Ruby Red Fashion Friends, Freida, lets her hair down

Freida has been laying naked on the cutting table since I removed her clothes, the day she arrived. I decided I wanted to take her side braid down today, but it was such a pretty, sleek and shiny braid, it took me a little while to get up my courage. I had ideas of lots of hair styles she could wear and finally took off that rubber band at the bottom of her braid. As I unbraided her hair, it felt the silkiest of any doll I have ever owned. It was too late to stop, so I just kept going.

It was pretty wavy so I decided to try the boiling water trick and dip her hair into it to straighten the waves. I can’t say it made her hair stick straight, but I wasn’t sure I wanted it as straight as Stella’s hair, so a few waves were okay with me.

I took a 13 second video of me waving her hair around….it’s not the greatest, but Freida loved it.

I had some perm rods and used some papers to fold the ends under smoothly.

I let it dry for a few hours, but couldn’t wait any longer, so I took the rods out.

I think I’d like to try again and make her curls a little more smooth looking, but for now I’m okay with her hair hanging down the way it does.

If anyone in the U.S. is interested in her outfit, I am selling it for $52.00, including FREE SHIPPING.

FREIDA’S OUTFIT HAS SOLD!!! THANK YOU!!

One more picture… my Amaryllis has shot up a second stalk and in a few days or maybe another week, there should be another red set of blooms!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Welcome back, Jeanne! You must be feeling better! You never did say what you had, or answered questions about how you were while you were sick, but the important thing is, you’re back, and we’re glad to see you!

Freida’s hair is lovely, but I don’t think I’m brave enough to take it out of it’s braid…IF SHE EVER GETS HERE!!! I am getting Thoroughly fed up with FedEx, as she Still isn’t here! I just checked tracking, and she’s been in Lynnwood since Monday noon. I have another order (from Current–a backordered item) also via FedEx, and it’s taking almost as long, and only came from Colorado! It’s been stuck down in Kent since Sunday afternoon. I will be sure to let both companies know what I think about their FedEx shipping! (I remember when their slogan was “when it absolutely positively has to get there overnight”–now we can add “give or take a month”!!)

Ron had his cardiology appt. today, and it’s a “good news/bad news” kind of thing. Bad news is, of course, that very floppy mitral valve, which will only get progressively worse (and probably eventually cause his demise). We’ve known about that for quite some time, so it was no surprise.

But there were two bits of good news, too–his arteries are in pretty good shape “for his age” (only blocked 30-40%; 75% is considered serious enough to do something about), and the angiogram showed NO congestive heart failure! Apparently any swelling in his legs/feet is from venous insufficiency. In other words, his blood vessels are just not as flexible as they used to be, and don’t work as efficiently.

So, we will take whatever time he has left as a gift, as it could have been worse news, you know. (There have been several times in his life when he could have or almost died.) And, after all, he WILL be 89 on Saturday! (He’s 13 years–and one week!–older than I am!)

I’ve heard that you can call FedEx and talk to someone about your package. Maybe try calling the Lynnwood office and see if you can get some action. šŸ™‚
Glad there is good news for your husband. You both want to be ready to party for those birthdays. šŸ™‚

    2. Glad for Ronā€™s good news, Charlotte. Best wishes to him on his 89th birthday!

My husband and I no longer use Fed Ex for anything. After an obvious smashed and wet box was delivered with no communication as to what happened and no help from them, and, then, another lost item from another box that was also destroyed with no resolution, that was the end for us. We filled out all the proper paper work too but they were no help. It was beyond disappointing.

Glad to see you’re back from your mystery trip/illness. Since you haven’t said, makes me think that it was Covid. Ordered our free test kit from covidtest.gov yesterday. Supposed to have four tests and should arrive by the end of the month. Hope George didn’t contract it too. Pretty terrible stuff. The latest this morning, 62,000 people have it here in our county alone. Our grands 5th grade teacher now has the virus in another county, so she’s out for awhile. Daughter said that so many kids have it in their area. It’s awful.
I’m still leaving in Freida’s braid at this point. I saw a another video on one of the groups of the removal and straightening. I think that person may have used a low setting curling iron to remove the braid kinks? I do like how your setting turned out for Freida. Very natural and picture worthy. She is adorable.
Nice that you are back. We’ve missed you.

