoping you could share these. Her Baptism was today, Sunday the 2nd, the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels. The Churching of Women (the blessing of a woman after giving birth), and the Consecration of Lilly Carmelita to the Immaculate Heart of Mary also occurred.

Thanks a lot, Jeanne! Hope you are enjoying the weekend!

What a sweet baby girl you have there, Karen! I hope you are enjoying this new addition to your family! She is a real doll!

Now, for my part… As I said in the title… October is for Orange, isn’t it?
I got to thinking of the colors of the holidays…
January usually celebrates the color White!
February is Red for Valentine’s day!
March is Green for Saint Patrick’s Day!
April and May is generally pastels for Easter…
I don’t think June has a color…
July is, of course Red, White and Blue
August might be Plaids for back to school…
September is browns and golds for the leaves changing…
October is definitely Orange and black…
November… is… hmmm… don’t know!
December is Red and Green…

So back to October… since it’s orange, I looked on my fabric shelf and only had ONE single fabric in orange! ONE! So I looked at my dolls and thought about who could wear orange the best? I saw Bailey, (she’s a My Meadow doll) and she had on this wig that I wondered if Violette could wear. They both have kind of big heads… size 8/9 wigs, and sure enough, it fit Violette and she looked PRETTY cute in it… I know I just made her a new outfit (which surprised me last night with the outcome of the auction!) but she’s just so adorable, I caved when I saw the wig on her and when I laid my one piece of orange fabric across her…

I LOVE her in that big poofy wig of hers, but here she is in that wig I stole from Bailey…

Isn’t she pretty? And here she is in a new blouse made from that one piece of orange fabric I had…

It’s that same Keeper’s Dolly Duds pattern, only I modified the cuff on the blouse…

I added 3 little black buttons on the cuff…

You’ll have to check back tomorrow to see what I have to put with it… hopefully, I’ll have something finished…

Well, that’s it for today.. short and sweet!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Karen, thank you for sharing the pictures of Lilly’s baptism! i particularly like the one of the whole family together with your priest. Those little girls look pretty happy with their new sister!!

Jeanne, it looks like there must have been a last-minute bidding war for that darling outfit for Violette. I’m not surprised at all!

She does look cute with Bailey’s wig, and the orange print blouse on. I wonder, will it be a skirt, or maybe a jumper to go with the blouse?

I’m like you, I have very little orange in my fabric stash; very little brown, also. Those are just not “my” colors, so even when I was doing some quilting, I didn’t often buy them. However, there is no shortage of purples!!

Karen, what beautiful pictures you sent! What a loving family Lillywas brought into, and I also think the the picture of the whole family is special! I love how you explained the rite of Baptism and I know how meaningful it must be to your family. One thing I don’t see are the godparents. We’re they there? When my children were baptized, the godparents were the ones holding the baby, while today, it seems like the parents do the honors. Did all of your girls wear the same baptism gown? That would make it a very special dress, indeed!

Wow, Jeanne, last night’s auction was really something! Congratulations!

Violet the looks amazing in Bailey’s wig. I am confused though, because I thought Bailey was much tinier than Violette, like about 6 inches tall. I might have her mixed up with someone else. That blouse looks like it is the start of something good! Can’t wait to see the rest of the outfit!

Thank you, Linda! If you look closely at the first picture, you can see the Godmother is holding the baby during the actual pouring on of the Holy Water, and the Godfather is supposed to be touching her at the same time, as an outward sign of what is taking place interiorly, i.e. the removal of Original Sin, giving her Sanctifying Grace, and the Godparents truly and in reality becoming her Godparents. If they aren’t touching her during the actual pouring on of the Holy Water, or have a Proxy stand in for them, they do not become her Godparents. I didn’t want to post a lot of pictures of the Godparents because I didn’t ask them if they were ok with me putting them on the Internet. Yes, Marion’s Godparents gave us the Baptismal dress and all of the girls have worn it so far. Marion is almost 10.

I forgot to mention that your church is such a beautiful, traditional one! My own church is also Catholic, but contemporary, so it was a treat to see yours!

🙂 The priests will only celebrate the Tridentine Latin Mass like how it was done before the 2nd Vatican Council for years and years.

Violette looks really nice with that hair color, Jeanne! I like her blouse a lot, too. Thanks so much for sharing the Baptism pictures!

  4. WHOOPIE! That auction was awesome!
This latest orange blouse fits to a T and has personality! You sure got it finished quickly😉 Now the guessing starts to see what will be the next piece.
Little Lilly was so quiet and sweet during her baptism. She must be a good baby.
Your parish must be very traditional. It is nice to see the whole family together.
    Take care..don’t over do☺️

Thank you, Kathy! She actually did cry quite a bit, but I think she just was thirsty. She is very sweet. Yes, the priests will only celebrate the traditional Latin Mass.

Congrats to Jeanne on another successful auction. 🙂
Great seeing Karen’s family at the baptism. Such a special time for everyone.
I like the red wig on Violette as a change. Although the wig she came with is a cute one. 🙂 I think I would like to see that orange blouse with a black skort. They are so popular now with kids. I wonder if the blouse could be folded a little higher up making it more for the younger set? Maybe a narrow black tie as an accent?
After a weekend spent under the kitchen sink and inside the dishwasher, everything is cleaned out and back in working order, it is delightful to see the sun peeking out. Should be a lovely day. 🙂

  6. Jeanne,
Congratulations on your last auction. The outfit is really well made and it deserves all the bids it got yesterday night.

