~ ALMOST SUMMER ~for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends is listed on Ebay

Somehow I managed to get Stella’s dress set listed on Ebay… You can see it by clicking the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE to be taken to Ebay.

I wanted to take some outside pictures of Stella but my day was gone before I could. So I had to settle for the pictures I had taken inside. I think they’ll be fine…

I am trying to catch up from my busy weekend, and planning to get to bed early tonight…

BUT.. I hate to have a post without any pictures, so I’m going to use Linda’s Azalea bush picture she sent…

Jeanne, here is a picture of my azalea bush that I have had for some time. I don’t let it get too big, since I have other things growing around it, but still it is a good size, somewhere around 4 feet tall and wide. It was a cutting from my neighbor who died two years ago, and is a beautiful reminder of her and her friendship. She lived behind me until she was 102!
Love to you,
Linda💞

That’s going to have to be it for me today… but I’ll see you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, congrats on getting Stella’s outfit listed on ebay!!

Linda, your azalea bush is lovely! It’s about the same size (or close to it) as mine. At least, mine was about 4′ wide last year–maybe a bit bigger this year. And it’s a different color. I generally only trim where it encroaches on the sidewalk, but I suppose I really should prune it one of these days!

The sun came out today and we’re to have it tomorrow, too, so I’m hoping to get a new picture of mine taken and sent off to Jeanne tomorrow.

Thanks to all who commented on my pictures yesterday. I did reply to all your comments (I think I got them all, anyway); if you go back to that post, you can read my replies. Thanks, Jeanne, for the opportunity to share some pictures!

    1. Hello Charlotte, it was late last night before I could read Jeanne’s post and it was exciting to see your pictures. I remember TenPing’s outfit. So cute seeing your little one all bundled up in the pink fuzzy coat. She looks so cute in her tiny silver outfit too.
And Freida looks adorable in her butterfly dress. The butterfly print is so cute and playful looking. I also like how you accented the neckline with the stone. I don’t remember if you kept your Freida’s name or named her something else. I’ll have to re-read your comment again.
I did notice the tablecloth your girls were standing on. I have two similar to yours. Mine are tablecloths for card tables, one my mother made and cross-stitched and one my mother-in- law cross-stitched with matching napkins. My mother-in-law told me that’s what the girls did at bridal showers for entertainment, They would all start a project of cross-stitch while they visited, but still giving a gift to the bride-to-be.
Thank you for sharing your pictures with Jeanne and all of us,

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

I love the idea of doing cross-stitch while visiting at a bridal shower. I can’t imagine that flying today. Too many would not know where to start and the bride probably will want store-bought things according to her registry. I would have liked the good old days myself.

      2. Charlotte Trayer

Hi Paula, and thank you for your kind words. I have kept Freida’s name, although at one time I thought about changing it. Generally speaking, if a doll comes with a name, I keep it, although sometimes I will alter it a bit (for instance, one of my Bonekas came with the name Mona, which I wasn’t crazy about, so she became Ramona Gail), and occasionally I will change it completely (an LD I have came with the name, Lyris, and I changed it to Lydia Delaney, but she prefers being called Delaney).

The little cross-stitch mat Freida was standing on was, I think, part of a dressing-table set. Something that was given to me years ago, or maybe gotten from my great-aunt’s things, I don’t recall. (I do enjoy doing counted cross-stitch, but in a smaller scale, and what I make usually hangs on a wall!) Thank you for noticing. I think I would have enjoyed that tradition, of gals at a bridal shower all working on embroidered pieces for the bride!

Thank you, .Charlotte! I really didn’t get to prune my azalea last year as much as I wanted to, so this year is going to be the year I really cut it back. Supposed to do that right after flowers fade away, so in the next few weeks I’ll be doing that. Hope to see yours tomorrow or soon!

      1. Charlotte Trayer

Thanks, Linda; I did send a picture to Jeanne just a bit ago. However, no new blog post from her as yet (and I usually get it about an hour earlier than it is now), so hope all is well! I know she’s been terribly busy lately.

Jeanne, thank you for showing my picture! I read what you mentioned to someone yesterday about the deer eating your hydrangeas, and want to say deer are a problem here too, due to woods all around us where they live. A few years ago, deer ate ALL of our lilies, plus anything else they found tasty! So we bought a product that was recommended to us, called Deer& Rabbit Repellant, made by Liquid Fence, and sold at Lowe’s, probably at Home Depot and other places too. It works! I just spray the buds, don’t wait until the flowers bloom, in the evening. It smells HORRIBLE when still wet, but when it dries the odor is gone. It comes in a big jug, and you don’t have to use it everyday, just every couple of days, plus the rain doesn’t wash it off every time. I started using it already, but for the doggone squirrels who constantly uproot my annuals! Hope that works!

