I can only go so long before I have to make another Civil War doll dress…

This would have been a pretty Spring dress, but I think it will work perfectly for this warmer weather we have been having lately!

I have only gotten a little bit done, but enough you can see if you’re going to like it… my pictures look a little aqua but it’s got a tiny bit of mint green in it too… I found this remnant at Hobby Lobby and instantly thought it would make a pretty Civil War dress. I will probably try it on Addy too, but I love it with Rebecca’s green eyes. It would look VERY pretty on Caroline too, with her aquamarine eyes.

I added 6 tiny black buttons down the front and used my favorite pique-like fabric for the stand collar.

My hubby is going to drive HIMSELF to physical therapy Tuesday, so I’ve got a date with my sewing machine! :o)

Oh…I was looking out my kitchen window when this mom and pop and 5 baby wild turkey’s waddled through the yard… my picture isn’t good but you can “kind of” see them…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings,

What a beautiful print that is, Jeanne, and I love how you carefully centered the design so you could add those tiny black buttons. Even though I’m not a civil war-era fan, per se, I can already see that this is going to be a gorgeous gown for someone!!

What fun to see the wild turkeys! We don’t have anything like that around here, but there are some bunnies “living wild” in our neighborhood–a couple of years ago I noticed a couple on the next street up from us, but now I see some that hang around in our front yard at times. So far, I’ve seen a white one, a black one, and I think a sort of brownish one. They usually run across the street, though, so I wonder if they have a nest under the neighbor’s bush somewhere.

Had a good time at ASG (American Sewing Guild) tonight. Our neighborhood group is doing an apron challenge for next month, and I’ve already dug out the fabric and pattern for mine!

Ooh, very pretty, Jeanne! I can see Cecile in that too! I love the color, not drab or dreary, like a lot of Civil War dresses are, but so very cool and crisp looking, especially in weather like we are now having! You are onto somehting very, very nice for someone looking for a Civil War outfit!

Wild turkeys! Gosh, we don’t have them wandering around in our yard here, except in a little farm nearby that is inside a park . I’m sure they are found out in the country close by, but that is really somehting to see them wandering around in your own yard! I do doubt George is a turkey hunter!! By the way, I’m so glad to hear that he is driving himself now! Things are looking up!

  3. It sounds like George is moving right along in the healing process. I’m sure he was happy to be able to get behind the wheel again and drive himself.

I was so happy to see the beginnings of the Civil War dress. The fabric print is just beautiful and so elegant. It’s a lovely color and would look nice, as you said, on several of the Civil War girls: I have about 5 or 6 of them! They all have different names now but they would include Cecile, Caroline and three or four of my Just Like You girls. Can’t wait to see where you go from here on the outfit!
Loved seeing the turkey family. One year we stayed in a vacation home in Novato, California and every morning a whole group of turkeys would cross through the yard down to the creek. It was amazing to see them and I was happy these turkeys were wild and not heading to someone’s dinner table.

George is driving. He’s making a good recovery — of course he’s an expert at knee surgery recovery now.

And the new dress is going to be lovely. Linda’s right, it would be stunning on Cecile. And probably nice on Marie Grace as well. Of course it will be just right for Addy too. You need a Marie Grace. You could do great things with her hair. AS far as I can tell, she’s prettier in almost any wig or hairstyle than the one she came with and you could make her look wonderful.

We have wild turkeys in the mountains and a friend living there would love to feed them, but that would attract bears and mountain lions and she would not love to attract them.

So much going on today. Just great that George is back behind the wheel. Hurray!
The dress is lovely and so perfect for those summer parties or picnics. The sweet black buttons are perfectly spaced as well. I wonder how Elizabeth might look wearing the dress? It might be fun to show several girls in the dress. 🙂
I had to laugh when I saw your turkeys. They are pretty much everywhere around here in northern CA, and not welcome at all. Should a family come calling in your yard, the mess they leave behind is pretty ugly. We once had a flock descend on our place with the king father roosting on the ridge of our dark roof. The decorations he left behind were not to our taste. Almost as bad as the seagulls out by the coast. Often in the neighborhoods, when it is mating season, they get aggressive and peck at shiny car hubcaps and chase walkers down the sidewalk. Ugh. So much for nature here. 🙂
It has cooled off nicely and the fog has come in this morning. We might have to get back to blackberry cutting. Maybe. 🙂