Karen, thank you so much for sharing the pictures of Lilly’s Baptism. I love them, you have a lovely family Karen.
I hope You all have a wonderful week.

I have that blouse pattern and love it. I really like what you did with the sleeves. I’m making some cute corduroy jumpers for a couple of my dolly girls and searched high and low to find a blouse pattern to go with it. I have a ton of patterns but could not find one exactly like what I wanted or anything I could use as a jumping off point. Finally I found a pattern I just bought from a woman in Ukraine. It was a combo pattern for RRFFs and Siblies. The pattern will fit both the sizes I was looking for and I can change it up pretty easily. I only bought that one a short time ago. Glad I did.

Violette is one versatile doll. She looks great in all colors and hair styles. I can’t wait to see what you are going to put with that lovely blouse.

Thanks, Karen, for the wonderful pictures of Lilly Carmelita’s baptism. I noticed your church was traditional and see you still wear head coverings. I’m not Catholic but we always had to wear hats to church when I was growing up. Our Easter outfits always included a new hat. I’m not fond of hats so when I got to my teens I opted for a mantilla. Lilly Carmelita’s dress is lovely. Someone gave me a beautiful candlelight colored Christening dress before Andrea was born. Both my babies wore it and I wanted to continue the tradition with my grandchildren but as it’s said life is what happens when you are making other plans. Tradition isn’t all that important to some family members and some of the babies were too big for the dress. Azure was born during COVID protocols and they weren’t doing baptisms so he sure didn’t fit the dress by the time he was baptized. Sadly my religion seems to be moving further and further from tradition which doesn’t please me, but David (a convert) says as long as the liturgy doesn’t change he will remain and we love the people at our church. They are traditionalists it’s the hierarchy that’s changed.

My heart breaks for all the people who are suffering from Ian and they are in my prayers. I have friends in Key West and Bradenton and my sister has a home near West Palm Beach. David has a good friend in Myrtle Beach, SC. My friend in Key West says they’ve had some damage but are still functioning. My friend in Bradenton and her family are all fine and we haven’t heard from David’s friend in SC because I’m sure they have no power. Since my sister is in Delaware at the moment but has relatives in Florida, she is waiting for an assessment of her property but she was not in the target zone.

So I’m not complaining at all when I say I’m in the midst of a mess here. but thankfully it’s only a portion of my house that’s being torn up. They are taking the closet out of the breezeway to make it the access to our new addition from the house. It is an inconvenient closet at best and will be replaced with a better one in the new laundry room. My job today was to take the coats out of the closet and the other stuff stored there. It is a closet we don’t get into except in the winter and the stuff stored in there is rarely used and probably needs to be done away with. But what I hadn’t anticipated was the mess I was going to get into. It seems a mouse has been setting up housekeeping in there for the winter and sharing Chelsy’s dog food. We came face-to-face when I was taking the last of the coats out. He is so cute but refuses to pay rent so he can’t stay. I was hoping to be able to open the back door and let him out but he was too fast and now he is in my study somewhere. Or he has made his way outside. I need to find him so he doesn’t get in my sewing room. This is the part of remodeling I’m not fond of. The point where everything is torn out that needs to be so changes can happen. Hopefully they will come quickly.

  8. Dear Karen, thank you ever so much for sending the precious photos of Lilly’s baptism. The photo of your whole family with your priest is a real keepsake. You should have that one enlarged. You have such a lovely family.
The baptismal dress is just beautiful and how special that all your girls have worn it. I’m sure they are all enjoy their new sister. She is so sweet.
It’s so nice that your church is traditional. Ours is as well with the liturgy and the old hymns.

Violette looks really cute in the new wig. A wig change and you have a completely different doll. Her new blouse very cute. Looking forward to seeing what you put with it.

  9. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Karen it was great to see your photos, you have a lovely family. Your girls all look wonderful. What a loving family you have. The church looks nice too. Unfortunately we have very few of the old churches left in Christchurch. Most were severely damaged in our earthquakes including the Cathedral which was almost in it’s path. They are rebuilding it but it took ten years of court cases to get to that stage. The church hierarchy wanted to build a new one which would have been half the cost but eventually they had to give in, so did the council (i.e. the ratepayers) who have to pay half the cost. The Catholic Cathedral had even more damage as it was right on the fault line and that will be rebuilt new I believe. Certainly the site has been cleared.
As an aside to that, the church leaders got together just after the earthquake in February 2011 to see what help they could give to those who were suffering. They were interrupted by a group who tried to tell them it was all their fault and this was God’s judgement on Christchurch!!! I believe they were quickly removed and told not to come back (though probably not as politely as that). The then Dean of Christchurch said “it was the earth doing what the earth does” which was a much more believable response.

Jeanne what an amazing result for your auction. It was over $300 NZ. Unbelievable.
I love the blouse. Like Charlotte I am not an orange fan but it really is a lovely fabric and a lovely blouse altogether.

Barbara, I found we had mice in our garage several years ago. We had a cat but he was pretty old by then and his hunting days were over. When he died I got a new kitten, Luna. She was quite a hunter and I often got ‘gifts’ but she, unfortunately, preferred birds and butterflies. When Sam moved in with her cats I was sure I still had mice but I think they were mostly in the roof space and Luna wasn’t much of a climber. Sam’s young one, Pearl, was both a climber and a hunter. I’m pretty sure we have seen the last of the mice. I think they left for safer climes!