I was so surprised to see that the lace was a sash, not a part of the dress for Stella! So it comes completely off? Wonder where I was when you told us that! Your pictures are wonderful in the listing, and I’m sure whoever is lucky enough to get the outfit will love it!

Charlotte, I am looking forward to seeing your azalea bush soon! Mine is a coral, not sure of the “official” title of it, but I loved the way it looked against our brick. It just brightens my day when I see it!

Here the problem is moles. They eat the roots of flowers. I had a lovely English garden once until they discovered it and within a couple years it was totally gone. Funny story about a particular mole. Preparing for the addition to our house the guys had to dig a ditch around the perimeter preparing for concrete. Evidently one mole considered that his home territory and kept digging into the side of the ditch to get back into his home. They had to keep digging it out. One of David’s shop cats, who’s more like a dog than a cat, came up to the house with him one day, saw the mole and dispatched him quite readily. Problem solved – by nature.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Moles are a problem here too, Barbara! We get all that rain which makes it easy for them to dig around, but they seem to like ruining the grass, not the flowers here. We sure could do without them!

I somehow knew that Linda’s yard would be as lovely has the interior of her home. Gorgeous azalea and how wonderful that it was grown from a friend’s cutting. I have a tiny one I also grew from a cutting, but still in a pot. Guess it should go in the ground. 🙂
Jeanne, I told Luca that Stella said “Hi”, to him yesterday. He blushed. 🙂
Some of you may have seen yesterday that FAO Swartz finally notified that they had in stock their RRFF Ballet boy. It was supposed to have come out right after Christmas. I don’t see him on the site now, so maybe sold out? Don’t know.
Just putting in a good word for the French Hummingbird store. They are great to work with and respond quickly in English. Petuna should arrive here in August if all goes well. 🙂
From yesterday’s post, it sounds like Anne in NZ has really been putting in the hours reorganizing her workroom. So nice that she can share the space with a grand. Glad everything is working out for her family.
Seeing Jeanne’s completed and listed lovely outfit, will hopefully give me the shove to finally finish the outfit for the RRFF Ten Ping Siblie living here. Always takes me a long time to make something, but I really need to buckle down and get it done. 🙂
Looks like a heatwave here the next few days and much warmer than usual weather for the next week as well. Wish we had some rain, but none in the forecast.

Dear Joy, yeaaa, you are getting Petunia! I think you have Victoria also, right? Please share a photo of the two of them.

I can’t wait to read about how Petunia makes her arrival at your house (smile).

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

I can definitely relate to the long length of time from an outfits’ start to finish around here. Obviously I need more self discipline because I’m not really sure why it takes me so long. My life is not that busy as a rule. Just a bad use of time I think.

    3. Linda in .St. Louis

Thank you Joy! My house and yard are always a work in progress!I love to decorate, clean and make things better, so that helps!

    4. Charlotte Trayer

You are so fortunate to have the Siblie Ten Ping, Joy! By the time I opened the email about her, she was already sold out. I’m hoping they’ll add her to the regular line–maybe a different outfit, but same face and hair. Then I could get one, too!

  4. Glad you got time to work on other things Jeanne😉 I looked at the listing you finished and those pictures are absolutely fantastic. The way you have her posed in all the different pictures make her feel alive.
Linda, That is the prettiest Azalea ever! I love that color! Some folks can get them to grow here…but we are just a bit too far north I guess. Rodendrons grow here so you would think Azalea would?

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Kathie! I love that color too, and picked that out from one of the many that my neighbor had. She had every color, and her yard was gorgeous when the were all blooming at the same time. Mine is more of a coral, which I thought looked
good with the brick on our house. I just have that one azalea, but it certainly puts on a show! I would think that azaleas would grow in Nebraska, but who knows? Maybe only a certain variety.

  5. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, well I can add non-gardener to my growing list of un-accomplishments (laugh).

I thought that when you and the Sofa Sisters were talking about azalea, you meant a doll. I guess all I really do know about is tea and dolls (laugh).