Welcome back, Mrs. W! Hope youā€™re feeling tons better.
Freida must be feeling rather cold on just her gorgeous undies. My girlā€™s braid is staying in because it IS beautiful and with all the other girls (and boys) I have here, I donā€™t aspire to any more long hairdos, straight, wavy or curly. You just enjoy her the way it makes you happy and serves your needs. šŸ‘ So glad you have her because she is just as photogenic as Stella.

Charlotte, Joy offered a great suggestion. Despite our frustrations when things donā€™t arrive in time or are ā€œstuckā€ just a few towns over, I would advise to not vent on any employee. A conversation, yes, but these days, nobody ā€œneedsā€ a ā€œpiece of anyoneā€™s mindā€. Businesses are struggling everywhere with the never ending pandemic, bad weather, you name it. Iā€™m sure you will be absolutely lovely with your conversation. None of these employees are having any fun these days. Our mail carriers, for example, are putting in 60-80 hour weeks. Heavens! Good luck. That doll wants to see you just as badly, Iā€™m sure. And that is good news about Ron. Enjoy each day.

Some of my dolls are waiting for a change of clothes. We got a nice box of three dresses from Betty Atwell yesterday. I also did a BIN for another red silk and have a cute casual set coming from Darla. So today, three kids will see a change. šŸ˜ Two more in a few days, depending on service and a little luck! Or a lot of luck.

It’s lovely to have you back and ready to take on a project like Freida’s hair, which is also lovely.
I was hoping you didn’t have COVID, but if you did, it may give you some immunity. My nephew was sick recently, and when the test came back, he had a cold. Who gets colds now?
We’re always worried it’s something worse. Whatever it was, stay well now.

  5. Glad to see youā€™re back and up to working on Friedaā€™s hair. You are a wiz with doll hair so I know it will look beautiful! Canā€™t wait to see what you end up with.
My Sydney arrived yesterday and she is adorable. She will be By the Sea Kaylaā€™s younger sister. Do the Siblies wear the same clothes even though they are shorter?

    1. Joy in northern CA

The Siblie’s are more the size of a Little Darling, so smaller than the Ruby Reds. I’m sure there must be other dolls their size, but I can’t remember. There feet are also slightly smaller than the Ruby Reds, but can probably wear some of the shoes with a sock. Not sure how the feet compare to the LD’s.

  6. Glad to see you are feeling better, Jeanne. Hope you didn’t have a run in with Covid. The cases are really skyrocketing. Our county which is made up of two smallish cities and five villages had over 1000 cases a couple of days ago. Prior days it had been well under 100.

Freida’s hair looks so pretty down. I see she has the mahogany highlights like my Josefina does. Now she looks like a smaller version of Josefina. I’m sure you have lovely dresses in mind for her.

Sorry about Freida’s delay, Charlotte. FedEx employees really are doing their best. We are on a first name basis with the very kind man who delivers our FedEx. It’s always him unless it comes on a Sunday. I am amazed that FedEx comes on Sundays now, but they obviously can’t do it all during the week.I get pet food, Vitacost, and other things through them. He is always so kind and friendly with a warm smile each time and a “you’re so welcome” to my “thank you so much”. If I’m outside and it’s something heavy like my cat litter he brings it into the garage. If I’m having a walk he always waves and calls hello. He’s many times on a 14 hour shift. The couple of boxes that arrived damaged in the past year were easily replaced as they were from Vitacost and they were the ones to pack them too heavy. The delivery person you see is the last in a long line. Kindness goes so far these days. I thank the mailman and the refuse employees if I’m outside at the time. You should see the smiles that make me feel good in return.
So glad to hear of Ron’s good news and hope he has a wonderful 89th birthday! WOW!

  7. Alina from Krakow, Poland

How lucky that Jeanne is already working. She misses her sorely. Freida is very pretty.
    Happy birthday to Ron.
