Wasn’t it FUN looking at all those Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls?

Tuesday my hubby had a checkup on his knee surgery so we had to travel out of town and it was a long day. It was raining when we left at 8:30 and then we hit the road construction; slowing us down to 45 mph, next was a semi tractor trailer accident on the traffic coming toward us, then an accident where it looked like a truck had exploded and all kinds of boxes were everywhere… I mean hundreds and hundreds of boxes. Without even thinking I said, “I hope nobody’s doll was in one of those boxes!” I sure hope that truck driver made it…

We made it to the appointment with 10 minutes to spare. Whew! He got a great report and the doctor was as thrilled with the x-ray as we were. His leg was nice and straight now and it was just going to take longer for the pain to go away.

We had lunch and then planned on doing a little shopping. We went to The Silk Purse thrift shop and I found a few goodies…don’t get too excited…

I found 2 curtain panels that I’m planning on adding to those curtains I have back in the sitting room…(no, I still hadn’t gotten to them yet!)

I found this sweet baby bed skirt that had 2 ruffles around the bottom edges. The fabric was a soft, gauzy white cotton that had some gold and silver threads running through it. It smelled like a new baby and clean as could be…so I bought it for $2.00. I thought it might make darling peasant blouses for some dolls.

I found these three spools of thread…for fifty cents…but wait!!! Red tags were 60% off…and thread isn’t cheap…so I got them!

I found some eyelashes I might try on some dolls… I like how super fine the ones on the right are…
The other ones are really curled up and I’ll have to see how they work…

My hubby found these 2 flocked mannequin heads and wondered if Rebecca might need them for selling her things on Poshmark. I texted her and she replied, “SPANK! I’ll take both of them! Mine were falling apart.” $2.00 for both of them!

We went to another thrift store called Second Hand Rose, but they were closing at 4:00… we only had 15 minutes!!! Waaahhh!!! It was the store we had most been looking forward to looking in… we had a list made for the International house… a shower curtain rod, some curtains for the bedrooms, a new light for over the sink, a new towel bar, and more… we hurried as fast as we could in those 15 minutes but didn’t see anything.

We decided to head back after that and on the way home traffic was still backed up. As we drove by the spot where that truck had seemingly exploded, a bulldozer was scooping up all kinds of metal parts.. I think it had caught on fire and had burned down to just pieces. It was awful…

Well, I guess I better get to bed. I know this wasn’t as exciting as the last 2 days seeing all those Ruby Red dolls… but it was my life.

Oh, I wanted to show you my graph that lets me see how many people viewed my blog post…take a look at the last 2 columns…Monday received 595 hits and yesterday received 716! My most hits ever was 822 so those Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls of Sally’s really pulled in the hits!! Thanks again Sally!

See you all tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, what good news about George’s knee! I’m so glad to hear that his leg is nice and straight now. Pain, though, can take a while to leave, but eventually….

Was there anything on your news about that one accident? I hope no one was hurt.

You got some wonderful goodies at The Silk Purse! Yes, that fabric will make wonderful peasant blouses! And as to the thread…any time I find Dual Duty PLUS thread in thrift shops or garage sales, I snap it up, as they don’t make it any more, and it’s my FAVORITE thread to sew with!! (They do make a piecing thread that is made like DD Plus–cotton-wrapped poly–but it comes in only a few colors. Still, I do buy that, as it sews just like the old DD+.)

Thanks again to Sally for sharing all of her wonderful dolls with us! I enjoyed seeing all the pictures and reading everyone’s comments. (Some day, Dorothy and Sally, I will have to tell you about the dolly parade my friend Daria and I set up and photographed! I’ll have to find the pictures, and then use a scanner, though, as it was years and years before I ever had a digital camera!)

Interesting about Dual Duty Plus thread. I wonder why they would discontinue such popular thread? Lots of Dual Duty around here. Anyway, rather than use a scanner to copy the photos, you might try just using your phone to take a pic of your picture. Works so well and is much faster and easier. 🙂

Joy, they changed it to poly-wrapped poly about 10 years ago, and call it Dual Duty XP. It’s like sewing with fine wire. 😑 I hate the stuff! We do have lots of Dual Duty around here, too, but it’s all XP in the stores now. However, I’ve had good luck with the piecing thread, as I mentioned. It’s on a blue spool.

I don’t have that kind of a phone. 🙁 I do have a Kindle Fire, but taking a picture of a picture isn’t always easy, as you can’t get it perfectly straight, and sometimes the color looks faded. So, a scanner…. some day!

Dear Charlotte, I do remember the parade! You mentioned it awhile back.

I was actually thinking of you when I was inventing the story. Please do find the photographs. I would love to see them.

Charlotte, I, too, would love to see those pics. When Dorothy and I were getting into full swing with our fantasy, I thought to myself this morning, perhaps I should throw out a query on a local social media site to see if there is anyone else in this area who is into dolls. It might be fun to set up something for World Doll Day! However, thinking and doing are different activities.
Joy is right. Take pictures of the pictures with your phone. They should come out very satisfactorily!