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

No problem, Dorothy. You keep us Sofa Sisters abreast of all things dolly and tea. We are most appreciative of that.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Yes, I have many cutting of things from relatives and friends and it always gives me joy to see them bloom! It’s a wonderful way to remember them.

  6. Jeanne, Stella’s outfit is really lovely. I love the colors of the dress. My favorite and looks lovely with her red hair. The perfect outfit, complete with her purse and shoes.

  7. Barbara in SE Texas

Someone is going to make their RRFF one happy little lady. The ensemble is wonderful. I love the colors. Very versatile. With a sweater or jacket the outfit could be worn year-round.

Referencing Joy’s comment on taking a while to get an outfit finished, I think what’s slowing me down on the dress I’m working on at the moment is trying to figure out how best to do some of the things suggested on the pattern. The creator likes to use edging stitches rather than hems.
They look great when she does it but when I do it sometimes It looks clumsy. I plan on buying a single hole stitch plate so my machine stops eating up the small pieces of fabric and I really need a new serger, overlock as she calls it. Hubby has promised me I can have one as soon as we finalize the sale on some farm property. I’m for sure going to get one that threads itself. I finally got the tension adjusted so the edges of my ruffles look good – this time.

Linda, your Azalea bush is so lovely and you’re right, it goes great with the exterior of your house.

I’m looking forward to having our addition and our driveway finished. Then we are going to hire someone to do something about our front flower gardens. The only thing we’ve been able to grow successfully around here are 4 O’clocks (the moles don’t eat those roots) and the native roses. We don’t want the 4 O’clocks in the front gardens because they spread – and spread, until mowed back. We love them on the side of the house because we keep them under control with weekly mowings but our front flower gardens are elevated so mowing is not an option. We have a couple families here in town that do landscaping and their yards always look lovely year-round so we have local options that we know do a good job.

We are still in the midst of summer heat while still only in Spring. I checked our ten-day forecast and it looks like we’re in for some thunderstorms next Tuesday and Wednesday. Dare we hope that comes true. It would at least cool things off for a couple days.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Barbara! It’s always nice when you work at things and someone notices!

  8. Laura in Ohio

Beautiful azalea, Linda, and I see your St.Francis of Assisi statue. A neighbor has one as well. Your garden is lovely and I really like the English ivy you have trailing on the wall.

  9. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Laura! St. Francis is my favorite saint, because of his love for animals! As far as the ivy goes, it completely surrounds my house! We have had Ivy for years and years now, and it does take work to keep it in place, but I love doing that!

  10. Linda in St. Louis

Good morning, everyone! Linda here, and I just received an email from Jeanne, saying she somehow has been locked out of her blog and cannot get onto it! Can you imagine? So she asked me to tell you that she is working on it, hopefully Kristoffer can do something. to get her back on. If you are here today (Wednesday), there is no blog, Jeanne cannot get there to write one! Hopefully some of you will see this!

    1. Sylvia from NH

Thanks for the update! I hadn’t read yesterday as I was to busy, my daughter had a total hip done so I was taking care of her. She is doing great! They just do them as an out patient. Amazing to me! Have a good day! Hope Jeanne is back with us soon, we need our Jeanne fix!!!!!!!

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

I usually check the previous day to see if there is anything I missed and saw your message. Hopefully Jeanne will be up and running soon. In the meantime I think I’ll head to my sewing room and get some sewing done. Maybe Jeanne won’t feel so bad if she knows I replaced her blog today with working on a sewing project. Thanks, Linda.

  11. Debbie in North Carolina

Thank you Linda! When I poured my coffee and clicked in for my morning fix of Jeanne and there was no post I thought my phone was broken. I turned it off and on again – still nothing. Checked my settings to see if my clumsy fingers disabled the email setting – still nothing. Last resort, check yesterday’s blog and there was your message. Mystery solved.

Jeanne, I hope you are able to find your way back to your blog. : )

  12. Joy in northern CA

Thanks so much for the update Linda. I went to yesterday’s post to click on todays as I hadn’t received the usual this morning, but no new post. Immediately, got worried that something had happened. Glad to hear it is a glitch and hopefully, Word Press can get their act together and fix the problem.
Weather report here is 93 today of which I’m not a fan. We’ll literally need one to stay cool though. 🙂

  13. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Linda, thank you for letting us know. I hope that Jeanne can get back online soon. I certainly miss the sunshine she shares.

Happy mid-May to the Sofa Sisters as we wait for news.