  6. Wowza…that is going to be one gorgeous dress! My favorite color and seems to look good on most any hair and complexion combo. The buttons are perfection on it. If you can sew today it may make progress☺️.
Glad George is able to drive…I’m sure he is liking it too.😄
For some reason the state thought introducing wild turkeys here was a good idea. They have flourished. Problem is they like to cross busy streets and cause all kinds of screeching brakes and traffic jams. They look up and just strut across like they own the area. They can fly…somewhat awkwardly…but to see them up on a fence or on a low limb of a tree always startles me. They are entertaining.
Off to book club…this time to see the movie “ Where the Crawdads Sing” ….we read the book a couple years ago…will be interesting to see how it compares☺️

Beautiful fabric. This will be a lovely dress. Can’t wait to see what will go with it.

Your picture of the turkeys was good enough to see them. I thought how cool it was to see that from your window until Joy mentioned the downside of having them visit. Around here most of the damage is done from creatures below ground. Trying to have a lovely flower garden is out of the question since the moles eat the roots. My neighbor down the street has a yard that looks like an English country garden – but she has them all in containers. They have to water a lot but at least the plants survive long enough to bloom, and they can keep the grass at bay.

All my dolly girls who have summer attire are now dressed for the season. Some were still in their Easter outfits. I left the ones with patriotic outfits dressed in them until the end of July. They are few but I have some new fabric and hopefully next year more will have patriotic outfits and then I will take pictures.

I forgot to mention how pleased I am that George is back behind the wheel. I know what a relief that can be for both of you. His recovery is progressing very well.

  8. Sally from Colorado

Three cheers for George and a DOZEN cheers for his nurse extraordinaire! I do hope he is finding as he progresses less pain and discomfort daily after this latest, and last, I hope, round. Poor man. Poor you!

Lots of great looking sandals, a new doll, good things. I figured AG would be up next. Really a fetching color. I know it’s going to be fabulous. Good for you to tackle eBay and Etsy. Your perseverance pays off.

Been plenty hot here in low 90’s and that probably makes more than a few of you laugh. Also been getting rain almost every day so luckily for us, things are green.

The dolls seem to be proliferating around here. I don’t know how they do it. My hubby will be leaving Sunday for SIX days of a backpacking trip. Be still my heart! This means that old Sal can hunt for old AG furniture and maybe create a scene or two on the dining table. Holy jumping cow, I can’t stand the excitement. 🤪

A long time ago I mentioned my dogs and Benedryl for thunder and lightning anxiety. One of you dear ladies, Laura? Kathie? Debbie? suggested a cd. After my second CD player stopped working after a year and a half, I have thrown it away and given the cd collection to the library to sell. But lovely idea and thank you. Good old Alexa comes to our aid, but she performs every day with or without thunder and lightening.

Hope you all are having a good summer, sewing, getting new driveways, new dolls and clothes, doll conventions and teas, etc. Special hi’s to Anne, Alina, and Susette. Hope you gals are doing fine. ❤️❤️

    1. Hi Sally,
The CD recommendation was from me, but there is plenty of calming free pet music on You Tube. I play that on one tab while I’m doing something else on another screen.

Oh, I do hope you’ll share photos of your dolly setups. I’ve noticed quite a lot of the PC/AG furniture, accessories, and even a few of the clothing pieces (Kirsten’s On the Trail shawl for one) works with the Rubies.

  9. I’m finally back and not a moment too soon I see. If you noticed I’ve been missing, my laptop crashed last Saturday evening and I had to find the least expensive replacement I could. I got my money’s worth out of the old one though. I’d had it since 2008-9 and it had Windows 7 on it.
I, too, have three girls that live in the Antebellum/ Civil War era, but are all renamed. Those would be Caroline, Marie- Grace, and my re-wigged Nellie.
That color would indeed be perfect for Marie-Grace’s aquamarine eyes or Caroline’s seafoam green. I have a couple of similar color fabrics for them laid aside in my someday pile.
I always enjoy seeing a Civil War dress come together. Can’t wait to see all the additions.
If you divide the dolls into two groups PC (Samantha, Kirsten, Molly, Felicity, Addy, and Josefina) and then all the AG historicals, Caroline and MG are my favorite ones AG has made since they bought PC.in 1998.
How great that George can drive and I’m sure he is happy as well.
The wild turkeys are so neat. We see them sometimes in the cornfield the next street over and one year we had a pheasant on the roof.