Dear Sally, I can’t remember if I mentioned this before but there are UFDC clubs in every state. There are even clubs that meet via Zoom. I belong to one of them. I will send you a message on the Little Darlings on ning site.

Yes, it certainly was a dreary day yesterday, but I had Willie for the day, so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Those accidents certainly must have put a dark cloud in your day along with all the rain! Things did brighten up though in the afternoon.

I’m happy to hear that George is on the mend and things are looking up for him. He deserves it!

What a find you made with that baby bed skirt! The pink edging is something you could almost never find in a fabric store with the edges already there…. and certainly not for that price!

I flipped down before reading today’s blog, and saw the eyelashes….and thought, my goodness, Jeanne must be going “Hollywood”, only to find that they were for the dolls! Whew!

Yes, it was fun seeing Sally’s dolls, and wondering what they are thinking now, knowing they almost knocked it out if the box as far as how popular they were!

🤗 Such good news about George’s repaired knee! What a ride, glad you two made the trip safely. We had a moment of our own this morning on our way to service center for my car. Fortunately we did not see the crash that caused the slow down. Our small town has a very small number of car dealers. I may have to switch makers. I don’t know if I want to drive an hour for auto service.

I scrolled through my mental list of the items you are looking for. Sadly we took several light fixtures to habitat. I would have sent them your way. Do you have a habitat for humanity in your town?

Well Sally your Rubies brightened my Monday and Tuesday. Many others also loved seeing them according to the traffic on Jeanne’s blog. I am looking at my own dolls in a new light. May give a few a second chance at fitting in with my group. 🥰

So glad you and George made it in time for his appointment. Good news is so welcome. 🙂 However, seeing the accident site was not pleasant I’m sure. On our way to the cabin, the other side of the freeway was closed off, and we couldn’t figure out why until we came upon an accident site as well. Lots of police vehicles and markers at many points across the two lanes. One smashed car first and then three more crumpled vehicles in various locations. Fortunately, any injured were long at a hospital, but the investigation into what happened was going to take some time. Glad we hadn’t been there earlier to witness anything. And the absolute worst, we took a drive up to Donner Summit to see the new store at Soda Springs, and on the way back down, took the old road. No cars at all until we saw a couple of sheriff’s suv’s and people and the cadaver dog searching a very wooded area with piles of logs. Then, we remembered that a recent HS girl was missing after a grad party in Truckee. It’s been 11 days with no word from her nor has her car been located. They are doing aerial searches as well. After a drive around the area, on the way home, we saw the group again, this time at another location again searching. So sad.
And, wow, the hits on Sally’s great collection. Great. I wonder how people find out about it or maybe it is the topic that comes up to get so many hits? But, however it works, that is wonderful.
We’re so happy it is going to be cooler that the 100 from yesterday. Very nice this morning. Keep cool everyone. 🙂

  5. Having been in an awful accident in 2016 I can sympathize with those folks. I still have moments of reliving it and the helicopter ride to the hospital. It was awful😳
Sally’s dolls in their fantastic outfits and accessories and shoes were quite the hit. Maybe keep them for an emergency Jeanne😊 we would sure not mind seeing them again.
Great bargains at the thrift store. My thread has come from G sales and Estate Sales…I love it when the thread is all put in a big bag for one price. 🤗 I have the spools sorted by color in baskets and the girls in the family that sew know to shop in my supply closet. It is soooo expensive now

Dear Jeanne, I am glad you and your husband had safe travels. I love your dolly prayer. I think we all secretly pray for our dolls to arrive home in one piece.

What great finds at the thrift shops.

So many watchers! I wish they would all make comments. You would need to have several more sofa (laugh).

I hope you will have some sister time soon. I always love to read about those adventures.

  7. Sally from Colorado

Good morning. Been a full morning here, starting early and I’m not at my best with early. Well, it hasn’t killed me.
First, thank you ALL for your dear, kind comments. Because I have had so few opportunities to share my dolls with people who give a hoot throughout my life, these past couple days were such a high, such a treat for me. Thanks so much, Jeanne and sisters! (I will add, however, that all the other RRFF kids here are looking at me with pursed lips, chins in the air, and penetrating gazes. You know what I’m saying, right?)
Jeanne, we love your stories about renovations, thrift stores, your spectacular finds and bargains, your family and friend gatherings as well as your sewing journeys. Each one is very special every day. Very happy for you you got a wee bit of time to shop and grab those finds. 😁
That is great news for you and George, and I pray that the pain will eventually be gone. But to have a straight leg again. Fantastic.
What an awful trip on the road. You have to feel a little sick driving past those kinds of situations, and yes, say a little prayer of thanks that you are getting through safely. A little prayer for those involved in the accidents. They are sobering sights, and driving in the rain s NEVER fun. So glad you are both safe.
Well, I am signing out. Thank you all, again, and have a glorious Wednesday. 🥰
