A few new “cobbler” items to help with my dolly shoes

This is kind of a short post and not a dolly picture to be found… but alas! Joy sent me a picture of her new Ruby Red Fashion Friend and I decided to show her first so you could get your dolly fix first thing! This is what Joy shared with me…

“Here’s RRFF Josephine. I didn’t put in her meet outfit, but found something I liked for her to wear. I didn’t make it. She is a different sculpt from the regular, but I like her.
Joy”

I think she looks like she’s wearing something from the Mary Englebreit store! Congratulations on getting her, Joy! I know she must be fitting right in with her many sisters!

You’ll have to excuse me this week as Rebecca and Karn are here visiting… I wanted to spend as much time as possible with them, but I didn’t want to totally leave you with nothing… so I have broken down my posts into a few simple ones that I hope you find interesting… At least there will be something each day, and I’ll try to add a comment at the bottom if I find some extra time. Rebecca has already told me she had some alterations she’d like me to work on and Karn is going to help my hubby with our Buick. Rebecca said she wanted to go to Hobby Lobby too… I asked her what she needed and she said, “EVERYTHING!” :o)

Today I thought I’d show you what I picked up at Springfield Leather… It was the most incredible store and I didn’t even really get a chance to see the whole store. I will definitely be going back when I visit Deb again. I actually went to two leather stores while I was visiting Deb… They had a Tandy Leather store too.

Anyway, I picked up these things…some thread for stitching my shoes and boots together, some new little sanding sticks… they actually look almost like emery boards, but the guy said they were pretty strong and long lasting, so we’ll see. He said they could make my soles smoother.. I definitely hope so. I also picked up some water based leather stain to use on the soles…

…and my favorite thing was the piece of real cow hide that I bought for Rebecca. Most of the pieces had curved and rounded edges from the cows they came from, but I found this slightly crooked piece in a clearance bin and it was cut in a long rectangle. Rebecca loves anything southwest and has been looking for a pillow with the “fur” on it… I hope I can make her a pillow from it. I didn’t make it yet, because I wanted to ask her what size and shape she wanted.

Then as I was getting ready to check out, the lady who was first helping me, said, “Oh, don’t forget… you can fill a bag with leather scraps with every purchase you make!” And I did! It was kind of fun digging around in the bin thinking of what pieces would make the best doll shoes. :o)

I’m looking forward to making my next pair of shoes and hope my new sanders and threads will work well. I’m looking through my leathers to see if can find something to go with Sara’s new dress… You’ll have to stay tuned this week to see what I have gotten done for her.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Joy, congrats on Josephine! Are you going to stick with her name as is, or maybe give her a nickname, like Jo or Josie? I agree with Jeanne, her outfit does kind of look like a Mary Engelbreit–and her chair Definitely looks like it! I have a hunch that is going to be Her chair from now on!!

Jeanne, you really got some cool stuff for your cobbling business! And that piece of cowhide with the hair still in tact is really nice. I like the colors and patterning in the piece. Be sure to get a leather needle if you are going to try to sew it on your machine! And how nice, to get a bag of leather pieces, too!! You should be able to make quite a few pairs of shoes, and maybe a few purses, too, from what you got!

So nice that Rebecca and Karn can be there for a few days; I know you’ll enjoy your time with them. I like her answer when you asked what she needed at Hobby Lobby! My kind of girl!

Jeanne, do not worry about anything! I have some pictures of Molly’s birthday party that I will send you so we can have a dolly fix! With this wonderful weather we have been having, I have been busy outside trying to get things cleaned up with leaves that have blown during the winter from here, there and everywhere!

Josephine is darling in that outfit, Joy! I may be mistaken, but I thought she had bangs. Did you change her wig? I love that colorful little chair! It reminds me of those small little Mexican chairs kids used to have. It does have that Mary Engelbreit vibe!

So nice that you were able to get all the “fixins” for making shoes, Jeanne! Now you have to figure out a lace to store all those things in your sewing room so you can find them!!

Enjoy your time with Rebecca and Karn! I’m sure a certain little someone with four legs is going to be very happy!!

There are some very observant people here. This is Josephine’s original wig. It is a nice one, but I wasn’t so fond of the heavy bangs on her, so easy peasy, parted them in the middle. I like her this way. 🙂 And the chair is Mary Engelbreit. I have another chair and a table to match. It is the perfect size for the RRFF kids. The other ME furniture here is for smaller dolls. 🙂
The new shoeing items look to be very useful. I need some shoes/sandals for a boy who wears a 2.0×1.0 mm shoe or slightly larger. I have some boots, but kind of hot wearing those in the upcoming months. I was going to try some sandals, but not sure if I can even hold something that small let alone cut it out. 🙁
Sounds like a fun visit with Karn and Becca. Quite a drive for them I’m sure.
We’re having normal weather temps here until later in the week when we’re supposed to hit the 90’s again. Ugh.

Dear Joy, I am so happy to see a photo of our new niece. She is adorable and worth every effort of espionage (smile). I hope she blends in with her siblings quietly so Other Person won’t notice. Good luck on your next “adventure” and do let us know (chuckle).

Dear Jeanne, I hope you have fun with your daughter at Hobby Lobby. I hope she is liking her new place here in PA.

I think we are going to see an explosion of shoes coming from Atelier Jeanne. Many little dollies (and their Mamas) are going to be very happy.

27 days until May 1. The countdown has begun (smile).

You mentioned May 1. Usually I love that date but this year not so much. I just got a fertilizer bill for $2700 due by May 1, over twice what it was last year, so for me it will come too soon. I knew the costs of farming would go up this year but it was still a shocker. I will try to concentrate on putting together a Maypole event to take my mind off it.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, yes, let’s all focus on making Maypoles. We can dance around and feel better. Of course, if I dance too much I might get dizzy. I may have to just “watch” the dancing (chuckle).

I’m good. Have a wonderful time with Rebecca and Karn, especially the part about going to Hobby Lobby. I haven’t been there in ages. It’s not open Sunday and that’s mostly when I’m in the area. I can’t wait to see the shoes you produce with all your new “tools”.

Thanks to Joy for sending the wonderful picture of Josephine. I love her outfit and her chair. If the dining set fits the RRFFs, it must be a nice size. I’d love to see the whole thing.

Still awaiting the completion of my vanity installation so I can give the bathroom a good cleaning. There were a few plumbing adjustments that needed doing and the guys had such a busy week last week that I didn’t insist it be finished up before Sean left Friday. I’m sure it will be finished today.

I love the cowhide. Really nice colors and pattern. Should make a lovely pillow.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the leather scraps aren’t worth more to you than anything you bought. It’s perfect — they don’t have to waste them and you’ll get great use from them. Hm — lace stockings and leather shoes? That would be fun. Send the leather store pictures.

Have a lovely week with Rebecca and Karn.

  7. Kathie from Omaha

Those leather pieces will be something awesome I’m sure😉
I’ll take a pic of my RRFF leather and lace boots. Sounds weird but are cute. Some dollies are in the Easter mood. If they hold still long enough I’ll take a picture
    Have fun with the newlyweds

  8. Hi everyone,
The kids arrived this afternoon and we’ve already had fun…I gave her the cowhide and before she opened it up, I had her close her eyes and try to guess what it was…as soon as she felt the fur, she opened her eyes and screamed!! She was thrilled and wants me to make a pillow using the fur on one side and put a backing on it so it can be bigger with the fur showing on the front side.!!

We played a game I found at a tardsale called “The worst case scenario…Survival game!” And had a good time.

Rebecca made tacos and Karn’s mom sent more Baklava our way…oh dear, I’ve already had 3 pieces!!!

    Just checking in!!!
    Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Charlotte Trayer

I would want three pieces of baklava, too, Jeanne–I just love it! Since I can’t be there, you’ll have to eat my share, too! 😁
